Veteran Little Feat fans familiar with the band's live shows in the '70s will notice some missteps in the performance captured on this 1977 German television broadcast. Its sound betrays the original monaural mix and notable concert PA system glitches, and the video coverage likewise suffers from lapses in focus, color saturation from the stage lights, and questionable camera choices. Why on earth would we recommend it? Because even a flawed Feat show captures one of that decade's most mesmerizing live groups, and the set in question offers the first comprehensive visual record of that prowess.
In an era noteworthy for live rock's vaunted arena ambitions, including the substitution of elaborate production effects and musical bombast for musicianship, Little Feat were riveting exceptions, a supple and accomplished sextet that made their often intricate and subtle music sound deceptively simple and accessible. Mating gutbucket blues, country flourishes, and New Orleans second-line syncopations to colorful (and sometimes surrealistic) songs, this true Hollywood band was often mistaken for a Southern boogie outfit. And, in original leader and principal songwriter Lowell George, Feat had a funny, feisty front man whose striking electric slide guitar playing would influence dozens of other musicians.
By the time of this live broadcast from Essen, Germany, George had stepped back to allow a more democratic arrangement, and virtuoso keyboard player Bill Payne and second guitarist Paul Barrere were taking over much of the writing. A shared group style, noteworthy for slippery time signatures, sneaky jazz harmonies, and a nifty mix of street smarts and poeticism, had coalesced in their repertoire, here echoing their brilliant live album, Waiting for Columbus.

Bonamassa Live - It Rocks!.......2007-07-03
Great DVD by a Great Blues Rock Guitarist/Singer! Enjoy! One of the BEST in this genre. A must-have for blues rock fans.
chops!.......2007-06-26
Joe B. has monster chops, especially for a blues rocker, in the tradition of Gary Moore and...gee, no one else I can think of from that genre! This DVD showcases Joe's tremendous talent with a six-string, and his powerful, gritty voice. The band is tight and the concert, set in a very intimate club, is cleverly and crisply captured on film. It feels like you're there! Players will enjoy plenty of close-ups of Joe's lightning-fast fretwork. While the blues standards are beautifully rendered, the big surprise comes when Joe infuses some prog-rock: very engaging arrangements of Yes's Heart of the Sunrise and Starship Troopers. Where'd that come from, Joe? Well worth the price, and you'll want to watch it more than once.
Awesome!.......2007-05-07
This is one of the best videos I have ever see. I just wish the director had stayed on Joe's hands a little more and not did the "NYPD Blue" style panning and rapid scene changes so much. The audio is awesome. This was Joe's old band and they were as tight as any power trio could possibly be.
The BEST Live Concert DVD!.......2007-04-22
This should be the FIRST concert DVD in anyone's collection as far as I'm concerned. The audio and video work it the best of any concert I've collected on DVD...and there are many. I do want to clarify one thing for people who may not be too familiar with Joe B's playing.....yes, he does play the blues BUT...calling him a blues guitarist is a bit misleading. He's more of a rock guy than people give him credit for...with his influences being Cream-era Clapton, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons etc. All these guys also delved into the blues realm but they're truly rock guitarists...just as Joe is. This ISN'T a Stevie Ray Vaughn type of concert...all blues shuffles and 12-bar ballads. What you get here are great rock tones on several different guitars with the solid backing of Kenny Kramme (drums) and Eric Czar(bass).
My favorite DVD in my collection by far.
Must See Show.......2007-03-31
This DVD gave me a new view and greater respect for the blues.

This should NOT have been released for public-purchase.......2007-02-12
While on his tour of Europe, Harry Chapin and his band made a stop at the German venue, Rockpalast, and taped a concert in-front of a live audience. Maybe Harry and the band were given lousy sound-equipment to work with. Maybe it was the fact that Harry and his band were tired (as is implied by Harry during the concert) and only did it because Chapin's manager (or his label at the time, Elektra Records) saw a last-minute opportunity for publicity and/or promotion, and took it.
Whatever the reason, the fact remains that this is a poor Harry Chapin concert, which is why I give it 3 stars. And yet, I do not give it a lesser-rating because Harry strives to give it his all to an audience where few, in any, understand even an inkling of the English language. Harry's determination pays-off in the end, for, in the second-half of the concert, many in the audience have warmed-up to Harry and his music, which goes to show you that good music it not confined to a specific language or country.
Still, Harry's personal charisma aside, I still believe that the poor-quality of this DVD gives me reason to say that unless you're a hardcore Chapin-fan, don't bother purchasing this concert. Trust me, there are other televised Chapin concerts available for purchase which are far-better than this.
It's about Harry.............2006-11-16
I delayed buying this too long due to the mixed reviews here. You only have to ask yourself one question ? Am I a Harry fan ? If you are, then you should buy this DVD. It's not about the sound quality, or the German crowd. It's about the connection, the love, we as fans have for Harry. It's a great chance to see him again in one of the few concert videos he left behind. Set some time aside to watch...and remember...
Harry's Tried.......2006-05-14
I am one of those who was lucky enough to see several Chapin concerts. I saw two with only Harry and his guitar and one with the whole band. This dvd isn't high def or the best sound, but, it shows you how wonderful he was. Harry gave all of himself to every audience and I never attended another concert like it again. The audience on this one obviously couldn't understand
English and it must have made it hard on Harry, who loved audience participation.
Find "The Final Concert" on either vhs or dvd, if it's still out there. That one was filmed in America and really shows the whole band's power. Tom is one that one.
This concert is very subdued, but, then we can't be picky. If you loved Harry Chapin, you will be glad for the chance to see him in again.
Translates as "boring".......2005-01-17
I don't think there's ever been a performer who did as engaging a "live" show as Harry Chapin. This is the reason I immediately grabbed the DVD off the shelf at Virgin Records when I saw it. However, Harry's rapport with his audiences generally came from a mutual understanding; Harry understanding people and their dramas, heartaches, humor and happiness and the Audience understanding the words that came out of Harry's mouth. The German audience at this Rockpalast concert clearly did not understand Harry. I'm not suggesting that they didn't "get" him; they did not understand the English language, which is what Harry was speaking. When you take away the audience interplay, you're left with little more than a live performance of some of Harry's best songs. However, the audio and video quality is so poor that it's unbearable to sit through this concert. I'm sure Harry would support my recommendation that you support your local public television station (PBS) which offers a fantastic concert video of Harry performing in Hamilton, Ontario. The PBS concert has infinitely better audio/video quality and, most importantly, an English-speaking audience who love and appreciate Harry's music as well as his wit. Too bad Virgin won't let me return opened and viewed DVD's; Rockpalast would go back! Get the PBS video and buy the Bottom Line collection's two-disc set of Harry's performances at the legendary Greenwich Village cabaret.
Yes, the video quality is bad but Harry still sounds great.......2004-06-10
This Harry Chapin concern was taped in Germany on April 12, 1977 as an episode of the German television music show "Rockpalast Live," shortly after the release of the double-album "Dance Band on the Titanic." That accounts for both the poor quality of the video and the selection of these particular fourteen songs:
"Shooting Star"
"W.O.L.D."
"Mr. Tanner"
"Dance Band on the Titanic"
"Taxi"
"Six String Orchestra"
"Corey's Coming"
"Blues Man"
"Mail Order Annie"
"30,000 Pounds of Bananas"
"Cat's in the Cradle"
"Circle"
"Odd Man Job"
"I Wanna Learn a Love Song"
Actually only a couple of songs come from the "Dance Band on the Titanic" album, with five of the songs coming from the "Verities and Balderdash" album three from "Short Stories." Of course Chapin plays his most recognizable "hits," which are the few songs of his that got a lot of A.M. radio air play: "W.O.L.D.," "Taxi," and "Cat's in the Cradle." But long time fans will appreciate the chance to hear big John Wallace help out on "Mr. Tanner" and Harry's bittersweet love songs like "Mail Order Annie." The gem this time around would be the almost nine minute version of "Corey's Coming." The band consists of Chapin on acoustic guitar (and wearing a yellow shirt), Wallace on bass, brother Steve Chapin on keyboards, Doug Walker playing electric guitar, Howie Fields on drums, and Kim Scholes playing the cello. Of course everybody gets to join in on the fun with the sing along "Circle."
There is another Chapin concert out there, a PBS "Soundstage" concert released as "The Book of Chapin," but for Harry's fans any opportunity to see him perform again is worth the having. Even the strangeness of the German audience, who obviously have not already taken this music to heart, works because Harry makes a big effort to connect with them (but avoids doing the alternative endings on "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" because this audience is probably not going to get the jokes). But even if the video quality is suspect at times the audio is pretty good and that is what matters the most.
Harry was posthumously rewarded the Gold Medal of Freedom by Congress for his work fighting hunger in this country. He was something special and I still remembering hearing about the big LA radio station that played his song "What Made America Famous?" every hour during the 4th of July weekend the year I graduated high school. It is impossible to listen to any of his songs and not mourn the tragic accident that took him from us way too soon and to wonder about the dozen albums he would have put out between then and now and all the great songs we missed out on hearing. But we do have his excellent body of story songs and a few concert vidoes to remind us how great Harry was in concert.

Frankly, I was underwhelmed:.......2006-07-04
Many reviewers of Little Feat video products have lauded this as the best Feat video on the market. So, if only by process of elimination, I'd have to agree. But that ain't saying much. Just click over to my review of Little Feat's "High Wire Act" DVD and you'll see what I mean.
Compared to what Little Feat accomplished in the post Lowell George era, I think this performance at "Rockpalast" (German for Rock Palace) is somewhat sub par..... So string me up, burn me at the stake and send me to a vivisectionist for blasphemy. But, the video resolution is so deplorable at times that you hardly see what you're watching. The sound mix and quality are equally stinky.....
For example, I love Richey Hayward. he is Little Feat's answer to Keith Moon. His "all over the kit ...lead drumming" style always fits the songs perfectly.... And Richey's ability to simultaneously sing the "high 5" harmony part is nothing short of the miraculous. But the audio has him mixed three times louder than the lead vocal... You can barely hear Lowell George sing at all. That's just "sound man stupidity". In addition, Lowell's guitar is equally as absent in the mix.... The sound people should be sent to prison for effing up the only real "Lowell George era" Feat video we have.... Bummer eh?
Besides that, I believe the band had serious chemistry problems in those years, both personal and pharmacological... It made for a less than acceptable product....
If you want the best Little Feat concert available anywhere... It's from Feat's Craig Fuller era. Call PBS and Terry Likona at Austin City Limits and DEMAND that they release the Little Feat concert that they have on file. This performance is so clean, you (personally) could lick any portion of it without fear of septic contamination.
But as for this "Rockpalast" concert, I'm giving this 3 stars because it's the only thing on video featuring Lowell George and Little Feat.... No..... in fact, I just changed my mind... 2 stars and that's it.... The music was probably OK, but who knows....?...you can't really hear much of it... It's Little Feat successfully concealed behind a wall of musical mush.
True, average music fans wouldn't know good sound if it ran them down in the street.... fans simply have tin ears. This fact is substantiated by the popularity of no talent morons like Madonna and Justin (frickin') Timberlake. Hell, If "Micah" Jackson walked onstage and threw up... the fans would fall weeping at his feet in undying admiration... Fans just don't know any better.
Having said that... if you're thinking of buying the DVD version of this concert for $200...... think again, friend.

Classic Feat with Lowell.......2005-12-15
I can't even remember if I bought this through Amazon , but as soon as I saw that it was for sale ( maybe 5 years ago ?? )I bought it and have enjoyed it very much...I saw the band probably 6 months after this show and rank it as the best live show I have ever seen...yea ok the sound and video are from the 70's , but hey who cares ??? IT'S CLASSIC FEAT WITH LOWELL !!!!...if I could give it 10 stars I would...Hey I will anyway - 10 STARS -
The song selection is top notch , Lowell's slide guitar work is absolutely fantastic,Richtie's drumming is the best,Bill's work on the keyboards is A1,I have always loved Paul's guitar playing and this DVD is no exception....This band is the greatest band that noone has ever heard of !!!!...buy it !! enjoy it !!!
Little Feat: Rockpalast Live - Great timepiece........2005-08-17
This DVD shows a great band on a great night. The clothes, the songs, and the production are very 70's, but that's what you want when you're hearing Little Feat. It's a good one!
The gem is from Pinkpop, folks!.......2004-02-17
A fantastic dvd! for me the first actual footage showing Lowell George and the other instrument voodoo wizards in a state of, perhaps, jet-lag? Rockpalast was the prime rock program at that time. On this DVD, the sound is awful, the performance is about 60% of Waiting for Columbus, and still the concert is magic to me. And I agree with other reviewers, the absolute gem is the bonus "Cold, Cold, Cold", good sound, well played, and a far better quality (I 'm not saying this simply because I'm Dutch) then the Rockpalast concert. Lowell's voice is record quality. They all seem much more concentrated. Although no one, not even Bill Payne and Paul Barrere seems to have clue, I can see from everything that it's not a German concert, but a Dutch, recorded at the Pinkpop festival on June 7, 1976. Other acts at that festival, visited by 40,000 fans, were the Jess Roden Band, Streetwalkers, Outlaws, Chieftains, and Uriah Heep. Pinkpop was broadcasted live on Dutch television, so more footage should be somewhere! Anyway, a must have for everyone who loves Little Feat.
Poor lighting!.......2003-10-07
I've got the DVD and compared to the 20 other concert DVD's I own this one has the WORST film quality, but hey where else are you going to see Lowell live?

If you're part of the extremely small coterie of fans who still remember Alvin Lee and his monotonous heavy-blues band, Ten Years After, then the appeal of this concert video needs no explanation. If, however, you're either too young to remember Lee (whose charismatic turn in the Woodstock film made him more of a star than his derivative music ever would have), or you are old enough to remember him but couldn't care less what he's been up to, the lure of this tape may be somewhat more obscure. Lee (looking distinctly chunkier and more wasted than in his youth) was a rock-blues guitarist-singer whose main claim to fame was a speedy set of fingers (not to be confused with actually being a great guitarist). He's joined here by an undistinguished bassist and drummer for an hour of retrograde blues bashing, featuring his trademark scat singing and interpolation of better songs into his own hackneyed tunes. Filmed at a club in Germany, this is a video that seemingly pinpoints where music from the late 1960s went to die. --Marshall Fine
Description
One of rock's most explosive and innovative guitarists, Alvin Lee, set the music scene alight as founding member of the seminal band, Ten Years After. This special edition of Rockpalast spotlights the artist's new project, Alvin Lee's Ten Years Later providing indisputable evidence that the talented axesmith is still capable of delivering spellbinding fretboard mastery that routinely leaves audience members in awe-struck admiration. Song list: Ain't Nothing Shaking, Gonna Turn You On, Help Me, Hey Joe, Choo Choo Mama, I'm Going Home
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant guitarist, okay DVD.......2007-03-05
I think amazon.com needs to find a new home for Marshall Fine because he certainly doesn't understand great musicianship.(Actually, he understands less than that - this was not filmed at a club in Germany, it was filmed at a German TV studio.) Alvin Lee and Ten Years After were hardly a monotonous heavy blues band. They were an innovative jazz/rock/blues band with one of the best guitarists playing then - and playing now. Proof of that merely needs to be in the number and quality of guitarists playing today who cite Lee as one of their inspirations. This 1978 concert was as high- energy and musically satisfying as fans of this guitarist have come to expect. That said, there is one thing wrong with this DVD -and only one thing - the quality is lousy. So lousy that Mr. Lee is said to have NOT given permission for its release.
Alvin Lee's Ten Years Later - Rockpalast Live DVD.......2006-12-24
This Is so Great! Alvin & Co Shred from start to Finish! Do not Hesitate Just Buy It, you'll Agree. I wouldve Rated it a 5 But if a show from 69 or 70 ever becomes available and is Professionaly done Im certian I'd give that a 5 cause TYA Smoked then.

Great band!.......2006-04-06
What an amazing band. One of the best ever. I wanna say that I am ONCE AGAIN (this is like the 80th time) SHOCKED AND ANNOYED by the amazing incompetence shown by Amazon.com's official reviews. Why do they pay pathetic idiotic slobs to write reviews for them? Sheesh.
Save Your Money.......2006-02-28
I was very very disappointed with this video. It was all chopped up and what the hell happened to Choo Choo MaMa? I don't think it was 30 seconds long. I guess you really excpect alot from a great guitarist and band. I don't understand why they would put something like this out. Save your money, stick with the CD's.
Marshall Fine Should Be Fired.......2005-12-15
Who is this dude, Marshall Fine? He's probably a Barry Manilow, John Denver, or Brittany Spears fan. Please pay no attention to the man behind the Amazon curtain. Alvin Lee rocks! With all the crap out there, it's so refreshing to find someone with true soul and emotion. Who cares if he's a few years older than his Woodstock appearance - the intensity is still there. Buy this video and you won't regret it (unless you happen to be musically retarded like Marshall Fine). Marshall, I pity you.

Description
At sixty-five years old, and with more than 50 years in the music biz, Chris Farlowe still has one of the most remarkable voices in the blues and rock universe. Evidence of this can be found on this recording for the famous Rockpalast in Bonn, Germany on March 22nd, 2006. As one time member of the Thunderbirds, Colosseum and many other popular bands, critics, audiences and other musicians reverentially refer to him as the Voice. He tours incessantly (over 100 concerts every year) either with his own band, featured here on this DVD, Colosseum or as a guest of Van Morrison. Bonus Backstage Interview, "Chris Farlowe on Chris Farlowe", and Photo Gallery included.

Like Bruce Hornsby himself, this concert DVD is a no-frills event, focusing entirely on the music that Hornsby composes and plays with virtuoso flair. Recorded for German television on October 16, 1990, this performance finds Hornsby at the peak of his popularity, poised at a Baldwin grand piano with his sleeves rolled up, and kicking immediately into a full-blooded rendition of "Night on the Town" that sets the tone for a vibrant 90-minute set. There's nothing dazzling about the four-camera video coverage, and the sound quality is merely adequate, so you're not missing much if your attention roams from the screen. But Hornsby (also on accordion for a few songs) is as impressive as ever, from his biggest hit ("The Way It Is") to lesser-known songs ("The Show Goes On") that are equally good. Consider this a live CD with minimalist visuals, but for devoted fans it's a welcome addition to Hornsby's other recordings. --Jeff Shannon
Description
A multidimensional triple threat, talented singer, songwriter and keyboardist, Bruce Hornsby triumphantly emerged onto the music scene in the mid-Eighties with such memorable hits as "The Way It Is," "Mandolin Rain" and "Jacob's Ladder." Renowned for his impeccable musical skills, Hornsby's elegant keyboard flourishes and sophisticated and literate wordplay helped make him into a superstar. Now viewers can catch a glimpse of the dynamic Williamsburg, Virginia native in action on the concert stage in this exclusive live Rockpalast performance from 1990.

Bruce Hornsby & the Range- Rockpalast Live.......2006-01-15
Excellent Bruce Hornsby as always at the top of his craft
Bruce's account of this show..........2003-03-27
I was lucky to chat with Bruce about this show. It was filmed for German TV, and he said that the band before his (I don't recall who) just put the crowd into a bored stupor. You can even see it in their faces as the shows starts.
By the time Bruce and co took to the stage, this crowd had already been on their feet for hours, and so he saw it as something of a challenge to get them going again. They deliberately started with an up tempo Night on the Town, and pretty much maintained that pace throughout.
The picture quality (it's very dark in there) and some surreal camera angles take away from the DVD slightly, but you wouldn't expect that to detract from the music. It doesn't.
Now can we have something more recent?!?
Average sound and vision, peerless performer........2001-09-27
There is no question that the sound and vision on this DVD release is below average. "Two Against Nature" it ain't. However, if, like me, you regard Bruce Hornsby as one of the finest composers and performers in any idiom of the past 25 years, you will enjoy this DVD for what it is: a record of a great band at the peak of its powers. The concert was recorded in Koln, Germany sometime after the release of "A Night on the Town". The majority of the songs are taken from that recording. Koln, of course, was the setting for a famous Keith Jarrett release on ECM. Horsnby dedicates "Another Day" to Leon Russell. And that about sums things up: a cross between "Leon Live" and "The Sun Bear Concerts", with a dash of bluegrass and country for good measure. Forget the audio quality (which is tolerable rather than execrable) and enjoy 90 minutes of superb music, beautifully crafted and flawlessly played.
horrible quality.......2001-09-03
I can't believe they released this on DVD. I bought it at a local store, and luckily was able to return it.
The only person who would really like this is a HardCore Hornsby fan who is obsessed and needs to own everything he/she can that is Hornsby related.
Mainly, it's the sound quality. There are times where it actually fades out, like you're listening to an old beat up cassette that is on it's last legs.
The picture quality isn't any better. It was very poorly filmed and recorded.
Musically, it is a decent performance for the most part, although early in the group's history. I've heard them play much better. Maybe I was just too distracted by the quality to really enjoy it.
I'm sorry.
What ever happened to Bruce Hornsby?.......2001-07-31
After reviewing this DVD, I asked myself, what happened to Bruce Hornsby? The music here sounds as good now as they did a decade ago. The music is great, but the picture quality is merely a good VHS type quality while the sound is simply good, but not reference quality. However, don't let me deter you from purchasing this DVD. It is essential listening because after the first song, Bruce is on a roll playing his most popular compositions back to back. Its only missing the deeper most bass quality of the more recent concert DVDs. Hornsby is a great artist and it shows here. The guitarist is quite good, however, he, Bruce and the other musicians need to be more loose in their performing. They play, along with the back ground vocalists, rather stiff. This is great music though, and I like it better than Don Henley and the Eagles. Now if only one can convince Bruce Hornsby to make more music. He is certainly one of the great artist of our time, and we need to hear more from him. I've been playing this DVD repeatedly. Thats just how good the music is on this disc. Amazon indicated I would give this disc a 5 star rating. How right they are. If you like the Eagles or Don Henly, you'll love this concert. Bruce even got an encore, and a well deserved one.

Customer Reviews:
UB40 Rockplast 1982.......2006-05-15
I found this a wonderful experience, to see this almost unknown band playing music with so much enthusiastic energy. It has a raw feel and gives an excellent portrayal of those early days including distortion and a request for more support from the mostly lifeless audience. An almost complete opposite of recent concerts where the audience are enthusiastic and the band just stands around.
UB 40 LIVE.........2002-03-22
This was my first Rockpalast DVD, and i was very dissapointed with the dvd, i will be holding back from buying further Rockpalast DVD'S in future, I was expecting something better from UB 40 but it was filmed in there early days(1982)...but even the hit one in ten was a very sad sight for sore eyes...
what more can one say...my advice is stay clear of this DVD...
early ub40..at their best..........2001-12-17
nice to find some footage of them in their early days...would of given it 5 stars just for that...BUT the only let down is the sound quality at times...but still very very good and worth the money.. :o) wish there was more of it....
Super UB40 live.......2001-08-17
This is A master Concert early UB40 at their best great footage by Rockpalast..release the other one i say Rossy
UB40 at it's beggining.......2000-12-14
In this DVD you can see UB40 in one of their first concerts. Here are songs from their 3 first albums, classic songs like Folitician, One in Ten, King, Tyler, etc.
If you are a true fan of UB40, you should buy it, but if you are seeking for songs like Red Red Wine or Kingston Town, you'll be dissapointed.

As a frontman, Huey Lewis has always let the band's music speak for itself. It's no surprise, then, that nearly all of the songs in this live concert from Grugahalle in Essen, Germany, are straight-off-the-album arrangements with very little monologue in between. The sound quality is only average, but the performance is vintage Huey Lewis & the News: straightforward, energetic, and tight. The highlight of the set is a blistering version of "Workin' for a Livin'," featuring Huey on harmonica and guitarist Chris Hayes. The first encore includes "Buzz, Buzz, Buzz," featuring both Johnny Colla and Huey on saxophones. The second encore features a long harmonica solo by H.L. followed by an early, up-tempo version of "Bad Is Bad," which later appeared on the album Fore.
This video is from a German television broadcast that aired on October 13, 1984, right around the time that the Sports album was released. In order to fully capture a live performance, it is necessary to put mics on the audience so the viewer can hear their reaction. Unfortunately, that is missing here. Also, the audience clips look like stock footage of German teenagers thrash-bobbing their heads and gesturing at the camera, seemingly detached from the performance on stage. This makes the whole concert video seem a bit contrived. But all in all, it's a good performance with a nice selection of tunes. It sure brings back a lot of memories. --David Martins

Customer Reviews:
Not bad, but not LIVE AT 25.......2007-03-20
It was okay. Live at 25 has better sound, better audio...and Huey has a better voice now.
HUEY LEWIS MUST HAVE.......2003-08-04
HUEY LEWIS IS SO COOL. THIS SHOW HAS ALL HIS BIG HITS AND SOUNDS GOOD: NEED I SAY MORE?
Harmonica Lovers.....you'll love this one.......2002-03-14
I saw Huey Lewis and the News in Seattle, right around the time this concert was filmed. I loved his concert. The music will get your heartbeat going strong (opening song..Heart of Rock n Roll).
The video quality is quite good on this dvd, the sound is good, but not like concerts recorded in this era. Huey plays an excellent harmonica for quite a bit in a few songs. He's fun to watch on stage, in the prime of his life, and the band is flawless. Camera angles and shots on stage were done well.
If you enjoy Huey Lewis and the News, this is a must for your collection.
Essential for a HLN fan..........2001-08-04
.. but a few disappointments. First the video quality is sub par for a DVD in my opinion. Second, the video is marred by terrible-looking titles displayed for several seconds on each song--wouldn't have minded it if they were smaller and in a better font. Also Huey's singing on "Heart and Soul" at the beginning is drowned out for some reason. All of this is probably due to the original broadcast and couldn't be helped, but I just couldn't give it 5 stars. That being said there are numerous good points: Huey's harp solo, a short drum solo before "Workin for a Living", an uptempo version of "Bad is Bad" (different than the version on Sports), good camera work, and good audio quality (aside from "Heart and Soul"). Definately an essential for a Huey Lewis and the News fan!
News On Stage.......2001-04-27
Huey Lewis & The News are basically a bar band made good. They made some tremendous albums, but it is their live shows that show the full power of the band. This is a live show from 1984 when the band was on the verge of breaking out big time. The show is a great collection of tunes from Picture This & Sports and they put on an energetic and lively performance. The band avoids any type of stage show and sticks to what they do best, straight-ahead music that mixes rock, pop and r&b. Standout performances include "Change Of Heart", "Heart & Soul", an acapella version of The Impressions "It's Alright", "Do You Believe In Love", a hard rocking and manic "Working For A Livin'" and a funky "Buzz Buzz Buzz". Mr. Lewis shows off his harmonica skills on an extended solo that merges into the show closing "Bad Is Bad". It is a real treat for any News fan to see the band in their young and aggressive days and this DVD is a must for any fan of the band.
