Recorded before the U.K. release of Swing While You're Winning, Robbie Williams's renditions of pop standards on Live at the Albert are at once delightful and disorienting. It's long been known that Williams is enamored of the Rat Pack, and here he lives out an illusion of being one of them. Clearly the jaunty singer is having a ball. The production is impeccable, the chorus girls are beautiful, his voice is in fine form--even his sweat-soaked, cuff-linked shirt hangs on him perfectly. But often Williams's trademark sarcasm and well-documented insecurities overshadow his love of the music. The strangest moment of the show occurs during an intermission, when MC Rupert Everett quizzes the audience on how much they love Robbie Williams. Although delivered with a wink, the stunt is most un-Rat Pack-like. The show as a whole seems like a surreal dream in which Robbie is at once working out his self-doubt and living his fantasy. And on a very conscious level, that is exactly what he is doing. --Beth Massa

When Robbie is having fun, we are all entertained!.......2007-05-27
What separates Robbie Williams from other musical artists out there is that Robbie Williams is a born entertainer. More than a voice, more than just talent, Robbie Williams gets on stage and stuns the audience with his charisma and charm. At just over an hour, this concert is jam packed with remarkable ballads, stunning duets and a little playful banter along the way.
The show starts off with a bang as Robbie emerges with "Have You Met Miss Jones?" and ends with a phenomenal version of "My Way" that will take your breath away. The orchestra does a fantastic job giving more life to his performance, and the dancers are professional, sassy and spot-on. The various partners that appear throughout the show (Jon Lovitz, Jonathan Wilkes and Jane Horrocks) do a great job, but Robbie outshines them all.
The thing that makes this concert so great is that the stage is Robbie's home and playground. His charm comes from the fact that he doesn't give a damn about concert etiquette. He lights up a cigarette and steals somebody's water. He swears and acts like a complete ham, and the audience loves him for it. His rapport with his duet guests, especially Jonathan Wilkes, is fantastic. When Robbie shares a quick laugh with Wilkes in the middle of a performance we get a glimpse at just how happy Robbie is to be on stage.
This is a concert that you will want to watch over and over again. Robbie's voice is gold, his charisma is palpable, the orchestra is fantastic, the music is wonderful, the girls are beautiful and the set up is awesome. This is an absolute gem.
The DVD holds features other than the concert as well. We get to watch as Robbie creates the "Swing When You're Winning" CD and we get a glimpse at his `Day Job' - being a pop sensation throughout Europe.
If you are going to watch one concert this year, this is the one to watch.
An experiance like none other........2007-01-09
I have been a fan of Robbie's for a considerably long time. In addition to him I have loved the rat pack since as far back as I can remember. And for Robbie to combine two things that I love is just BRILLIANT!!! This concert grabs you from the beginning and never lets go. Robbie Williams is one of the most tallented singers we have currently and he proves this here. He takes music that is legendary and makes it his own, a feat that is difficult in of its self. I give this concert five stars it deserves nothing less. I advice the fans of Robbie and those who have never even heard of him, buy this concert you will not regret it.
Do It Again, Robbie!.......2006-09-25
Bought this DVD on it's release date, not really familiar (at that time) or knew much about Mr Williams, but I took a chance on it since the Virgin Store was playing a cut off the CD version, I thought, man this guy is quite good. To my delight, came home, invited a few friends for cocktails and "smoke" and sat down to watch it. We were all very pleased. Man, this guy can entertain, an awesome show. We all gave him an ovation. I have since purchased this DVD at leat 10 more times, all to give as gifts, everyone who received it had never heard of him, as we are all middle aged and older, but every one sent me a thank you card and expressed how much they enjoyed it and subsequently also purchased the DVD to give to their friends... The point? Us middle aged and seniors also have great buying power, along with FINE taste. So, ROBBIE, this is for you, put out another one such as this one...We will buy! (me and my monkey's) Very highly recommended to anyone into our great American Standards, besides it's a damn good Show, you will love it.
Great Concert!!.......2006-03-31
This guy is amazing you will see a diferent kind of concert is like a party with close friends and make u feel one of them, great sound if youre going to listen it on a home theater
This is not amnesia: It's deliberate ignorance !.......2006-03-19
My commentary is about the composers or the previous singers and songs. Robbie Williams is not young enough to be so evasive and ignorant as to forget or to not know, and avoid mentioning Paul Anka in relation to the song "My way" or not to mention Bobby Darin in relation to both "Mack the knife" or "Beyond the sea". Besides those huge flaws, added in to favor Frank Sinatra (you're not forgiven, Mr Williams), the show is most pleasant to watch and hear.
