Toto may be past its prime as a multi-platinum recording band, but Live in Amsterdam offers abundant proof that their performances are as electrifying as ever. Recorded in Amsterdam's Heineken Music Hall on February 17, 2003, near the end of Toto's 25th anniversary world tour, this dynamic concert serves as a cheerful reminder that Toto have been alive and well and recording steadily since 1978. The band's 2002 release Through the Looking Glass was an album of covers, two of which are welcomed here: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a prime showcase for guitarist Steve Lukather, and "Bodhisattva" is a tight, meticulous tribute to Toto's original drummer, the late Jeff Porcaro, and his classic sessions with Steely Dan. The mega-hits "Africa," "Rosanna," and "Hold the Line" are perfectly executed, and in a band full of talented singers, lead vocalist Bobby Kimball sounds better than ever. Two impressive medleys show the band in full gear as a comfortable unit of seasoned professionals, highlighted by impeccable work from keyboardist David Paich, bassist Mike Poracaro, and ace drummer Simon Phillips (who also produced and mixed this recording for DVD). And while 35 minutes of Porcaro's backstage home-video might seem frivolous, it shows a band that's still having fun, as reflected in the beaming smiles of their appreciative Amsterdam audience. --Jeff Shannon

Toto excellence.......2007-05-12
If you are a Toto fan, this live concert is a must have!
Still Sounding Great.......2007-03-20
When I first got this I wanted an HD DVD of a concert just to see if the audio was just as great as people said it was. So I popped 'er in and WOW, was I impressed. They still got it. When Bobby Kimball starts singing you know you are in for a ride.
The third song, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, is easily a new favorite. I found myself popping this in just for this one song alone. Watching Lukather rip it up on this track is exciting every time.
It looks awesome for the majority too, especially on the close ups. The only real problem with HD is that I it seems I'm always noticing when the camera goes out of focus. Not a big problem, but can get annoying when you are trying to focus on how amazing the detail is on their shirts or guitar straps.
Overall the sound is great and the visuals just pull you in and you feel like you are actually there. Definitley a must have for any serious Toto fan or anyone who likes good live music.

great concert...expected much better sound.......2007-05-10
I liked the concert a lot.....just expected much better sound...have several other concerts not on blu-ray that sound much better...sounds like there are microfones....3 ft away taking the audio....well at least thats what I felt.....
Audio and Video quality good...but the band isn't in their prime anymore.......2007-05-07
I really love some of Toto's songs, and some of them can still bring it, but some of the band members are showing their age. The lead vocals in "Africa" just isn't the smooth, melodic voice you remember from the 80's.
Also, my personal opinion is that it's inexcusable to release a Blu-ray disc of a concert and not offer any type of lossless audio. This disc doesn't have 5.1 uncompressed PCM, nor Dolby TrueHD, nor DTS-HD Master Audio (or even high res, for that matter.) **IF YOU ARE A MUSICAL GROUP, WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT YOUR MUSIC PLAYED IN THE BEST AUDIO FORMATS AVAILABLE?** I just don't get it.

TOTO Can Still Lay It Down!!!!.......2007-04-22
Just got this DVD and here are my impressions. Toto now includes quite a few more Lbs. (especially Paich!) and LOTS more hair dye but these boys can still play and sing their butts off. Bobby Kimball still has his vocal range....he hits a friggin' "F#" in English eyes...a note very few female singers can tap. Yeah...we ALL miss Jeff Porcaro's drumming but Simon Phillips is a stud drummer none-the-less. Mike Porcaro fills in nicely on bass where the fabuous David Hungate used to roam. I must say the audio on this DVD is top flight...I've watched it with 5.1 surround and with headphones on and it's probably the best audio production I've heard on a concert DVD. You would expect the Toto guys to make sure this was the case. Highlights are Africa, Rosanna (with a funky "little feat-esque" breakdown at the end), Hold The Line. The DVD extras are also hilarious...if a a little bit risque...having been on tour buses with fellow musicians this is what a typical band atmosphere is like to a "T".
buy this DVD and enjoy the sound,,,the musicianship and be convinced that "old guys RULE" !!!!!!!!
If you love the original band you will love this concert !.......2007-03-30
I have loved Toto since their first musical adventures started.
I was luck enough to see them a few times before they split.
This reunion show is all I would ask for.

Great Gift 4 Friends and Fans.......2007-01-11
This video is amazing, great band, great performance, great sound & video, perfect gift for friends & fans...
Perfection is musicianship.......2006-08-14
I think it's somewhat comical that anyone could give this a subpar review. I've been a musician for 20 years and with that in mind, I have nothing but the utmost respect for this band. To the people who have tried to criticize this band, do you have any idea how difficult it is to become this proficient as a musical peformer individually, let alone as an entire band? Give me a break. Ask anyone with an iota of talent musically what they think of this band and these musicians and it should come as no shock that they will give nothing but high praise and due diligence where it belongs. This concert, the video footage, the audio recording, the overall band presence, all of it, is exceptional. If it's not your "thing", hey, I can understand that. Not everyone has taste. This is a classic and highly underated concert and band.
Toto - 25th Anniversary.......2006-06-29
Toto at their best!!!! Dedication to Jeff Porcaro and George Harrison Awesome. Steve, David, Mike, Bobby, Mike and Simon hats off.
