Description
In 1980, MOTORHEAD released their fourth album Ace Of Spades. Loud, fast and overwhelmingly heavy, Ace of Spades would propel MOTORHEAD into the ranks of Heavy Metal's elite and 25 years later is still considered a benchmark album in its genre.

MOTORHEAD - Ace Of Spades Classic Album sees Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke and Philip "Philthy Animal" Taylor talk candidly about the writing and recording of the album and the goings on inside the MOTORHEAD camp at the time. Watch "Fast" Eddie as he demonstrates how the riff for Ace Of Spades came about, and see the trio (with the help of modern technology) together on the same stage once again. Also featured are exclusive interviews with the likes of Slash (Guns & Roses, Velvet Revolver), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Dave Brock (Hawkwind), and many more.

At the front of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal is MOTORHEAD. Formed in 1975 by former Hawkwind bassist Lemmy Kilmister, the band endured several lineup changes in its early years, and the revolving door lineup began again, with Lemmy continuing to be the driving force of MOTORHEAD.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A very nice intro to Motorhead.......2006-03-18

I never even heard of Motorhead until the late 1980's and didn't really listen to them until 1996. But when I did, it was one of the most physically exciting musical experiences of my life, and my introduction to the group was 'Ace of Spades.' I adore the 'Classic Albums' series and was like a pig in...mud getting to see the band discuss their experiences surrounding the making of the album, as well as do a little catch-up on where they came from and how they became a classic Motorhead line-up.

2 out of 5 stars Not Very Impressed.......2006-02-23

I found this to be one of the weakest of the 'Classic Albums' series. It seems to focus on Phil's unfunny and unrelated jabberings, with really very little info as to how the album itself was created. Considering the point of this series is to tell the story behind the making of the album, this one is a pretty pointless show. You do get to see via the magic of CGI the original line-up play Ace Of Spades...but is that really why you're buying this?

5 out of 5 stars Check out Philthy's neck!.......2005-07-28

Philthy Animal shows viewers the back of his neck on this DVD. Why is that so great you ask? Well he claims it is a calcium deposit, but it looks like he's growing a second head!

Seriously though, this DVD is great because it talks about the classic album Ace of Spades, Motorhead's fourth studio release. If you know your metal, then you know this album influenced countless bands, from Metallica to Guns n Roses.

Lemmy does most of the talking since he is Motorhead. Watch as he plays in the studio with the master tapes, talks about how the album came about, and some great road stories.

Fast Eddie said it best when he claimed he'd rather have Ace of Spades than a million quid in the bank. "This album will be here long after I'm gone, it's a legacy".

Hearing how and where the album cover was shot is priceless.

5 out of 5 stars Great Interview, this is not a concert.......2005-06-25

In a simple way, in this DVD you'll see:
A lot of interviews with original line up members (Fast Eddie, Phil Taylor and obviously Lemmy) talking about how they released Ace of Spades in datails like the picture that appears as cover, why Lemmy was bumped from Hawkwind and other stuff.
Something great is when they played (with help of tech) the chase is better than the catch, it is going to kick your ass.
If you want a live concert buy 25th still alive & boneshaker DVD, but if you want to know more about the band and very good details buy this.

1 out of 5 stars Talk about being bummed .......2005-06-25

I'm a huge Motorhead fan and have been to 10 concerts. I ordered this dvd and invited all my friends over for the party. Everyone was hammered as I inserted the dvd and cranked my huge surround system. Talk about losing your buzz. The entire dvd is 95% interviews! Its hard to even say 5% was music because they didnt even sing. Fast Eddie Clark did play Ace Of Spades (sitting down, no singing, no bass and no drums). I heard many of the Motorhead dvd's are like this. Its a shame because the band and music is pure energy at a concert. With these guys in the 60's range, I doubt I will ever be able to watch a real Motorhead concert on dvd....bummer
