This is an all around great video filmed in Germany of Johnny G doing his stuff for you. The live band sounds great and boy those guys on the keys can play. Video and sound quality on this DVD are top notch so if you're a fan it's worth checking. I would have given this a 5 star rating had the show included a couple more favorite songs but I got the impression that the Ohne Filter show had a specific time interval for him to cram as much as he could into it. Also, there's a bonus extra long version of "Gangster of Love" from another show on the disc.

Johnyn Guitar watson was a badd Cat. dude Re-Invented himself from a Blues Based cat into a SuperFly FunkAteer!! this DVD on stage showcases His Chops,but there wasn't enough cuts to Highlight His Later 70's Classic Jams. still it's worth having in your collection. he was truly something else&hasn't gotten his full due to me as a Musician.

This was okay, I think he missed some songs that would have made the crowd jump..i.e "Love Jones", "I wanna thank you" all on that real mutha for you album...and "Lone Ranger". He sang "real mutha for you twice and I felt he could have filled that time with the other songs mention above. But nonetheless, I really like Johnny G and I'm glad to have the DVD in my concert collection. If I find another one that was performed in the states I would scoop that one up too.

Even it something isn't Perfect? Nothng Is in Life. Enjoy for What it Is. Seeing one of the Tightest bands in the world. Plus, i had Never heard Brent Carter, nor Jeff Tamelier, both are Incrediblely gifted musicians. And its Rare to see them perform anymore.. But Its worth it for the Documentaion of how Great a band TOP truly wass and still Is . As the one reviewer said, "This show was made for tv, Not a dvd concert. i have to agree with previous reviews. i bought this dvd with such high hopes since it is the only live thing out there that i know of. i am a drummer/musician for over 40 yrs but it doesn't take much to know that the sound is SO bad which is such a shame for such a GREAT band - nowhere close to the energy of a REAL live show. it's good to have but you have to use your imagination to fill in the gaps of how great it could and should have been!!! we can only hope for something in the future - i certainly do. what is hip? this dvd ain't.

Solid performance, awful sound quality.......2005-12-23

I saw TOP on this and other tours - they are funky and tight. The band's performance on this DVD is on the money, but the persons responsible for the audio recording and/or mix should be ashamed of themselves. I am a neophyte musician and audio enthusiast and I can hoestly say that I have created some demos and on-the-fly recordings of live performances that are mixed better than this. The bass is nothing more than a low-end drone, which is unfortunate because Rocco is probably the most skilled player in this band - no disrespect to the others intended. The drums are there, but don't sound as if they're driving the band the way I remember the live shows. Buy it if you must, but I was rather disappointed.

This is a disappointing video. The camera work is okay, but the audio is mediocre. It's not mixed well; you can't hear the solos and the vocals are inconsistent. It was filmed in a TV studio which may explain the poor acoustics. If you just want a rare video record of your favorite band, buy the video. But let's hope the band comes out with something that looks and sounds better.

Well after a three year wait there is another, and early, concert of the great and innovative Albert Collins. If you don't already have BOTH Baden-Baden concerts, you'd better snatch up the Amazon deal now. OK the Inakustik people have produced some fantastic concerts in the past 4 or 5 years- they are clearly better than even the Montreux series. Great sound and picture! Albert Collins is the only performer to be featured on TWO Musik Pur DVDs (Hey the Albert King one has not been released except in Japan). This is really worth it too!

First of all Albert plays with a stripped down band- only 5 pieces. He has his oldest Icebreaker Johnny B. Gaden, who use once the bassist for the Staple Singers, with him and only one horn, a sax (Abe Locke)! Very unusual and like the original Blues Bands of the 1950s (see Buddy Guy on the Blues Masters Vol 2 (Rhino) and Howlin' Wolf in the "Devil Got My Woman"). So Albert has an interesting and different sound. His guitar player. Rob Noll has a great tone and does a bit of Albert King and Hendrix which none of his guitarists ever did and he plays a good slide as well. The drummer, Casey Jones played with Buddy Guy and Junior Wells and a lot of Chicago session work. He is also featured on the Grammy Award winning LP "Show Down" with Collins, Robert Cray and Johnny Copeland.

This January 1985 set begins with "Listen Here" as it does in the 1988 set, but it has a different groove with the smaller band. "If Trouble Was Money" one of his signature songs, written by Albert and his wife Gwendolyn- who also wrote "Mastercharge", by the way, is the slow blues for the set. This tune was originally recorded live in Japan and later appeared, towards the end of Collins life, as a duet with Gary Moore. This tune goes into one of his lesser known instrumentals "Skatin'" with a funk groove and it livens up the proceedings- but it's short!

"The Highway Is Like A Woman" is a cool 50s like R&B tune. A bit sexist, but not as much as "I'm gonna hit a Brick upside your head" in the next tune "Brick". On this one he has harpist Southside Johnny who joins the band (I can't ever remember Collins with harp and slide guitar in any of his records or bands- although Albert does play a good harp himself on the "Show Down" set). He then introduces, rather fondly, "The Things I Used To Do" written by Eddie Jones (Guitar Slim). Collins did this tune many times and has many versions of it- I like the one on his "Best of" CD released posthumously. This one is the most true to the original and has a very controlled and understated solo section by Mr Collins.

"I Got That Feeling" has a great groove and sort of shows us where Collins music went in the next eight years until his death. I like the version on the other DVD (1988) with Debbie Davies singing with him. This was the period in which Collins started to get recognition and fame. After being known only in Texas and California for years. He first toured Australia in 1985 and came back again in 1986 and 1992. Collins premature death was a blow to the Blues World and robbed us all of his creative talents. No other guitar player sounds like Albert (Joe Bonamassa has a few moments however!).

The final tune "Frosty" is his most famous ever. This is a signature tune to match Freddie King's "Hideaway". He plays it superbly and much different and more true to the original record than the 1988 show and it also has a good solo from Mr Noll as well (much different than Duke Robillard's in the 1988 show). Albert ends with his "walk' into the crowd with his great long lead (Guitar Slim was the first to do this- ask Buddy Guy). I love the story from Antone's in Texas where Albert was playing and walked out the door of the club came back and after the song a pizza was delivered, he had played down the street walked into the next door pizza place and ordered a pizza- while playing the whole time!!!

Get this DVD, material showing Albert Collins in action is very scarce. The program is wonderful and even there is some overlap with the 1988 DVD and the Mt Fuji show, the groove and feel of this show is unique.

For any real Cog fan this is a must have DVD dispite the fact that this is the only concert DVD they have to offer,this perfomance basically
consist of songs from the 100 Degrees and Rising CD and IMO this happens to be one of if not the best CD from Bluey & the Gang and I have them all.
my only dissapointment was it was simply not long enough but a fine perfomance none the less!

A DEFINITE TREASURE.......2006-06-20

I bought this DVD after some initial reluctance. I truly missed Maysa's soulful and haunting voice esp. in songs like "Still a friend of mine" (it's done awfully on the DVD I actually skip it everytime!). After listening to the DVD a couple of times though, it's become a hot favourite.

Pam Anderson does justice to her songs, "Good Love" and "Don't you worry bout a thing", a big nineties hit in South Africa. Joy Malcom is a star, and I like her attitude on Stage, "Spellbound and Speechless" being her signature tune.

When Incognito toured South africa in 2005, the sound quality was so terrible that half of the people walked out during the show.
This is the only live perfomance from the band that I have and I treasure it so much.

Nice try, but it's just not Incognito without Maysa. The Incognito musicians are fantastic, but if you're looking for the true feel of the songs, or anticipating Maysa going even deeper into the waters, you will be sorely disappointed by her absence. Sorry guys.

If you are an Incognito fan then this dvd is for you! This video ROCKS!! When you compare Incogito with other bands, Incognito wins all the time.

This is the only concert dvd out there by Incognito so you better get your copy while it lasts.

This is one of the best concert dvd's I have ever seen. Having over 200 music concert DVD's in my music library, I rate this one in the top 5. This concert rates with Santana, Sade, Maze, and Mary J. Blidge. The group is off the chain , and Joy Malcolm's - SPELLBOUND and SPEECHLESS, as she flips into her cool mode is too much. If the groove does not get you, the funk will take you out! A must have for any serious collector of great music dvd's.

Just an excellent set by Johnny and the boys.
Highlights include his signature tunes like Having A Party and Fever,plus a Bruce/Southside colaboration All The Way Home(sung the way it was meant to be sung).
The true highlight is an absolutely sensational version of
Walk Away Renee. The dvd is worth it for this tune alone (I don't think another Southside version of this song exists).

The passion Johhny has for his craft has to be seen.
His Soul Is On Fire.

Watching this, makes you feel kind of sad that so many are unfamiliar with Southside Johnny and the Jukes. And how many pretenders have acheived recognition that Southside never has.

For anyone who thinks someone like Taylor Hicks is an authentic r&b singer, please,take a look at Johnny's performance.

He is the real deal!
Johnny and the boys work harder than anybody.
Watching this dvd reinforced my opinion that when jingle singers and lounge acts become idols, it is a sad state indeed.
If they are American idols than Souhtside is master of the world and Sam Cooke is the king of the solar system!

To get a taste of somebody that is real and can deliver, get Southside Johnny's dvd.

The Jukes are always a great live band........2006-02-24

This concert of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes showcases songs from the excellent "Better Days," cd, as well as some classics. Highlights include, "The Fever," "Walk Away Renee," "Souls on Fire," "All the Way Home"(the way it was meant to be heard, not the horrible version Springsteen came out with on his last dreadful album), and "Having a Party." The only drawback is the length; just 60 minutes. Hopefully, they'll come out with a full-lenghth concert. Maybe from B.B. King's, where I saw them live in January.

It doesn't get much better than this!!.......2004-06-03

I've been admiring Southside Johnny's work from the very early days and it's great to have him on dvd. This guy really works. He's a demon on stage....all over the stage, for that matter... and this is a blistering set of rock'n'soul recorded in 1992 in a German TV studio, in Baden-Baden, in front of an adoring horde of dancing Huns. It all culminates in a rousing rave-up of Sam Cooke's "Having A Party" with Conan O'Brien's Mark Pender (with hair) contributing a high register kamikaze mission within the awesome instumental break. I had fears that the director would fade to black during the final number (like he did in the Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings show) but that didn't happen. It's all here and I'm one happy Caballero. Also good to see La Bamba on trombone but where's the hat?? Who cares.... wonderful, soulful performances all round. My only gripe is this: Some of you older guys might remember drummer Max Weinberg's tasteful cymbal work on "Talk To Me" from the "Hearts Of Stone" album. Well, that is soreley missed here. As a matter of fact the drummer here, David Beat, represents all I despise in rock'n'roll. From the dicky half-singlet to the alcoholic housewife hair and make-up. And as far as I'm concerned real men don't wear gloves when they play, but he IS very heavy-handed so we can't have him getting blisters now can we? Southside, himself, pulls no punches and works up one hell of a sweat. I love the guy! I have no problem with the audio. Yeah, maybe the mix could have been a little better but I didn't really worry about it until I read some of the other reviews. The music and vibe are important here, and the Asbury Jukes deliver. One of the better Ohne Filter dvds I've seen. Highly recommended!

The only drawback is that the sound mix does not always pay justice to all the great musicians (most noticeably Bobby Bandiera's guitar and Joey's Stann saxophone)
But it's really great stuff for any Jukes fan and it's ... region-free!

This Southside Johnny show from German Televison in 1992 is smokin'! Southside and the band are at their best during this period after the release of Better Days. Highlights include Better Days, Comin' Back, Walk Away Renee/On The Air medley, and a rousing version of Havin' A Party to close the show. If you are a Jukes fan, this is the disc for you.

John passed July21 05 . this DVD was from a 1993 German TV Show ,and I picked it up recently . I was not disappointed . He hits the stage with a top notch Gypsy -looking band; I would imagine they are his Canadian band .. and launches into 'Everyday I Have The Blues' which segues into one of his theme songs Jimmy Witherspoon's 'Money's Getting Cheaper' AKA 'Times Gettin Tougher Than Tough' . Mid way through the set , John plays some acoustic 12 string . The show is recorded well . camera work is very good too . Johns vocal could be a bit further forward in the mix , but it's OK .I would have liked to see him break down into a smaller line up or perform solo with the 12string .. It would have lended better to the dynamics of the show , but I am nitpicking . So sad he is gone .He was one of the greats . all blues /blues rock fans should see this . a classy show .Great playing from the very talented band who double a lot on various instruments .

Pure Texas Blues.......2004-11-01

Great music, great images. Texas blues aficionados know Angela and Marcia feeling, but Sarah on the Fender bass adds to the magic of their 1991 concert. The 5.1 sound of this DVD is pretty good. I didn't give the 5 stars because of the extra contents: nothing about the artists nor about the group, just the playlist and some lousy advertisement of the DVD label.
