It's hard to know what to make of this full-length, lavishly produced concert by Sarah Brightman, a singer and performer who seems to have been born a half-century too late. Had she come on the scene in the 1950s, when Broadway musicals were a career stepping-stone to recording contracts and TV variety-show guest appearances, Brightman could have had a Julie Andrews-type career. But Brightman, one-time companion of Andrew Lloyd Webber (who gave her the starring role in Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera), is trying to find her concert market a decade after her Phantom success. One Night in Eden, a live performance of a solo album, has elaborate, stagey set pieces that look like a bizarre cross between Stevie Nicks and Madonna. And Brightman has the musical taste of a pretentious Celine Dion (she even sings Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" in Italian, as though this gives it class). Her pudgy build isn't enhanced by the half-dozen gowns (she favors the Pre-Raphaelite) she changes into in a show that is apparently for fans only. --Marshall Fine

Customer Reviews:
Brilliant and Moving........2007-04-23
There is a veritable plethora of musical genre here. This is the magic of Sarah Brightman. The more contempory pieces are brilliant. The classical pieces are moving and stirring. I have always loved her version of Nessun Dorma and feel moved everytime I hear it. Her heart rendering vocal on First of May is worth the price alone. Il Mio Cuore Va is Sarah at her romantic best.I needed this concert to complete my set and now I wonder why I didn't get it sooner.
The review from the guy " What Is This?".......2006-06-23
The guy must be a nut case! This is a lavishly concert and I enjoyed it a lot! I played it with a high-end Sony TV and a Sony VCR and I can tell she actually sang. There may be some technics to enhance her voice....She is not a thin model like the "standard" now a day but she is NOT "pudgy". She is quite attractive at her age! Her voice is important because she is just not a Pop singer like Britney! The arrangements are sophisticated so maybe some people don't understand I think.
What is this?.......2006-01-05
I strongly recommend you to rent this DVD before buying - I am sure it will save you some good money.
- I kept asking myself while I was watching it: - what is this? what is this? - and before you might think I am an old-obscure-dark-fashion person - I tell you I am not.
Editorial review is ridiculous!.......2005-12-17
"Born half a century too late" oh really?
I'm glad that Sarah Brightman is singing in an original, her own style, and not following trends that are popular right now. She has a great voice and people would listen to her no matter what is 'in'...singing what is 'in' and 'modern' is for people who can't sing classics.
Her originality, voice, and creative shows and themed CDs is what draws me most to her music; and many other people who listen to her songs.
So don't listen to the editorial review, if you like Sarah Brightman and musicals/classical music you would like this.
Sarah Brightman In A Live Concert - Outstanding.......2005-02-24
Sarah is beautiful and has a wonderful voice. The VHS tape has excellent sound quality and excellent video quality. She sings about 20 songs in this concert in 92 minutes - just amazing. The viewer is in for a real treat. The concert is classic and romantic.
