Live in Concert: Soundstage

Starring:Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Studio: KOCH VISION
Product Type: DVD
Editorial Review:
Description
The work of Tom Petty is a uniquely-American blend of pop and rock that has paid handsome dividends for the star over the years. With his faithful band The Heartbreakers behind him, Petty lit up stages across the country, and became an unlikely early star of MTV with some innovative video work. Subsequent releases saw him justifiably included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, alongside a stint in supergroup The Travelling Wilburys. SOUNDSTAGE presents a live concert from Petty and his band, with a number of their biggest hits getting a welcome airing.

Great recordings & Great gift idea !.......2007-03-28
Got this for my husband for Christmas and he is SO happy with it! He's really happy when I told him how inexpensive it was... :)
I wouldn't bother............2007-02-26
I saw Chicago when they were Chigago Transit Authority. They put on an excellent concert and jammed every song. I saw them after they became famous and the concert was very dull. Every song played just like the record. I thought that, after all these years, they would be better. They aren't. No jamming here. Every song done as the original with maybe a couple short variations. I was very dissapointed. They are capable of doing some good concerts but I really can't say that this is one of them.
Great Performance, Excellent Production.......2007-01-20
This is one of our favorite musical performance DVD's. The performance of the original band members plus the newer members is excellent. Highly recommended for those that remember Chicago's 1970's hits. The video & sound production are excellent.
MY PERSONAL OPINION.......2007-01-15
The main complaint I have is this: as a trombone player, I have always enjoyed listening to Chicago, and basically the video was very well done and enjoyable to watch and listen to. But I noticed that the blend of the horns was not recorded well. Lee L's trumpet comes through nice and clear, and Walt P's woodwinds also are recorded well, but for some reason Jimmy's trombone was noticeably and very frustratingly weak throughout the majority of the entire recording. It was OK once when he and Lee were going back and forth in the duet they play in "Beginnings", but the rest of the time Lee (and Walt) sound(s) considerably louder, and I was straining to hear Jimmy. Very disappointing for me - I do hope there is another concert recording of them which does a better mixing job.
Not the Original - But Still OK.......2007-01-02
If you are expecting the original works of Chicago, this DVD will not live up to your expectations. With substitute / new band members inserted, the tracks are played well, but are clearly not the same as the original renditions. All in all, the DVD is OK.

Product Description
Running Time 60 Min
System Requirements:
With a diverse range and an incredible popular appeal, Michael McDonald has been entertaining audiences with his own brand of "blue-eyed soul" for years, continually turning out catchy and inspirational pop music influenced in equal parts by Memphis-style soul, rhythm and blues, and soulful ballads. First attaining popularity with the legendary Doobie Brothers, McDonald has gone on to be a guest performer on recordings with many acclaimed artists such as Steely Dan, Quincy Jones, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Loggins, and many others. On this live performance, broadcast by the BBC in July 2003, he is reunited with fellow Doobie Brothers Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons as they perform such Doobie classics as "What a Fool Believes," "Blackwater," and "Taking it to the Streets," as well as McDonald's solo hits; the performance is highlighted by the guest appearance of Valerie Simpson and Nickolas Ashford, the visionary husband and wife songwriting team.

this is great of course michale is still sexy, tom johnston oh my god does he look sharp the music is first rate also i had a crush on a boy at school when what a fool belives was out i was a freshman it was one of those throwing papper wads at each other things and i acted like i hated him he would try and help me with my math and i was to shy and scared i run into him once in a while now and these songs are the back drop to that special time in my life by the way i still have a crush on michale
Can we ever have enough Michael McDonald?.......2006-05-17
I gotta tell you something. I'm really excited about it. Uh, for the first time, today, I woke up, I came to the store, and I - I feel confident to say to you that if you don't take this Michael McDonald DVD - that you've been playing for two years straight - off, I'm going to kill everyone in the store and put a bullet in my brain!
Excellent performances of old and newer hits.......2006-04-26
I have 2 other DVDs of Michael McDonald (Doobies -- Wildlife Concert, Michael McDonald -- A Gathering of Friends) and this one is just as good if not better than those. MM sings his solo hits (Sweet Freedom, I keep Forgetting), his hits with the Doobie Brothers (Minute by Minute, What a Fool Believes, Takin' It to the Streets, You Belong to Me), and songs from Motown 1 album (I Heard It through the Grapevine, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Ain't Nothin' Like the Real Thing). Patrick Simmons & Tom Johnston from the Doobies also sing 2 of their songs (Black Water, Take Me in Your Arms).
MM is backed up by an outstanding band and singers. I really enjoyed the performances. On his own songs with the Doobie Brothers, I felt he performed them better on this DVD than on the Doobies -- Wildlife Concert, which happened to be a really great performance. He is also backed up by Ashford and Simpson on the Motown songs.
I thought the sound quality was very good; I had no problems with it.
If you're a MM fan, you will really like this DVD! It is a great sampler of some of his best songs with the Doobies, his solo hits in the 80's and the Motown songs. If you want just one music DVD of MM's songs, this is the one to get.

Terrific .......2007-03-29
If you are a fan of either TRace or Travis you will love this DVD and won't be able to stay in your seat while watching it. I am a huge fan of both - this showed the earlier side of Trace and if you love Trace as much as some of us do, then you will be able to see how much his voice has changed over the years. This is classic Travis and Trace and worth the purchase! I have played mine over and over, not only to watch but also to listen to on a boring cleaning day
