Despite all the pot-smoking in Idle Hands, the message here seems to be that too many bong hits will take you on a one-way trip to the devil's playground. That's what happens to Anton (Devon Sawa), a wasted teen who's so perpetually zonked on weed that he doesn't notice his parents have been slaughtered by an evil force that then possesses Anton's right hand, taking on a wildly homicidal life of its own after Anton chops it off with a butcher knife. The first victims are Anton's pals Mick (teen-movie stalwart Seth Green), who gets a beer bottle embedded in his skull, and Pnub (Elden Henson), whose head is lopped off by a rotary saw blade, and later reattached with a barbecue fork and duct tape. (Did we mention that Mick and Pnub turn into undead jokesters? It's that kind of movie.) This unoriginal idea is little more than an excuse for gross-out effects and easy one-liners, and then Vivica A. Fox appears as the demon-buster who knows how to kill the hand once and for all. It's fun to a point, and certain to be a popular Halloween hit with its intended teenage audience, but you can't help wishing this movie had tried harder to be something more than a collection of crude and gory gags. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!.......2007-05-13

Shipping came fast, good quality. I'm not a big fan of Jessica Alba her acting sucks but she's not bad on the eyes so i can see why they would throw her in for the guys in the audience. But the other cast members totally rocked! It was fun, different, and a perfect movie to watch with the friends. Despite the bad reviews on this movie its a good movie.

4 out of 5 stars Be careful, man, some of 'em are guys.......2007-03-31

IDLE HANDS is a movie that I remember always being on the USA Network when I was really young, and I remember it was a sick movie. It still is, but now older (but not wiser), I see this movie for how it should be seen: a twisted little gem that turns the Dawson's Creek world inside out. Yes, SCREAM did it too, but for some reason, the way IDLE HANDS shows us a guy that loves the girl next door and has two dumb buddies like every bad teen movie ever makes the fact that the movie is about a stoner that kills his parents and best friends (who come back as freaking zombies) with his possessed right hand (hi, Ash) so much sweeter. Yes, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but this movie really is underrated in my opinion. It has great music (especially The Offspring's version of The Ramones' I WANNA BE SEDATED), a clever script, great performances (especially by Seth Green & Elden Henson as the zombified buddies Mick and Pnub, who didn't walk up the stairway to Heaven because "it was too far"), and sly direction by Rodman Flender, who has done TALES FROM THE CRYPT episodes, which at times this movie shares its tone with. Overall, IDLE HANDS is great for horror fans that like their horror with a wink and a nod, and it even throws in some unnecessary nudity, just like the good ol' days.

5 out of 5 stars For camp fans only.......2007-01-28

The problem with this movie and its poor reviews is tat it's being reviewed by the wrong people. This movie is absolutely not for people who watch the Academy Awards or go to arthouse film festivals. This movie is sleazy, campy and cheesy.

It's a hybrid of the classic stoner comedy and the slasher flick genres. Think Dude, Where's My Car? meets Evil Dead. The plot is expendable, but the the dialogue is well written for the characters and the humor is funny more often than not.

In addition to the humor, there is some good blood effects. Really, this is a well executed horror/comedy. If you're under the age of 25 and appreciate camp, this film is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Do you have a sense of humor???.......2006-06-23

This movie was funny! If your looking for deep meaningful content, watch something from the drama section. A classic B movie has a thin plot, unrealistic villians, lots of gore, cheap sex and is meant to be watched while drinking beer. This movie is all of the above and more. If you are going to be tormented by the souls of the undead, Seth Green and his pal are the ones you would want because at least they would bring chips and a cooler of beer. Because, "Hey, your dead for a long time!"

5 out of 5 stars Great .......2006-04-10

Amazon, even though it could be expensive sometimes, it is worth it. Also, the delivery is very fast.

If you've ever indulged a rock & roll fantasy, Rock Star will give you the vicarious thrill of seeing that fantasy come to life. That's what happens when talented tribute-band singer Chris Cole (Mark Wahlberg) is tapped to replace his idol as frontman for 1980s metal gods Steel Dragon. Chris becomes the groupie-laden "Izzy," his manager girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston) grows weary of sex 'n' drugs on tour, and Rock Star plays out its utterly conventional plot line. Despite the casting of real rockers to support Wahlberg's underrated performance (nicely matched by Aniston and Timothy Spall as Steel Dragon's road manager), his character is too rigidly written to follow an obligatory rise and fall, and even its basis in fact (inspired by Tim "Ripper" Owens's recruitment into Judas Priest) can't conceal the movie's predictable formula. As a cautionary tale it's routine, but as a leather-pants love story, Rock Star's got enough good karma to keep its dream alive. --Jeff Shannon

Product Description

Chris Cole (MARK WAHLBERG) was born to rock. His longtime girlfriend Emily (JENNIFER ANISTON) believes Chris's talent could take him all the way - but instead of writing his own music, Chris worships at the altar of Bobby Beers, the fiery frontman for Steel Dragon, the heavy metal rock legends that both inspire and consume his life. By day, Chris still lives at home with his parents and spends his days repairing copy machines, push-starting his sputtering Dodge Dart and fighting with his brother. But when Chris takes the stage, all of that disappears. When he's fronting Blood Pollution, Pennsylvania's premiere Steel Dragon tribute band, Chris Cole is Bobby Beers - mesmerizing audiences with his perfect imitation of Beers' electrifying vocals and sexy snarl. Blood Pollution's low-rent recreation of the Dragon's elaborate arena shows drive the locals (including Chris's loving parents and amused choir director) into a head-banging, hair-whipping frenzy. The night his bandmates boot him out of the group he founded, Chris is devastated - until an unexpected phone call changes his life forever: he, Chris Cole, has been tapped to replace Bobby Beers as the lead singer of Steel Dragon. In an instant, Chris rockets to the dizzying heights of sudden stardom, rising from devotee to icon, from the ultimate rock fan to the ultimate rock god - the wanna-be who got to be. So what happens when an average guy gets everything he wants... and discovers it's not enough?

4 out of 5 stars Rock on! .......2007-05-09

I had a good time watching this movie. It's entertaining and one that you can watch more than once and still enjoy. Rock Star also had a great cast to help keep both the action and the melodrama on an even keel.

5 out of 5 stars love the rock and roll music.......2007-03-18

the movie proves that everyone has a dream, and some day it will bw achieved thru hard work.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Rock Movie for the Hair Era.......2007-02-16

This at least glosses over many elements of rock stardom and in some instances, the acting and situations are pulled off very well. The hero worship, incredible fan dedication, sex, drugs, sex, alcohol, sex, heartbreak, band breakups, life on the road, sex, drugs, hair, leather, backstage passes (which lead to more sex and drugs) are covered pretty well. Fun flick!

3 out of 5 stars AWESOME 80'S MOVIE TRIBUTE!! but kind of touching!!!!.......2006-11-30

I though that this movie would be cool as Detroit Rock City or Dazed and Confused but is not! Rock Star is not exacly a "rock movie tribute for the past deacades" like Detroit Rock City, this is more like a dramatic story of a rocker fan in the 80's.

But DON'T GET ME WRONG! this movie is COOL!! The main character in the story hang out with the band, gettin wasted, going with groupies, lisening to rock, flashing devil horn signs and teaching his little bother how to be a HEAVY METAL FAN!

The Cons are: Most of the soundtracks were not taken from true 80's rock bands, they were made by this fictional band with fictional songs called Dragon Steel. The movie have some touching moments that spoil the fun, there were no comments about 80's rock bands, the movie wasn't that funny and the ending was kind of predictable.

P.S: Is worth buying it, but if you are looking for cool funny rocking movies of past decades then this is not for you.

ADIOS.

4 out of 5 stars "Gimme blood Pollutions"...this movie will make metal heads "Stand up and Shout".......2006-10-28

This movie was a suprise when it came out, not highly publisized, but a good cast in Jennifer Aniston and Mark Wahlberg. This takes place in the mid/late 1980's where Wahlberg plays a early 20's frontman to a tribute band to "steel dragons", a 70's super-metal group with erie similarities to Judas Priest, although the creators deny any tie ins. He lives at home with his parents still and is trying to "make it big" on someone elses music, and they do a good job. Low and behold he is handed the dream of a lifetime when Steel Dragon decides to get rid of their legendary frontman and starts a search for his replacement...which ends at Wahlbergs door. From here we follow his character, now known as "Izzy" to his public through through his Dream. No real suprises in this movie as far a story line (especially if you know the Judas priest story), and no acadamy awards for acting, but some good humor and Entertaining, with a Killer soundtrack. Steel Dragons is made up of, and played in the movie by, real life rock stars Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne,Black Label society), Jason Bohnam (son of Jon Bohnam of Zepplin, and Bohnam), Jeff Pilson (Dokken), Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmstein group), Nick Catonese (Black label society), Mike Matijevic (steelheart). Just an overall good movie, great music, and entertaining, especially if you are in to metal. Check it out.

Spinal Tap it ain't, but Michael Lehmann's good-natured comedy of errors, about a garage band whose unannounced visit to a local radio station escalates into a hostage situation, is pleasant diversion with a fair share of laughs. Brendan Fraser plays the singer-songwriter of the unknown heavy metal band the Lone Rangers, a trio of socially challenged musicians rounded out by dimwitted but sweet bass player Adam Sandler and aging drummer/toy-store employee Steve Buscemi--who just happens to be packing a lifelike toy machine gun from work. Needless to say, the friendly visit is misinterpreted as a hostile takeover, but all the Lone Rangers want is to play their music on the air--and they sabotage themselves again by destroying their own demo tape! Joe Mantegna plays a burned-out deejay who tries to help the muddled metalheads as the media surrounds the building and asks the question on everyone's lips: "How can you be the Lone Rangers if you're always together?" --Sean Axmaker

Description

In this hilarious spoof of the music industry, three intelligence-challenged rock'n' rollers (Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler decide to take drastic action after their music continually falls on deaf ears. They break into a radio station, hoping to get their demo played on the air. But when the deejay (Joe Mantegna) and station manager (Michael Mckean) refuse to play their song, the boys have no choice but to take the entire radio station hostage.

2 out of 5 stars Wait, how can you pluralize The Lone Ranger?.......2007-04-22

For some reason, I've always had a soft spot for Airheads. I first saw it, like most, on tv a few years back, and thought it was great. Being a musician, and being in a new band at that time, there was a lot that I got out of it. One man's struggle to get his band somewhere is a common theme, but how they do it is always the fun part. Especially when it involves holding up a radio station at gunpoint. Other things I noticed in re-watching it were Adam Sandler doing a role where he didn't scream like an idiot every other, Brendan Fraser being able to actually look like a real rocker and not an over glorified one, and Steve Buscemi, being great as usual. But that's really all in the current viewing. A lot of the jokes have become stale or just "laugh to yourself in your head" funny then they may have been when I was 15. Regardless, I don't think I can ever completely hate the movie. Be it the closing song, eye candy in the form of the two leading ladies, Buscemi's excellent character of Rex, or seeing Chris Farley rip a piercing right off a spot that's sure to make some people cringe.

Taking place in the early 90s when rock music was about as dead as you can get (no, I won't count grunge), with countless bands that all looked the same and sounded equally similar, Chazz sets out to change the face of music. He sings and plays guitar for his band The Lone Rangers, and constantly tries to get his demo tape to a big shot executive at the nearby record company. This time, he's dressed up as a deliveryman and finally makes it to the head of the company, only to find out he can't take things that are unsolicited. Chazz is then thrown out and heads back to his girlfriend's place. While she works hard and takes care of everything on her own, Chazz's only contribution to the home is trying to get a record deal. No job, no school, nothing really useful to their living situation. He tells her that he snuck in, and she basically dumps him, leading Chazz to live with his band mates, Rex and Pip. Rex just so happens to have some water guns that look incredibly real, and fills them up with hot sauce, making for a nice makeshift pepper spray. They then get the bright idea to head down to the local rock radio station and try to get their demo played there. Things don't go the best, and they end up holding up the studio with water guns, though no one else knows that. Cops and metal heads are surrounding the place, hearing everything go down since they're on the air the whole time. Is there really any easy way out of this for The Lone Rangers? No. No there isn't.

There's not much to the movie as a whole really. The Lone Rangers hold up a studio. Chazz and his girlfriend argue a little. Pip and Rex deal with the hostages. The head of the radio station reveals his plans for its future. That's really all there is. What happens in-between is pretty funny the first time around. Pip being an idiot, but not pushing it too far, got a few laughs out of me still, like his run-in with a lone cop outside early on in their takeover. Chris Farley, though not used to even half his potential, has a few good quick gags, including the infamous piercing pull. But most of the supporting cast is lame. Michael Richards is wasted as a would-be undercover agent, stuck in the ventilation system of the station, and barely has any lines. He just keeps making stupid facial expressions. The real star has to be Joe Mantegna as the DJ, who's second only to Chazz for the main role. His one liners and grasp of reality regarding the situation were great. If it seems like I don't have much to say good about the movie, it's because I don't. It's average at best, but a guilty pleasure for many. It's one of those movies that for whatever reason, when it pops up on tv, you'll watch it. Aside from Steve Buscemi being awesome as usual, you probably won't remember much from it after all's said and done either. How rock `n' roll!

My god did they drop the ball on the dvd release. The picture quality looks like it was ripped straight from a vhs copy. Anamorphic widescreen ain't looking pretty here. Tons of grain and fragments plague the screen, and things look way too faded for my taste. Someone needs to clean this sucker good. The audio doesn't have as many problems, but make sure to change the set-up to surround sound over the 4.0 track. It starts out that way, and before I changed things, I thought I was going semi-deaf. I never heard a 4.0 track before, and I hope I never do again after the 10 seconds that I experienced.

Making this an even sloppier release is the lack of any real special features. We get a music video by Motorhead- Born to Raise Hell, for starters. And in my book, anything involving Motorhead as an extra is cool. Sadly, the video's mostly filled with clips from the movie instead of footage of them being awesome. Other than that, the other sole extra is Airheads: Special Report, a poorly done faux-news report that runs for about 15 minutes. It's filled with fake interviews with some of the cast, clips from the movie, behind the scenes footage, and what looks to be some deleted scenes. The report isn't that funny at all, and feels way too forced, even for what it is. It seems like something that would've aired on tv to promote the movie. If it was, I can see why Airheads didn't do too hot, even with the extra Chris Farley bits. I'll admit though that there was one funny part that makes fun of real news reports properly- a reporter says that he's standing in front of a blue screen that will turn into a background of the scene of the crime. It's about time someone says that.

Fans of the movie will buy it without hesitation, and I doubt a special edition will come out this year or next given how long this version's been out. But if you've been curious about it for the reason of one of your favorites being one of the main 3 roles, you're probably better off borrowing or renting. Fraser and Sandler have both done much better, though it was cool to see Fraser as a rocker who isn't a pretty boy or over the top. But as I stress, Buscemi's the man here, and his role serves as a reminder of why he's one of America's best actors, even if it is in a little cult comedy role. The lack of real special features and horrible dvd transfer keep it from reaching even 3 stars in the end.

5 out of 5 stars Rock on...........2007-02-24

A good light hearted comedy about a bunch of metal heads. If you like Adam Sandler comedies this is a great addition.

5 out of 5 stars Airheads.......2007-01-26

I bought it as a gift so not really sure what the movie is about but the person was thrilled to complete his Adam Sandler movie collection with this movie, so I'm assuming its a goodie.

1 out of 5 stars DOES NOT DESERVE A STAR.......2006-08-26

HORRIBLE

NOT FUNNY

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW PEOPLE CAN SAY THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE

ok now i personally, am a adam sandler fan, but i just hated this movie. Accually, i hated it so much, i couldnt even finish it and we had to give it away. i recomend you do not waist your time with this horrible excuse for a movie.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyed it.......2006-06-15

A little corny, but I enjoyed it, especially with the choice of stars. Brendan Fraser can always inspire a laugh, but his portrayal of a desperate rock star is great. He only wants to get his song played on the radio, but things quickly get out of hand...

3 out of 5 stars The Stoned Age.......2007-03-10

Overall a worth while movie to watch
but not as good as Dazed and Confused or Fast Times at Ridgemont High

5 out of 5 stars Groovy.......2007-03-09

Makes you remember old times. For those who lived the 80's stoned this is just what you'll remember. Alcohol, Sex, drugs and metal!!

3 out of 5 stars Not as funny as I remember........2006-10-29

The quality of the video is poor. It looks like they video taped it in a movie theater. The movie has some funny scenes but it's not as good as I remember. I probably liked it so much because my girlfriend at the time hated it.

Love,

Jarrod

5 out of 5 stars Grab a doobie and kick back for some laughs.......2006-08-28

I love this movie. It is definately a cult classic type of film and you will appreciate it a lot more if you were a crazy teen between 1979 to 1984. The plot is simple enough; 2 guys try to get laid and end up in the craziest situations. I wouldn't say this movie is "better" than Dazed & Confused, it is just different and much more realistic in my opinion. I can totaly relate with this film and all of its characters!

5 out of 5 stars "Scnappster?...........that stuff makes me whork!".......2006-06-01

This is probably my all-time favorite party movie. Hubbs and Joe are like a modern day Cheech & Chong. This movie had me laughing so hard, I was crying. I can totally relate to The Stoned Age, because I'm from a small town, and that is all me and my friends did was "drive around trying to get drunk, stoned, and laid". The blonde does get naked in this, but i didnt think that she was as hot as everyone else did. I highly recommend this movie!! It IS better than Dazed and Confused.

The Return of Spinal Tap is based around Tap's performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 1992. In between the footage of Messrs. St. Hubbins, Tufnel, and Smalls performing in front of a huge crowd enthusiastically determined to go along with the joke, there are clips purporting to investigate the band's humble origins in the East London suburb of Squatney, and updates from "rockumentary" director Marty DiBergi and hapless record plugger Artie Fufkin from the original movie. It is the latter component that is the real strength of Return. Though the concert footage faithfully rehashes many of the film's most treasured jokes (the malfunctioning props, the dancing midgets), the real satirical strength of This Is Spinal Tap was never its treatment of heavy metal music (which, after all, is hardly a difficult target). What the first movie did best was illuminate the egomania, paranoia, delusion, and stupidity that are the cornerstones of rock & roll as it is lived. The Return of Spinal Tap is a worthy companion piece. --Andrew Mueller

3 out of 5 stars This only goes to "8"..........2007-03-19

Not nearly as good as the original (which goes to 11, by the way!). Its mostly a live show at the Royal Albert Hall with little snippets thrown in between songs. Not a bad follow up to TIST, but don't let it be your first "Taste of the Tap".

5 out of 5 stars If you like Spinal Tap. . ........2007-02-23

This is actually a concert video from 1992, filmed at Albert Hall in London. The group performs most of their "hits", both songs from "This Is Spinal Tap" and from their follow-up album, "Break Like The Wind." For actors/comedians, they are actually excellent musicians, and the songs are performed with all the seriousness they deserve. Interspersed between the songs are short interviews with semi-celebrities such as Marty DiBergi and Artie Fufkin, along with real celebrities like Martin Short and Kenny Rogers. I would have liked these interviews and clips of the band members at home to be longer, as they are tremendously funny. If you, like me, have both Spinal Tap albums and listen to them regularly, then you will enjoy this live version. If you don't care much about their music, however, there probably isn't enough humor to satisfy you.

3 out of 5 stars They turn the tables on film maker Marty Di Bergi, showing up at his 'office' and putting him on film........2007-02-05

The original movie 'This is Spinal Tap', filmed by amateur movie maker Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) is a very funny spoof of a heavy metal band. There wasn't a real band. The actors portraying 'Spinal Tap' made up songs for use in the documentary -er 'Rockumentary' er mockumentary. We see the band at the coliseum - unable to locate the way to the stage, or saying, "hello Detroit" when they're in Cleveland, or on stage in the midst of various technical or prop-difficulties. It's very funny. Listed as one of the top cult films of all time I think.

In the original mockumentary, at times the jokes go too far, as in when, the guitarist continues to insist his amp is louder, because, "it goes to 11". Here it's obvious the guitarist couldn't really be that dumb and so it's obvious the guitarist's just an actor repeating a line. When a joke becomes too mean, it's not funny anymore, except perhaps for nervous/fear laughter. Still, today, radio stations across the dial advertise, "crank it up to 11. . ."

To a certain extent, in hind-site, I think the joke is on the fearful who do laugh 'at' Spinal Tap rather than laughing with them. Their big song in the mockumentaries is 'Big Bottoms' - "big bottoms, big bottoms, talk about bum-cakes my girl's got 'em." And there's the scene where their record label won't print the cover photo for their album 'Smell the Glove' because it's too 'sexist'. I know, to this day, if someone asks me, to, 'Talk to the hand', I'm liable to respond with, 'Smell the Glove'.

Spinal Tap have actually helped me appreciate metal bands. For instance I'm not a fan of hard rock, or metal bands that mostly have a hard rock sound, tho I am a big metal fan - each song in the mockumentaries seems to spoof a different band/style of metal music, and Spinal Tap are just so harmless and amusing I think they've helped me appreciate some of these other styles more.

'The 25th Anniversary Sell-Out' is not as good as the original movie. They continue the joke from the previous movie tho, pretending to be a real band. Of course, they now know Marty DiBergi, who filmed 'This is Spinal Tap', made fools out of them in the first movie! as shown by this extra footage added on to the first movie. . .

Nigel Tufnel: I think his real last name is DiBergarmo.

David St. Hubbins: No!

Derek Smalls: No, his real last name is DiBergowitz.

Nigel Tufnel: Yeah! DiBergowitz.

David St. Hubbins: No! He's like one of those...

Derek Smalls: Yeah, he is one of those. Check it out: DiBergowitz!

For this movie, '25th Anniversary Sell-Out', Spinal Tap operate the cameras themselves. They turn the tables on film maker Marty DiBergi, showing up at his 'office' and putting him on film. Martys' office seems to be a pay phone inside a pub (he's given the phone number of this public phone out as his office number) and he's waiting by the phone fruitlessly for other offers to come in after his movie 'This is Spinal Tap'.

Of course, this film isn't that good! It's a bit funny but 'The 25th Anniversary Sell-Out' isn't as amusing, or as good as 'This is Spinal Tap'. I like the music tho, so I go ahead and give it an extra star.

4 out of 5 stars "We have returned!".......2007-01-27

Everybody loves Spinal Tap. What rock fan can't love the mockumentary, or the metal band that brought us "Majesty of Rock," "Big Bottom," and leprechauns dancing around a tiny Stonehenge?

And "The Return of Spinal Tap" is exactly what it sounds like -- we get to see these lovably dim rock stars playing their music, and bringing back their "retarded sexuality and bad poetry." It's more live performance than a straightforward sequel, but still brilliant and clever.

"In the annals of rock, no band exemplefies brute persistance more... than Spinal Tap. Over 29 years, 22 name changes, 18 albums and 13 drummers, Tap has stood for the three essentials of rock: loudness, vulgarity, and a pinch of evil."

After that Star-Warsy scroll intro, we get an introduction by some obnoxiously perky person called Martha Quinn. Then it's off to to the Royal Albert Hall in London on July 7 1992, as Spinal Tap is trying to reconquer their native land.

The guys play a bunch of classic songs like "Hell Hole," "Majesty of Rock," "Gonna Rock You Tonight," as well as newer songs like the pompous Middle-Eastern ballad "Clam Caravan" ("It's only the hardiest bloom/That can blossom in darkest Khartoum") and "Break Like The Wind." Nigel also plays some solos with his feet.

And in between, it has some interviews: Tap explaining where they were during those lost years and about their rough childhoods ("... and it'd be cotton wool balls on the plate... moistened and then deep-fried"), their loving fans (a suicidal Robin Williams, Martin Short dancing madly), the people who produced and promoted their records, and even the military guys from the original movie.

If you're expecting a full-blown "This is Spinal Tap 2," you'll be horribly disappointed by "Return of Spinal Tap." But considering what it actually is -- a funny live concert with some mockumentary bits framing it -- and it's quite hilarious.

The concert is pretty good with some moments of sheer brilliance (like the "singing" image of Cher, because she refused to come). But the really good parts are the interviews, which are full of insanely strange little moments that are quite reminiscent of the original.

Some of the jokes are not quite as funny; Nigel seems even denser with stuff like the animal travel agency. But there are plenty of newer ones that are just as funny: the fold-up wine glasses, phone sanitization, and Janine running "Potato Republic," which specializes in "itchy Irish clothing."

The guys -- Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean -- are still riotously funny, especially when they do that rambling dialogue ("My specialty is soccer training, mostly five year olds... four or five year old girls. It's a soccer clinic, really"). They also have a small in-joke -- the Folksmen of "Mighty Wind" are touring with Spinal Tap, and make a brief appearance at the beginning.

"Return of Spinal Tap" isn't quite as funny as its predecessor, but it's still a fun and loving tribute to the loudest band in rock'n'roll. No drummers die, though.

5 out of 5 stars The LaserDisc was superb - hopefully the DVD is too.......2005-05-10

One reviewer comments that the DVD he bought was mono - and he thought it likely to be just one of the stereo channels. That would be criminal, because the LaserDisc stereo soundtrack is truly breathtaking. Amazon lists two different DVD titles for the same film - so I hope one is in pristine stereo. It's a 5 star movie in stereo - half that in mono and much less if you're only getting the left or right channel.

"The Return Of Spinal Tap" proves that Spinal Tap were indeed a band of superb musicians, excellent vocalists and ultimate showmen. It doesn't matter that they are fictional characters, because what you get here is one of the most powerful sounding and visually impressive rock'n'roll stage shows anyone could ever hope to see.

Sadly when Tap did Australian appearances to promote their "Break Like The Wind" CD, the public and media all thought that they were joking when they said they were planning a world tour and that Australia could be included if demand was high enough. This film is some compensation for all of us who missed out on experiencing Tap live and at their peak.

Filmed with inclusion of state of the art flying cameras and superb visual editing as well as sound production. I've enjoyed many repeat viewings of the LaserDisc over the years - and I'm always blown away. Crank your sound system to eleven and enjoy the ride.

This critically acclaimed mockumentary centers around a pair of dim witted head bangers living in Calgary, much to the detriment of their fellow countrymen. If you laughed at Spinal Tap, now laugh at their fans!

5 out of 5 stars Terry & Deaner: Canada's Answer to Spinal Tap.......2005-04-21

I feel as though every Canadian University student should go through atleast one serious FUBAR stage, wherein they must:

1. duct tape all injuries
2. "shotgun"
3. collect imported beers (such as Heineken and Corona)
4. nickname a friend "TRON", and
5. regularly yell: "turn down the suck" and/or "______ funkin' blows"

It's a rite of passage. My phase lasted 3 months.

Seriously though, this movie is hilarious. If you haven't seen it, you should - especially if you're Canadian. I haven't seen a more quotable movie since the Big Lebowski!

4 out of 5 stars This doesn't funkin' blow.......2005-03-01

While the production value of the film is limited, the story (for anyone who's spent their childhood in Canada or the Midwest for that matter) is compelling. This is, in fact, a mockumentary but it keeps a fairly good tongue-in-cheek tone throughout.

The performances by the main leads (Spence and Lawrence) are solid, and the filmmaker does a great job of being unlikeable until his (spoiler) demise.

The most cherished scenes are certainly the description of the van (and its female "protector") and the late night partying around the campfire.

However, the best performance is by the doctor, who, as it turns out, really is the director's doctor.

Sounds and clips can be found at the director's website: www.michaeldowse.com. He's coming out with a new film that should follow gracefully in FUBAR'S footsteps: IT'S ALL GONE PETE TONG and stars the main FUBAR guys (and the Doctor!).

All in all, a good romp.

5 out of 5 stars Extreamly funny.......2005-01-17

I don't see how this couldn't be funny to anyone in the English speaking world. Spinal Tap has been called the best Mocumentry around, but in the opinion of someone born in the mid 1980's FUBAR is by far the funnier film. Don't even attempt to watch it with abunch of people who won't stop talking, as you would miss many of the great lines hidden in the movie.

5 out of 5 stars superfan.......2004-12-16

This dvd rocks my socks off... i've had the chance to meet and hang with a bunch of people who were involved in making this movie... i've even had the opportunity to be in the thor music video... very brief but if played in slow mo i've found myself and friends and family... i have sisters who are good friends with the stars of the movie... i've hung out with "tron" on many occasions and in real life he's an a1a rad dude... i've been to the fubar shows in town and these guys are seriously kick a**... i definitly recommend this dvd to any die hard canadian!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best Canadian Film Ever.......2003-11-07

Canadian films generally aren't much to be proud of, however this is a huge exception. This is a great movie filled with constant hilarity. I can't recommend it enough.

5 out of 5 stars Ah an 80's Flashback..........2007-05-04

When I first watched this movie, back in the 80's. I loved it. I still know all the songs by heart. So when I saw it on Amazon. I was like awesome..... It was a great movie!!! It has the 80's flare and of course great songs. Not to mention Gene Simmons & Ozzy Osborne. If you grew up in the 80's you will get this movie. If you didn't grow up in the 80's, you won't get this movie! lol

3 out of 5 stars Wonderful Cheese.......2007-04-25

I was a heavy metal fan and a horror fan, but even back then, this movie was a 2&1/2 star product at best. It was great fun to see Ozzy play the reactionary preacher, but for me it was all about [SPOILER ALERT]
Genie (Elise Richards) getting seduced, undressed, and molested in the backseat by a demon named Zeek!

[end spoiler]
This steamy scene is worth the price of the DVD,
[SPOILER ALERT] if you're into watching adorable sweaty girls writhe and moan as their clothes slowly and magically unbutton and come peeling off.

[end spoiler]
I was 12 when that movie came out; what a time to be an adolescent!
We will bring you down!

3 out of 5 stars 'Trick or Treat' is a god-awful good movie experience.......2007-04-10

This is one for the 1986 time capsule...

'Trick or Treat' is an obvious product of the suits in Hollywood twidling their thumbs in the board room until one brainiac leaned forward and blurted: "hey, all the kids are into butt-metal right now... how about a sexually ambiguous butt-metal frontman who returns from the grave to kill... and play the high school PROM!!!!"

Genius.

Yeah, it stars the geek who played 'Skip' from 'Family Ties'... and yes we get eye-rolling cameos by Gene Simmons of KISS and Ozzy Osbourne, but man if this little horror turd isn't an unintentional laugh-a-minute flick set to some awesomely bad heavy metal music.

The film centers around high school outcast Eddie Weinbauer, who just can't seem to fit in with the popular crowd. His hatred for his awkwardness is only outweighed by his hardcore love for everything HEAVY METAL, and in particular, rockin' frontman (and apparent political mouthpiece for the 80's generation) Sammi Curr.

Sammi meets an untimely death in a hotel fire, and Eddie is crushed by the news... until he gets a present from Gene Simmons the day before Halloween.

The KISS bassist (but here playing a local radio DJ) hands over a record of Sammi's unreleased music. Eddie plays it, then the record plays itself (I know, bear with me here), and it turns out the newly barbecued Sammi Curr is using the record to communicate with Eddie to help him become cool.

Wackiness ensues... people die... and best of all, YOU get to laugh as it all unfolds.

I caught this ON DEMAND and my girlfriend and I oddly enough fell in love with its cheesy, 80's feel. The DVD is a piece of arse... one of the worst I've ever come across. But, if it's the only way I can own 'Trick Or Treat', I'll take it for six bucks. Maybe we'll get a special 10-Disc edition in the near future.

Rock On.

5 out of 5 stars Trick or Treat is a cool horror flick.......2007-03-20

I've seen this movie the first time on COMCAST on demand & then after viewing it,I've decided to purchase this movie, because it's so cool, especially with two great metal legends of both bands KISS & Black Sabbath Gene Simmons & Ozzy Osbourne who both star in this movie. I must say that I'm very happy with my purchase of the dvd "Trick or Treat".

We saw this movie a number of years ago and were telling the kids about it. They all have seen it and got a good laugh out of it. Not a great movie, but is a good laugh. Halloween is a great time to view it.

No star for the worst storyline ever!!!!!!
No star for the raunchiest sex scene that occurred between those 2 old people, YUCK! No star for the cheesiest, scenes ever! 5 STARS FOR THE HARDROCK/HEAVYMETAL MUSIC that was featured in the movie. They were songs written by PAUL Sabu and performed by E.J. Curcio( bass guitarist of Silent Rage), Geno Andrews ( a 1970s heartthrob and rock star of the 70s and 80s) Sam Mann and that othe dude on keyboards. E.J. Curcio had a great voice, he brought those songs to life! Paul Sabu is a great musician who writes amazing songs. Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na , Cassie, Street Angel were tremendous, too bad the soundtrack is not available on cd at this moment because the music is the only thing that's good about the movie. There was a scene to the Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na song which featured those guys goofing off, acknolodging their fans and getting people to notice them, and posing for rock concert promotion pics. Plus there was another scene later on performing the same song as Zombies which wouldv'e been perfect for a music video, that plus the other footage. There was also them performing the Street Angel song as Zombies ( substract the scenes with those people running away from who knows what amd replace it with them singing the song through out and you've got another perfect music video.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Awful.......2005-09-05

Yes, there may be something wrong with me, but I love bad movies. The more times you see the crew in the shot the better. We bought this movie at the local supermarket last night and I have never laughed so hard in my life. The music is pure cheese, the plot is hysterical, the acting is downright scary. I even checked it out on imdb and all the actors had to be the director's friends, because they have not acted in anything since 1984 when the movie came out. This movie + alcohol + friends = a fabulous time!

4 out of 5 stars Better than Citizen Cane+ Casablanca .......2005-07-20

The only reason this doesn't get a 5 star review is because, the audio isn't Dolby 5.1, these songs won Oscars!!!
IN THE FUTURE.

Own this movie. Everyone you know will think you the better person for it.

It's shame about the poor audio quality, but you can still get a glimpse of the aural bliss to complicate this visual feast of a movie.

They just don't make them like they used too, eh?

5 out of 5 stars JUST AS BAD, AND GREAT AS I REMEMBER IT BEING..........2004-10-11

Wow...a film I never thought would get released on DVD. Here it is...and oh boy...it's just as lousy, stupid, and ridiculous as I remember it being. Why did I give it 5 stars you ask? Well, call it nostalgia....nostalgia for renting ratty looking VHS tapes from the local "Mom & Pop" video stores that no longer exist. This movie brings back great memories of those wonderful old days when I would rent ANYTHING with the words "zombie", "horror", or "splatter" in the title. The actual movie is crap, the DVD quality is crap...but the memories are great, and forever(now thanks to DVD).

JIM BREUER-HEAVY METAL COMEDY (DVD MOVIE)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great comedian and wonderful documentary!.......2003-01-22

Jim Breuer's Heavy Metal DVD is hilarious! His stand up is amazing and the documentary is SUPERB! I love to watch comedy and there are so many awesome comedians out there but Breuer is hilarious in this DVD plus the documentary is the icing on the cake. It has footage of him on the road doing his stand up thing and having fun with fans! If anything, I would watch it for the documentary ONLY because you see inside "Jim Breuer's World" on the road and it's quite humorous. But what's up with the peanut butter infatuation? I like peanut butter but to go to extremes? Watch the DVD and let me know....

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!.......2003-01-04

If you love to laugh your A** off and music as well this is a must have for anyone! Within 5 minutes of watching this dvd I was rolling on the floor and gasping for air to breathe between jokes. Jim's gestures and real life comediac scenerios that I lived through as a teen in the 80's made it that more funny. This guy ROCKS!

Although known for doing his "Goatboy" skits on SNL, which were very funny, this is by far his least best talent on this video.

If you enjoy great stand-up this is the best money spent for a laugh.

The only thing funnier than this DVD would be to see him live which I plan to if he comes to town.

And last but not least, If you enjoy heavy metal the band rocks too.

4 out of 5 stars Ever wonder what life is like for a comedian on the road?.......2002-08-29

If so watch the incredible documentary on this DVD. You get to see Jim get lost on the road, kill in a comedy club, bomb in a comedy club, and everything in between. He tells his version of why he left Saturday Night Live. While the actual performance on the disc is great as well, it is the documentary that makes this a must own.

Album Description

The long awaited return of SPINAL TAP is finally available on DVD! Remember the disaster of the 'Smell the Glove' tour? The Stonehenge set in danger of being crushed by a dwarf? The gig at the air force base? The second billing to a puppet show? Well the band put all that behind them for their much-anticipated return, captured here in a whole new feature-length 'rockumentary'. Behind the scenes we take a look at in the 'where are they now' file. The philosophical Nigel Tufnel, the spiritual David St. Hubbins, & the lukewarm Derek Smalls, bring us up to date with their new directions, as well as showing us where it all began in Squatney, London. There's also a chance to catch up with the familiar faces Marty Di Bergi, ex-Polymer promotions man Artie Fufkin, & Jeanine, who now owns a shop called Potato Republic, specializing in itchy Irish clothing. Prepare to capture once again the sights, the sounds, & the smells of the legendary Spinal Tap. Whadya say - Let's boogie. Approx. 110 minutes. The band are joined on-stage & behind the scenes by a gaggle of friends & celebrities, including Jeff Beck, Martin Short, Kenny Roger, Mel Torme, Bob Geldof, Rob Reiner & more. NTSC/Region 0. Stomp Visual. 2003.

2 out of 5 stars WARNING: only a mono transfer from the NTSC LaserDisc.......2007-06-08

I now own three different versions of "The Return Of Spinal Tap" and this "Region free NTSC" version is clearly the worst.

I can tell that it is only a mono transfer to DVD made from the NTSC LaserDisc - which is crazy, because I own the LaserDisc and it's in superb stereo.

When I transferred my own LaserDisc to DVD I had to use my brother's PAL output player which does a dodgy inbuilt conversion of NTSC for PAL TV's. Using the right setting on the DVR for that type of input gives acceptable results, but the process does noticeably compromise the video quality - making it look slightly washed out.

So the "Region free NTSC" DVD does have a more appealing look about the video - the colour and contrast are more natural. The major flaw is that its soundtrack is very slightly, but very annoyingly, out of synch all the way through - even though it is perfect on my LaserDisc (and my DVD-R copy).

As others have pointed out there are several blatant or widly wrong song titles on this DVD (eight in all), and this fact combined with "The Folksmen" being called "The Folkman", indicates that whoever authored this DVD knows as little about the English language as they do about Spinal Tap - and they were too lazy to even look for up the titles elsewhere.

The other version of "The Return Of Spinal Tap" is on the "bonus" DVD in the 4 disc French made (Studio Canal) boxed set which comes in a Marshall Stack display box. That version is clearly made from the original film stock - it looks fantastic, BUT it is only the first 60 minutes (side 1) of the 110 minutes on the LaserDisc version AND it is also in mono - but with a much wimpier sound than the mono audio of the "Region free NTSC" DVD.

I have given up hope of finding a good quality stereo DVD equivalent to my "Return Of Spinal Tap" LaserDisc. It's not worth sacrificing the superb stereo of my own transfer from the LaserDisc just to get a slightly better looking picture (as with the "Region free NTSC" DVD) or even to get a fantastic looking picture, but without the last 50 minutes of the original program (as in the Studio Canal boxed set version).

The "Region free NTSC" DVD is a two star version of a five star film.

4 out of 5 stars "We... have... RETURNED!".......2007-02-03

5 out of 5 stars Nigel must have been the proofreader ..........2007-01-29

... the DVD menus have some silly missspellings. Still to be watched repeatedly and cherished. The little people dancing (note the Sienfeld alumnus) in the "Stonehenge" segment are precious, and the audience jammin' is fun.

This was a TV special that was edited and converted to DVD. Note that this disc does NOT contain the infamous Robin Williams suicide bit on the original TV special. I still have the videotape of the TV special and compared the two, noting this glaring omission.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first!!!.......2006-07-25

More of their own songs but it is more of a live performance than ROCKumentery like the first. Worth watching if you are a true fan of Spinal Tap!!!
