ENGELBERT Totally Amazing.......2007-05-25

Being fans of ENGELBERT my wife & I enjoyed this movie almost as much as the Totally Amazing live concert we went to.It's a great addition to our collection of CDs & DVDs that all romantics and music lovers would be sure to enjoy. As much as we enjoy live concerts it's terrific to be able to invite ENGELBERT into our lounge room to recap on anything we missed or want to see again.

The performance may not be his best, but even so it's a very good show, the version of the song "My Way" has been a little over rated in the other coments.
Finally a very good live performer, the albun "the 16 most requested songs" its a must.

Get the concert where he sings "Still".

Great DVD but not the best.......2007-04-19

This DVD is great. Enge's voice is still smoking. But the songs selection are not the best. If you have to choose between Totally Amazing and Engelbert Live, I'd recommend the latter, although the image is not as crisp as Totally Amazing as it was recorded in 1995. But the sound quality is there. Guaranteed you'll enjoy Engelbert Live if you are a fan.

Great Singer Still Sounding Good.......2007-02-02

Overall I thought the performance on this DVD is superb and is highly recommended. The performance on some old standards like Cry and My Way were worth the price of the DVD alone. I do think that Engelbert is a Great Entertainer but would have liked to hear more of his hits but due to the length of the show I guess this would not be possible.If you are a fan then this is a must have item as he still sounds good and will be something you can look back on for years to come.

This is a good selection of hits. Don't expect superior image quality as this was recorded in 1995. I played in on my 1080i Sony with a good DVD. But the sound quality and songs are excellent and will outweigh the image quality. A must have for any Engelbert fan.

When I ordered this DVD I noticed how many 5 stars it had been given. Having just seen the beginning of the show I can see why. We always thought he was great and even eclipsed the bigger superstars of his day. His presence on stage is immense and he effortlessly directs the whole experience. He is a superstar and I wish I could award more than 5 stars. Go get it!

ROMANTIC, CLASSY PERFORMANCE BY ENGELBERT!.......2005-11-09

This concert was wonderful!!!!! The selection of songs are the most beautiful and so romantic. The Bebu Silvetti Orchestra was outstanding. I highly recommend this DVD. You won't be disappointed and you just can't go wrong getting this DVD. After just a few songs, Engelbert warms up and
really put on a superb performance. Then there is the special performance with Michaela who sang a Nat King Cole Song entitled "When I Fall in Love" with Engelbert and then she sings the Spanish song"Malaguena" alone which was sung absolutely perfect. She has quite a vocal range in this and really impressed me. This DVD is a must have. It has all the songs you need to hear him sing. I love it second best to the Tom Jones Live in Cardiff Castle DVD which is also out now and another absolute must have with all the Tom Jones greatest songs and some newer ones too, like The Boy From Nowhere and Kiss. He still has it also in a big way.

I BOUGHT THIS AFTERBUYING TOTALLY AMAZING (2006) WHICHIS JUST INCREDIBLE,Much better than hewas in 1995!Lots offlat notes, and i Dont care for Michelina at all.Not to take anythingaway from Enge, thisconcert has its moments, but after Totally amazing, i really see hes so much better with age.I was taken by surprise in the 1995interview how old heseems in comparison to his stage appearence. Make up magic i guess. He looks better now!All in all ill say again OK,Just ok, but dissapointing.Get Totally Amazing instead, you will be amazed. Skip this one.

This is by far the best of his DVD. In fact, I owned 3 of this DVD. My last purchase was because I wanted the CD, so that I can listen sometimes without watching the DVD. I can listen/watch it without getting tired of it. In fact, the more I play it, the more you appreciate & enjoy what a great singer Engelbert is ! This is a highly recommended DVD for everyone.

Englebert still has the magic. DTS sound is fabulous and the colors are vivid. The 54-piece orchestra and the background singers add so much to the concert. Absolutely fantastic music!

In this live performance from the Forum in Los Angeles in 1995, Engelbert has the same amazing vocal range, breath control and smooth sound he had in the late '60s and '70s when he had his own television show, and pop hits like "Release Me" and the many romantic ballads that made him a superstar, in fact he is quoted in the liner notes as saying "time gives you more experience, and I sing with more depth now because I draw on that experience whenever possible".

This is a terrific concert, and a lot of the credit goes to the fabulous arranger/musical director Bebu Silvetti, who has done so much marvelous work with top Latin music stars like Luis Miguel and Rocio Durcal. He weaves his magic here with lush arrangements and superb musicianship, and in the section that takes place in a recording studio ("Smoke Gets in Your Eyes") and the duo with Engelbert and Bebu on piano ("The Shadow of Your Smile"), one can tell that these two men have a rapport and admiration of each others' skills and talent.

Engelbert is also backed by an wonderful trio of singers, and one of them, Michaela, gets to show how well she can sing solo with a stupendous "Malagueña", and she also sings a duet with Engelbert ("When I Fall in Love").
In "Quando, Quando, Quando", he really lets loose, dancing as well as singing. He looks good in the first half in black with a silver waistcoat, and in the second half in a purple flounced shirt. The final two numbers are extraordinary..."Unchained Melody" is fantastic, and his "Ave Maria" encore sublime.
Total running time is 2 hours.

The DVD extras include a long interview that takes place in Engelbert's home in England, a great old house on 25 acres of land, with many gardens designed by his wife; he tells stories of his life, which are quite fascinating, and a combination of hard work, fate, and God's blessings.
There is also a "photo gallery" with a few photos, most of them seen in the interview section.
This package comes with the CD of the concert, making it a super value. The only tracks missing from the CD are the studio recording session of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", and the "Malagueña" sung by Michaela.

Whilst Mr Humperdinck has grown old gracefully and seams to stil have the following, his voice and ability still remains to a large degree, the dvd is filled with the standard Humperdinck material and revised hits in a disco styled beat. I have always thought that he talks to much inbetween songs and should just get on with it, still in good voice but clever arrangements and much of the same power. Its a overall good buy and nice to have as it is pretty recent, 2001.

Disappointed!!!.......2005-04-28

I am a big Engelbert fan, but this dvd was very disappointing. His heart didn't seem to be in it. He did have a couple of good songs, and I enjoyed his daughter's performance. Part of the problem is that the band drowns out his voice in a lot of the songs. It's as if they slapped something together and therefore ended up with a product of very poor quality. I'd return it and get my money back if I could. I'd recommend "Engelbert Live" instead. That one is well worth the money.

an astonishing concert.......2004-12-30

This 1990 concert from the Hippodrome in Burlingham has a slight "bootleg" quality to its audio/video...quite a bit of fuzziness when the lighting is bright, and some feedback from the mike, but it is astonishing in its energy, and the variety of this man's talent that is displayed.
This is not "The King of Romance" in a smooth and polished performance (for that, see the "Live" concert from 1995), but rather a rowdy, raucous, brilliant and electric show from a man who truly loves his audience, and in this case it's a crowd that appreciates the sometimes bawdy aspects of this particular concert.

Some of it is laugh-out-loud hilarious; his impressions are first rate, and he does Frankie Vaughn, Liberace, tells a joke as Jerry Lewis, sings a song a la Dean Martin, and does an Elvis that is a masterpiece. He captures the voice and the body language, and with great comedic flair, takes it a few steps further.
Engelbert also sings some songs he wrote: "I Get Lonely", "Step Into My Life", "What Am I Going to do Without You", and "Someone to Love", and he also dances and plays the piano...and gives his all...and then gives more, pouring himself out to his audience, body and soul (and quite literally...as he is soaked with sweat). He is in his early 50's here, and in remarkable physical shape.

For vocal artistry there is Edith Piaf's "If You Love Me (Really Love Me)", and the encore, "I Believe", both sung with a heartfelt emotion that is contagious, and hard to listen to and keep a dry eye, and though there are other lovely songs like "This Moment in Time", and a medley of his early hits, those two songs are musically the standouts.
And then there is Ellen, a young woman from the audience who gets teased a lot, and kissed a lot. She's a really good sport, and I'm sure enjoyed every minute of it...and her husband, who was fortunately not in the audience, must love this DVD. I bet he gets teased at the local pub about it.
This is the down-home Engelbert...you'll even get a very funny midlands language lesson. It's a rare treat, from a very rare talent. Total running time is 90 minutes.

Engelbert, the name screams romance and the best voice in the world. Even at the age of 66, he is still the best there is and a humble man to beat. This concert was fun to watch and the DVD was more fun to view than just a video tape.

Pure Fun.......2002-11-16

I have only recently discovered Engelbert Humperdinck's music, and ordered this video to round out my new collection of his CD's. He has a great sense of humor about himself and gives of himself to the audience in a free, generous way that cultivates playfulness and fun, in addition to the requisite romantic moments. The more I watch it, the more I enjoy it. His ability to belt out a ballad is impressive. I think he's a great entertainer.

God's Gift.......2002-05-14

You cannot compare any other voice to Engelbert < especially in the video "Love Unchained" and :Live at the London Palladium" I realize these are not the ones I have rated, but I have followed his career since 1967, I find that the audio is bad in the "Engelbert Live" one, Other than that it"s great, as he is.

Engelbert is good...DVD quality is not.......2000-11-23

It's a shame such an excellent ballad singer as Engelbert was only capable of having such a low quality DVD produced. For starters, the picture quality is the worst of my entire DVD collection. The lame 2-channel sound is not much better. There is constant feedback through his microphone while he is singing, which is often annoying, during the show. Although he sings decent on most songs, he is far too often goofing off with the audience, in a manner not becoming of a superstar. Perhaps his other DVD release is a better production and provides a better representation of what Humperdinck show is actually like. This one is not a winner.

He gave an incredible performance at the London RAH. EH could have given this outstanding performance with or without the London orchestra, back-up singers, and dancers. Although the entire show and all its performers were wonderful, EH really shines.

the Royal Albert Hall concert.......2005-01-07

With the London Symphony Orchestra, four dancing girls, three back-up singers, as well as his excellent band led by Frank Leon, Engelbert gives us a terrific concert, the earliest of those currently available on DVD, from 1985.
It has a good selection of songs, and even a touch of disco, with "I'm So Excited" and "Come a Little Closer" which he sings and dances with the girls, with a lot of choreography involved in the routines.
There is a medley of songs Nat King Cole made famous, with a marvelous "Mona Lisa" to a solo guitar accompaniment (by Rick Vittallo), as well as many of Engelbert's early hits. Two songs that are standouts are Lionel Richie's "Hello", and my favorite, a superb rendition of Edith Piaf's "If You Love me (Really Love Me) which is the encore.
Engelbert is 49 in this concert and looks fantastic. Rakishly handsome, he has that trouble with a capital T look that the ladies tend to go for.

When compared to the DVDs of later shows, the 1990 from Birmingham (a rowdy, fabulous show, despite the fuzzy audio/visual quality), the 1995 show with Bebu Silvetti which is smooth and rich, and the London Palladium show from 2000, one can see how Engelbert kept getting better, as an artist and showman; like fine wine, he improved with age, and there is luster and polish to his performances that increases as time goes by. Nevertheless, this 1985 concert is fine entertainment, and his voice is always a marvel to listen too.
The audio/visual quality is much better than the '90 concert, but not as good as the '95 and 2000 shows, and total playing time is 59 minutes.
