The first quarter century of the Halloween saga, from the 1978 original to 2002's Halloween: Resurrection, is thoroughly tracked in an 83-minute documentary on the subject. The impetus is a Halloween convention held in South Pasadena (site of the original filming), from which a considerable amount of footage is drawn. Let's be clear: this two-disc set is not a reissue of the first Halloween, but a new documentary with mucho extra features.

Halloween: 25 Years Later collects interview footage of many of the original's creators, including director John Carpenter, co-writer/producer Debra Hill, and star Jamie Lee Curtis. The very good-humored co-star P.J. Soles contributes the narration (and figures in the extra goodies shot at the convention). The film marches through the years, providing some fairly interesting behind-the-scenes material: the alternate versions of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (aka Halloween 6), and the controversy over differing Michael Myers masks in Halloween H2O. Proper due is paid to Carpenter's brilliant first film, but nobody ever really comes out and says how bad most of the sequels were--although studio interference is blamed for the inadequacies of some of the pictures. The doc isn't exactly deep, but there are some decent observations about how the elemental horror of "the Shape" in the first film was contained in the film's style. Horror directors Clive Barker, Rob Zombie, and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) weigh in as well.

Most of the extras are culled from panel discussions and other interviews made during the convention. They will be absorbing for hardcore fans--and flattering to them, too, since the post-Internet faithful are lavishly credited with giving the series continued life. Sure, it's overkill--do we actually need a 25-minute panel discussion featuring the cast members of Halloween II?--but for anybody devoted to the Halloween franchise who kicked themselves for not getting to the anniversary convention, this will be almost exactly like being there. --Robert Horton

Product Description

Narrated by P.J. Soles (who played Lynda in the original HALLOWEEN), this documentary examines the legendary horror film and its legacy of more than four sequels. First released in 1978, HALLOWEEN was directed by horror legend John Carpenter and featured Jamie Lee Curtis in a breakthrough performance. HALLOWEEN: 25 YEARS OF TERROR contains interviews with more than 80 people involved in the HALLOWEEN franchise, including Carpenter, Curtis, Clive Barker, and other horror aficionados including Rob Zombie.

5 out of 5 stars A FINE TRIBUTE TO THE GENRE..........2007-05-18

This DVD was definitely worth the excruciating wait. With the title floating around for years Anchor Bay took years to release this DVD. When it finally hit store shelves I had mine reserved and it was a good thing because they were all sold out once I got there. I guess that just goes to show how popular this series is.

This is a two DVD set, which I find suitable considering Anchor Bay had years to put this together. It contains interviews, fan footage, a lot of scenes filmed from the "Halloween Returns To Haddonfield" convention from 2003, and my personal favorite...filming locations presented by Sean Clark.

For those who are unaware this in NOT a new Halloween sequel nor is it a newly released version of the classic. It is a documentary on the Halloween film series. So if you are interested in the Halloween franchise or a fan of the genre this is a film that is sure to interest you.

For the truly dedicated fans of the original film who lust after seeing the actual filming locations but are having trouble finding the exact spot on the map I have listed the addresses below for you:

- The Myers House - located at 1000 Mission Street in South Pasadena, California

- Hardware Store - located at 966 Mission Street in South Pasadena, California

- Opening Shot Of Haddonfield - located at the intersection of Montrose Avenue and Oxley Street in South Pasadena, California

- The Strode House - located at 1115 Oxley Street In South Pasadena, California

- Haddonfield High School - located at 1401 Freemont Avenue in South Pasadena, California

- Haddonfield Elementary School - located at 110 West McLean Street in Alhambra, California

- "Isn't That Devon Graham?" - located on the 1000th block of Highland Street in South Pasadena, California

- The Hedge - located at 1019 Montrose Avenue in South Pasadena, California

- The Graveyard - located at the corner of Coburn Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard in Sierra Madre, California

- The Doyle House - located at 1530 Orange Grove Avenue in West Hollywood, California

- The Wallace House - located at 1537 Orange Grove Avenue In West Hollywood, California

4 out of 5 stars Finally!.......2007-04-11

As a hugh fan, i travelled from Ireland for the Convention in Pasadena, LA. i Was so thrilled to see that footage of the convention, photos etc made its way to the DVD. a great purchase for anyone who was at the convention and a must for ALL fans of the HALLOWEEN franchise. This was my first Purchase on Amazon, All i can say is, very impressed, it was delivered Quick!!

5 out of 5 stars HALLOWEEN 25 YEARS OF TERROR.......2007-01-09

GREAT DVD TO REUNITE ALL THE MOVIE ACTORS/ACTRESSES. SHOWS FILM MAKING,VARIOUS INTERVIEWS WITH THE CAST MEMBERS AND LET ME TELL YOU THEY SURE HAVEN'T CHANGED MUCH IN THEIR LOOKS. THEY LOOK JUST AS GOOD AS THEY DID IN THE MOVIES, I ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT MICHAEL MYERS LOOKED LIKE W/OUT THE MASK AND THERE ARE INTERVIEWS WITH THE ACTUAL PORTAYER MICHAEL MYERS HIMSELF. TOTALLY AWESOME.

5 out of 5 stars Nancy Loomis surfaces!! Great footage packed DVD!.......2006-11-07

I've been a fan of the original since it's 1981 TV premiere. This DVD captures the spirit of the fans and their love of the film franchise. Packed with trivia, movie stills, footage from the sets, and interviews - it's a fan's delight.

Of special note is the interview of NANCY LOOMIS (Annie, H1). Ms. Loomis stepped away from the spotlight a number of years ago, so what a treat to hear her thoughts on her character and the classic film.

An added bonus is the inclusion of clips from the 2003 Halloween Returns to Haddonfield Convention. These clips are panel discussions with cast members and behind the scenes artists.

This DVD is a most complete look at one of the scariest movie horror franchise that refuses to die! Enjoy..

4 out of 5 stars Halloween Packed, Yet Too Much of Too Little.......2006-10-26

Similar to the discouraged fans below, I found that Halloween: 25 Years of Terror was more of a keepsake rather than a documentary of true historic value. This is a film filled with trivia seen on any of the documentaries from the countless Halloween DVDs, yet spliced with Ritalin hyped fans that seem a bit youthful rather than insightful--were any demographics taken into account of this?

However, this is a wet dream for any Halloween fan--which would include myself.

Having P.J. Soles narrating the film was a nice touch. She doesn't falter or seem disoriented from the source material either. She adds to the flow of the film which is good since usually documentaries seem to run amok in mud and grow tiresome after awhile.

Though what is bothersome is the abundance of interviews, yet only the mere minute (and even less) that are shown on the actual documentary. I found more insightful material in the bonus features, which flood the DVD making the release all the better. You just need to look around for what answers you want to find.

Then again, making a documentary on the films themselves is a bit tedious, and the director does an exceptional job, only that it seems more of a documentary on the convention rather than the series.

Nevertheless, this is a set that anyone interested or already in love with the series has to have. With the rocky roads and handy patch work the Halloween series has received, it's nice to know someone has bandaged it up and managed to package together something that seems to correlate with one another.

That just doesn't happen in the storyline of Michael Myers. And everyone knows that.

3 out of 5 stars A must-buy, although some bizarre omissions........2007-06-26

There's no way that I couldn't have NOT purchased this set for my collection (does that make any sense? read it again) but there were some really glaring omissions that were a little irritating and made me think, "Are they doing this for the sole reason that they want to sell me another installment?" Answer: probably yes.
For example, we have the skit of Lorne Michaels offering three thousand dollars to the Beatles, and we have the scene of him explaining to George Harrison, on a subsequent guest spot, that the offer was for "all four" of them-- but no song performance by George. Why omit a four minute--maximum--performance by one of the best known musicians of the twentieth century after you have already taken the trouble to introduce him into the mix?
Also, we have the commercial parody with Stevie Wonder selling cameras, but no song performance.
I think that they would have done a lot better to do the following: put more care into selecting a comprehensive set of appearances from each era, and then sell each era as a separate set. I would gladly have paid this amount four times for a really good set of four five-year time spans, and then been able to avoid the crappy comedy and mediocre pop music from the last five years covered in this set.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome Collection.......2007-02-24

This is an awesome collection of some of the best moments from Saturday Night Live, especially the early (pre-Spice Girls) days. Great performances by Patty Smith, Paul Simon, Beck, REM, the list goes on and on. I deducted a star for some of the music-related skits that were totally un-funny. The early ones were good (Bill Murray's cheesy lounge lizard act - priceless!) but declined in quality as the show got older - which is reflected by the rest of SNL as a whole.

2 out of 5 stars Too much missing!.......2007-01-16

The quality of this 5 dvd set is very good and there are some excellent performances as one would expect when buying this type of compilation. However there are some very noteable omissions that deserve to be here, considering that rare footage such as Sinead O'Connor ripping up the Popes's picture did make the grade.
Some noteables missing;
George Harrison / Paul Simon singing Here Comes The Sun, Homeward Bound
The Clash: Should I Stay Or Should I Go
The Stones: Beast of Burden, Shattered
Blondie: Dreaming
Tom Petty: I Need To Know.

James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Devo, the list of omissions is very long and although I know that you can't satisfy everyone, I am willing to bet that a superior followup to this DVD could be made from only the omissions. Had the producers lightened up on the sketches and devoted that space to additional music, this set would have been worth the money.
Let's hope that somewhere down the line, they realize how much stuff is still in the vault and they decide to make a true compilation.

3 out of 5 stars SNL, Sign Of The Times.......2006-07-04

I was 11 years old when SNL first hit the airwaves. I lived in Greenwich Village NY and was into the show right off the bat. I even ran into Belushi, Akyroid and Chase in a diner in the village and was the only one there to ask for an autograph they were that new. As far as the music goes, this show was awesome to have groups like Elvis Costello and The Specials on the air in the 70's, that was my favorite stuff to see and really got me into the music. The Blues Brothers and Joe Cocker's appearances were also great. I'm looking at the groups for each disc and I see that I have greatly departed from the tastes of the SNL group escpecially when you get to disc 5. I think Metallica and Garbage are on that one but thats about all I could take. I haven't seen SNL in at least 5 years, I guess I'm tired of Bush bashing, and the lack of musical talent that I enjoy that the show has to offer is probably another reason. The shows curse is when it is so successful, the stars get the big money in Hollywood and we get stuck with a bunch of lame comedians and a producer who has decided not to hide his political biases because he's old and rich and has nothing to lose. SNL, sign of my times.

3 out of 5 stars No Leon Redbone?.......2006-01-07

Unless i missed it there's no Leon Redbone on this set. To my knowledge there's no Leon on dvd?? Please give us some Redbone.

3 out of 5 stars Letterbox? Squished!.......2007-06-13

The content is five stars, but the presentation is a 1. The original broadcast was in letterbox HD format, with a 16x9 aspect ratio. Granted this is not an HD DVD, but for some reason, the picture has been squished into a 4x3 (1.33:1) format. No amount of DVD player tweaking changes this, this despite the claim on the box that the video is "letterbox"'ed. Now, the cover on my box is different from that shown here, so I'm wondering if I got a defective early batch. PBS is sending me a replacement, so stay tuned!

4 out of 5 stars Would have liked more scenes from the old programs.......2007-04-07

This DVD has some great wildlife scenes from Nature's 25 years. I especially liked the one in which the two elephants, Shirley and Jenny, recognize each other as friends after 25 years-- a heartwarming moment like no other in the series. But most of the scenes are from the past few years of the show. The only clip from an episode with narration by George Page was from "Kingdom of the Ice Bear". Page had created the series, hosted and narrated it for many years. There was a tribute to his work by Lynne Sherr, who hosts the special. But it was a somewhat of a disappointment that scenes from more of the old episodes were not included, which, I think were "The Best of Nature". A few of the old programs are available on DVD here at Amazon, and they are well worth getting if you are a fan of the show. But most of them, which were once available on VHS, have not been transferred to DVD.

This is Lucy at her finest: getting drunk on Vitameatavegamin, stuffing chocolates down her dress on the assembly line, sinking in quicksand with Jack Benny, and making movie deals with fellow cleaning woman Carol Burnett. This 1976 tribute to Lucille Ball captures prize moments from her three television series (most notably I Love Lucy), highlights from her movie career, and excerpts from numerous other TV appearances. Each segment of the 97-minute special is introduced by famous cohorts, from series regulars such as ex-husband Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and Gale Gordon to sometime coworkers like John Wayne, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dick Van Dyke. Although she lived another 13 years after this special was made and had a fourth go at a TV series, this DVD captures the most brilliant moments of her trademark physical comedy. The red-haired queen of American comedy makes an appearance at the end when Jimmy Stewart gives her an honorary plaque, making for a nostalgic moment. A short time later the credits roll, revealing that Ball's production company was behind the tribute and reminding viewers she wasn't a bad businesswoman either. --Kimberly Heinrichs

4 out of 5 stars Great clips, but not enough Lucy.......2005-03-11

This program was a great tribute to a wonderful actress. All of Lucy's best and funniest moments are shown here Vitametavegemin, candy factory, grape stomping etc. It was also nice to see all the big stars at the time paying tribute to Lucy. It makes me sad to see how many we have lost over the years. This DVD should have had a lot more of Lucy in it. She is only on at the very end of the DVD to accept a plaque. You would think that since this was a tribute to her, she would have been in it a lot more.

5 out of 5 stars When Stars Ruled Hollywood.......2002-11-23

This show is so full of Hollywood Stars and I mean when stars were Stars. Legends. It's one of the greatest tributes of all time. If your a fan of the older stars you'll love this. I'm talking about a time in history when Bette Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Lucille Ball, Frank Sinatra were in their heyday this is for you. Such class and elegance is unfortunately lost in our society today. If you want to see that again, BUY THIS DVD. As a matter of fact buy two copies. It's well worth the investment.

1 out of 5 stars A SHODDY COMPILATION OF A BIG TV STAR'S CAREER.......2001-08-17

CBS RUSHED THIS TV SPECIAL OUT BACK IN '76 TO MASSAGE THE EGO OF ITS' BIGGEST PRIME TIME MONEY MAKER OF ALL TIME. SHE WAS IN SEMI-RETIREMENT WHEN THIS TV SPECIAL AIRED. CLAD IN A WIG, UGLY GOWN AND DRAG QUEEN LIKE MAKE-UP, LUCY'S ACCEPTS A JIVE PLAQUE FROM JAMES STEWART AT THE END OF THIS TIRED MONTAGE OF HER TV WORK. SHE SEEMED JUST HAPPY TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO. BACKGAMMON,BOOZE AND CIGARETTES WAS WHAT SHE PASSED TIME WITH IN HER LONELY BEVERLY HILLS MANSION. HER HUSBAND, GARRY MORTON WAS PLAYING TENNIS AND SLEEPING AROUND. SAD FINAL YEARS OF TV'S TOP STAR.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST NEVER BEFORE SEEN.......2001-07-27

I THINK THAT IS GREAT THAT THEY MADE THIS ONE FOR PEOPLE THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT LUCILLE BALL WAS CAPABLE OF. THEY SHOW A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF SHE DID DURING HER CARRER. I THINK SHE WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST FEMALE COMEDIAN THAT EVER LIVED.

2 out of 5 stars Misleading.......2005-06-22

On the back of the box it says it showcases every NBA Finals from 1979 to 2004. Where is the 1979 Finals between the Sonics and Bullets? Also this is a re-hash of the highlight tapes released in the late 80's that are still being released today.

In the 76ers/Bulls/Laker/Celtics Dynasty Series complete games are shown, why couldnt they at the very least show some complete clinching games from those years?

5 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE!.......2005-06-05

First of all, in regard to the previous review...you have to know what you 're buying.I knew that this dvd was a collection of every championship season video(1980-2004).I also read the product review which says "The program features all the drama and highlights of the championship team's drive to the NBA Finals".Meaning the videos focus on the winning team and they also focus on the finals. Some of 'em don't follow that exact formula but guess what...these for me are the weakest.because, let's face it you cannot fit one Nba season in a one hour video.Anyway there are all the great moments,players,plays...it simply doesn't get any better.except in some cases like the "return to glory"('85 Lakers)which is poorly produced...the narrator speaks constantly without altering his voice tone, and after a while he becomes quite irritating.Speaking of irritating the music in the videos from '80-'87 tottally sucks! But let's face it,these are minor flows...Top 5 videos '90 pistons '93 Bulls '98 Bulls 2000 Lakers '84 Celtics

3 out of 5 stars This DVD is alright........2005-06-05

This DVD set is great if you want to see half of how both teams made the Finals and half for how the team that won the title got there. I actually really liked the set from 1980-1986 because each year went over how the whole playoffs and even the regular season (especially 1984 which included the All-Star Weekend) went and how both teams got to the NBA Finals. But then when it got to the 1987 Finals it became a team video on how the Lakers did for the whole season and had no details on how the Celtics got there, after that 1988 went the same way with a Laker team video with no mention of how the Pistons got there, but then 1989 it went back to how both the Pistons and Lakers made the Finals and also the Inaugural Seasons for the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat and then 1990 and on it went to just the winning teams video. So if you're looking for a history of the last 25 NBA Champions well you're not going to get the whole story. This DVD set is good but if you're a fan of the losing team from any of the Finals you may not find how you're team got there.

1 out of 5 stars Arista - The Low Lights and Whitney Crack Slide .......2005-12-07

When this show aired on TV there were a number of absolutely haunting moments. A couple are caught here: Annie Lennox "Why", Sarah McLachlan "Angel", and Toni Braxton 'Unbreak My Heart." Unexplainably absent are the Jennifer Holliday "And I am Telling You" and Patti Smith and Fred Sonic Smith acoustic version of "People Have The Power". Both of which were part of an AIDS tribute that left the live audience and TV audience in stunned silence for their sheer brilliance and pure emotional power.

This DVD is edited to hell. Very few performances are left wholly intact and overall it is re-edited more toward an MTV, minimal attention span audience, rather than a true music fan. It is a waste of money. The majority of tracks are parts of poorly edited montages and the choice of performances is truly odd (P. Diddy lip synching and an overblown horrendous version of "Missing You" with his "yeah, yeah" - "put your hand in the air" crap). And Whitney, for all her glorious talent, was clearly beginning the down slide of her self-destructive, crack addict slope. Powerful singing, but, with Bobby Brown running on stage like a fool trying to get some spotlight, you need only know the rest of her stoy to see how sad and pathetic the situation was. Dionne Warwick - not a big favorite of mine was edited to a chorus of two of her biggest songs and the true finale - an all star "That's What Friends Are For" (remember it was an AIDS benefit) inexplicably was edited in mid-song with credits rolling over it. A bloated, out of breath Aretha Franklin yelps her way through "I Knew You Were Waiting" and "Freeway of Love" before giving equal time to the whooped up refrain "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" AND she wasn't even a live portion of the original show. Jesus!

If you are looking for a copy of the stirring TV broadcast. This ain't it. Then again, it was repackaged from "The Arista 25th Anniversary Celebration" to "Arista 25 Years of #1 Hits." It's light on hits and shows "Arista the forgettable years." What a complete letdown. Don't bother with this let down. I felt ripped off and angry after viewing it - having seen the original. Pass on this crap.

4 out of 5 stars Good Show.......2004-10-10

This a very good show. Highlights are Toni Braxton, Barry Manilow, Santana and Whitney Houston.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Musical Montage.......2003-09-20

Being quite possibly the biggest Whitney Houston fan in the world, this was the last DVD standing between me and the completion of my collection. I wish I would've purchased this DVD sooner. The Whitney performances are absolutely amazing. She proves on this night why she is the greatest voice of all time. Her stage presence is magical, her vocals flawless, and her beauty radiates from within. She revitalizes old favorites like I Wanna Dance With Somebody and How Will I Know with new beats and arrangements. She takes I Believe In You & Me and I Will Always Love You to new heights. It's amazing.
While I bought this DVD with Whitney in mind... the whole concert is excellent. Barry Manilow, Aretha Franklin, Sarah McLachlan, Puff Daddy, Toni Braxton, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Santana, and Kenny G shine on this DVD. Also being a fan of concerts on DVD, it is rare to find one this entertaining, and in which the artists sound so good. It just goes to prove that Arista's artists are truly talented. This is a must have if you enjoy good music. You won't be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars buy it just for WHITNEY - unbelievably excellent!!!!!!!.......2003-07-28

For all of those people who think that whitney lost her magic, they need to see this performance from 2000 (at the height of when she was supposedly in very bad shape). this DVD is excellent. the highlights are annie lenox singing why (she nails it like ive never seen), deborah cox singing nobody's supposed to be here (not televised), and the ultimate whitney houston performance.

Whitney starts off by singing the best versions of i wanna dance with somebody and how will i know back to back. she looks absolutely amazing and moves like youve never seen her. she controls the stage like no other has - ever! then she sings the beginning of i believe in you and me and moves into the best performance of i will always love you that i have heard. she holds every note longer than usual and adlibs soooo well in this rendition. you honestly have to see it. some people say that her divas live version was her best, but i like this one for sure. she ends by singing a very good version of my love is your love (one of her newer songs - a multi-platinum single). she stole the show.

bottom line -BUY this DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you wont be sorry.

4 out of 5 stars Hear Ye! The Stars Honor Lord Clive For Thine Bemusement.......2003-03-20

Plenty of pop music's finest appear and perform here to pay tribute to Arista Records' founder and uncanny finder-of-hit-singles Clive Davis. This tribute was originally broadcast on NBC in 2000.

This DVD includes excellent solo performances by Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan, Toni Braxton, and Patti Smith, as well as hits medleys by Barry Manilow, Aretha Franklin (via satellite), and Whitney Houston. Whitney was particularly spectacular here. The show opened with Santana, who was red-hot as of 2000 with #1 hits "Smooth" and "Maria Maria." He performed both, the former without Rob Thomas but the latter with The Product G&B.

Mr. Santana exemplifies both of Clive Davis' major achievements in pop and rock history. At Arista, he brilliantly resurrected the careers of several artists who had slipped from pop prominence. Santana had not made the singles chart since 1985; other stars enjoying comebacks at Arista included Dionne Warwick and Franklin. At Columbia in the late sixties, he was responsible (all or in part) for bringing Santana, as well as Janis Joplin, Sly and The Family Stone, and Earth, Wind & Fire to the label. This helped free the label from Mitch Miller's rock-loathing stranglehold, a process begun by John Hammond with Bob Dylan's signing years before.

This show exclusively featured live performances from acts still signed to Arista at showtime. That means, disappointingly, that such former Arista heavyweights as the Bay City Rollers, Air Supply, Melissa Manchester, underrated goddess Lisa Stansfield, the Thompson Twins, Ray Parker, Jr., and Eric Carmen are relegated to taped snippets of old videos of some of their hits. (These are all presented as "#1 Hits" even though many of them fell somewhat short of the top of any actual charts. That's showbiz, kids.)

Among those not mentioned at all were the Alan Parsons Project, Taylor Dayne, or Al Stewart. The venerable Kinks, who also enjoyed a huge comeback with the label from roughly '77-'85, were relegated to one of those #1 snippets (for their #6 hit "Come Dancing").

There are four fine "bonus performances" not listed on the back of the disc. Dionne Warwick's performance of "I'll Never Love This Way Again," with Barry Manilow on the piano, is fantastic. She shows that she can sing with power, yet not be overpowering (hint, hint, "American Idol" finalists). Monica does a beautiful version of her (actual) #1 hit "For You I Will." The other bonus songs are an upbeat Santana instrumental, and Deborah Cox's dance anthem "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here."

There could have been even more bonus material included. As it was on TV, the finale "That's What Friends Are For" is picked up halfway through, then marred by the closing credits for its last 2 minutes. Songs from British boy band Westlife and hip hop wannabes LFO were reduced to brief clips. Fans of Kenny G will be annoyed to see the G-man's one big moment here ("Songbird") immediately reduced to background music for a(nother) film-clip tribute to Clive. Finally, it seems that Manilow (with and without Warwick) was on stage more than what appears here, and to deny us every second of that is just...so...wrong...

Speaking of showbiz, Clive Davis left Arista shortly after this broadcast. He was replaced by R&B kingpins L.A. Reid and Babyface. Then he went on to form J Records, now home to Alicia Keys, O-Town, and veterans Rod Stewart and Luther Vandross. In 2001, golden boy Manilow decided to leave Arista, which is presently having trouble getting you and me to buy the latest records from Whitney and Toni.

Overall, though, fans of any of the performers here should pick this baby up. Mr. Davis' 25-year run at Arista was a rare time of pop music excellence and it is commemorated nicely in this DVD.

    Product Description

Long before MTV unplugged, Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady thought it would be cool to perform a few old blues as a set-breaking contrast to the Airplane s acid-and-revolution epiphanies. This novelty act of the psychedelic circuit evolved into Hot Tuna, and Jesse Block s concert documentary, 25 Years and Runnin , celebrates the simple sustaining powers of blues, bars, and Tuna. Jorma and Jack reflect on their influences and musical partnership since playing in a high school garage band, while their fans explain the Jorma/Jack chemistry that s kept them tuned into Tuna for a quarter century. The documentary s subtitle, Live at Sweetwater (a Bay Area landmark club), is the crux of this DVD, live performances of ragtime blues standards and Tuna originals that exemplify the free spirit that s kept Hot Tuna runnin all these years. Jorma and Jack are ably assisted by Tuna mates Michael Falzarano (guitar, vocals, mandolin) and Pete Sears (keyboards, accordion). The Grateful Dead s Bob Weir and Maria Muldaur guest on a romp across Dylan s Maggie s Farm. Titles include: San Francisco Bay Blues, Trial By Fire, Let Us Get Together, Pass The Snakes, Hesitation Blues, Embryonic Journey, I Know You Rider, I War The One, 99 Year Blues, Maggie s Farm, Folsom Prison Blues Bonus tracks: Walkin Blues, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, I See The Light, Ice Age, Genesis, Good Shepherd, Parchman Farm
