Like the hit album that inspires its name, Supernatural Live brings journeyman guitarist Carlos Santana back into the mainstream by surrounding him with younger superstars eager to bask in his formidable musical presence. Resuscitating stardom through sheer proximity can translate to forced pairings or superfluous music making, but credit Santana himself with minimizing such missteps. A fusion artist before the term was coined, the erstwhile Mexican street musician long ago extended his technical reach and broadened his stylistic palette by hungrily assimilating different styles of music. Accordingly, he shifts gears easily, whether soloing behind Dave Matthews, trading lines with legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter, or spicing up a hip-hop excursion with Lauryn Hill.
Santana justifiably taps into the late '90s' breakout for Latin pop, hardly surprising in light of his early identification with Latin-rock via his 1968 recording debut. His early reworking of Tito Puente's classic "Oye Como Va" thus pops up as the set closer, while the concert kicks off with a frenetic, horn-powered "(Da Le) Yaleo," given added spectacle by a swaying corps of lissome female dancers in feathered headgear. Elsewhere, the guitarist hosts a procession of the stars that added their marquee value to the Supernatural album, including Rob Thomas (the massive hit, "Smooth," here performed as a medley with "Dame Tu Amor") and Everlast. But a duet with label colleague Sarah McLachlan on "Angel" yields the concert's only anticlimax--on a ballad built from spare piano and a poignant lyric, Santana's innate taste leaves him little to contribute beyond a delicate tracery of classical guitar.
Production values are excellent, with crisp camera work and sound mixing. A special remote camera, mounted on the neck of Santana's guitar, presents his intricate fretwork in nifty close-ups that are wisely held to just a few songs. --Sam Sutherland

But when the love of his life, fiery Elektra Natchios (Garner), is targeted by New York City's ruthless Kingpin of Crime (Michael Clarke Duncan) and his deadly assassin Bullseye (Colin Farrell), Daredevil may be about to meet his match. Featuring pulse-pounding action, martial arts wizardry and breathtaking special effects, "Daredevil rocks!" (WJW-TV)

Darker than its popular comic-book predecessor Spider-Man, the $80 million extravaganza Daredevil was packaged for maximum global appeal, its juvenile plot beginning when 12-year-old Matt Murdock is accidentally blinded shortly before his father is murdered. Later an adult attorney in New York's Hell's Kitchen, Murdock (Ben Affleck) uses his remaining, superenhanced senses to battle crime as Daredevil, the masked and vengeful "man without fear," pitted against dominant criminal Kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan) and the psychotic Bullseye (Colin Farrell), who can turn almost anything into a deadly projectile. Daredevil is well matched with the dynamic Elektra (Jennifer Garner), but their teaming is as shallow as the movie itself, which is peppered with Marvel trivia and cameo appearances (creator Stan Lee, Clerks director and Daredevil devotee Kevin Smith) and enough computer-assisted stuntwork to give Spidey a run for his money. This is Hollywood product at its most lavishly vacuous; die-hard fans will argue its merits while its red-leathered hero swoops and zooms toward a sequel. --Jeff Shannon

My teenage son collects marvel comics movies and is pleased with this one as well as the others.
MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL CUT OF THE FILM!.......2007-06-23
If you don't own this film and are thinking of buying this movie, buy the director's cut. This version really improves on the rushed feeling and sometimes hard to follow theatrical version.
Please enter a title for your review.......2007-05-27
I assumed this movie would be generic but more than likely watchably entertaining. Turns out it's neither. It seems more british than american, the way it's edited to barely let you in on what's going on. The establishment and development of characters fits somewhere between slow and non-existant, and as if the premise of a blind superhero wasn't dumb enough the fight scenes seem specifically designed to induce laughter. By the halfway point the movie hasn't created any excitement or set up any plot points for you to anticipate the resolution of, something any decent action movie should do in the first 15 minutes.
Amazing.......2007-05-24
I enjoyed both versions of Daredevil, but this one is longer and better, with even more action and is darker. One of the best superhero movies out there.
Daredevil Director's Cut.......2007-05-13
This film is MUCH better than the theatrical release (which I liked a lot). There is a lot more cohesion and apparently peripheral characters like Foggy Nelson, even Bullseye, get much more screen time in this version. It's a shame this wasn't the version that came out in the cinema. Maybe we would have been spared the dross that was Elektra.....
Anyway, great film, far superior version. Buy it. Definitely.

Brilliant!!.......2007-06-24
This used to be a "filler" on the film entertainmnet system on Qantas international flights: watched it so many times and it just seemed to get better and better!!!
One of the best........2007-05-14
Santana has been one of my all time favorite concerts- they know how to put on a show and celebrate life and music. (Just like his live concerts - it unbelievable- the sound quality and perfection that Carlos and his band are able to achieve-Live). I expected all the great old songs and was surprised to hear some new and different and great guest collaborations. This is one that I watched again right away. I consider this a piece of musical history- so many great musicians in one place. My husband had not seen Santana before and was an immediate fan by the 2nd song. (and not just because of the showgirls)
OK make that 3 1/2 ... It's CARLOS...!.......2006-06-27
Carlos Santana isn't simply a musician. He's become more of a legend in the nearly 4 decades since he stepped onstage at Woodstock wearing a Jesus Christ "crown of thorns" tee shirt and played the living "you know what" out of that red Gibson SG.
Since then, Carlos has become the goodwill ambassador for alot of ideals and spirituality that, whether yer on his trip or not, represent all that is good, kind, generous and (dare I say it without making you hurl ) LOVING in the world today. So let's put everything into a slightly different perspective than a simple concert review. A Santana concert is a celebration of brotherhood and fraternity for people around the world.... Something that we could use alot more of these days. This concert certainly delivers a generous portion of just that.
Rarely is someone going to like all of the diverse guest performers in this concert. In fact, being an old geezer and retired pro musician myself, they aren't really my thing either.... So bloody what? Besides, Carlos and the producers of this concert were smart enough to give the younger crowd all these new stars and die hard old Santana fans plenty of the old numbers too. Pretty smart marketing, eh?
As always, the Santana Band delivers tight music, great arrangements,(for rock-n-roll anyway) killer percussion work and Carlos can still play the doggy dew out of a guitar.... Just like he always has. (.......and while I'm at it, I'd just like to remind all the music snobs who say "Old Carlos has lost his chops", let's see how well you still play guitar in your mid sixties)... So there.... ya cocky little dilettantes.
I haven't bothered to check out the price at which Amazon's dealers are selling this DVD. But hell, I'd pay ten bucks just to see that drop dead gorgeous PRS guitar that Carlos plays with the orange flame maple top. It's so brilliantly figured it looks like it's about catch fire.... just beautiful.
All in all this DVD is worth having. Perhaps for the Santana connoisseur this concert pales in comparison to Sacred Fire in Mexico.... But what the hell........ It's Carlos fricken Santana...!!
How bad could it possibly be....?

Amazing.......2006-02-19
I did listen this cd/dvd before and to a Santana fan this is a must
Legendary.......2006-01-20
I love the way Carlos brings the new and old together on this DVD with his many diversified guests. As a 'for fun' conga player I go nuts when I hear the timbales, congas, bongos and all of that fabulous latin percussion that Carlos has thankfully brought to the mainstream.
When the DVD opens you get the flamingo dancers with brightly colored head dresses and you know it's only gonna get better from there. Don't want to say too much, but trust me, you'll love it. Enjoy.

"Belief gets us there," explains nun Linda Hunt to grieving widower Kevin Costner, an emergency room doctor whose ordered world is startled by "messages" from his dead wife. She's talking about the journey from life to death, but it describes the doctor's road from fact to faith equally well as he puzzles out the otherworldly events of his life. Costner's mourning comes off less lost and sad than simply emotionless and inert, but he finds good support from Kathy Bates as his sassy neighbor. Her appearances, along with a few startling horror-movie-type shocks, energize a film otherwise shrouded in loss, grief, and the hushed mood of supernatural spookiness. It's like a fusing of Ghost, The Sixth Sense, and The Mothman Prophecies, a New Age melodrama in a sentimental key that works through a rather contrived mystic mystery to a glowing climax. This is less a ghost story than a modern twist on the old-fashioned miracle. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Pleasant love story.......2007-06-21
First, I do have to say I like Kevin Costner is just about any movie, but this brought out a very gentle side of Costner.
The movie is part spiritual, mystery, thriller, romance and love. It is definitely, "what would and how far would you go to unearth a mystery and give your love and life for the one you were meant to be with."
I really like the movie-I own the movie (B)
Shadyac, take it from me and TLC, don't go chasing waterfalls........2007-05-19
The concept of death surrounds me recently. Not that friends and/or family or passing away, but with the films and television programs that I have been watching recently, it seems to be a common occurrence. I am in the middle of viewing full seasons of "The 4400" which deals with the death of some to cause a "ripple effect" that would heal the world, "Monk" - which in each episode someone dies and it is up to Shalhoub to solve the mystery of the dead person, and surprisingly I am trying to figure out "Lost", which is teetering on the exploration of the possible death/purgatory of its central characters. So, with all this "death" surrounding me, why not pick up a film that may give me a chuckle (due to the director's prior comedic turns) as well as give me a new insight on the unknown explanation of the death phenomenon. One would hope that this would be the case with "Dragonfly", but upon a second viewing - as well as the voice of director Shadyac informing us that he didn't enjoy the final cut of this film - it was only discovered that Kevin Costner cannot paint us a picture of death - nor should we ever ask him to.
To be utterly up front with anyone reading this review, I am not going to paint a pretty picture of what I witnessed with this outing. There was nothing, I repeat, nothing of value with this film that tried to blend the teary eye of Costner with that of "The Sixth Sense". First time drama director Shadyac (who would be better known as the founder of "Ace Ventura"), cannot seem to grasp this film as he continually combines cliché elements from other films, random occurrences that never quite link us to the ending, and a complete waste of actual talent. He has the blocks to build the story, but instead he just tosses them into a waterfall hoping that they will land upright. Was this a supernatural thriller, was it a romantic drama, or was it just another venue for Kevin Costner to attempt to apply his "leading man" status to? For me, I couldn't quite see where Shadyac was going or what genre he was interacting with. The trouble begins with the story, of which couples with soul-mates, dragonflies, and coming back from the dead, as well as what a popular majority thinks. Listening to the commentary, Shadyac explains that his cut of the film wasn't as received as the final cut because too many people knew the ending prior to it happening. In my eyes - that is worthwhile if the story continues to attract us - but in "Dragonfly" that is not the case. The story is trite and quite dull, leading to an ending that surprises mainly because you don't care any further. Joe Darrow lost his wife, cannot cope even months later, and begins to think that she is contacting him from the dead - but for what reason? If you weren't pulled in by my synopsis, then I do not suggest viewing this film because in 22 words, I have probably told you everything.
The acting is atrocious, possibly the worst roles created for two very talented actors. I am speaking of both Costner and that unknown talent that normally reverberates from Kathy Bates, but seemed to be missing this time. Perhaps it is the tone, the vague symbolism, or just the fact that these two needed paychecks that soured this film, but instances were not connecting. By the big "surprise" at the end, we are either so tired of the events or have (in my case) forgotten them, that there is no "gasp" or shock, merely just excitement to have a finale to this horrid broadcast. Shadyac has talent as a director, I even find myself laughing at "Bruce Almighty", but drama is not his cup of tea. This film was too dark without any signs of light, which can be a good thing for skilled directors, but not for first-time Shadyac. He needed a blend of comic with the eerie unknown, which would have offset the disaster this train was headed towards. Costner couldn't carry Shadyac's work, and became murky and muddled through the middle. He had no central focus, so we - as audience members - didn't know who he was. Was he crazy or just in love? How come we never saw his love for his wife? Unanswered questions that Shadyac and Costner never allowed anyone to answer.
To add to my disgust was the filming overall of this movie. Just as I was confused as to the real ending to the film, I am sure that those involved were equally as confused. We move, rather quickly, from children seeing the dead, to dragonflies, to white water rafting, all the way back to some native tribe in South America. It just seemed like we were jumping rather quickly, but in the wrong direction. Without giving it away, I had forgotten the main element to the ending when we got to it because we were muddled with so many other un-needed moments that the ending just seemed watered down and dull. Honestly, I was bored with this movie because it lead us down one path, somehow jumped to another, and tried to make it back to that original path that was already lost and forgotten. The music didn't match with the actions or emotions of the characters, the hints were hidden and expected, there was no moment of self-discovery. There wasn't a scene in the film where I suddenly went, "oh, I get it" -- and that is sad. "Dragonfly" had the potential, I just felt that Shadyac was behind the wheel of a vehicle that he couldn't control, and as you listen to the commentary, you can sense (and at times hear) that he didn't want to be behind the wheel at all.
"Dragonfly" is a pointless corporate film driven to bring in more money while capitalizing on the income produced by "The Sixth Sense". There are borrowed elements that Shadyac cannot control as well as actors that walk through their scenes wondering when the paycheck will arrive at their doorstep. This is the worst film to see Kathy Bates perform, and Costner continues to dig himself a bigger hole. As you listen to the commentary, this film underwent quite a bit of changes due to viewer issues and response, which I think is the worst way to edit a film. Shadyac has no problems saying that he edited this wrong, and that he didn't like "x" scene, and that he felt this was completely amateurish - which only helps solidify a inner feeling of disappointment with the film. He selflessly promotes "Bruce Almighty" during this film, which drove the nail further into the already built "Dragonfly" coffin. I do not suggest this film to anyone unless you like your water from the tap, meaning that if you don't mind drinking muddled, tainted, and possibly poisoned liquid - than "Dragonfly" will be the film for you. It was that bad.
Shadyac, take it from me and TLC, don't go chasing waterfalls.
Grade: * out of *****
Dragonfly.......2007-05-08
Very good movie. Most interesting as it starts as sorta very sad when the doctor loses his wife while she was on a missionary trip. Couple of weird and a little scary movie until the end which is a heartfelt surprise. The doctor (Kevin Costner) wins something most beautiful. It's definately worth watching.
I'll admit it... (possible spoiler - don't read if you haven't seen it).......2007-05-06
At the end of the movie, I get all choked up and some wet brinely-like substance drips onto my face out of the corner of my eyes. I first rented this movie when it came out a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I tend to leave it on whenever I see it on any of the cable channels that show it often. The last scene in the jungle of Venezuela is just beautiful and, seriously, being the father of a baby boy and a 3 year old beautiful little girl, I can never get enough of that scene. I completely feel Kevin Costner's emotion come through in this scene and the whole movie as well. Great acting, very nice plot and an awesome soundtrack make this well worthwhile. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because, for as enjoyable as it was, the only movies that get 5 stars for me are the classics like To Kill A Mockingbird, Blazing Saddles, Schindler's list etc.
Good Family Movie.......2007-04-02
It's not a great movie, but is good. I especially enjoyed the fact that there was no profanity, nothing gory, etc. I wish other "new" movies would learn from this. It's not necessary to use foul language three times per sentence, nor to show limbs being chopped off to provide entertainment.

Description
For Daredevil, justice is blind, and for the guilty?there's hell to pay! Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner ignite dangerous sparks and nonstop thrills in this "dazzling action-adventure" (The Film Journal) about the newest breed of superhero. By day, blind attorney Matt Murdock (Affleck) toils for justice in Hell's Kitchen. By night, he's Daredevil, The Man Without Fear - a powerful, masked vigilante stalking the dark streets with an uncanny "radar sense" that allows him to "see" with superhuman capabilities. But when the love of his life, fiery Elektra Natchios (Garner), is targeted by New York City's ruthless Kingpin of crime (Michael Clarke Duncan) and his deadly assassin Bullseye (Colin Farrell), Daredevil may be about to meet his match.

Daredevil DVD.......2007-07-06
Buy it. Definitely.

Performance of a lifetime by Jeff East.......2006-11-14
Fran Drescher is a hottie but Jeff East steals the show. Those that comment on his hair are just jealous--that's his natural look--no perm added! i suggest people see this movie and I bet they will be overwhelmed with pleasure.
To be more than honest with you..........2006-01-15
I really enjoyed this considering it was in the bargain basement (most of them aren't uusually worth picking up). I was forewarned that the front cover-art had nothing realling to do with the film (ie. skeleton). When I looked at the back of the cover and saw some of the scenes from the film with Linda Blair, I vaguely remembered seeing this years ago on TV.
I finally watched the DVD the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's one of those films that you cannot take seriously, but just treat it as a bit of escapism. While the storyline is totally far-fetched, the acting makes up for it. Lee Purcell was great as the cousin who is nothing but a nasty witch.
This 1978 movie turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon's viewing. Worth a look (just don't take it too seriously).
Gives witches a bad name........2005-09-23
I'd have given it 2 1/2 stars if i could.
A demon mama shows up at Linda Blair's house, seduces her family and friends with magic and it's up to poor Linda to fix it.
The performances were good ,good enough that i found myself yelling stuff like "she stole her bf and you think that it's ok that they still live in the same room, mom???" at the tv.
It could've been better if the witchcraft savvy professor had been given more screen time.
He was a fairly interesting and underutilized character.
Dumbest thing about the movie was all the witchcraft themed stuff.
Wicca aren't evil and they aren't like vampires who can't be seen in photographs.
This movie is worth renting but not buying.
Summer of Fear (1978).......2004-06-27
Entertaining telechiller from Wes Craven starring Linda Blair. Blair plays Rachel, whose cousin Julia (Lee Purcell) comes to live with her and her family at the farm, but macabre events begin to happen and Rachel soon suspects that Julia is practicing witchcraft and voodoo. I wasn't expecting much out of this thriller but in my opinion, it worked very well and was surprisingly scary. Blair does a good job as Rachel and we are with her every step of the way, and Purcell is great as Julia. Wes Craven gives the film a slick, hard look and an impressive atmosphere (this was Craven's first 35mm film), and the script by Glenn M. Benest and Max Keller is riveting and suspenseful. Lois Duncan's acclaimed novel gets a nice little fright of a treatment with this little TV gem.
Fun TV movie!!!.......2004-06-23
When young Julia's (Lee Purcell) parents are killed in a car accident, she moves in with cousin Rachel (Linda Blair) and her family. At first, things are seemingly normal, but Rachel quickly comes to believe that the distant newcomer is a witch who's out to steal her boyfriend, her father, and her new party dress.
The story is based on Louis Duncan's (I Know What You Did Last Summer) well-regarded young adult novel. For Linda Blair, the role marks a transition between her prepubescent "Exorcist" character and the flashy roles she'd play a few years later. In the same way, for director Wes Craven, the film is a huge step away from his early exploitation attempts (Last House on the Left, The Hills have Eyes) and toward mainstream respectability (A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream).
Produced for CBS television in the 70's, as A Stranger in the House, standards and practices at the time didn't allow any gore or extreme violence -- a pair of demonic eyes and a car crash or two is all you're gonna get, so don't expect any more than cheesy 70's PG-13 violence. But comparing Wes Craven's early efforts, Summer of Fear is actually his most accomplished film, at least technically. His first feature shot on 35mm, Fear looks slicker, is generally better acted, and comes from acclaimed source material, which it sticks pretty closely to.
That's not to say Summer of Fear is an undiscovered classic. The film is very campy, and offers plenty of unintentional laughs. Craven's direction is often rough and amateurish, but he shows some flair with background/foreground compositions and even throws in a few classic Craven-ian dream sequences to appease the Elm Street gang. I also like the fun supporting cast, including an appropriately bitchy Lee Purcell as the bad girl, a young Fran Drescher as Blair's best friend, and even Superman himself, Jeff East, complete with a bad perm.
This is a fun film to say the least, recommended for fans of the novel and those anxious to see Craven's Pre-Scream films. Don't expect anything special and you will have a good time. Thank you Artisan, for releasing this forgotten, but never lost, TV movie.

Pretty sorry excuse for a teen slasher film.......2005-10-03
This is probably one of the worst horror flicks I have ever seen. I first saw it when I was really young and thought it was pretty scary so when i saw it in the video store other day I thought I'd see how well it held up. Well it didn't at all. When I was little the mask seemed so scary now it just seems stupid. There are a lot of things that work against this movie. First of all is the killer, if you could even call it that. The "killer" doesn't really kill anyone. It seems as if he/she about to kill one girl but before he/she has a chance she dies from fright which is lame. The killer has these long sharp claws that he/she made but everytime he/she swings at someone with them he/she misses them then when he/she has the perfect chance to use them to kill someone he/she doesn't do it! Second of all is the predictability of it all. When the killer first appears there's no doubt to who it is. Third is the plot. The plot is just lame. The whole someone has come back to take revenge for past wrongs has been done many times over. Fourth is the characters. How many older teens do you know throw freakin costume parties without any drinking involved? I'm not saying I condone teen drinking but please make it more realistic. Fifth is some of the horrible dialogue. Example: The killer has got a girl around the neck. The girl says, "Please don't kill me!" then the killer says, "Something much worse." then cuts her face a little bit with his/her claws as the girl screams "Not my face!" Please thats just stupid. Sixth and lastly the ending. The ending sucked. I felt that it cheated me but considering the rest of the movie I wasn't suprised. The explanation for the whole thing is so convoluted that it's ridiculous. Also the big showdown scene lacks suspense. For all my complaining I did see potential for an excellent movie. If had changed a few elements it could've been an excellent entry into the teen slasher genre instead of a wannabe Scream.
PLOT:
A teen from California named Sarah Zultan(Sarah Chalke) moves to Massachusettes with her mom. She has an interest in the occult and a smart mouth. The members of the Descendents Club(Kyra, Eric, Debbie, Kevin, and Misty) all begin to believe she is a reincarnation of a witch who swore revenge on their 5 ancestors 300 years earlier. There are a few suprises thrown when the weird loser of the school Charlie(Ben Foster)reveals to Sarah that he's also a member of the Descendents Club but the others believe there are only five descendents.
CAST:
I'm not going through the whole cast in this review because no one in the cast did an outstanding job in their roles and most of them will probably not be landing anymore acting gigs outside of crap like this. The three most well known are probably Sarah Chalke from the Roseanne, Soleil Moon Frye from Punky Brewster and Ben Foster who actually has been getting a few roles in Hollywood these days.
FINAL WORD:
This is a below average entry in the teen slasher genre. I doubt it will scare anyone over 12.
A decent thriller that could have been a very good one........2004-08-28
*SPOLERS*
"I've been waiting for you" is one of those movies that could have been something much more. This was originally a Tv-movie for lifetime and then, in later years, was released on DVD. The cover of the film markets the film as a teen slasher flick, which is what it should have been. I think the producers of the movie forgot that in order for a movie to be a slasher movie, the killer has to actually kill people, which is where the film failed. Even if they wanted to keep the movie "Tv-friendly" or "PG-13" they still could have killed off the cast. That's what should have happened to move the plot along. The first half of this movie was pretty good. It was entertaining, but then the movie shifts gear, in order to prepare for it finale. Which is fine, but the killer just basically chased people around for the rest of the movie. I mean, by the end of the movie, I kinda felt cheated. But anyway, it's actually quite clever and the plot is interesting. If this film had the violence and gore it needed, it could have definetly been a standout slasher flick.

I first noticed this movie like a year or so ago. it was in the old release/horror section at the video store. At first, i wasn't quiet sure if i should rent (mainly for the fact that it seemed like it was a I Know what you did last Summer)....but i rented it anyway's. And boy was i surprized. It was actually a really decent movie. The cast was really good. They all seemed to fit there parts really well. And soile moon frye was very hot....oh yeah.....hehehehehe.
Well, anyway, you should rent this movie. You won't be dissapointed.
WHICH WITCH IS IT?.......2004-01-10
The identity of the "masked madman" is pretty obvious once the character is introduced, and even though they try and throw some red herrings at you, "I've Been Waiting for You", a middling TV movie, offers nothing new. Sarah Chalke does a good job in the lead role of Sarah, the young girl who moves to Pinecrest, Massachusetts, where three hundred years earlier, a witch named Sarah Lancaster was toasted at the stake and gosh darn put a curse on the descendants of the people who burned her!
We are of course treated to the snooty five descendants of such people who are convinced the new Sarah is the witch Sarah come back for revenge.
Interestingly enough, the masked man only kills one person and that's only because she was stupid enough to die of fright. The others he just sort of scares. Ho hum. While a modicum of suspense is maintained, the overall effect is generic tv movie syndrome. Poor Markie Post looks like she filmed this movie on two hours sleep. The rest of the cast is appropriately dysfunctional and the ending is rather ludicrous.
Rent, don't buy.

This thoroughly second-rate follow-up to the groundbreaking (and highly profitable) horror flick The Blair Witch Project--produced by Blair Witch directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez--plays with the notions of reality and fantasy that surrounded the hype of the original movie, and attempts to throw in some scares along the way. A year after the release of the original film, a group of five Blair Witch aficionados--four out-of-towners led by one seriously unhinged "tour guide"--venture into the woods outside Burkittsville, Maryland, on a tour of the sites made famous by missing documentarians Heather, Mike, and Josh. After a drunken night of camping out in hopes of communing with the spirit of the Blair Witch, the five wake up to find that their seemingly innocent sleep may have been disturbed somehow. But what exactly happened? If you're expecting suspense of the first degree and a horrifying payoff similar to the one that climaxed the first film, you'll be sorely disappointed. After retreating to an old, run-down broom factory (get it? Broom factory? Blair Witch? Oh well...), the five go over their videotapes of the night in question to get some answers, and basically wind up screaming at each other for the remainder of the film, and shedding some blood along the way. Documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger (of the highly acclaimed Paradise Lost and Brother's Keeper) proves that he should definitely stick to nonfiction filmmaking, and the entire cast is grating and unpleasant, aside from a scene-stealing turn by Kim Director as a goth chick with attitude to burn and a no-nonsense approach to this Blair Witch stuff. Strictly for hard-core Blair Witch fans only, and even then this sequel may prove to disappoint. --Mark Englehart
Customer Reviews:
Embrace Some Ambiguity, Baby........2007-07-01
I love the first thirty minutes of this movie. I like the characters, the feel of things, the way the story is developing and the constant use of the soundtrack. Then, as the movie winds its way into "scare" mode, things start to stall and finally come to a screeching halt. But back to the good points. Kim Director is excellent as "Kim Diamond" the goth empath. I also liked Erika Leerhsen as overbearing "Wiccan Hottie" and Jeffery Donovan as the slightly crazy Jeff Patterson (In an homage to the first Blair Witch, the main characters have the same names as the actors portraying them). Tristan Skyler and Stephen B. Turner have taken a lot of flack on here for their portrayals of a researcher and his fiance, but they do the best with what they are given: the "serious" roles in the group of four people taking the inaugural trip on Jeff's "Blair Witch Hunt" tour of Burkittsville, MD, home of the Blair Witch. Look for product placement galore: Shinerbock beer, Pete's Wicked Ale, Moosehead Beer. The scenes at the convenience store are hilarious: the store only sells the above three beers! Also, the weird little hidden things that the DVD touts as the "Secrets of ESREVER!" are interesting to try to find.
The next two thirds of the movie is awful and not in a funny way. I never stop being disappointed in what I see. Much has been made of the movie "operating at a higher level" than a horror movie or suffering from its relationship to the original Blair Witch movie. Nothing could be further from the truth. This movie was promoted as a "real life" documentary that had to be altered slightly to avoid a lawsuit from the families of the victims. There was a made for TV movie called "Shadow of the Bliar Witch" released just before BW2 that played this up to the hilt: in it footage of the "REAL" Jeff Patterson and his "REAL" tour group are spliced in with "REAL" news footage from Burkittsville, etc., all in an attempt to make the viewer believe that BW2, like BW1, was based on real events. So, everything was set up to make a movie IN the "Blair Witch Mythos," but something bad happened along the way. It's my opinion that writer/ director Joe Berlinger really dropped the ball in his work on this movie and he proves it in his comments in the DVD booklet. He goes on and on about his "vision", etc., etc. and finally makes the statement that with BW2 he has "embraced ambiguity." In other words, he doesn't know what it means either. Well, that might be a good thing when one is describing their 12th grade charcoal drawing for art class, but it's not enough when one is attempting to justify screwing up what could have been a great movie.
It's not that bad...well, in a way.......2006-12-25
You know it's strange but I swore I could've remembered watching the entire film once. It's been on TV quite a few times and I remember watching it when I rented it but watching it recently I was surprised by how little I remembered of it. Walking around at the store, I noticed one of those patented gift sets where you can buy a set containing all the movies about a certain subject or filmmaker or franchise and sure enough there was a double-pack containing both Blair Witch films, a CD-Rom and a stick-man necklace. I thought I'd just review 2 since I haven't done that yet and found that while it's not Battlefield Earth or House of the Dead bad, there's a huge chunk of "missed opportunity syndrome" running rampant.
The original was a mock documentary that was advertised as the real deal. The sequel pretends it really did happen so we have 2 researchers (Tristan and Stephen), a goth chick (Kim) an unbelievably sexy Wicca (Erica) and a former mental patient/director (Jeff) who attend Jeff's tour of the famous sites. Only things, naturally, turn creepy and find everything totalled and hours missing. They go to Jeff's house where things get even more twisted and videotapes show lots of things that go bump in the night.
Cheesy story description I know but seriously, how else can I do it? As director Joe Berlinger says in the booklet, it would've been silly to continue the story of Josh, Mike and Heather since they're on and about and doing movies and TV shows so instead they have a story that pretends the movie was real, hence stuff like "man that movie was so cool, we really connected" or the trailer line "cause I thought the movie was cool". The one problem with the film was that it just didn't feel scary or suspenseful. Sure the story was interesting and the premise but nothing seemed to match the tent scene, the ending or even Heather's apology in the original.
The acting is kind of hit-or-miss. We get scene-stealing Kim Director who thankfully isn't that brooding "I love goth stuff, woo goth!" that I sometimes see and we get the unbelievably hot Erica Leerhsen who's also a talent to watch but then we get Lanny Flaherty who's ridiculously over-the-top or Stephen Barker Turner who almost tries too hard. But the film as a horror is only very marginally effective but at least the cast at times acts like it's worth a damn unlike the new wave of horror actors where it's like "please, write her off".
Book of Shadows is almost like those inoffensive films that I sometimes see: it didn't make me outright hate it, but I didn't really love it but I didn't feel I wasted my time.
absolute insult to the origional!.......2006-12-04
anyone who likes this sequal (i don't even consider it a sequal to BWP)is mentally retarded...or just like crappy movies.
Better than the first, Better than most...........2006-10-17
Okay, if I get one person to see this movie and like it as much as I did, I feel like I accomplished something. From the opening credits w/Marilyn Manson's 'Disposable Teens' set to a flurry of autumn colors and blood spatter to the whole 'nothing was what it seems' ending, this movie is classic in almost every way. Forget the fact it's a sequel. Forget anything that annoyed you about the first movie. Think of this as just 'Book of Shadows', not a sequel...Joe B. is a smart filmmaker, and at least this movie offers us something than the usual slasher fare; There are some truly unsettling developments in this movie; The production, art design, and acting are much better than most. I was most impressed with the reactions of the characters during the final 15 minutes of the movie, when things really start to fall apart; One of the last scenes involves a certain character(this is NOT a spolier....)screaming that what he had just saw on tape was not what he had seen himself in person; His reaction was just like mine would have been, and it was pretty intense to say the least. This movie got a raw deal. I'm sure someone out there agrees...
bottom of the barrel film making.......2006-06-29
this in name only sequel to the hit blair witch movies is the pits. the only good thing about it is they did try to make a different kind of film from the first.but having said that, that is the only good thing. the plot is a mess and the cast really gets on your nerves. the story about a group of kids taking a tour of the sites of the first movie and finding themselves in over their heads after a night where they can't remember what they did or how their campsite got torn up is very thin(i spoted the "twist" 5 mins. after it started)and it never gets you to belive in the story! SKIP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the gloomy overcast atmosphere of Seven, a supernatural undercurrent that echoes in films from The Exorcist to The Sixth Sense, and a plot that could have sprung from The X-Files, Gavin Wilding's Premonition is a spooky--if not wholly convincing--story of a rift in the fabric of fate. Canadian actress Cynthia Preston is a young Seattle reporter (that explains the constant drizzle) for a supermarket tabloid of paranormal phenomena, but these fictions are nothing compared to the strange events that erupt around her. Glass and ceramics shatter in her presence, earthquakes and hurricanes erupt around her, and a web of glowing blue energy beams crisscrosses the city above her home. Not that anyone notices, even her morose roommate (Adrian Paul of the Highlander TV series), who picks up the wreckage from their apartment's most recent lashing completely unfazed. It's up to her cynical, disillusioned editor (Christopher Lloyd) to dig through the mysterious pieces of her secret past. Wilding's funereal solemnity almost smothers the story, which loses momentum in a laughable third-act metaphysical "explanation," but the uneasy tension and creepy mood carry the film through even its most unconvincing developments. The film was originally titled the more accurate Convergence (the premonitions here are rare, but the film concludes in an eerie, if all-too-neat convergence of its haunted trio). --Sean Axmaker
Description
When reporter Ali Caine (Cynthia Preston: Whale Music) goes undercover with her partner Morley Allen (Christopher Lloyd: Man on the Moon) to expose the mystery behind a string of supernatural murders, what they unravel is far more gruesome than they ever imagined. Strange coincidences begin to occur - a psychiatric patient predicts the death of Ali's best friend, a young boy bleeds from his hands and feet, and Brady (Adrian Paul: Highlander IV), a man obsessed with death, becomes her new lover. As the fabric of her life begins to unravel, Ali realizes that her past and present are converging head on. Suddenly she must confront the fate that is determined to take its course and claim the life of the one who cheated death.

it's okay for a rental.......2005-08-21
the ending leaves you with the thought of a parallel universe. It was like a time warp and "what if" things turned out this way?
ugh........2001-09-20
this movie was awful. it made no sense whatsoever. i watched this movie twice, and it STILL made no sense. if i could i would give it negative stars. it BLEW!
Premonition.......2001-07-30
This movie. is good. And most of the stuff that "happened" in this movie does happen. ive seen it. I dont care if you believe me or not. this movie is really good. great. Watch it with an open mind. You might find something out.
`Se7en or Sixth Sense?.......2001-07-23
Premonition is a good thriller in the line of Se7en but with a something like The Sixth Sense, also it has a good cast and direction.
"I have a bad Premonition about this.".......2000-08-15
Originally titled "Convergence," "Premonition" seems like a brainchild of Chris Carter, or something of a homage to his creations, "The X-Files" and "Millennium." It is a supernatural thriller on the order of "End of Days" and "Stigmata," and it's just as bad as both.
The movie follows two tabloid journalists searching for the next big story. Christopher Lloyd plays Morley Allen, the skeptical Fox Mulder (from the fifth season of "The X-Files") who specializes in the extraordinary and the supernatural. Like Mulder, he's searching for the Truth: What is the Reason, the Purpose, the Answer? Lloyd has more than a passing resemblance to Lance Henriksen's Frank Black of "Millennium" with his dark clothing, dour demeanor and permanent scowl. Perhaps Henriksen had better things to do than reprise a similar role.
The second journalist is Ali Caine, played by Cynthia Preston. Her innocent beauty belies a shady and mysterious past that even she has a hard time understanding. Unlike Dana Scully to Mulder or Emma Hollis to Black, Ali is a poor counterpoint to Morley. She is the vulnerable victim of the horror genre, the stereotypical blonde in distress.
In their investigations, the two encounter a institutionalized boy, who can foresee the deaths of people, and a man (Adrian Paul) obsessed with death who finds beauty in the lifeless form. Somehow there is a connection or a convergence that links these four characters. But, in the end, nothing makes sense.
Faced with all the facts at the conclusion, even Morley echoes my sentiments when he says, "I just don't understand." And I can hear the director's defense when John (Blu Mankuma), Morley's friend and the local coffee shop owner, replies, "There's nothing to understand. It just is."
As it is, "Premonition" is not a good movie. It tries very hard to be creepy with its musical score and its bleak-gray photography of an always-raining Seattle (coincidentally, the original setting of "Millennium"). Even the voice-over narration attempts to give the movie a film noir feel. But in all cases, "Premonition" fails. After all, what can you expect from a movie that sums up its premise with "There's nothing to understand. Understanding [doesn't] really matter."

NOT BAD.......2006-11-11
well, for me this is Santana 'lite'. This is not the Santana I grew up with. Of course the musicians are good and the DVD is pretty good overall but it lacks bite. Is it any wonder the masses ate up the CD of the same name?! Easily digestible, just the way most people like their music. I laugh when I hear that Supernatural was Santana's 'comeback' CD, as if he actually went away. He never stopped making music, it was the audience who went away and then came back. Give Carlos credit though, for hooking up with the artists he did because that gave him wider appeal, hence the massive sales. I'll always have a soft spot for Carlos but I prefer the Santana that recorded their first 3 CDs. For me....THAT...was Santana!
PRETTY GOOD!.......2006-03-12
CARLOS SANTANA HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE BEST,LEGENDARY,TALENTED GUITARRISTS EVER,THE ALBUM "SUPERNATURAL" WASN'T THAT GREAT BUT THIS VIDEO IS WAY BETTER.
Last review is a little harsh!.......2006-01-02
This is a very entertaining concert from start to finnish!
As Wayne Shorter says, it's all about diversity.
I have watched it many times and am always moved.
Superbad.......2003-12-05
The Music track on the concert is the worst I have ever heard. The DVD does have 4 videos that are great. Not worth the money or the time to watch it. I am surprised the artist let this be released?

Evil has a name and its name is Dylan.......2007-05-12
Maybe Dylan isn't his name. Maybe its Bob. Whoever it is, he is still a whimp compared to damien. Have you seen this movie? I am watching it now so I don't really know what its about yet. I will now watch it instead of writing this stupid review. Was this review helpful to you? Probably not.
Have you heard the one about the lady who had the Devil Baby?.......2006-03-16
Laura Harris (The Faculty, Mighty Wind) plats Kristie St. Clair marrys Marc St. Clair, played by Richard Lintern (Syriana, Starlings) and winds up having a son Dylan St. Clair, played by Alex Roe (The Fugitives the TV Series). The Son later soon possses greater powers beyond the eye can see and Harris is subjected to trying to find out what the hell is going on as things turn on her. Carmac, played by Francis Magee (The Bombmaker, Butterfly Man) tells Harris that there is something wrong with her son and so on and so forth. Not much here, lacks energy and interest with dull characters, bad acting and bad writing. By the end I knew that the Carmac character played her...you could see it coming a mile away. This also wasted Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact, upcoming Silent Hill) as well. Also starring John Standing (V For Vendetta, A Good Woman). Skip this and watch something else. Tries to hard to be other movies (Rosemary's Baby, Damien...so forth)
DAMIEN WHERE ARE YOU?.......2004-01-15
THE CALLING is a movie that pleasantly surprised me. Obviously it is the Omen brought into the twenty-first century. The movie is dark and foreboding, but the cinematography is lush and gorgeous. Laura Harris as the doomed Mom is convincingly baffled, shocked and devastated. Richard Lintern as the surrogate father from hell is handsomely sadistic and suave; the gorgeous Alice Krige (from Ghost Story) is appropriately sardonic and bewitching; and the little boy who plays Dylan makes Damien look like a boy scout. Throw in the gentleman who plays the mysterious Cormac and you have a cast of mysterious proportions. The movie moves well and has quite a stunning finale. It's not as good as THE OMEN but it's better than its two sequels.
A surprise winner.
I'm Calling It 'Decent'.......2003-11-15
This surprised me. I thought it was going to be garbage. Thankfully, it wasn't. As someone has said previously, it takes bits from The Omen, Rosemary's Baby, and I would add The Wicker Man. So, it isn't too original. The acting, though, is quite good, especially Laura Harris, who has an uncanny resemblance to Jennie Garth. To the person who said they couldn't believe they'd wasted two hours on this -- you overslept, 'cause the movie is only 89 minutes long.
If you like "The Omen", give this DVD a try.......2002-07-06
First of all, Artisan released this title without any special features (just a theatrical trailer) and presented in Full screen and 2.0 Dolby Surround only. But the DVD surround sound is quite good and the full screen picture is fine.
The story about young woman who believe her son is the "antichrist" but no one else believe her. There is a nice plot twist at the end of the movie that I didn't see it coming. It really enhanced the level of enjoyment. This 2000 movie is far better that the 2 big budget movies with similar theme that came out in 2000 (Bless the child with Kim Basinger, and Lost souls with Winona ryder).
If you like OMen type of movie, this DVD will not disappoint you. Highly recommended.
