Not so wonderfull DVD........2005-12-16
This DVD is commerating 10 years since the release of Oasis's dbut album in August 1994, and it would be fair to say they've released an album (expection to Morning Glory) thats done it justice since.
After Be Here Now, Oasis have released a string of pointless records that go absolutley no where, their latest (Don't Beleive The Truth) being the most unartistic statement they've yet to make, yet hailed as a return to form because it won awards and made it to number one, which of course means nothing as their has been nothing else to come out in a blue moon that has shook anything up in recent times.
This band sold out after their "Standing on the shoulder of Giants" album that was released in 2000.
The DVD is sad to watch because you get the feeling the band a more a nostalgia act (much like whats become of U2 and The Rolling Stones these days) rather than making any impact as a band for there music at the present time.
And the DVD concentrating on the album is mostly gossip from journalists and radio announcers and the newer members of the band, and Mani from the Stone Roses raving about how great they think it is, and of course Liam and Noel Gallaghar reflecting on how many times they had to record it, as well as they're producer Owen Morris who spends more time swearing than anything else (and what else can he say? We recorded the album, I was the only one who knew how to mix the record - simple)
Funnily enough, its nice to see Bonehead again and his parts the most interesting.
As for the extras, its just Noel reflecting on stories that last for 20 seconds, the best part is the bonus DVD.
Overall a complete waste of time from a band that should be doing alot better these days.
5 stars for the Music + 4 stars for the Interviews = 9 stars.......2005-09-07
Like Keith Moon and Pete Townshend from the Who, Liam and Noel from Oasis merit 5 stars for their comedic skills alone. That they also deliver the goods musically on this, their finest album, is worth another 4 stars. My only complaint is that the interviews aren't longer.
Since Amazon won't let me rate this 9 stars, I'll do the next best thing and share some of the DVD secret tracks with you. There may be more, but these are the ones I do know:
* DVD Secrets *
Rock 'N' Roll Star audio track - press down on your DVD remote for an interview about Liam wanting bag pipes on Rock 'N' Roll Star.
Supersonic audio - press down for music theory.
Cigarettes & Alcohol audio - press down for interview with Noel about the song.
Slide Away audio - press down for interview about the name Definitely Maybe.
Married With Children audio - press down for the letter from Guigsy on why he was not on the DVD.
Sad Song audio - during the black intro, press down for audio clips of the legendary "Wibling Rivalry" interview.
Live Forever audio - press down for interview with Noel about wanting Live Forever as track three on the album.
Press angle on Live Forever, Shakermaker, Supersonic and Cigarettes & Alcohol for US versions of the videos.
Not necessarily so special.......2005-08-14
If you already have this album on CD there isn't much point in buying this unless you simply can't live without it. I was extremely disappointed. I had thought it had a 5.1 soundtrack which is what the UK reviews indicated. Turns out that the Region 4 release only has PCM stereo and Dolby 2.0. Since the extras are thing you watch only once or twice, it is hard to recommend it. If you do decide to buy it, make sure your version has the 5.1 soundtrack!
Not a bad outing........2005-05-16
10 years since the greatest debut album ever......probably....yeah definitley.
Well what a great reason to release, a DVD more celebrating ten years of Oasis rather than the record, as gooder record as it is, its nothing (on the whole) that changed the musical world, but more woke it up and said, this is what its all about, we mean it, and they did and still do, despite their albums falling short of expectations, and not only that.
They are still the most important band in the world.
OASIS: their finest hour.......2004-12-08
This is a lot better than some of the other Oasis DVDs. Their first album is highly regarded. There are no weak songs. Their later albums don't hold up as well. It does seem like a lot if you have the albums, have seen Live Forever, have read Q Magazine and NME for the past ten years, and read Britpop by John Harris, like I have. There is not much new. I am not the biggest Oasis either. But I didn't mind because I haven't heard this record in five years. People say that "Live Forever" is the best songs and this album is the best debut album of all time.
