5 out of 5 stars Impeccable........2006-03-30

This DVD is an absolutely must-see for any musician. The German Brass have transcribed works by Bach, Albinoni, and Vivaldi to put on one of the best brass ensemble performances I've ever seen. It's the kind of performance where you only wish you could have been there. You will hear some of the finest brass players in the world - including the absolute best display of piccolo trumpet playing I've ever seen/heard by Matthias Hofs. If you aren't blown away by their virtuosity, you should be blown away by the fact that you can't even tell how fiendishly difficult the pieces they're playing are. If you think the Badinerie or the last movement of Bach's Brandenburg No. 3 is tough on flute or violin, try it on trumpets!

Please - buy this CD - it might encourage the group to tour to the USA once in a while!

4 out of 5 stars Impressive playing.......2005-08-06

German brass plays great, no doubt they are among the finest brass players of the world. The one missing star is for the DVD itself, there are really no extras and the concert alone is relatively short. Well, it is a good length for a concert, but on this DVD it has enough room for a second concert. For the lack of extras and for the missleading cover pictures I give one star minus (The cover shows the German Brass members in a funny stile running outside in a park, the backside shows a hornplayer dressed as a clown. Well there is nothing like that on the DVD. All the concert is playing inside a church and they wear traditional concert dress).

5 out of 5 stars Fine Brass Playing.......2004-12-05

German Brass gives a perfect example of what brass playing should be! Their pipe organ like sound creates a beautiful scene at the site of Bach's Grave. The peices are exciting and tastefully aranged. It starts with a great Vivaldi peice with an awesome valve trombone solo. The ending is nothing less than spectacular with Bach's toccata and fugue in d minor. The french horns play with power and the trombones and tubas are top notch, but the star of the show must be the trumpets with their ear pleasing accuracy and incredible , well , ... everything. This DVD was awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Great Performance.......2004-11-22

This DVD is great!

German Brass playing live. Well, I am not 100% sure if the audio is really live because there are times when it sounds like it was doubled in studio.

Anyway, it is a great performance and you should have it.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Performance.......2004-05-09

As a brass (trumpet) player, clinician, performer, and educator is must say that is the finest brass performance I have ever heard or seen. This is a MUST for your collection. The playing is absolutely flawless from all aspects (tecnique, intonation, ensemble balance).

You will not be disappointed in purchasing this DVD!!
