The tenacious odyssey of Dream Theater culminates in one of their finest concerts ever on this magnificent Score: 20th Anniversary World Tour DVD. Just how good is this blazing prog-metal performance, recorded at New York City's radio City Music Hall on April 1, 2006? For starters, it's easy to believe the band's drummer and co-founder, Mike Portnoy, when he ends the nearly three-hour show by saying "this was one of the best nights of our career." Then consider that for one brief but shining moment in mid-September 2006, Score nudged Pink Floyd's Pulse out of the #1 spot on the bestselling music DVD charts, proving without a doubt that DT's loyal fan base was more than willing to elevate the band to an unprecedented level of critical and commercial success. It's a win-win scenario for everyone, because it's obvious, from this performance and the Octivarium CD that spawned it, that Score represents 20 years of bold perseverance, and the sheer power of combined talents against the fickle forces of a music industry that repeatedly tried, and failed, to compromise Dream Theater's unique creative vision.
For longtime fans, Score offers an abundance of material that's exclusive to this release, with minimal crossover from previous Dream Theater DVDs. "The Spirit Carries On" is a natural highlight, and James LaBrie's vocals are as pristine here as they are throughout the entire concert. But there can be little doubt that this gig will be best remembered for the flawless performances of the DT epics "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence," "Octivarium," and a jaw-dropping encore rendition of "Metropolis," all spectacularly accompanied by the Octivarium Orchestra under the baton of arranger and conductor Jamshied Sharifi. These massive arrangements have been beautifully mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital or equally crisp PCM stereo, and each member of Dream Theater is given ample opportunity to demonstrate their virtuoso skills, including several transcendent solos by guitarist John Petrucci and keyboardist Jordan Rudess (the latter proving his mastery of the lap steel guitar, vintage Moog synthesizer and the curiously amazing Continuum Fingerboard). Of course, one must never underestimate the awesome bass foundation laid by John Myung, whose priceless contribution is sonically ever-present, if not always visually apparent. As directed by Portnoy, however, Score is totally focused on the music, gracefully and unobtrusively covering the concert from a variety of visually advantageous angles, and edited (by Chris Osterhus) to follow every beat, transition, and solo with breathtaking precision. All in all, Score is easily on par with Pulse, and arguably surpasses the Floyd DVD in terms of overall performance. It's a godsend for fans, and a perfect introduction for the band's ever-growing audience of new and converted fans. -- Jeff Shannon
On the DVD
"The Score So Far" is an outstanding documentary that fully chronicles Dream Theater's history from its earliest days (when Portnoy, Petrucci, and Myung met at Boston's Berklee College of Music) to the Radio City concert on April 1, 2006. Personnel changes are candidly addressed (as opposed to some bands, DT don't hide their past difficulties, and credit is always given when due), and the film serves as a tribute to the band's refusal to bow to commercial pressures. (It's no wonder Mike Portnoy feels a gratifying sense of vindication; after 20 years, he and his bandmates fully deserve it.) Also included is the amusing "Octivarium Animation" shown during the concert, and three live performances (from 1993, 2002 and 2005) that further illustrate Dream Theater's ability to refine and/or redefine its sound and image while keeping up with the times. --Jeff Shannon

You'll watch this over and over again. .......2007-06-27
This baby will never make it to my media storage unit. I've had it for about 3 weeks, and I've watched all the way through it about 6 times, and bits and pieces almost every night. I have no idea how it is that I missed this band over the years. I actually learned about them when this very same concert aired on PBS a couple of months ago. Now, they are at the top of my favorites heap.
DT's musicianship and band synergy is as good as it gets, and it is so obvious from this particular concert. Each member is the best at what they do, and together, they are greater than the sum of the parts.
I highly recommend this DVD.
woof.......2007-06-01
I thought I'd get this dvd as a way to remember their concerts. but you know, I find myself just enjoying the dvd about as much as the concert. we all know DT has technique, but add to that their individual musicianship and collective umph...
Pleasant surprise.......2007-05-13
Back in the early 90's I bought a Dream Theatre Cd "Images and Words" not knowing anything about it. It quickly became my favorite CD. Well, time passed and just recently I pulled out that CD and listened again and I thought "wow" these guys were really really good and started listening to it all over again. And then I thought, "I wonder if these guys did anything after that?" I searched Amazon and discovered that indeed these guys had been very active over the years. I decided to get there most recent CD "Octavarium" and was completely blown away by it. Then I decided to get this DVD. And I cannot say enough about how good it is. I thought prog rock had pretty much died and then I see this and realize that Dream Theatre has kept it alive and growing. 5 Big stars for this DVD and Dream Theatre in general.
Very Good.......2007-05-09
If you are a Dream Theater fan you oughta have it, this is an excellent concert, with the best muscician that you could hear. It's recomended
One More Time.......2007-03-12
Like Styx, how many live cd's do you as a band need to come out with. The song selection on this DVD is different than the others so that makes it worth the money. They bring some out from the vault, especially Raise the Knife from the Falling into Infinity sessions. The addition of the orchestra on the second half is nothing special because so many other bands have done this. Overall, I still like Live at Budokan the best. But, like I always say it's just a metter of opinion. If you're a Dream Theater fan then you probably already own this. If you're still debating then don't wait anymore. Great music from a great band.

Great product for price.......2007-07-03
22 hours of poker for almost nothing. It's funny listening to the commentary as Mike and Vince make some miscalls and seem like rookies. They also talk to you like you know nothing about poker.
Excellent.......2007-05-07
WPT tour is great period. Better witout commericals. Why don't they come out with the last couple of seasons??? anyway, this is a must buy for the poker fan.
A "Semester" at "Poker U. for $30.......2007-01-01
For a real student of the game, this and other collections are a must. Play them through and enjoy. Then play them again and listen to Sexton's insightful commentary. Then play them through again and analyze each hand. How would you play each hand? Play again and note the psychology in play. Look for the bluffs, tells, and reverse psychology.
This is a good month's worth of study if you do it right. Study. Learn.
my wife can't stand it but i love this show.......2006-05-09
ok so i have seen most of the shows before but this is the best set i have seen. like many,i'm new to the world of poker but i have fallen in love with the game and this show. the players are just as intresting as any actors in hollywood. this set is also very helpful for people learning the game. go "all in" and get this great set.
Poker Entertainment.......2005-05-22
Like most of us who enjoy poker, if it is on, I am watching. Season 2 of the World Poker Tour was the most exciting, as prize pools escalated to record numbers. You get all of the exciting tournaments to watch anytime you like. I have watched all of the DVDs over a dozen times and they are still fun to watch. My favorite BONUS in this DVD set is the added commentary in 4 of the tournaments, 2 with Daniel Negreanu and Erick Lindgren and 2 with Antonio "the magician" Esfandiari and Phil "the unabomber" Laak. The insights of these 4 professionals are worth the price of the entire set. Let's hope they do this in the 3rd season DVD set...hopefully in more of the tournaments too.
The only downside is the 8th DVD is just some poker tips and player profiles. It was not that great, but that is being really picky because also on the 8th DVD is an aftermath review of the WPT champuionship where Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke, and Phil Hellmuth break down why the losers lost, how the winner won, and the tells, body language, and mental breakdowns that occurred throughout the game.
This dvd set is the best I will buy this year unless season 3 comes out this year. I do not see how a poker fan would be disappointed. The final tables in season 2 were loaded with the greatest players ever to sit at a table and you get to sit there with them and look at their cards, judge their decisions, and root for your favorites, what could be better??
Hope this helped some of you.

The Queen of Pop has done it again and offered her fans and music impresarios alike a music performance to be remembered. Drowned World Tour--filmed in her home town of Detroit on August 26, 2001--is both an amazing pop concert and a visually stunning modern dance and multimedia piece encompassing all the recent incarnations of this chameleon-like performer. Never one to shy away from championing new styles in both clothes and music, Madonna is still as raunchy as on her Erotica tour, but Drowned World Tour also offers a much more effeminate and intelligent side to her performance, with a geisha/Japanese performance piece during such songs as "Frozen" and dressed as a Southern-belle line dancer during such songs as "Don't Tell Me." The Drowned World Tour, rumored to be her last live show, proves that Madonna still reigns supreme. --Nikki Disney, Amazon.co.uk

drowned world........2007-02-05
Not my favourite Madonna concert.
Although interesting , it isn't as good as previous tours like Blonde Ambition and The Girlie Show, both of which were brilliant.
Parts of it were excellent and what people have come to expect from Madonna.
The highlights being Impressive Instant, Beautiful Stranger, Ray of Light, Frozen, Nobody's Perfect, Don't tell me, La Isla Bonita, Holiday and Music.
Pretty good overall, and a good buy.
THIS IS WHAT I CALL SPECTACULAR!!!.......2006-12-08
I bought this DVD in 2002 When I was a ''beginner Madonna Fan''.
When I saw it for the first time I didnt really like it. Maybe I was too young to accept and understand such mature and sophisticated shows like this (I was 14), So I decided to place it on the shelf for a long long time.
And Today (after just watching the show again) I am really Shocked!!!
Its an amazing show with great technique and performance. The stage, the costumes, Madonna and even the Dancers are Great.
Never Under estimate This Womans Power, Even If you are not a fan You will enjoy it.
Madonna Knows what she's meant to be doing. And she's doing it at her BEST!!
very cool.......2006-08-31
I just recently came out as a Madonna fan after seeing the Confessions tour. I had so much fun, that I went back and bought all her other live DVDs. This one has a great look. I love how she designs each song. I appreciate the theatrical side of her. Some great performances here too.
Impressive Instant.......2006-08-06
I have always been a fan of Madonna, throughout her evolution as a performer. This tour shows a much grittier, more emotionally attached performer than has been seen before. That said, I've never considered her shallow. It's just she seems to look inside much more now than before, and her show reflects that, being an extension of her to be scrutinized. Her energy level throughout the show is wonderful, and she really seems to be giving it all she has all show long. Her voice is strong and clear, no matter how demanding the material. The material, actually, is where the most discussion has occured. Very few of her older hits make an appearance here, and many of her older fans felt somewhat cheated. Obviously she had three albums of material to catch folks up on, but not all choices made pleased all. The band itself is top-notch, and the back-up singers, Donna DeLory and Niki Harris, are wonderful here. Nothing or noone, however, can take your attention away from Madonna herself, and she still has all the right moves. The sound and picture here are outstanding, and you can still feel like you're in the middle of an actual concert, what with the crowd noise reverberating around you. I know this show didn't really please her long-term fans who would have liked more oldies, but her younger fans were very happy. All in all, this was a well-produced, well-rehearsed show, and the DVD is very worthy of being included in your DVD library.

Description
KODO has been exploring the limitless possiblities of the traditional Japanese drum, "Taiko" for over 30 years. In their pursuit of striving to take their theatrical art further, KODO has actively been seeking new collaborations with other musicians and mentors. One result of this can be seen in "One Earth Tour Special", a performance that has Tamasaburo Bando, one of Kabuki's most renowned performers, serving as artistic director. Under Tamasaburo's keen direction, KODO's aim is to reincarnate their performance, not just a mere improvement in quality, but to reinvent their performance with power and grace. It will show KODO's journey back to the basics of drumming to capture the beauty of simple movement. With sold our tours and over 500,000 units sold in the US, KODO will continue to captivate American audiences with the "One Earth Tour Special" release.

Drums of Japan.......2007-06-03
An excellent showing of the power of the drums and the strength and the skill needed to play these magnificent instruments. A glimpse into a very different side of the Japanese culture.
Impressive.......2006-06-30
Amazing playing. Both the sound and video are of excellent quality. Good variety of styles - I would recommend this dvd without hesitation.
Best watched with headphones on, lights out, and late at night.......2006-04-21
Having attended two recent Kodo concerts, with the great fortune of sitting front-row-and-center for their One Earth Tour performance in Philadelphia, I wasn't surprised when this DVD didn't faithfully recreate the primal `feel' and intense focus of a Kodo performance. Yet, when I tweak the viewing conditions to minimize distractions and outside sensory stimuli, I notice that many of the Eastern nuances of rhythm, precision timing, and economy of movement come into sharper relief. Yoshikazu Fujimoto's muscular performance on the monster odaiko is stunningly powerful (his facial expressions alone speak volumes) and by itself is worth the price of the DVD. Overall, this DVD does a very fine job of capturing the essence of Kodo (the Japanese word for `heartbeat').
Loved It!.......2006-03-18
This is a great DVD/CD package. I have seen the group live, and abd this DVD allowed me to see different pieces I hadn't seen before. The quality is outstanding, and ofcourse the group is just amazing. Very entertaining!
Enjoyment for the Uninitiated.......2006-03-17
Through the years, I've enjoyed listening to Oriental music from time to time. This DVD intoduced me to a form of entertainment I was previously ignorant of and found it most enjoyable. My son, who really likes drum presentations but has no appreciation for oriental music, also enjoyed this DVD.

Spectacular!.......2007-02-03
Wow!!!! I looooove this DVD (originally released in laser disc), amazing world tour. I think one of the best features in this dvd is the historical footage and videos. The setlist is absolutely great!
Holy Crap!.......2006-09-17
Wow, I have never seen such an energetic concert before. Everyone's having fun out there, and all his band mates are perfect in what they do. It's a shame he didn't reunite with them. They only problem is that they put footage of different arenas in one song. Like in Get Back, you first see Linda with this casual collared red shirt, and then it changes to this light blue jacket. Same goes with the drummer and Hamish. But the performance out-weighs that fault. This concert is like a dream Paul McCartney concert. I mean, Back in the US and Red Square was good, but the musicians weren't as talented as his old band. And back then Paul was younger, thus he had a lot more energy. I recommend this to any Beatles, Paul McCartney, or classic rock fan. This is a great concert film, maybe the best.

Memories and new energy.......2006-01-30
My favorite moments of the show were those that were objected to by another reviewer. Just goes to show that we all see things differently. I liked the news footage. It brought back memories. I liked seeing the girls scream for the Beatles, as they did back in 1964. It was a great connection to my teenage years. And I liked seeing the Vietnam footage. I found it emotional, bringing back a very emotional time.
I've heard almost all of the songs a thousand times, so they are tired for me. He had good energy on Live and Let Die, which also featured some news footage that I found strong. But the classics, Let It Be and Hey Jude, are really exhausted for me. If you haven't heard each of them a thousand times yet, you may still feel the power in those songs. They used to be everyone's favorites. These days I like a rocker like Can't Buy Me Love more, for its energy. Paul almost apologizes for singing it, saying he was told it's a great song to shake your thing to, but it really is a good rock and roll song.
They never did have their reunion, and they never will, not here on Earth. I like the message in the Commodores song Nightshift, and that's the only place we will ever see a Beatles reunion now.

It could have been done better........2007-01-03
The video is ok, the audio is not that good. If you want to crank some G N R play a cd.
The only official "original" gunners concert we'll get to see.......2006-06-08
My review is for the entire Use Your Illusion concert (both UYI I and II DVDs). I'm yet another massive Guns n' Roses fan. I have been for many years. I'm 24 now but back when the UYI tours were on, my parents wouldn't let a 9 year old go to their concert, especially given the lyrical content of many of their songs. Needless to say that when I saw this DVD of the concert featuring the "original" gunners, I had extremely high expectations. This was to be an up-close and personal view of the gunners doing what they do best (rock on!!) and we all know that we'll never see Axl teamed with Duff, Slash, Matt and Gilby again.
Before I bought this DVD I read almost all the other reviews of this concert on amazon. I instantly decided to take the plunge and buy both discs and see for myself what I thought. I agree with many comments made by fellow reviewers and disagree with many others, however I'd also like to add my own views.
Pros
* As stated earlier, this is my only chance to see a real gunners concert raw and uncut featuring the "original" lineup. (When I say "original" I'm refering to the lineup before Axl's new arrangement. Personally I prefer Izzy Stradlin as a rhythm guitarist to Gilby Clark.)
* The track selection is superp! While you can never please everyone I'd say that no critical songs were missed. Personal favourites of mine not performed include Don't Damn Me, Think About You and Coma.
* As expected, the band is amazing. Slash's solos are exceptional, both Gilby and Matt provide a great rhythm section and Duff provides the killer bass. I personally like the second half of Move to the City with the jazz section and the piano/Dizzy Reed's keyboards. I also love the raw rocking tunes. Double Talkin' Jive is amazing.
Cons
* No special features, ie bonus interviews (other than the footage at the start showing the band backstage).
* The sound quality could have been a bit better. I agree with other reviewers when they can't see why a concert from 1992 can't be remastered in Dolby 5.1.
* Axl's voice is so unpredictable (he was hit and miss with many of the notes, ie Sweet Child O' Mine, You Could Be Mine). Even back then Axl's voice appears to be severly strained (sometimes he sounds like he has razor blades stuck in his throat).
* Other reviewers complain that the band lacked energy and the crowd was rather flat. While I'd say that the band seemed pretty energised to me, I'd love to know why out of all the concerts they could have chosen to record, they picked Tokyo (where the locals are pretty passive by nature).
All in all I'd say that the concert is very, very good but the DVD production could have been better. I would gladly have paid top dollar to be at that concert.
Finally, to all the people complaining that the concert was sold on 2 seperate DVD's, think of it this way, I spent $60 ($30 each disc) for a concert I can enjoy over and over again. Sounds like pretty good value to me.
Strong Performance (4.5).......2006-03-31
Contrary to several of these reviews, I personally think this is a great Live DVD of Guns n' Roses, offering a very solid performance on their Illusion World Tour. Far superior to the Illusion 2 DVD, this shows GNR playing classic "Appetite" songs with great rock fierce, as well as doing several cuts from Illusion albums and rocking out in all of them.
The show kicks off with an electrifying performance of "Nightrain", and the band is on the mark, with good lyrical deliveries from Axl and a good solo. "Live And Let Die" is also an excellent performance with the band in good sound. "Mr. Brownstone" and "It's So Easy" are heavy Appetite tracks performed with great intensity, the latter being the better of the 2 performances. Axl gives an awesome delivery for "It's So Easy" at the end. I consider "Bad Obsession" to be the worst performance on here, but it is okay. Duff McKagan pioneers "Attitude" giving the vocals. "Pretty Tied Up" has some great moments with Slash shining on the guitar, and Dizzy Reed's background piano sounding perfect in this song. It drags on too long though. Gilby Clarke (Izzy Stradlin's replacement for the remaineder of the tour) and Slash perform "Wild Horses" by Rolling Stones. "Double Talkin' Jive" is pure fiery rock, with the whole band jamming for a good minute before gearing into the track. "Don't Cry" is a very nice performance, with the transition from Slash's guitar to Axl's voice sounding sensational. "Civil War" is one of the heaviest performances in the set and the guitar riffs are exceptional. "Patience" is definitely one of my favourite performances on here, and was probably Axl's best performance of the night. "November Rain" closes out very well, and Axl begins it with a 3 minute piano impromptu.
Overall, this is in my opinion a very solid performance from the band, however simply would not appeal to casual fans of GNR. This is specifically for diehards only. You really have to appreciate the pure raspiness of Axl's voice and the ugly playing of the group to enjoy this DVD. Recommended to big fans of the group.
Recorded in '92 using '29 technology.......2005-10-08
OK, I am definitely a GNR fan. But Geez, this is cheesy. I can look past the Nigel Tufnel Shorts with the "armadillos in our trousers" look. I'm totally impressed with the Richard Simmons-esque running about the stage that Axl Does - I'd be pretty damned out of breath too if I tried it. Too bad I'd be forgetting my primary job, which would be singing. I can look past all of that. It's a great set list, great setting. It's even filmed pretty decently, with camera men and an editor who don't need Ritalin. Overall, I think the band puts on a pretty damn good performance.
My biggest gripe is the sound. It sounds like an audience recording. Worse, it sounds like someone recorded it from a nearby high rise (Tokyo has a lot of those) on their chicklet-sized cell phone. After about eight transfers, it made it onto DVD. Come on, the only soundtrack is Dolby Stereo? From 1992? Gimme a break! I have The Who, Black Sabbath, and Marshall Tucker DVDs from a decade and a half before that are in 5.1. This DVD had me checking all my wiring and the power to my subwoofer to see if everything was OK. Wanna know what the sound on this DVD is like? Go wear a pair of earmuffs and sit in your car and listen to the audio CD.
I guess for 9 bucks I can't complain TOO much. It's just SO frustrating considering how good and enjoyable this could have been were it recorded properly.
Could have been a little better, but not bad.......2005-09-22
I was very glad to see a Guns N' Roses concert DVD come out. We all know how GN'R have been left in ruins, and it is always nice when an old band releases DVDS of them in concerts. This is a direct transfer from an original VHS tape that was released in 1992,and the producer of this DVD did a pretty good job at transferring the original VHS performance to DVD.
The DVD itself? Could have been a little better, but not bad. A little dull at times, but the good parts are really good. There are no bonus interviews on this DVD,but you do see an introduction that is behind the scenes before the actual concert starts and a couple behind the scenes looks after a performance. Good work there. The performances of "Nightrain","Mr. Brownstone",a cover of the Paul McCartney/Wings classic "Live and Let Die","Attitude"(a Misfits cover),and "Patience" are a little bit boring, but performances of songs like "It's So Easy","Welcome To The Jungle","Don't Cry","Double Talkin' Jive","Pretty Tied Up","November Rain",and "Civil War" are all really good good performances. Axl Rose shows off his talent as a showman during the performances of "It's So Easy" and "Civil War",and "Double Talkin' Jive" leading into "Civil War" sounds(as well as looks) just plain awesome. Don't expect the crowd in this DVD to keep up the excitement during performances of songs on here(some of which are on Guns N' Roses' "Live Era" record),and while this DVD would have been better if the crowd acted excited, the DVD itself is still alright. Don't expect to see "Sweet Child O' Mine","You Could Be Mine",etc. performed live, but a DVD that shows Guns N' Roses supporting UYI2 in Japan was also released,so buying that DVD along with this one would be a good supplement to this DVD(and both of them are sort of Guns N' Roses greatest hits--hits and fan favorites--live and in concert on a DVD). The best thing about this DVD is that even though the special feautures do pop up right after a performance of a song before you see the next song that is performed, you can go to the menu, click on the song selection, and then pick the performance of the song that comes up right after the performance of the last song you saw,and then you don't have all that much to complain about. An improvement from the original VHS release that came out in 1992.
Become a die hard Guns N' Roses fan before you purchase this DVD,but despite it's faults, this is a decent DVD. I recommend getting it cheap and used, but except for the weak parts of this DVD,this is a good purchase for die hard Guns N' Roses fans.

A Dixie Chicks in-the-round stadium concert is a visually bold and captivating enterprise, one quickly discovers watching Top of the World Tour. An unusual record of the rousing band's 2003 sweep through giant North American venues, Top of the World freely mixes and matches images culled from multiple shows, demonstrating how Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, and Martie Maguire electrify cavernous spaces as surely as they do smaller ones. Still, size doesn't matter where the Chicks' full-bodied, engaging bluegrass, anthemic country pop, and flat-out rock is concerned. "Longtime Gone" and "Tortured, Tangled Hearts" sound like the polished but authentic roots music one expects from the Chicks. "If I Fall You're Going Down with Me" is a flavorful rocker, while the feminist anthem "Wide Open Spaces" still gets women hopping in the aisles. In a quieter vein, the moody, powerful "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)" hushes the masses like nothing else. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
There's a reason there's so many bad reviews of this DVD..........2007-06-26
and it has nothing to do with politics or country music bashers stopping by to drop a 1 star bomb. Simply put, this thing is horrendously edited.
The decision was made by someone on the production team to shoot several cities (I believe about 12 based on a section where you see Natalie saying "Well, helllllooooo (name of city here)" to various audiences.) on the Top of the World tour and use footage from each. That wouldn't be an issue if they selected, say, the best performance of "Sin Wagon" from the 12 and used it in full. But what they choose to do is slice shots from EACH performance and slap 'em together.
This gives you the equivalent of a 90 minute music video and it is extremely tiring to watch. You're watching Natalie in a black top under a blue spotlight, suddenly the perspective changes and Natalie's now in a Nudie shirt under a yellow spotlight.
BOTTOM LINE:
Everyone complaining about this video is correct. It's not the Chicks' fault, it's bad editing. While I can't vouch for AN EVENING WITH yet (still waiting to get it from NetFlix) I CAN tell you this is a definite waste of hard-earned money. Do NOT buy this.
Dixie Chicks - Top of the World Tour Live.......2007-05-13
The product is what I expected. It arrived on time and in the condition advertised.
Dixie Chicks Concert Film.......2007-05-13
First, I am an unabashed, doting fan of the Dixie Chicks--I love their songs, and I love their feisty attitude, their superb musicianship, and of course, their right-on politics and moral courage in the face of hysterical abuse from brainless rednecks...
Nevertheless, this concert film was a bit of a bore. The performances are, as always, superb--just seeing these three dynamic, enthusiastic ladies interact joyfully on stage and get down with their fiddle and banjo is a pleasure in itself. But the editing tricks, whereby various clips of performances of each song are spliced together so that the staging and costumes seem to change with each new line, are quite distracting and irritating. I realize that concert films have a limited range of cinematic possibilities, but I would have preferred that each song be recorded all the way through at a given venue, before switching to another. And I would have liked to see the performances interspersed with a few informal shots of these ladies getting on and off tour buses, interacting with crowds, or simply chilling and chatting in the green room before a performance. Instead, the whole video is just one fragmented performance after another.
If you want a really good Dixie Chicks video, get their documentary, "Shut Up and Sing," not this one (even though "Shut Up and Sing" lacks complete performances of any of their songs). I hope, however, that someone does a video that blends concert performances with narrative--more like the recent Bob Dylan documentary that Scorsese did.
Picture Quality not good.......2007-02-22
I was suprised to find that this dvd is non anomorphic. For those of us with a 16:9 HD TV the PQ when upconverted is lacking. For a fairly new disc not to be "enhanced for 16:9" TVs is a crime.

Description
That force of nature called Lance Armstrong concluded his unique reign as the King of the Tour de France in a manner that in hindsight seems inevitable, though there were moments when the ending of this tale of fortitude and determination could not be foretold with certainty. The Tour itself, of course, will continue in all its glory. As Lance put it on the podium in Paris, "Vive le Tour. Forever!" But the cyclist who set a new standard of six consecutive wins last year and topped it with number seven in 2005 has retired from the world's most popular sport. What a way to go! Featuring extended coverage of the critical mountain stages, World Cycling Production's two DVD editions - four hours and 12 hours in length - are truly artifacts of history, to be watched intently many times, shared with friends, and treasured for all time. Talk about drama! There's the emergence of CSC's David Zabriskie, Lance's former teammate, edging Armstrong by nine seconds to win the prologue and wear the yellow jersey for three stages before crashing just before the finish in the team time trial and withdrawing from the Tour the next day. There's Lance's friend Ivan Basso, also a CSC rider, trailing him by less than three minutes for most of the race, and finishing second overall. There's the amazing, and then astounding, performance of Rabobank's Michael Rasmussen, who won the climber's jersey but plummeted from third overall to seventh after two crashes and three changes of bicycle in the final time trial. And, of course, ever threatening and supplying suspense, there's Jan Ullrich, who seemed to have the individual time trial in his pocket, until Armstrong, determined to win a stage as well as his seventh tour, pulled out all the stops and bested Ullrich's seemingly unbeatable time by 23 seconds. It was a feat that left the race commentators totally depleted of superlatives and thrilled viewers throughout the world.

History.......2007-07-09
Regardless of the audio or video, this is history. And for that reason alone it is worth buying this. I myself am really only a casual fan of cycling, but being able to watch The Tour is a wonderful pleasure; even if it is only the 12 hour version. Buy this; watch this; revel in Lance's utter dominance in this last Tour he rode in.
Magnificent 7 - but what about the first 6?.......2007-01-15
I bought this collection for my husband, an avid Lance Armstrong/Tour de France fan. He has really enjoyed it, so I feel it was a great success. But I have to admit that I thought it would include footage and commentary from all seven of Lance's Tour de France victories, plus details about his life and his fight with cancer. It only detailed his seventh victory, the 2005 Tour. Nevertheless, I am glad I purchsed it; although for the money, it would have been nice for it to include a bit more. Thank you!
Good Overall Recap of the '05 TdF.......2006-07-09
Very nice dvd for those who wish to relive the great moments of the 2005 Tour. Many who may have watched on OLN will recognize the footage, b/c it's basically the exact footage from the OLN broadcasts. Not a bad thing in that, since Phil Ligget and Paul Sherwin do a great job commenting.
A couple of notes:
- I was a bit disappointed in the "Extras." There are 2 Bonus Features on each DVD but 1 is always just a menu to buy other Cycling/TdF merchandise.
- Good coverage of other riders and action that didn't involve Lance.
- On the other hand, there were some instances where more coverage of Lance/Discovery Team (or even leading contenders and their teams) would've been appropriate. I seem to recall long segments focusing on breakaway riders of little consequence, which was interesting to a point but somewhat boring. Where was the peleton? What were the top contenders and their teams doing?
- Why not shorten that coverage and show the Team Time Trial of CSC, T-Mobile, and Discovery in its entirety?? There was barely any footage of what was a spectacularly exciting race. Also, for the last stage, we mostly get a few laps in Paris. I would've liked to have seen the Discovery Team riding en route in their "victory" line-up, Lance riding thru the throng of team cars thanking the other sporting directors, etc.
- Yes, the sound quality isn't good. The volume on my set fluctuated from loud to normal (yet sounding like the announcers were in a tunnel).
Still, a very good dvd to have if you're a Lance, Discovery, or overall cycling fan.
a religeous event.......2006-07-05
Reading the other comments, I agree they didnt do the best on the sound but in a way the background noise adds atmosphere to the whole event. Its still an awesome event, you get to see a lot more of the countryside nd amazing places they travel through than on the four hour, more uninterupted coverage of crucial stages especially the amazingly scenic mountain stages. its a riveting watch, probably the most action packed of Lances tours. Vinokourov has to be seen to be belived, that boy just doesnt give up attacking. This is a must for any fan of endurance sport. I don't cycle but that doesnt stop its appeal. It transcends beyond just being about cycling, like all endurance sport its about striving and suffering and overcoming
Great DVD.......2006-01-24
The audio is fine. It's the same quality of what we saw live on OLN. Sure it's spotty at times, but it's not as bad a some of the reviews make it sound like.

Fun to see Scorpions again.......2007-05-12
I love the Scorpions and didn't realize that they were still around - I never seem to hear anything about them or their new music on the radio. Recently I was looking for one of their older video recordings, From Russia With Love, and I found this one instead. I've just about worn out my Savage Crazy World DVD so I decided to get this one and I thinks its great for anyone who has enjoyed the Scorpions in the past or is just discovering them. This band can still rock and I think they have a good lineup: Klaus Meine still sounds fantastic and the new drummer is great as are Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs. When the Savage Amusement recording was released I had the world's biggest crush on Matthias Jabs but I guess thats really beside the point. Anyway, I really like the mix of old songs and new. The crowd is really into the music and the Scorpions put on a great show. I'd love to see them; this disc has me hoping they come back to the US soon.

Unbreakable world tour 2004:One night in Vienna (SCORPIONS) DVD.......2006-11-23
One thing I learn about reading some reviews is that is not allways the case, you have to be a fan first and then the critic, reviewers have different taste in music was it the video? was it the audio?this is an example I won't even mention the reviewer's name but this is what happened keep in mind that every reviewer deserves respect first of all,He gave Michael Schenker a low star score but he gave Madonna 5 stars so you see he wasn't a guitar player fan,in the case of this DVD I think it was a pretty good DVD for the concert the videos and the interesting interviews I kind of balance the reviews and most important to check the profiles first before you make the decision to buy the item or not!
MUST HAVE DVD FOR ALL SCORPIONS FANS!!!.......2006-04-03
I JUST LOVED THIS DVD. MOST CONCERT DVD ONLY FOCUS ON THE SINGERS AND GUITAR PLAYERS. I REALLY LOVE THIS ONE SINCE THEY EVEN SHOW GREAT SHOTS OF THEIR DRUMMER JAMES KOTTAK!! HE IS THE BEST DRUMMER SINCE SLICED BREAD! HE PUTS ON A SHOW BY HIMSELF! ALL THE SONGS ARE GREAT AND THE PICTURE SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT THERE IN THE FRONT ROW! HAVE NEVER SEEN A CONCERT DVD LIKE THIS BEFORE!
I'm so DIZZY!!.......2006-03-30
I sell music DVDs and I have to agree with the 1 star because of the fact the camers would not stop at one person. I was so dizzy after I watched the DVD I had a migrain! if you can handle being on a boat feeling sick, go for it. By the way the sound was good.

Great purchase along with the Use Your Illusion I DVD.......2007-06-21
This is a good DVD if you are into something beyond just performances of songs you're familiar with. Where UYI I DVD was mostly performances of some of the best songs of Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I, on this DVD you get a more personal look at each of the band members and they (everyone from Dizzy Reed and Gilby Clark to Slash and Duff)showcase their individual talents. Most DVDs tend to cut past these parts, which tend to be the most enjoyable part of such concerts.
While there weren't any songs I simply didn't like, I'll admit I fast forwarded through the drum solo until Duff and Slash came on stage. Matt Sorom is an OK drummer, but I've definitely seen and heard better solos than his, which went way too long. Highlights for me are Theme from The Godfather, which I actually wasn't familiar with but it was really well done, So Fine (it was great hearing Duff sing together with Axl on this slower song), Rocket Queen (interesting "rap" a la Axl in the middle), Knockin on Heaven's Door, and Estranged (really a beautiful performance of one of GNR's best songs).
Some people complain about the crowd, but for those familiar with concerts in Japan, this crowd is pretty typical. They're not rowdy like the crowds at American and European shows; the best way to describe them is "polite." It didn't really bother me and I thought the band did a great job keeping up the energy and show Tokyo a great time.
I won't complain about Axl's voice because what can you expect when he's screaming his heart out for nearly an hour and a half?? Of coarse he's going to sound a bit hoarse here and there. As for the rest of the band, I thought they sounded even better than on CD.
The only thing things missing from the DVD are bonus features such as more behind the scenes clips of the band, interviews, etc. Also, the sound quality is basically just like what you'd hear on a VHS.
Ritz in NY 1988 is the only thing worth having.......2006-06-15
why why WHY dont they release something from the 80's? totally bogus. I turned this thing off 1/3 thru it, Axl running all over the place in his little shorts, talking /shouting the words like Mick Jagger in concert, lame. is the last 2/3's worth it? like is said in here, I dont know, sold it the day after I watched it. how can it be? how can the show get better with Axl running all over in those shorts? no way.
WARNING - this is only half of the concert- but what a half it is.......2005-12-25
This is hard to belive, but this DVD is only for the second half of the concert - the first half is the Use Your Illusion 1 DVD.
That bizare fact aside, this is a beatiful concert.
The band are on form, and look like they're making an effort i.e. they're not completely wasted (probably because the concert was being recorded for 2 seperate videos).
The solos are great, especially Matt's, being accompanied by (an unusually sober) Duff Rose on timpani.
Slash delights with his legendary guitar skills - I especially liked the Sweet Child guitar solo, which was played to perfection, and had this massive superdome rocking in unison.
I also liked the performance of Move to the City, which includes great little funky instrumentals, including Ted on organ, Dizzy on piano, and the 3 piece horn section.
There is also, of course, a very rare performance of Estranged, which is a very special treat indeed.
At the interval before the encore, you can see the delight on peoples faces, and feel the electricity in the arena, which reminds you (not that you need reminding) that you are watching a band of mythic proportion, performing a stunning concert.
Even better than the UYI1 Concert DVD.......2005-10-12
The Guns N' Roses DVD that shows GN'R live in Tokyo in 1992,supporting their "Use Your Illusion II" record,is a great DVD,and it is even better than the UYI1 concert DVD. This is a transfer from an original VHS tape, the transfer doesn't look sloppy here, and the first time I saw this concert,it was even better than I thought it would be.
The DVD and the concert themselves? Both are not perfect, but both are very solid. After you get a behind the scenes look at Guns N' Roses backstage, the show opens with "You Could Be Mine",and this DVD shows GN'R performing songs off of AFD,Lies,UYI1,and UYI2,along with the theme from Francis Ford Coppala's hit film "The Godfather" and a drum solo from Matt Sorum,a guitar solo from Slash, and a timpani solo from Duff McKagan. Sorum's solo,Slash's solo, and McKagan's solo are all amazing,as well as GN'R's cover version of "The Godfather" theme. The audience in this DVD(same audience in the UYI1 concert DVD)actually act excited here and keep this concert/DVD exciting and entertaining, unlike the UYI1 concert DVD,which was good but didn't show a very enthusiastic audience.
The rest of this DVD(past "You Could Be Mine",the drum and guitar solo, and "The Godfather" theme)is pretty much a well planned supplemnet to the UYI1 concert DVD--this DVD/concert feautures live performances of songs that were NOT on the UYI1 concert DVD,and while you won't see "Welcome To The Jungle" or "November Rain" performed live here, you can get the UYI1 concert DVD for both of those things(you have to give the setlist on both the UYI1 concert DVD and the UYI2 concert DVD a lot of credit, since there is not overkill of live performances of AFD songs and since the DVDS have live performances of songs that one of the two DVDS didn't,as well as the fact that a DVD for a UYI1 concert and a UYI2 concert were both released). The jazzed up versions of Guns N' Roses' cover version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and the original GN'R tune "Move To The City" are both awesome and the highlights of this DVD,while Axl Rose and Duff McKagan do a nice duet of "So Fine",a jazz influenced song off of UYI2 that McKagan wrote as a tribute for Johnny Thunders. Even though drugs, alcohol, arrogance, and big egos had already been going on in Guns N' Roses for a while when the concert on this DVD was filmed, you can watch this concert and tell that everybody who was in GN'R(Axl,Slash,Duff,Matt,Dizzy Reed, and Gilby Clarke)when this concert was filmed were having a good time onstage.
As for the question of special feautures here, there are no bonus interviews,BUT,besides the one "bonus" thing I already mentioned at the top of this review,a Japanese TV interview with Slash that was conducted around the time this concert was shot do appear a couple of times,so you can't go wrong with either one of those things(if you don't want the
"bonus feautures" right before and/or during the concert on this DVD,you can go to the menu and select an actual song, unlike you could with the original VHS tape). An improvement from the original VHS tape of this concert.
If you are a die hard Guns N' Roses fan, this DVD is a must buy. If you are a new or casual GN'R fan, then you should become a die hard GN'R fan before you purchase this DVD,but what you have here is a great concert on a great DVD,and now hopefully a Guns N'Roses DVD from the AFD era and/or the Lies era will be released on DVD(although you can get GNR's Ritz Show for Appetite off of Ebay, well, the last time I checked at least).
