Best Performance Video.......2007-05-23
This is a great guitar dvd for anyone that likes guitar music, but if you know someone who plays guitar, you'd be safe to get them this dvd - it is sure to become a delight in their collection. This is amazing. It is a guitar player's dream performance dvd. First, the sound mix is wonderful - clean, crisp, blended so well - (the performance in the closed session is the best, or rather, the mix is so perfect in those sessions that it's like being there personally in the front row - you get lost in it.) Second, the filming style was beyond my expectations. The attention to getting right up on the hands while performers are playing is the best I've ever seen. It's so clear, that if you're fast enough, you could play along on the parts - no quessing, no shadows, nothing is missed as the lead moves from one player to the other - the camera is right on it. This is a 60 minute dvd, but feels like just a moment out of time - it's so enjoyable, you can't believe it's over already! There is also a nice interview set on how the players met and their background and influences.
I had bought this because I saw a session of Strunz & Farah on a PBS special and had become interested in their comments about doing their own sound mixing on their cds and so forth and wanted to hear more. I could not be more pleased with the dvd. I believed it would be good, but it's beyond that - a real gem.
Yea, it really is that good.......2007-02-03
If you're reading this, you obviously already know who Strunz and Farah are and understand their musical excellence. I'm sure you even remember the first time you heard this duo play and if you buy this dvd, you'll never forget the first time you watched it.
The majority of this dvd was recorded in an empty auditorium in order to capture their raw acoustic sound, which is done so masterfully. The sound on this dvd is supreme and robust. You can tell that they made sure to capture their sound the way it was meant to be heard. The two of them create such a full sound and combine that with the sultry violin, subtle percussion and you get an amazing recording.
You can tell that these guys truly enjoy playing together, as the camera often catches them smiling when the other is soloing along with them bobbing their heads to the beat. The shots in this DVD are perfect, capturing their perfect form exactly when they are soloing as well as panning out to the entire band when need be. I often find myself disappointed in music dvds for not filming the musicians hands when appropriate, but this DVD hits the nail on the head in a very refreshing manner by not overdoing any one particular shot.
The DVD itself is short, only 60 minutes and I had hoped that it would never end. The last two songs are recorded live, therefore their guitars are plugged in. They are two very lively songs and are a great addition to the film.
There is a brief interview with the two of them at the end of the dvd which sheds some interesting insight as to how they began with their music and how they met. I was very excited to hear that they both listened to Jimi Hendrix while growing up!
If you made it through this review, you already know you're going to get this DVD so what are you waiting for!?
incredible.......2006-06-18
oh my god! strunz & farah are at the top of their game. this dvd is a 'front row seat' to their show. this dvd is worth 10 fold in dollar value. and their cd's are just as good, they seem to always create better & better music. pico 26
The Best Guitar Players!!!!.......2005-01-02
I have watched this group performing twice and they are just the best guitar players. Although I had preferred a DVD of the cd LIVE, this one shows a great variety of rythms from different countries and, of course, the extraordinary performance of these musicians.
If someone have any other video material from them please write me to venerable1966@hotmail.com
