If you cant give any of the MONSTERS Of METAL 4 or 5 stars, then obviously you have no idea what Metal is. This is a Definitive and a must have compilation, I bought Vol. 1 because of IN FLAMES and MNEMIC. To my surprise, I ended up likeing 99% of the bands on any of the previous 3 Volumns. If it wasnt for
IN FLAMES, MNEMIC and this series I would have missed out on alot of GREAT METAL, real METAL!! No SLIPKNOT, No KORN, No MUDVAYNE!!!

This first volume in the Monsters of Metal collection is better than the second in many ways. Maybe the extras aren't as fancy, but that's about it. It features some great videos, new and old, from some of today's top metal bands. True, amny of the bands featured are Nuclear Blast signings, given that this 2-disc set was produced by that label, but there still is plenty of diversity in the choice of artists. It has everything on it from modern pop metal Sevendust to extreme death metal like Sinister, and just about every style in between. Industrial, goth metal, melodic death, power metal, prog metal, grind, thrash...it's all there. Also, the artists are from all over the globe. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, England, Holland, Italy, Austria, US, Canada...it's all here.

Some videos really stand out above them all, and it is obvious that some are indeed classics. Some of the classics from this include: Morbid Angel's 1989 video for "Eternal Rites," Carcass' 1993 video for "No Love Lost," Pungent Stench's 1993 video for "Viva Las Muertes," among others.

My top 5 favorite videos from disc 1 (no order) are:

1. Sonata Arctica "Wolf and Raven"
2. Dimmu Borgir "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse"
3. Helloween "Just A Little Sign"
4. Stratovarius "Eagleheart"
5. Cradle of Filth "Her Ghost In The Fog"

My top 5 favorite videos from disc 2 (no order) are:

1. Thunderstone "Virus"
2. Rhapsody "Power of The Dragonflame"
3. Carcass "No Love Lost"
4. Mnemic "Ghost"
5. Gathering "Leaves"

Ultimately, I'd highly recommend it to any fan of metal DVD comps, this is the top of the game.

i got this DVD because it features a lot of my favorite bands (Borgir, Bodom, Hypocrisy, Emperor, etc) and on one hand i was very satisfied with this and on the other hand i was very dissapointed. the satisfying aspects are that i havent seen a lot of these videos in DVD quality. and the DVD helped me get into bands i hadnt heard of before (Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica, Strapping Young Lad, Darkane, etc). but one thing that bothered me is that a lot of these videos arent the bands most recent video. the Dimmu Borgir video is i think the newest video on there, even tho In Flames, Hypocrisy, Children Of Bodom, and im sure a bunch of others have come out with newer videos before the Borgir one was ever released (im sure this is just so they can have a number 2 sooner than later, but dissapointing all the same). also the sound seems odd to me. i had to watch it on my computer, sounded fine. but on my TV it sounded like my speakers were going to explode, even with the volume very low the audio seemed too loud and scratchy and overdriven. and a lot, A LOT of the vidoes on here AREN'T worth watching. id say theres maybe 8 videos on here i watch. the rest just seem like they threw them on there so they could say they have this big huge 50 video extravaganza. i couldnt sit and watch this DVD over and over again, so for the money i think i kinda got ripped off. i watched it once, skipping a BUNCH of videos, and ive played a couple vidoes for friends here and there, but thats it. its not even about low budget, its just that a lot of the bands on there SUCK. even tho i have immense respect for metal, some of it is very, VERY laughable (watch the Kataklysm live video and watch the lead singer's fist-pumping be entirely off beat. also his lame arm movements are worth a good laugh as well). i think my favorite part of the video is the Hypocrisy live clip of Fire In The Sky. but if you like these bands, just look carefully at the contents before buying it, and have fun. PS: it also REALLY irritates me how they edit down songs for videos. the amount of music that they cut out of the Dimmu Borgir song is disgusting. i thought at least a DVD i payed 30 bucks for they'd have the full versions.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST METAL COLLECTION OUT THERE!!!!!!!!.......2004-06-23

This collection is the best it gets....and I own maybe 15 metal compilation videos like this.....I mean between the two dvds there are 50 songs, so anyone into metal can find something they like.....The Dimmu video that opens the DVD will blow you away, the CRADLE OF FILTH video is absoulutely amazing in the mood it creates (and I disliked the cradle before watching this tape)...and finally the Video for In flames Trigger made much more sense when you watch the Soilwork video (another of my favorites); there is some classic stuff with Morbid Angel's Immortal Rites and then some IRON MAIDEN, and the newer classics like the Emperor video (before black metal bands could get big video budget). THere were a few disappointments, like the "fun in the studio" video by Lacuna coil (but you have to check out the Swamped video by them on the Century Media website), The Gathering "leaves" video is acutally live so i don't know why it wasn't placed in the live section, The Theatre of Tragedy entry was a disappointment in comparison to their other work, and, well, some of the power metal videos are a little high on the Cheese scale for me.......IN CONCLUSION: IF YOU ARE A METAL FAN, YOU MUST OWN THIS DVD!!!!
