Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jeff Buckley's untimely death gives this 108-minute live performance inevitable poignancy and power as a rare, complete document of his passionate writing and playing style. At the time of Buckley's ascendance in the mid-'90s, both his high-flying vocal attack and his edgy poetic sense struck older listeners as genetic markers from his father, folk-rock legend Tim Buckley. Yet Buckley fils pursued a much more electric, rock-ribbed style, nodding toward behemoths like Pearl Jam and even Led Zeppelin.
This 1995 concert is a single, complete show from the tour that yielded the posthumous Mystery White Boy live album. It likewise impresses, both for Buckley's own songs and the bold cover choices included, here including songs associated with Nina Simone and the MC5 (a range that explains the emotional epics that Buckley favors).
Visually, the unadorned lighting scheme casts an often harsh light on the pale, dark-haired frontman, but a generally solid performance is sonically captured with satisfying detail, and the 5.1 surround sound mix gives the DVD version an appropriate club ambience. The DVD also includes two bonus acoustic performances. --Sam Sutherland

Poor Jeff .......2006-11-06
This would have been a wonderful Dvd were it not for the boisterous hecklers tormenting Jeff throughout the entire concert.I did however enjoy the way Jeff dealt with them. I am saddened by the way he was treated. If I had ever had the opportunity to hear him play live I would have surely been grateful and respectful. Jeff gives a stunning performance nevertheless and for that I commend him.
What legends are made of!.......2006-08-30
This footage bleeds the passion and raw intensity every live act should strive to emulate. Of course, Jeff Buckley was so immensely gifted, it just seemed to ooze from his every pore.
This show was filmed about two months after I saw Jeff perform in Pittsburgh. I was blessed to have met him that day.
He took me aside into a small hallway for a face to face conversation. Obviously an unexpected and generous gesture of humility on his behalf.
He was an eloquent and soft spoken guy with a seemingly endless amount of spontaneity. I found him uncommonly gracious and kind.
In my estimation, Jeff Buckley was completely and totally brilliant. While he reflected the innovation of his influences, he was an archetype. This show is a perfect representation of why I say these things.
There are not words to say how meeting Jeff so joyously affected me,nor how equally disturbing a horrific end for such a lovely soul saddened me.

this recorded performance might take some getting used to. It was my first experience of either Buckley or his music--sort of a head-first, full-bore dive. Was curious because of how many people I'd heard rave about him (Elton John mentions his "Grace" album on Rufus Wainwright's "All I Want" DVD).
Something of a head-bending experience; found the performance discomfiting yet likeable. Buckley was obviously quite talented. The music & lyrics are sensitive, astute, impassioned, sometimes beautiful, but his Robert-Plant-in-the-extreme singing (and I love Plant) and the moody, bleak atmosphere of the performance took work getting into, driving some doubt that this was a taste I could acquire. But so far I think I like him enough to try. The sincere but unmalicious way he finally said "f--- off, just f--- off" to individuals who kept shouting for "Hallelujah" or making other unintelligible commentary could well have clinched it, lol. By interrupting flow & breaking the mood again and again, the "play Hallelujah!" crier seemed to "get" the performance even less than me. But I'm neither disappointed nor sorry I bought this DVD & will dive into it again.
Poor audio quality !!!.......2006-08-08
The sound mix is below standard and the show itself is not much better. I would not buy again this product.
If you are a real fan, maybe its worth the money... otherwise you should avoid this DVD.
Mesmerizing.......2005-12-30
There are no words to describe Jeff Buckley's music. Well, there are, but I couldn't put them together adequately to convey his brilliance.
It is incredible to see him sing and play. This man's voice is the best instrument on the stage. I know I sound starstruck, but he truly is stunning in every way. This review won't be helpful to people looking for technical or musical information, but if you know anything about Jeff Buckley and wonder if this DVD is worth it, I can tell you it is.
On a more personal level, he is as physically beautiful as his music and heartbreakingly human.
