1 out of 5 stars NOT A PLESANT VISION....................2005-06-24

I'LL GET RIGHT TO THE POINT ! THIS DVD IS NOT GOOD AT ALL. IT'S FOR DIEHARD FANS ONLY!!!!!!!! JOE LOOKS VERY LOADED. THE BACKUP SINGERS ARE OFTEN OFF KEY AND THE MIX IS HORRIBLE. IF YOU WANT EXCELLANT JOE THE BUY THE "ACROSS FROM MIDNIGHT" DVD. THAT DVD IS THE BENCHMARK JOE DVD. I'VE OWNED THEM ALL AND THAT ONE IS BY FAR THE BEST.........

4 out of 5 stars Joe Cocker Rocks Montreux Jazz Festival. .......2005-06-06

The year was 1987, and Joe Cocker's career resurgence was starting to heat up. This DVD filmed in Switzerland, depicts a much healthier Joe Cocker then was seen in the late 70's and early 80's. This DVD although not as polished as "Across From Midnight", gives the viewer a glimpse of Joe beginning to reshape his stage presence, that would dominate his later career. In 0ther words, he is actually smiling and having fun again, in a music business, that was not always kind to the british soul shouter. This Dvd far exceeds the awful Joe Cocker "Live", that was recorded in the early 80's. The band is tight, featuring long time Cocker guitarist Cliff Goodwin, and Eric Parker on drums to name a few. Cocker was promoting his latest release at the time "Cocker" from 1987. So we get to hear some rare live performances such as his take on the Marvin Gaye classic "Inner City Blues", "Shelter Me", and a song that would become one of his best loved modern classics, "You Can leave Your Hat On". He tackles the Jimmy Webb ballad "Just Like Always", sung with the emotion and pain that only Joe Cocker is famous for. The DVD also has some of his signature tunes like "Feelin Alright", "With A Little Help", "You Are So Beautiful", that is actually one of the rare takes on that song, because the whole band kicks in including the drummer, instead of the usual Piano only take that he performs at his live shows. Joe even sings three Dylan tunes "Dear Landlord", "Seven Days", and a show stopping high octane version of "Watching The River Flow", in which Joe is joined on stage with legendary blues man James Cotten, and some other notable musicians, giving the audience a fantastic dose of rock n blues in which Joe is at the top of his game wailing over Cottens harmonica. if you are a Joe Cocker fan, you will want to add this concert DVD to your Library for sure.
