This DVD is a must have. The quality of the video is barely acceptable, the soundtrack is good. The music selection is excellent although I missed "El Temblor".

Soda Estereo is my favorite Spanish rock band. The connection between the band and the concert fans is just amazing. We've lost a great band.

If you like rock this is a DVD that will make you appreciate how wonderful Spanish rock musicians they are.

I definitely recommend this DVD.

Soda Stereo was with no doubt the greatest rock band in Latin America from the mid eighties to the mid nineties. From album to album they evolved enriching their musical language and therefore innovating the forms of "rock en español", without recurring to fusion of rock with latin folklore, which in itself is not a bad thing, it can be interesting, but Soda Stereo proved that a Latin Rock Band could make the best of rock music in Spanish, and could be favorably compared to their anglosaxon peers. For those of us who lamented their breakup, and are haunted by nostalgia, this DVD of their final concert in Buenos Aires functions as a partial cure, there we have Soda Stereo, with their powerful presence, portrayed in peak form musically..., but unfortunetly, the DVD production does not make justice to their musical mastery. A more cinematic hand was missing there! For all of us who love the music of Soda Stereo that failure will not matter much in the end, but surely it will for those who are not acquainted with their music and have their first approach to Soda throug this DVD. Because it is not simply that at times music and image do not match, it is simply that there is not a good job at the camera level. Visually the concert ends up turning tedious, and that is sad, because the cinematic language is not put to good use here. Song after song the time passes, and the camera either moves lousily or does not move at all; on the other hand, there was no use of video segments in some of the songs for which that might have worked, the viewer does not have interesting views of the public out there, and details that could have been given prominence in the stage are simply missed, for example, the performance of the musicians that accompanied the band. They just were shown as part of the backdrop. Compare this DVD with the excellent one that presents Brazilian singer songwriter Caetono Veloso, "Hombre de Fina Estampa", and you will understand what I mean. It is a shame that even the band leader, Cerati, or the bassist, Bosio, who had both such an impressive performance in the stage were not given a right treatment by the camera.
Anyway, if you love Soda Stereo, or even if you want to have an approach as a possible fan of the band, buy the dvd, but concentrate mostly in the music, because in spite of my reservations, there is a bit of value added to the DVD over the two audio cds of the final concert that are well known to the fans.

El Ultimo Concierto <3 Soda Stereo.......2006-03-16

This dvd is for any true Soda Stereo fan, or better yet, for any music fan. For those of you that dont know Soda Stereo was one of the greatest bands in latin rock history who's influence is still felt in music today. The dvd is a great buy. It was filmed in 1997 and the picture and sound quality is excellent. From beginning to end the show is just perfect. Quick highlights: Gustavo Cerati's classic "Soda Stereo, Buenos Aires Argentina" Intro!, Te Para Tres Acoustic.....actually, the entire dvd is an unforgettable highlight, but dont take my word for it, see for yourself.
p.s.: Amazon is quick! I had been looking for the dvd for a long time and was anxious to get it. I had it in less than 2 days after having ordered it!

Great Concert Despite Bad 5.1 Mix.......2004-02-26

The 23 track listing minus Jamas Te Prometi Un Jardin De Rosas (available on the CD only) has many problems including the 5.1 surround mix. Starting with the first 3 songs, Rocio Durcal had problems with her voice because of the faulty sound system. When you hear the track, you might think that the DVD was on mono. The full orchestra and Mariachi could not follow the tempo while one of the background vocalist did not follow the songs. Durcal seemed distant from the audience almost as if they were not there. Bad editing could not keep Rocio's voice hidden for long and soon enough when the full arrangement gets their act together, it all seems to work out. Also be aware of the terrible cut away scenes of the crowd, which you can barely hear. Enrique Guzman makes a brief appearance including Antonio Morales. Despite the bad lighting, Rocio makes 3 wardrobe changes with 22 of her greatest hits sung with enthusiasm. Full Frame. Sound: D+ DVD: B

I love this DVD! If I could, I would watch it several times a day... 7 days a week. Alejandro .... his voice is like silk! Alejandro.... is very easy on the eyes! The music is AWESOME! The clarity of the DVD is outstanding! When you watch the DVD, it is just like being in the front room of the concert. For anyone that is a fan of Alejandro Sanz, this is a must for your collection.

Live concert recording. Audio sounds "boxie". If you buy just to play in regular TV and watch the video is great, but if you expect your Home Theater to rock with this DVD you will be dissapointed.

I was already a fan of Sanz before I bought this DVD but after seeing it I had to let everyone know what an incredible performer and consumate artist he is . The musicians including his singers are first rate and the music will literally have you humming for days after.

finally i see gilberto play.......2007-02-04

i wish this would have been a 1950's concert but this is still great.

the singer they have is almost an aviles imitator.

the concert is only about an hour or more. they played a good selection of songs but i wanted to hear enganada.

gilberto plays his guitar great still but his hands do shake a bit.
his soloing in odiame could be cleaner but was ok.

if your a fan, you need this in your collection.

I've been waiting 31 years to watch Gilberto Puente play the solo's featured on these songs that I've listened to all of my life.

My dad told me that he had the honor of helping one of them carry a guitar into the venue they were playing at one night in Guatemala. Ever since then I always wished I could see them in full motion as he once did, instead of being limited to audio & the images on the record sleeves.

I've always imagined Gilberto fingering the frets, always wondered what picking style he used. Always wondered if it was studio tricks, if they sped up the tape.

I've had a never ending amount of time to wonder.

It is incredibly fulfilling to finally witness the technical marvel that his playing really is. He has such a clean playing style, is blazingly fast & does it with absolute ease. I started tearing up just watching this.

I am so thankful that this has finally been documented. It is such an important part of musical history that I feel is getting lost between the cracks of the spanish music of today, which sounds more like circus music, than the intricately textured, longingly beautiful lullabies of Los Tres Reyes.

Although I was born around 18 years after they released their first record, for what it's worth, I feel it is a wonderfully fulfilling representation of who I remember them to be.

One thing I was expecting was that the songs would be variations of what they once were & not live replica's of what was recorded so many years ago. Thankfully, the songs have been kept true to form, with a sprinkle of tasteful improvisation here and there.

I urge you to buy this. Not only because it would make a wonderful addition to your DVD collection, but because music like this needs to continue to be passed on so it can live on forever.

Good concert and selection, some sound problems.......2004-04-14

I would give this DVD 5 stars for a review, it weren't for a small, sound engineering detail. The sound is a little weak on the DVD, and i had to put my sound system at half its power just to get a decent sound. Most people might not see that as a problem, but I own several salsa DVDs (Bobby Valentin's 25 year anniversary at the Prison comes to mind) which have been produced better. However, the music is a great exposition of the Salsa classics of the 1960s and 1970s, performed with a modern 2000 band. If you're a fan of Fania All-Stars, El Gran Combo, and other staples of the Puerto Rican salsa movement of the 1960s and 1970s, this is a great DVD for the collection. If you are into more modern salsa and timba from Cuba, you might be disappointed at the more "restrained" salsa sound from the 1960s and 1970s that is the style of Roberto Roena's band. I'd recommend the Bobby Valentin 25th year anniversary DVD at the Prison. It's still distinctively "Puerto Rican salsa", but with a more modern funky/jazz touch to it.

I just can say ...WOW a big WOW very simple concert but huge in sound,a great orchesta, and of course un MIGUEL BOSE que hace temblar aquel teatro ...ole ,ole ,ole ,ole ,ole arriba macho .If u really wanna feel this DVD very deep inside of u be prepare to have ur six senses focus on this "Mago de la musica". Miguel Bose just HIT really hard with this master piece. it will make u keep ur eyes open without a chance to blink and waiving ur hips side to side as u follow Miguel Bose in this Journey .... as he says "be ready to listen with ur heart and see it with ur ear's eye..." enjoy it guys u wont regret it believe me,.........
