Let me start by saying, buy this DVD, if for no other reason than to have Leon Russell, Willie Nelson and Ray Charles' version of Leon's "A Song
For You"....it is a classic song, performed by three brilliant artists. Willie has tears in his eyes as Ray Charles sings the very moving lyrics..."and when my life is over, remember when we were together and I was singing this song for you". Ray died not too long after this performance and Willie seems to realize that this might be the last time Ray will be singing a song for him....powerful, powerful stuff.
Almost as good is "Crazy" by Diana Krall, Elvis Costello and Willie. Diana Krall gives it a bluesy feel that is very moving.
The performers universally seem to love Willie and enjoy the opportunity to perform with/ for him.
My only criticism of the DVD, is that it appears that most of the duets were not adequately rehearsed, because Willie and the other musicians often are looking at each other, as if to say "Do you want to sing this verse? or "Do you want to play lead here?" and as a result of the confusion, some lyrics are lost and the poor lighting director has a hard time following the action.
Bottomline it could have been better, but it is still a great compilation of Willie's songs, performed by Willie and many talented and varied artists.

When I purchased his video I didn't know what to expect but after watching with friends we really enjoyed what we say. Can't wait to purchase more music video after this positive experience.

A must for true fans of Willie! Recorded to celebrate his 70th birthday, it features a host of stars guesting with Willie, incl. Paul Simon,Kris Kristofferson,Kenny Chesney and too many others to mention here. My personal favourite is a tongue in cheek number with Toby Keith and Scotty Emerick called "I'll never smoke weed with Willie again, which Willie himself was obviously hearing for the first time.It's very funny! Also the bonus features are certainly worth mentioning especiall Willie's duet with Kris,Help me make it through the night. Wonderful, I'd recommend it

If there is one country legend who knows and performs with EVERYBODY, it's Willie Nelson. For his 70th birthday, his friends came out. It's true that because he has performed with everybody from rock, soul, blues, jazz, oldies, it doesn't mean he sings great with them. Clearly, there are times when Willie knows to remain silent.

I always love "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain", no matter who does it and it was beautiful by Shania Twain.

Sheryl Crow and Kris Kristofferson performed a duet on his popular "Me and Bobby McGree". Kristofferson should have only played along guitar; he was outsung by Crow, who did great.

Willie sang along with Paul Simon for "Homeward Bound" and this song was good for a duet. And Nelson doesn't do with with a strong voice of Steven Tyler, who did fantastic when he switched "One Time Too Many" from a ballad to a hard rockin' number!

This was a fabulous concert event! Great musical entertainers, fantastic music, and special birthday to their friend...Willie Nelson.......MzRizz

I agree, strange set list.......2005-11-21

Travis Tritt is a talented performer, no question. But after opening with a few rockin tunes, he goes into an hour of Travis Unplugged which has its moments. It ends with 2 more upbeat tunes, the finale a bit overly long only to be subdued by a break into Bible Belt (in case you didn't recognize it) which Tritt never sings. He just shakes hands and walks off the stage. Very odd. He sounds good, this DVD is FAR better than the horribly recorded MTV like concert footage. But unless you are a dieahard Tritt fan and enjoy being subdued for a while, I'm a little surprised by the set list, the only reason for my a little above average rating. In addition, the mix is bad. It's almost impossible to hear the keyboards and you lose a lot of the separation of the instruments. In addition, there's too much of a lovefest with Tritt and not enough shots of the band having fun, with the exception of needless shots on the side of the drummer when doing fills.

Travis Tritt is one of the best country artists of today. His voice sounds great on this DVD and the performance and picture quality is excellent. However, this DVD kind of leaves something to be desired. The main problem is the set list that Travis plays; I don't know about everyone else, but I wanted to see him rockin' on that stage. But he doesn't really start playing any rockin' songs until the last 3 or 4. So almost the whole concert is the slower softer songs, which are good, but I just don't think it's a good idea to play that many in a row. They kind of started to put me to sleep after awhile.
Don't mean to sound negative, I was just hoping to hear Travis rock much more than he did on this DVD.

Great country singer at his best........2005-04-09

Man where to start. I just bought this DVD at his concert I went to in Dothan, Alabama and let me tell you first about the concert I attended. Whoooooooo what a show. Travis Tritt had that Dothan Civic Center a kickin' and a screamin'. He did his show then when he left the stage everyone in there stayed and yelled for more and ole Travis didn't disappoint. He came back on and did 30 more minutes. Let me say if you ever have a chance to go to his show you better go because I am here to tell you that you will get your money's worth. And if you can't go to a live concert then buy this DVD because it is also great. It has 19 great songs. The DVD is an hour and a half. The show he did tonight was just a little over 2 hours so it would have been nice if the DVD was that long but none the less still a great DVD.

I have always liked most Travis cds but, here, I discover his full talent, INCREDIBLE ! If you want a fabulous country music concert buy this one.TOP LEVEL DVD ! The power of Travis voice is incredible, Travis has some key songs sung with his guitar only and you will discover then his incredible talent, I would have never believed any artist can sing alone like that creating such an emotion, such a strong feeling ! he plays and sings WITH HIS HEART AND DELIVERS A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE TO HIS AUDIENCE. to add to the dream, the band is perfect, the sound is perfect and so is the image captured that magic night.
NOW I have a problem, I will have to go back one day to US to see him perform live before I die...
Buy it while you can !

Best concert seen yet!!!!!.......2005-01-09

this is the best concert I've seen in a long time. I try to get all the country ones I can find and this one I have enjoyed more than I can put into words. I have watched it over and over since I bought it at Christmas. For anyone looking for a great country concert from a very talented artist this is it!! A MUST HAVE for all fans..... Looking for more from him.... Cant wait to find them all..... Enjoy!

As has been stated by another reviewer, the sound quality is lacking on this dvd. Whoever did the mastering made a poor attempt to ensure the sound and video were in-sync. DO NOT attempt to listen/watch this in 5.1 - it's maddening! At first I thought Rick WAS lip-synching! And the lack of audible crowd noise was disturbing. Listening to the stereo version helps with the audio-sync problems, but doesn't cure it completely. Unless you can overlook these serious problems, DON'T buy this, and DON'T pay full price!

DON'T GET TOO EXCITED.......2005-01-07

I, like many other R.S. fans, remember when this concert originally aired on Showtime, way back in 1982. The thought of being able to watch it again on DVD, remastered in 5.1 surround sound, had me dancing in my living room. I should have reserved my excitement until I actually saw the DVD. While the picture quality is comparable to VHS, disappointly, the sound was even worse!

Much like the DVD release of "Beat of the Live Drum", "Live and Kickin'" had the same problem of the words/music not matching up with the video...you'll see Rick singing a song, but you'll hear the words about 1/2 second before he opens his mouth, not a long amount of time, but more than enough to ruin this DVD concert.

I suppose it's good to have a durable DVD copy of this, but I'll stick to the VHS copy I made over 20 years ago. Perhaps the company that released this DVD didn't take the time to make sure the video and audio were in sync.

Also, the "bonus features" should have been called "Bogus features"! They include the backstage footage that was seen in the original broadcast of the concert and the pre-show footage, again, already seen on tv. A very disappointing DVD overall. We will have to wait until Rick actually releases the upcoming concert DVD, to be recorded live in Rockford. Il next month.

Until then, try and find a decent VHS copy of "Live and Kickin'".

I remember seeing this concert on Showtime every chance I got!! We didn't have a VCR then so I had to put it on an audio tape!! And I still have it!! Although personally I had a crush on the Bass player Mike Seifrit. And I was lucky enough to meet him 2 years later when rick played at "Alpine Valley" in East Troy, WI in September 1984, and then I also went to see him in New york at Radio City Music Hall later that month, and he remembered me!! I sure hope this dvd comes out before 2010!!!

Never thought I'd see the day.............2004-09-03

I caught this one when it was first broadcast on Showtime 327 years ago..and have only a 15th generation bootleg vhs dub to remember it by.I never,ever thought it would make it to DVD..being a long forgotten concert by an artist whom critics have always loved to hate,and who hasn't had anything in the top ten in more than a decade...This is a pleasant surprise indeed! His rabid and loyal fanbase will gobble this up in record time,So I won't preach to the choir....If you are a passive fan or just want to enjoy a great show from a great performer,dust off your parachute pants and pre-order this gem!...Now,if I could just score that KISS concert that HBO aired in '79.............

Best concert film from Rick!.......2004-07-28

I liked this one better then BOTLD.. He does not act to wild on stage, and he actually gets out there in the auduence and makes so girls swoon! We get to see "I Get Excited" as well as "April 24 1981" along with "Inside Silvia" just to name a few...

I am glad that someone is going to release this one to DVD... It has been a long time coming... New review to come soon...

Walter Trout-Live & Kickin'.......2000-03-26

Walter Trout is just great. This DVD shows just how much Walter Trout puts into a show. He just gives it his all. I can't say enough about his performance. This guy does it all. He writes, sings, and plays guitar with the best of them. Why he hasn't gotten more exposure is beyond me. He is just awesome. I've seen him live, and this DVD is a fine example of his talents. The only problem I have with the DVD is that the volume seems to fade just a little every once in a while. However, considering the cost(cheap)of the DVD, I HIGHLY recommend this Walter Trout DVD. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Buy it, you'll like it.

I can't understand why this guy isn't a blues deity at this point...I saw him open for a much more famous player recently and Walter BLEW HIM OFF THE STAGE...and if you see this DVD you will know why...I can't imagine ANYBODY (living) matching his intensity and talent..and this DVD isa solid collection of his recent material..If you like SRV , Luther Allison, Albert Collins..then you need to check out Walter Trout..he is not Jonny Lang nor Kenny Wayne Shepard..this guy writes , plays AND sings with five star ratings in all three areas...and besides this DVD is almost FREE it is so darn cheap! WHAT are you waiting for?

What a Concert! Best seat in the house!.......2006-07-07

If you like Mr. Big then this concert DVD is a must! I have watched this DVD several times and it is like being at the concert and having the best seat in the house! Billy is as insane as ever, but Paul Gilbert is just amazing. I like to watch concert films while on a treadmill and this DVD seems to be on a regular monthly rotation since I bought it 6 months ago! It's just a great show!
