Over the main program, Croce's wife and collaborator, Ingrid Croce, and producer Nick Redman recorded a commentary track that compiles Ingrid's thoughts on the songs and her life with Jim, and other rare footage is accompanied by a commentary track by son A.J. Have You Heard: Jim Croce Live, features the late singer-songwriter's performances on television in the early 1970's. If you like Jim Croce....Get this DVD....you will not be disappointed. Except for maybe he style. He has this crazy cowboy-ish shirt on some of the songs.

In the 30+ years since Croce's tragically untimely death, just as he reached the peak of a popularity that seemed sure to last for decades, he and his accompanist were killed in a plane crash just as they were finishing up a grueling tour that seemed likely to be the last such time he'd be away from his family for such an extended period. The tragedy to his fans and lovers of good music is one thing; the loss to his wife and son cannot be calculated.

His recordings have been re-released several times in different formats, and are always a wonderful blend of folk, pop, rock, blues, and country, dished up with equal portions of humor, pathos, romance, wistfulness, and nostalgia, always told through a remarkably mature perspective for someone who died at age 30. This former truck driver was a man's man, but his intellectual and emotional depth was rare, and it shines through in the many great tracks included here. The sound is usually in mono, since these were early '70s TV broadcasts and no stereo recording was done for that format, but some interludes are in stereo as we see sweet moments of Jim and his family in photos and film.

For a longtime fan like me, this is absolutely precious. It's such a joy to see Jim in action after all the years of having to just recall seeing that famously character-filled face in motion, and all I remember is here: The wonderful stories he'd tell about his songs, the crystal clarity of two acoustic guitars that were always meant to be together, and the robust voice of a man who could make you laugh one moment and cry the next with his story songs and sheer raw emotion of love lost or never fully achieved.

This is a treasure. Don't miss it.

great dvd with a great singer.......2006-01-30

being a fan of Jim Croce for many years, It was without any hesitations that I bought the dvd. I am really glad that I did. Because by looking at him when he sing, I could tell that he is very happy to be alive. He had happiness in his eyes, It is rare to see a man like him nowadays, somebody that is really to love.

The dvd has most of the songs that I like. Naturally It has Bad Bad Leroy Brown, and many more. But one minus point, my favorite tune was not done live, I mean the one titled ''I have to say I love you in a son'', It was only played like on a cd. Too bad. Besides that little thing, everything is perfect, His wife explained how was his life with him, his son did the same. It must have been really nice to have known him.

Having the DVD, plus some cd and some lyrics, I can say that he is and will be forever in my mind. What a shame that he died so young. I speak french, I am sorry if my english is not as good as it should be but I think that anybody interested in good music should buy this. A great dvd with a great singer with great songs I

Classic Croce.......2006-01-29

Its been forty some years since Jim's death but his music lives on today. The DVD is packed with his classic hits and brief dialog. Takes you back to the early 70's, seeing him sing to what appears to be small audiences. It is a treasure to have this Cd and re-live some of those days with Jim's music.

I really enjoyed this music DVD...I especially liked how Jim told brief stories about the songs before he sang them. This DVD had excellent sound quality. Jim and his partner were truly talented guys! Such a shame they died way too early.
