Beatle in Benton - NOT REALLY.......2007-02-14

WOW...I have never been so dissapointed about a DVD purchase in my life. This film is about a big Beatles fan going around and talking to people who saw George on the street before he got big. The questions during these boring interview are pointless and I bet he paid these people to participate in the film. Camera work is awful and it is all shot in about 1980. Do not purchase...is my opinion.

I lived in the area (Christopher, IL) & went to Benton a lot...I saw the house back in the early 70's.......2006-07-16

I haven't watched this DVD, so I can't really rate it; I can only rate the significance of it. The house in Benton, Il has LONG been a legend...long before it was even recognized by the media as a place of importance. I am very glad to see that it is finally fully recognized & was not torn down, as was planned to allow for a small parking lot. As a young teen, my friends & I went to Benton frequently, & I saw the house a few times. Back then, there was nothing visible to the eye that made it special...it was just the rumour that one of the Beatles had been there; & that it was the home of his sister. I saw in previous reviews that John Malkovich was mentioned....his family lived in the area...Christopher, IL. It's amazing to me how these small towns (Christopher is even smaller than Benton in population) produced the "movie stars" & history that they did. I lived in the area for several years, & it was a very unglamorous place. Certainly not a place where you would expect greatness to emerge from, or be associated with. It is however, very much an area that a lot of people want to "escape" from, so maybe that was the catalyst! ;) Anyway, I now want to see this DVD, & will make it a point to do so. Terrible Doc on a very interesting topic.......2005-08-22

Looks like someone made this with their home-video camera. Beware of the suspiciously glowing reviews included here on Amazon -- I can only believe they were written by the "film's" creator or close relatives, or someone he owes money to who is trying to boost sales. If you absolutely must see this doc, rent it on Netflix.

Where is George? There is no film footage! a couple of snap shots and people we don't know tell us how George visited their town all those years ago. I wouldn't give 50 cents had I known. P.S. on the rating scale, this one deserves minus zero.

This DVD contains exclusive interviews of the family and friends of George Harrison while in Benton,IL.This documentary explains in full details about George Harrison's first Amercian visit Sept.of 1963.The documentary provides the Beatles fans with the who's,what's and why's of all the facts of the main people George had contact with while in Benton.She Loves You was the one song Marsha played when George was there in the WFRX studio every Beatle fan should know what that song sounded like.The film of George at WFRX was George's own private 8 mm film.The movie captures in detail from Marsha her first person account of what took place at WFRX also at the end a movie trailer goes into a recreation of the scene it was 1963 no sound on the those old 8mm camera's back then when George was in the station what kind of shape it's in now is anyone's guess after 40 some years.The story moves on to Kenny who tells of his meeting with George and the music they both had a interest in,Gabe tells his story the Leader of the 4 Vest and the things they did together while in Benton,Louise goes in detail about what her brother did while with her and what they did while at the VFW Hall it's a wonderful story the treshhold of American pop-culture was about to change when George used Kenny's Guitar that night at the VFW and made his first performance of any of The Beatles.it lit the place up with excitement hear from them the story of that evening and how great it was to watch this young man from Liverpool England one of the Fab's for the first time in America playing his heart out for the American people.This documentary tells a great story of family love that Louise had for her kid brother,and Peter who came with George on his Cheerdown as they call it in the UK.It is a significantly historic event and has been placed into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame as they said'this film it's not about the Star George Harrison it's about the person' We are glad to have it here!!.The video goes on with the Candle Light Service for George with a moving tribute by Louise,Bob Bartel,Gabe McCarty, and others, It is a detailed film that tells a story that is what a documentary does this does a super fab job of it also tells the story of the poeple who help save Louise former home which is now a Bed and Breakfest.Other people interviewed Danny Malkovich,John's brother,Danny Recalls him seeing George on the town square.This is award winning film was made by a Super Beatle Fan who wanted to do something for the Beatles he wanted to return back what the Beatles gave him over the course of a lifetime it was made for the respect and love they gave him and to all the other Beatle fans....thru their music and he was lucky to have been the one who found the house that was soon to be a made into parking lot for 10 cars. The fans now have a place to go and relive a happier time...ALL THOSE YEARS AGO.!! THIS DVD helped me do just that it will to the same for you. Cheers!!!
