I saw K.D. Lang in person in May of 2005. She was great, & has the most beautiful voice. Very energetic. She had the crowd in her hands. Also got her autograph & some pictures. The DVD is awesome. When she sings Crying, you shiver.

5 out of 5 stars k d defines versatility 'live' and has an affecting voice.......2005-09-11

k d 'sings all kinds' as Tony Bennett says of her . This DVD shows a singer who revels in live performance and knows how to connect with an audience . She makes you a part of the show and having seen her live with Tony back in 2003 I look forward to the next time .

k d lang sings rock/pop , country and jazzy numbers . Other songs I could only classify as being in 'her' style . She is obviously a sensual person and that could be part of the act , but I believe it is her enjoying being herself .

Her voice affects me like Aretha Franklin's and I believe that is the main reason to listen to any singer - to get that goosebump feeling on your skin .

Take a chance on this DVD and enjoy k d 's artistry .
k d lang is an artist - fully deserving of the description .

5 out of 5 stars This woman's voice is U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E.......2004-03-29

YOU MUST EXPERIENCE THIS. Undoubtedly one of the top top top voices ever! I HAVE HARDLY EVER HEARD A VOICE SO STONG, EXPRESSIVE, AND GIFTED ---- she's up there with CELINE DION, ETTA JAMES, KAREN CARPENTER, WHITNEY HOUSTON, YMA SUMAC, MARIAH CARAY, ARETHA FRANKLIN, AGNETHA FALTSKOG, and even MARIA CALLAS! The great thing is that sge has characteristics of all these voices at times. She is perhaps the most dimesional voice EVER!

5 out of 5 stars Beyond Diva.......2002-06-12

Being a female singer does not automatically qualify one to be a "diva". All of those VH1/MTV diva shows have made the term synonymous with "run-of-the-mill". Too bad, because there is a REAL Diva out there, worthy of the accolade.

Enter k d lang. I saw her live shortly after the release of Ingenue. Her show is in the top five of my 35 years as an avid concert attendee. She is surpassed only by Springsteen. Ms.lang is the only performer I've seen that is able to hold an audience so spellbound that no one would applaud for fear that we might miss the final utterance of her voice. When we were sure she was finished with a number, only then would the house be on their feet. A truly incredible experience.

"Live by Request" does a good job of capturing what I experienced. Watch her sing "Crying" or "COnstant Craving" and you're mesmerized. CAtch her Miss Chatelaine routine and you get a glimpse at her charm and humor. SHe does everything gracefully, without pretension. And every song comes from within her soul.

If you don't see kd live atleast treat yourself to this show. You will have the word "Diva" redefined once and for all.

A rapturous if occasionally frustrating experience, Bee Gees: Live by Request is the video release of a program that originally aired on cable television's A&E channel. While the brothers Gibb are more than happy to shake out a few numbers from their May 2001 album, This Is Where I Came In, the centerpiece of the show is a somewhat tiresome gimmick that finds the trio taking song requests via phone from excited fans who often chew up valuable time with rambling reminiscences. Still, the pop legends are able to lay out lush, highly polished versions of "I Started a Joke," "Jive Talkin'," and "How Deep Is Your Love," while short-changing other gems from the Bee Gees catalog in a throwaway medley. A visibly thrilled audience certainly enhances the fun, but this is really a show for the group's diehard (and most patient) fans. --Tom Keogh

This is a fine performance by the Bee Gees who perform "by request", probably the most difficult format for live performers. They play most of their songs and most fans might complain about various hits that were omitted. Still an enjoyable performance.

3 out of 5 stars Let the music play.......2004-12-08

This BeeGee DVD was originally recorded for a live TV broadcast. The Bee Gees perform great, but the flow and the build up that you usually experience during a concert, is CONTSTANTLY interrupted by a presenter who tends to turn eveything into a commercial TV spot. Questions like "what did you think when you had your first number one hit" brilliantly answered by Robin "Gee, our first number one hit".... Daft questions, ennoying interruptions, superficial presenting and constantly complimenting the BeeGee's (the Bee Gees dont need that constant sort of kissing up from a presenter) ... The MUSIC itself is great although the songs are all kept very short. Please, let concerts be concerts and interviews be interviews.

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent live performances.......2004-05-24

Alright, I admit the "phone in" gimmick is corny and a distraction, but you can simply fast forward the calls. Buy this for the music, which is absolutely gorgeous. The Bee Gees have always given stellar live performances, replicating their original records as close as possible. Well, I have news: this live performance beats any I have heard, it's *that good.* The Bee Gees, like McCartney, have always taken great pains to sing their songs live as closely as possible to the original. I appreciate this and their efforts to duplicate their classics here meet with much success. Particularly amazing is Robin's haunting, gorgeous vocal on "I Started a Joke," one of the great Bee Gees of all time. Similarly impressive is "New York Mining Disaster," which shows the brothers still had the ability to harmonize beautifully.

The only slight criticism is Barry's high notes and falsetto, which he strains to reach, especially on "Stayin' Alive." He's backed up with some invisible (and pre-recorded) mystery voices, but his ability to sustain the high notes has decreased with time. Personally, I don't care. This is an awesome live performance and for anyone who admires the brothers Gibb, this is something from which you'll derive hours of enjoyment.

    5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!.......2003-05-22

If you're a huge Bee Gees fan as I am, then you'll LOVE this DVD! It also brings about a new meaning since Maurice Gibb's death on January 12, 2003. Also, don't forget "One Night Only"! I've been a Bee Gees fan as long as I can remember, & these 2 DVDs are MUST HAVES for avid Bee Gees fans like myself :)

    LIVE BY REQUEST (ROGERS,KENNY)

    Amazon.com

Though a little older and a little more gruff, Kenny Rogers is still a charmer who knows how to rope in an audience and keep them happily captive. Kenny Rogers: Live by Request (2001) is an hour and a half of the country artist's greatest hits and audience favorites backed by a tight and smooth band. Starting with an upbeat "Islands in the Stream" (solo, no Dolly), he sets the pace for a lively, friendly show. Following the usual format of A&E's Live by Request series, fans from North America call in to talk to Kenny and ask him to sing a song for them. Seventeen songs are featured, including "Daytime Friends," "Lucille," "Lady," "Coward of the Country," "We've Got Tonight," "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," "Love Will Turn You Around," and, of course, "The Gambler." Kenny fans will adore this easygoing performance of popular tunes. --Dana Van Nest

5 out of 5 stars Live version. Either you will love it or hate it. This is my second favorite Kenny Rogers album........2006-10-13

First I just want to say that I'm a big fan of Kenny Rogers so I might be biased but I'll try to be objective.

This is the live version of his album. every song begin (on separate tracks) with an interview (or request by audience) by the MC about the next songs.

I've talked to several fans and they are split. some like it some doesn't like it but those who like it likes them a lot. so make sure you try them before you buy them.. if you don't like to listen to the introduction to the songs, you can burn to another CD (or Mp3 player) and skip all the introduction/request tracks.

I like the CD including the introduction tracks (between songs) because it makes me feel like I'm in the live concert. When I close my eyes, I can picture myself in the middle of Kenny Roger's concert (I know it's cheesy). Anyway, I'm listening to the CD now (it's playing Don't fall in love with a dreamer), while I'm writing this review. It's great.

the Pros (from those who likes it):
    1. It's different from the original, something fresh and new.
    2. Still the same great voice from Kenny though
    3. Feels live when listening
    4. Knows a bit more about Kenny Rogers (from the interview), his personality, and the history of each songs . Also some story/sharing from the requestor on why they request this songs.
    5. One or two songs are not released in any other CD

the Cons (from those who hates it):
    1. Not the original recording
    2. some shorter version of the songs (not complete songs. i.e. missing a verse etc)
    3. the request tracks between the songs are annoying

I personally like thi CD, it gives me something different (than all other Kenny Rogers CD), and it happen to have all (or almost all) the songs that I like. I would recommend people to get this CD.

For Kenny Roger's new fan, check out "21 Number Ones" album (this CD), "the greatest hit" album and the "Kenny Rogers live by request". Also check the new CD Water and Bridges. The song "I can't unlove you" is a hit.

Here are some of my all time Kenny Rogers favorite songs (almost all of them available in the "21 Number Ones" album. I call this list, Kenny Rogers essential:

    The Gambler
    Through The Years
    Lady
    Lucille
    Coward of The County
We've Got Tonight (with Sheena Easton)
    Crazy
Islands In The Stream (with Dolly Parton)
    She Believes In Me
    You Decorated My Life
Make No Mistake, She's Mine (with Ronnie Milsap)
    Daytime Friends
    Love Or Something Like It
    Love Will Turn You Around
    Morning Desire
    The Factory
    Twenty years ago
Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer (with Kim Carnes)
Ruby, Don't take your love to town
    Buried treasure
    I don't call him daddy
She's ready for someone to love her

    Updated Dec 15th:
I went to see Kenny Rogers live recently (his greatest hits and chrismas song concert.) I had a blast, simply amazing. I recommend all Kenny Rogers fans to visit his concert Live at least once. (We never know how many more years he will do his tour but I do hope for many more years to come)

5 out of 5 stars Kenny Rogers - Live by Request.......2006-08-30

This is one of my favourite DVD'S - I think its great. Despite the talking to the callers with their requests I found the stories Kenny spoke about interesting. Good band and Kennys song SLOW DANCE MORE a new song for me - gets replayed!!

5 out of 5 stars If you love Kenny...........2003-02-03

My Mom is a huge Kenny Rogers fan and I bought this for her. She loves it and I must admit that I enjoyed it alot. A great gift for any Kenny Rogers fan.

4 out of 5 stars Warm and perfect.......2002-11-23

kenny Rogers performed this concert on a warm environment between his fans and his music lovers. He is great, romantic, and very carismatic. The only drawback is that every request is considered as a unique track. I think it will be better to make it with only song tracks. On conclusion this is the only available DVD for this great singer. Sound format is 5.1 which make the DVD more valuable.

5 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must for Kenny Rogers Fans!.......2002-02-11

Whether you are a die-hard Kenny Rogers fan (like me) or a casual fan, you will enjoy this DVD. We have a home theater, and I was thrilled with the superb sound quality and crisp picture quality of this DVD. Having seen Kenny in concert many times, I really enjoyed the spontaniety of this concert as Kenny fielded caller requests, and told short, interesting anecdotes about each song before singing it. There are also a couple of great duets with Linda Davis. In addition, those 'in-the-know' can even catch some glimpses of Kenny's wife, Wanda, and her twin sister in the audience. My only criticism is that I would have loved to have some DVD bonus options, like behind-the-scenes, etc., but none are provided.

The filming angles and closeness make you feel just like you are there...not like some in-concert videos that are far away or grainy. Like I said, if you are a Kenny Rogers fan, this DVD is for you!

Chicago hasn't generated much in the way of headlines or controversy in the course of its decades-long existence. But what they have produced is an extraordinary number of hits--many more, in fact, than even this 92-minute, televised performance can accommodate. It's a track record that even those who dismiss Chicago's music as slick MOR pop can't ignore, and one that's underlined in this 2002 installment of A&E's Live by Request program. Celebrating their 35th anniversary (with four original members still on hand), the eight-piece band gives spirited performances of "Beginnings," "If You Leave Me Now," "Colour My World," and 13 others (including bonus tunes), inspired by a live audience and fans' phoned-in requests. Long-departed bassist Peter Cetera may be missed, but his lead vocals are ably replaced by guitarist Keith Howland and especially bassist Jason Scheff (an outstanding player whose dad, Jerry, played with Elvis Presley). All in all, a quality show by a band whose consistency and longevity deserve respect. --Sam Graham

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars "THEY DONT MAKE BANDS LIKE CHICAGO ANYMORE".......2006-12-07

Chicago performs beautifully at this concert in NYC. I admit the requests were at times annoying and of course the tributes by Dick Clark and Jay Leno, David Letterman, Sopranos and of course the annoying MCing by Marc McEwen. Besides the negatives Chicago performs nicely and really show why they lasted all these years. Jason Scheff does an adequate job singing Peter Cetera songs, I wish reviews about Scheffs singing performance on this dvd were'nt so harsh. Chicago did thier best to replace Peter Cetera, but it is hard to replace a legend like Peter Cetera. Jim Pankow and Walter Parazaider do not even mention Peter Cetera or Danny Seraphine during thier interviews with McEwen. I guess Cetera and Seraphine have bad blood with Chicago. I wish they would work out thier differences and perform together or make a new cd, wishful thinking. Terry Kath was mentioned an that was a beautiful thing , especially when Walter Parazaider talks about the story of meeting Jimi Hendrix and how Hendrix said Kath was a better gutarist than he was. This dvd watched on your regular tv will sound like Chicago performing in a fish tank. You need to watch it with a theatre system, this dvd was ment to be heard on a 5.1 theatre system, that is why Chicagos performance sounds like it is enclosed in a fish tank when watching it on a regular tv. The list of songs is great at 92 minutes long, In the immortal words of Dick Clark " They dont make bands like Chicago anymore."

3 out of 5 stars Good but could be better.......2006-09-03

As someone who was born about four months after Terry Kath died, I didn't get into Chicago until I found the Australian-only compilation "25 Years Of Gold" in a second-hand shop in Perth and it quickly became one of my all time favourite CDs. I now own seven Chicago albums, but none from after 1985 - just couldn't get into the later stuff at all.

So I was excited to see this DVD spanning some of their classics. I must admit that for me the band isn't complete without some of the people that made that experience complete for me when I discovered the band. However, the band is what the band is - Jason and Keith manage very well in my opinion in this performance - I think if you're reading the reviews here, there is far too much criticism of them. Jason is never going to be Peter, but he does a good performance in his own right, especially on Questions.

On looking on here I can see the three reasons I wasn't entirely happy with it are generally shared - the sound quality isn't great and the mix understates the horns, Bill Champlin's vocals on a few songs sound forced and the commentary that forms part of A&E gets annoying and it would be nice to be able to skip it.

For those complaining about the request issues - as a musician I know that recalling lyrics of tunes and exact sequences I wrote 3 or 4 years ago and haven't played in intervening years can be difficult, I couldn't even imagine 30, or coordinating that with an entire band with the same issues. In addition, there may have been emotional factors as well with it being a Kath song. I think trying to keep the fan happy by playing at least the alternative was a great way to handle the situation and is probably what I would have done as well.

4 out of 5 stars well pleased with purchase.......2005-08-19

Amazon.com provided quality product at a good price.Excellent communication & mailing.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Chicago Live Performance.......2005-08-05

Chicago, in addition to being one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever, are also known for very dynamic live performances. Up until 2002, the only documents of them in concert were the classic but somewhat dated 1972 recording "At Carnegie Hall" and their 1999 live album, which was woefully lacking. But for a concise and enjoyable concert of the band performing all their hits spanning their whole career, this 2002 A&E special is near perfect. Here you have Chicago perfoming five decades worth of hit songs, including "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is", "Beginnings", "25 Or 6 To 4", "Saturday In The Park", "You're The Inspiration", "Look Away" and "Hard To Say I'm Sorry". There's not much in the way of diversity as most of these are the songs you'd hear in a standard Chicago concert, but the performances sound lively and fresh, the same way they did 30 years ago. If there's anything about the show that I didn't like, it was host Mark McEwen. He really was annoying, and I was irked when one caller requested either "Heart In Pieces" or "If You Leave Me Now", and McEwen made him choose "If You Leave Me Now. Having the group perform "Heart In Pieces" or better yet the song the caller initially requested, Terry Kath's "In Terms Of Two, (which they wouldn't have played anyway because they feel uncomfortable about playing Kath material since his untimely 1978 death) would have added some variety to the otherwise standard setlist. But other than that, this is an energetic and highly enjoyable concert, and the tributes by Jay Leno, Dick Clark and others were nice to watch. This is a dvd I would recommend to any Chicago fan.

    3 out of 5 stars Entertaining.......2005-08-02

A great Chicago TV request show. The band and the music is great. I would give this 5 stars if it were a straight through concert without the in between requests etc. The visual is great , although I found the audio mix not at its very best probably due to the TV studio set up, and Peter Cetera is most definitely missed.

1 out of 5 stars Please, stop deluding yourselves..........2006-09-10

Plain and simple, there is no such thing as the group, Earth, Wind & Fire without Maurice White. Anything else is simply not genuine EWF, and true fans of their music know this.

5 out of 5 stars Their greatest hits in one DVD.......2006-02-11

I missed Maurice White, but I think the band is sounding as good and as powerful as ever. I think the dancers could have been ommited (this probably is one addition from their Las Vegas show, and don't get me wrong, the girls are beautiful and good dancers but unnecessary), and the ego of Philip Bailey minimized (just look at him and you will know what I mean) to leave room for other members to shine. My kids have listened to their music for years but now that they have seen them, they like EWF more. Great production, great sound, you will enjoy it and dance along.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful, creative, great sound and video quality.......2004-11-22

The video is 1999, from A&E, and contrary to the Chicago appearance on "live by request" (whose sound was horrible...don't buy that DVD), this one was perfect.

The band plays all their major hits, about 17-18 tracks in all. Long concert. People have complained about Maurice White not being there, but Sheldon did a great job of replacing him, and Philip Bailey still strips the paint off walls with his voice. What power and range!

The band is awesome (I'm a drummer, and would have loved to see Sonny Emory, but Gordon Campbell is equally a master on the drums, and actually sounds like Emory in his style).

This DVD is hot...and in DTS 5.1 sound....can't beat it. Buy it today!

    5 out of 5 stars NICE CONCERT!!!!.......2004-09-22

THIS IS PRETTY GOOD. I ENJOY THIS CONCERT. I JUST DON'T LIKE THE INTERRUPTIONS. THE GROUP PERFORMED THEIR SONGS WELL. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY EARTH,WIND,AND FIRE FAN.

    5 out of 5 stars UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-06-14

Long-time die-hard EWF fan. I have done their music live, there is no greater musical high. This is a superbly produced DVD. The arrangements take EWF to the highest levels yet. Musicanship (although not all-original band) is awesome. Sound and video technology is near perfect. If all my favorite bands did this quality of DVD production, I would never get anything done.

    3 out of 5 stars Nice ... but........2007-01-10

What can I say? It's Carlos! With a great band too. I guess I wanted a some more old-time, but-kicken from Dennis Chambers, but that's just me. It's a nice concert if you like the newer stuff (with guest singers) mixed with a few of his standards. Nicely priced too, for a very high quality DVD production.

4 out of 5 stars Live, but at the studio...........2006-12-20

Forget surround sound. Music sounds best with (2) channel anyways. Duh! When are you fancy pants going to figure this one out! The audio & video are as good as it gets. A nice 1 hour long 100% concert at the studio with a very small crowd present (yeah live it is). Wish I was invited.

Most of the band is still with Carlos from the early 90's - all top-shelf performers. Santana doesn't let you down - ever. I just wish there was more footage of Myron Dove playing rhythm guitar/piccolo bass.

1 out of 5 stars Santana - Live by Request.......2006-10-11

War Of The Worlds will about blow my windows out. I have the newest and greatest Home theater systems with 15" speakers. This DVD is flat. Sounds like a mono system from the 50s

    1 out of 5 stars Dishonest Packaging.......2006-03-24

I'm a big Santana fan, and bought this DVD with a Dolby Digital insignia on the back of the label at Best Buy, expecting that the format was DD 5.1, and why shouldn't it be?

But once I got it open and in the DVD player I discovered that the format was - PCM ONLY! There is no "setup" option in the menu and no audio format choice - NO DD period.

Companies like Sony/Arista spend millions on PR combatting piracy. But piracy works both ways - in this case Arista (Sony) took my money and fraudulently fobbed-off this poorly produced product.

This is 2006 and to produce a music DVD that is "PCM only" is nothing short of idiotic.

Don't buy this video expecting that the producers have made any effort to give you value for your money, because they haven't.

    Aren't these guys ever accountable?

This shortchanging of consumers is becoming all too common. For instance,"The Island" was distributed in Canada with DD5.1 in french, but only DD2.1 in english.

Even after the mistake came to light and buyers realized they had been fleeced, the producers made their customers go through all kinds of hoops to obtain the correct DD5.1 english copy.

The distributors even refused to replace copies, that were sold to video stores, with the "authentic"DD5.1 version, seemingly willing to commit fraud with every rental.

5 out of 5 stars Great As Always!.......2006-03-09

If you enjoy Carlos Santana, there are three DVD's to get: Supernatural Live, Sacred Fire, and now, Santana, Live by request. This DVD gives you a very true look at what most Santana concerts are like(with the exception of the varios guest performers). Concert videos are great in that, they show how well performers perform in real-time settings. Any garage band can make a video but when you're in front of a live audience, that's a different story.

Good camera work, nice angles, good sound mixing and a very professional overall production. I would have liked to have seen an additional half hour but it was put together by A&E for TV so there's your time limits. Glossy but not over produced.

I've heard people comment that he sounds the"same" over the years. What these people don't realize is Santana has crafted "his sound". No one else sounds like Carlos Santana, hearing just one sustained note, you can tell right away it's him. Carlos' sound basically is, a choice of three or four PRE Santana I guitars(sorry kids, the PRS guitars he uses are nothing like the Santana models available at the local Guitar Center). Paul Reed Smith probably set up & tweaked the guitars personally. For amps, he has two Dumble Overdrive Reverb heads plugged into two BrounSoun Cabs each with four ToneTubby Hemp Cone speakers and an original Mesa Boogie Mark I head plugged into a single 12" Altec speaker in a square cabinet. For effects, (he uses very few), an Ibenez Tube-Screamer, an old Mutron Wah pedal, and rumor has it, a T-Rex Replicator delay pedal. The rest is pure musical talent.

If you've followed his career, you see a definite evolution in his playing style. It is "not the same old stuff". He has amazing feel for the music, he knows when to turn-it-up on his solos and when to temper it. Listen closely, his solos are all different. He'll incorporate his unique styling licks but it's not like the same solos played over and over again that you hear from so many other current guitarists.

This DVD is really an accurate look at what his concerts are like. He plays often here in his native Northern California and most of concerts are in smaller, more intimate, theatre venues as in this video. "Santana, Live Request" is definitely a nice
    addition to your music collection.

3 out of 5 stars Christmas in Herald Square.......2005-11-23

I heard Christmas in Herald Square on the radio. The singing isn't so good. Not sure about the lyrics, but the "Ho Ho Ho" bothered me. I'm kind of a Tony Bennett fan, but that's based mostly on recordings from longer ago. Ignore the three stars. I can't really rate the entire CD. I'd give Christmas in Herald Square a 2.

4 out of 5 stars Fine tony, production ok........2005-09-16

its only four stars because i thought the direction was kind of ordinary and the host mark mc ewan(sic?) a little too heavy handed in the M.C. dept.Tony in fine fettle. A rare one for me," Christmas in Herold square",Over the rainbow"and a duet with Elmo from seseme street quite charming.DVD quality could be better but your not buying it for that. But it is not as good as tony in a gin mill being the best that can be after sinatra .This one is good at christmas time, which I beleive was when it was taped at A&E several years ago. good show.

5 out of 5 stars Tony Bennett Live By Request.......2002-04-25

This is a great dvd by Tony Bennett.Tony takes request from famous celebrities and sings songs such as steppin out, watch what happens,Chicago, over the rainbow, fly me to the moon and more songs.Tony also does a duet with Elmo.Clint Black performs cold cold heart for Tony and Natalie Cole another one of my favorite singers performs smile. The video quality of the dvd is sharp and clean. The colors are very brillent.Dvd bonus features include song access via chapter search, interactive menus,Tony Bennett photo archive and websites. The disc offers two audio choices. You can choose between pcm stereo or 5.1 surround sound. The 5.1 makes it sound like it surrounds you if you have a tv with surround sound speakers. This dvd makes it seem like Tony's performing for you.If you like Tony Bennett you must get this disc.I hope sony video will release his first live by request Valentines special on dvd in the near future. This was his second one recorded in December 1996.

The great bluesmen are almost all gone now, which is reason enough to celebrate this performance by B.B. King. King's guitar playing and singing no longer burn with the fire he displayed on, say, the immortal Live at the Regal album (after all, he was nearly 78 when this 83-minute show was recorded in New York for A&E in June 2003), but the man hasn't lost his touch--and neither has Jeff Beck, who joins him for three tunes. Beck, who continues to play with remarkable invention and dexterity, may even upstage the master--but he's doing it with licks he learned from B.B. himself. The repertoire, as expected when folks (including Willie Nelson and Tony Bennett) are calling up and asking for their favorites, is filled with King classics ("The Thrill Is Gone," "Sweet Little Angel," "Let the Good Times Roll"), as well as a couple from his '03 album, Reflections. --Sam Graham

3 out of 5 stars Good songs but none of BB's personality.......2007-03-06

To me, this whole performance seems stiff. It's almost as if this was meant to be a studio session, and not a live concert. BB is not free to chat with the audience, tell jokes or anything. He is restricted to sitting by the phone and taking calls, and playing whatever they tell him to. Of course, the music is still very good, and BB is still the best blues guitarists ever, but this is not his best performance. Of course, I am biased, I am a huge BB King fan. This DVD has incredible performances, great interviews, everything a King fan will enjoy. If you aren't a BB King fan (if there is such a thing) this will make you into one.

3 out of 5 stars not his best.......2006-02-10

first i would like to say b.b. is one of my all time favorites and at 80 years of age he whips up on guys half his age, having said that this concert just has a tired feeling to it, in fact my favorite parts are his story telling and his easy way with the audience. his guitar playing is less than inspired and jeff beck is a bit of a downer, his guitar solos are sloppy and just plain odd, would it be asking to much if he just played it straight for once.

    5 out of 5 stars B.B's the King forever.......2005-09-26

Let's clear the air on some issues: B.B. King is not the best guitar player in the world. He can't sing and play at the same time--and he has said so.

But what he does so well--and what makes him a musical and national legend--is that he has SUCH control of his rapport with his audience, his band, and his phrasing. I've NEVER seen anyone wiggle that much vibrato so effortlessly out of a string as B.B. does. Furthermore, he has a wonderful bullhorn of a voice that just comes up from the depths of that large belly (yes, B.B., you're round like a prize pumpkin), but he uses his singing to caress and grind as necessary. He's 80 years old now, and for what it's worth, if vocal cord muscles were a sign of strength and manhood, he's as much a stud as ever. You can see his eyes are getting a bit rheumy, but there's wisdom in them. And he's as charming a storyteller as you'd want to hear.

Musically, he just holds command like royalty up there in that chair--and the band is tight-tight-tight as the slightest quiver of Lucille's strings tell them where and how to go. And friends--the man has the world of musicians to call on when he wants them. This time, he's pulled the fiery Jeff Beck up onstage, and for the simple price of this disc, the camera followed where it should. Beck's thumbnail picking and riffing are an invaluable lesson in themselves for anyone who's tried to learn lead lines with a blues touch. You might have to remind someone who's watching this that when the show's over, they can close their mouth and get over the awe of the show. But don't blame them for being so blown away: when B.B. King and friends like Jeff take on something like a request night, the thrill will never be gone.

5 out of 5 stars BB is the King.......2004-02-02

I have seen BB King Live for the past 4 years as he tourd. For the
Review befor said he look tired, well if you were 79yr old I wounder how you would look. As for the Jeff Beck thing, I dissagree
BB had toured with Buddy Guy, John Hiatt, Tommy Castro and Susan Tedeschi, who all seem to be very well plug in.Learn you Blues and the diferent types. A very good video, only wish it was longer, like his concerts.

Originally performed and broadcast for A&E on May 7, 2004 from Manhattan's John Jay College, Blondie: Live by Request finds New York City's cherished punk-popsters older, rounder, and still in possession--if not always in complete control--of the fire needed for credible performances of classics like "Dreaming," "Rapture," "Call Me," and "Heart of Glass." The 2004 Blondie includes founders Deborah Harry, Chris Stein, and Clem Burke solidly backed by Paul Carbonara (guitar), Kevin Topping (keyboards), and Leigh Foxx (bass). The disc's 17 tracks comprise Blondie's biggest hits, with "Atomic" notably absent and four cuts from 2003's Curse of Blondie (including a touching tribute to Joey Ramone) holding their own against the tried and true. Harry remains her flamboyant self, compensating for a diminishing vocal range with fresh phrasings and boundless pizzazz. Lead guitarist Stein seems lost at times, while drummer Burke plays tighter than ever, cementing the songs with a mix of disco sass and punk fervor. Keep your remote handy: caller requests and the show's vapid emcee get old fast.

DVD sound is timbrally on target but dynamically compressed to within an inch of its life, but the mix breathes better in surround (Dolby or DTS) and it's easier on the ears in DTS. --Michael Mikesell

Deborah Harry and Blondie look and sound better than ever. Their new variations on their original tunes are terrific and their new stuff is awesome. Still a fan!

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-07-22

On this DVD Blondie out-rocks almost every band 1/3 their age. The performance is great and the sound is incredibly huge and powerful. Highly reccomended. (G-Lebo, sorry, but Debbie is not singing out of key anywhere...maybe you need a hearing aid.)

    5 out of 5 stars I love Debbie Harry!.......2006-07-06

3 out of 5 stars Debbie is out of tune.......2006-04-01

I saw this concert by TV and I was very dissappointed. Debbie sings out of tune almos all the time !!!!! The only reason why I give this DVD 3 stars is because Blondie is a legend and this is one of the few DVD of this great band.
