I saw this a long time ago on KPBS channel. I really enjoyed the music so I bought the CD. Cigala has a great unique voice that you cant compare to any singer out there. The DVD that includes a Bonus DVD shows all the behind the scenes stuff that I really enjoyed. If you like Jazz this is a great buy even though its not like any other Jazz you have heard before.

I have been a fan of Bebo and El Cigala since I discovered his album "Lagrimas Negras" right after it came out, recommended by a musician friend. But this set of 2 videos (En Blanco y Negro) is truly a jewel... The DVD with the public performance is fantastic, but when you get to see what took place, for the recording, the drama of true musicians with a passion for making something unusual, and the recording of something that was going to make people stop and try to decifer what was being played.?? a Son,a Bolero,a Rumba Flamenca or simply an accomplished "cantaor" singing the must beautiful boleros with that incredible voice and feeling.?? Making it that unusual..Whatever they created is absolutely fantastic and we hope to get more beautiful boleros arranged by the 2 of them. The second DVD by the way was my favorite, given the sentiment expressed, El Cigala in the "raw" enjoying and almost astonished to see what had been created and enjoying the talent of Bebo and his piano. I would blindly recommend this DVD set to all of those who already are followers of Cigala and Bebo....the DVD set will put you there in the middle of the arrengment of the CD with the family of Cigala in his very own house somewhere in Spain,and with Bebo Valdez creating fantastic music.

I LOVED this cd the moment I first listened to it. It is one of the most beautiful, touching albums I have ever heard. It is one of my top 5 ALL TIME recordings. To see the evolution and collaboration of these two amazing artists was a gift. To see the love between Bebo and Cigala as people and as artist was touching. I can watch and listen to this DVD over and over again.

A Soulful Concert in the Twilight of a Great Career.......2007-04-10

This concert was filmed at a Plaza de Toros in Colombia...I believe in 1998, which would make Don Antonio 79, and in the waning years of his long and legendary career. His voice is one of an elderly man, and there words and even phrases he skips, but one has to see and hear this DVD with one's spirit, and be moved to tears by its inner grandeur. Don Antonio is introduced by his wife Flor (Flor Silvestre, also a legend of Mexican cinema), who he calls his "Vieja hermosa," and says after her..."te adoro, te amo, te quiero, eres mia!" and his horse also is a beauty, as it dances and prances and obeys Don Antonio's every command; I find charro horses riveting to watch, and this white stallion is spectacular.

Antonio Aguilar made countless films during the Epoca de Oro of Mexican filmmaking (late 40's into the early 60's) and way beyond, and was called by some the "Roy Rogers of Mexico" because of the combination of acting, horsemanship and singing, and Aguilar also had an extensive and successful career as a recording artist. This concert is not one to particularly listen to, but to soak in the atmosphere, and the soul of a great artist. Total running time is 57 minutes, and the extra is a small photo gallery. Track list:

I was never fortunate enough to see Don Antonio perform live, so this DVD is a treat. Don Antonio rides his horse and performs his most famous songs in a bull ring in Columbia (I think). I think this performance took place when he was in his late 70's or 80's. I like to compare this performance with the one in the movie "El As de Oro", a Mexican movie from the 60's when Don Antonio was much younger.

Outstanding live concert by the current king of Latin crooners, Luis Miguel. Superior orchestra, background singers, filming, stage production values, lighting and editing. All of the songs are winners. The finale with fireworks is dramatic and exciting. A must own for any fan of Luis Miguel. Interestingly, it's a very different, more mature, style than the earlier excellent concert, El Concierto.

This is without a doubt one of the best concerts I've seen. Ivette Sangalo has a great voice and magnificent presence on stage. This concert is full of sorprises and has a great variety of singers.

Brazilian Magic!.......2006-11-27

Simply fantastic.

I was in Germany for the World Cup in June and by accident, found myself attending a Sangalo concert before Brazil's first match in the tournament. The music was incredible and the great crowd simply added to the experience.

I've listened to her CDs since finding out who she was and if nothing else, her music helps me re-live all the great experiences I had at the World Cup. Thankfully, her music is much more than that, giving one an idea of what it means to be a Brazilian, with its energy and rhythm. She has such a distinctive voice, with great range and expression. In a way, it's almost soothing.

This is a great concert to watch, simply a great show. Everytime I watch it, I want to learn Portuguese! It looked to be a great experience and I am counting the days until I visit Brazil to experience some of its magic. I'll be listening to Ivete on my iPod as I make my way to Copacabana Beach!

i watch this over and over, its a phenominal performance by a leading star of brasil, ivette sangalo. fabulous crowd participation and great and energetic performances by those on stage. an absolute must see with special guests performing alongside ivette throughout the entire show, including daniella mercury, magareth menezes, gilberto gil, etc.. i encourage everyone to watch this who is interested in brasil music and musicians. i cant say enough, i enjoy this so much

This DVD is a must have. The quality of the video is very poor, the soundtrack is acceptable. The music selection is excellent.

Los enenitos verdes is a great band. I did not know most of their songs and thanks to this DVD I was able to appreciate what wonderful Spanish rock musicians they are.

I definitely recommend this DVD.

Great Music...Drunken Cameraman Perhaps?.......2005-12-11

I love Los Enanitos Verdes. I try to go to their concerts every time they come to Puerto Rico. DVD contains a great selection of their songs, including 5 tracks not included in the CD version, but that's the only few good things about this DVD production.

For me, this DVD it's nothing but a a big disappointment. Too many flaws for my liking. For starters, 5.1 audio is not the best you could get. It's merely OK. Color and lighting suck big time. The concert looks too dark and opaque giving it the appearance of a bootleg movie. The biggest disappointment of them all is the TERRIBLE camera work. I mean the crew must have been drunk or the production team just hired amateurs. All that jerking gave me a headache, literally. I tried to keep focused, but I was unsuccesful. I ended up turning the TV off and listening to the music through my Home Theatre system.

Bottom line, I can only give this DVD 3 out of 5 stars only because the song selection is good and it still has more songs than the CD version (for about the same price). If you can live with having a DVD for the sole purpose of listening to it, then go ahead and buy it.

What was visualized now is reality.......2005-10-22

I was wondering if some day I was ever gonna listen to the live version of "Del Cairo A Paris", good, one worry less. I heard about this DVD but thought it was only containing the tracks from the CD. Nop, it had five extra tracks that were omitted from the original recording because of space issues, I think. Most of the tracks were recorded in Tijuana, Mexico and some right here in Phoenix, AZ which is kind of fustrating having missed this concert that was FREE but now I know what I missed, and when I drive through Central I get pissed knowing a great concert took place there.

Felipe Staiti's performance is not to be missed here, he plays pretty good, a good solo-er and he sings too, check out the outro solo in Lamento Boliviano, it's breath-taking. Cantero's coordination when singing and playing bass is unique. Finally we get to Daniel, ehhn, I don't know, he can play, right, but he should learn some new styles, I'm sure he can do better, if he can learn it'll benefit Los Enanos and their public.

Good Concert, though.

I agree with everything the other reviewers said, and won't repeat it. If you have ANY interest in modern Brasilian popular music, you should check this DVD out. This is NOT 3-chord, over-echoed sappy pop, but complex, sensitive, hard-driving, emotionally charged music that will draw you in and leave you breathless. (No, I don't get kickbacks from Warner Video!)

If you've seen her first DVD (also completely worth getting) this will be a welcome addition. If this is the first you've heard of Maria Rita, you will absolutely fall in love with her, her band, and these songs! Since much of her first two albums was recorded live in the studio, it's great to see them all play live, either in the studio or a big hall. I had the privilege of seeing MR and her band live in Chicago last year in a very small venue and the DVD is very similar to that experience. She is truly an amazing performer, and even when rocking out, brings you into the music in a startlingly intimate way, and she and her band have a playfulness that's contagious.

My only wish is that the English subtitles included translations of the lyrics; once you know what some of the songs mean, they become even more captivating. Some are about love, some loss, some confusion, some despair, some poverty, but all are beautiful, most are danceable, and you'll find yourself singing along in Portuguese before you know it.

LIVE FROM RIO: EMOTIONAL, PASSIONATE PERFORMANCES !.......2006-10-06

Five HUGE Stars!! These two live Rio de Janeiro performances by the new MPB diva Maria Rita (Mariano) are wonderful. The DVD is absolutely loaded with 29 tracks of beautiful music spanning over 2 and a half hours. Maria Rita, once thought to be the least musical of the great Elis Regina's kids, is a fully-matured multi-Grammy-winning artist who is one of the most sought-after Brazilian singers in the world, selling out concerts from New York City to Sao Paulo, Brazil to Lisbon, Portugal. And she is on fire on this DVD which went straight to Platinum status and #1 on the Hot 100 Brazilian DVD charts. Don't skip this DVD even if you already own the "Live at Bourbon Street-Sao Paulo" DVD or the "Segundo-live in the studio" DVD. These are separate enjoyable, emotional performances' on a very generous DVD. (see my note) BTW, Rita is pronounced "Hee Ta".

The Claro Hall concert is in front of a sold-out crowd with MR and the quartet performing a whopping 19 songs in March 2006: everything a fan could wish for. With a voice of golden velvet, wearing a beautiful dress, long hair, singing barefoot, and using more "body english" than ever before, she struts the stage like a musical tigress. Like her mom did! She's backed by some of the excellent musicians from the triple Latin Grammy award-winning "Maria Rita" CD and the double Latin Grammy-winning "Segundo (Second) CD.

The 'Pieces d'Resistance', the best of the best, begin with "Nao Vale A Pena" (It's Not Worth It) and her usual wonderful delivery, but then hits her afterburners and lifts the performance to a surprising level that receives a great ovation. Also included are great performances of Muito Pouco (Much Little), Despedida (Farewell), "Conta Outra" (aka Tell Me Another Story), "O Recado" (The Message) and one written by her namesake rocker Rita Lee: "Pagu". And there are two new songs: "Todo Carnaval Tem Seu Fim" (~All Carnivals Have An End) and a sizzling version of reggae/rock band O Rappa's song "O Que Sobrou do Ceu ". And the magnificent "Caminho das Aguas" (Path of Waters) won a Latin Grammy as the Best MPB Song of 2006 based on MR's version. The single nod in the direction of her mom is her musical godfather Milton Nascimento's "Encontros e Despedidas" (Meetings and Farewells) and it's emotionally powerful. If you've never seen her live, this is the one to get, and even if you have, in these performances Maria Rita shows she is among the leaders of the 'state of the art' of jazzy 21st Century Brazilian popular music (MPB). The DVD includes a very tearfull spoken tribute to her late mentor, super producer Tom Capone, who died in a traffic accident only hours after they embraced on stage, basking in her 2004 triple Latin-Grammy triumph in Los Angeles.

At Toca do Bandido studio where her second CD "Segundo" was recorded, MR performs 9 songs in September 2005. The audience is a small gathering of friends and composers, sitting on second story seats looking down on Maria and her trio. The performances of many of the same songs as at Claro Hall are much more intimate and were meant to polish the songs before her performance in larger venues like Claro Hall. Her appearance with head scarf and gypsy earrings is stunning, as is her singing. The DVD includes a humorous music video clip of "Feliz", an explanation of the "Santa Chuva" (Holy Rain) omission in previous DVDs, and a "Making Of" video. Highly recommended. All music is in sensuous, emotional Brazilian Portuguese, which needs no translation. Five HUGE Stars!

Maria and the producers graciously gave us an extra full concert which otherwise might have stayed in a vault for decades, but DVD technology allowed them to stuff the entire Toca do Bandido concert onto the same disc, with other extras. And for that we are thankful. I think it works best if each concert is viewed on separate occasions since they have a separate vibe entirely. Maybe the earlier Toca do Bandido concert should be viewed first. Your choice!
* A special request to producers: next time translate songs and spoken parts into English, if you please, like Milton Nascimento did. As it is, the spoken translations greatly increase enjoyment of these concerts.
* Trivia: she has a new visible tatoo, look for it.)

i had fun watching this dvd, its arrived real quick and in good condition, the concert was real good but after watching it you feel like wanting to see more but the dvd doenst have alot of extras.

A Much Better Choice.......2006-06-27

This DVD is excellent. RBD provided a lively concert that held my attention throughout the DVD. My favorite performances were definitely "Rebelde" and "Salvame", but all songs are entertaining and fun. If you're in the market for an RBD DVD, be sure to purchase this one, "Tour Generacion RBD en Vivo" and NOT "RBD Live in Hollywood", which was very disappointing.

In support of RBD's music: My husband and I are NOT young. We have gotten into Latin music over the past three years and have several "favorite" performers. RBD ranks among our top five or six, and we regret that they are billed as a teeny-bopper group when "mid-lifers" like us find them to be buoyant.

Great for The Kids.......2006-03-18

It is nice to see "Latin Pop" making a comeback. If you liked the Partridge Family, or other TV generated hit bands, this is a great DVD for the Kids. For us adults, I recommend the new Walter Mercado DVD "Las Maravillosas Recetas de Walter Mercado." Please remember that they are both in Spanish so if you do not speak Spanish, do not buy this product, wait for either to be released in English. It is about time the market is releasing product good for both kids and adults. The Walter Mercado DVD, and RBD's product finally offer something for the entire familia.

Mejor Del Vallenato En Vivo.......2005-07-19

This is one fantastic DVD. Jorge Celedon's "Ay Hombe" was one of the biggest hits in Colombia and I can see why. Juan Mario "Juancho" de la Espriella is probably one of the best accordion players in the world and he won my heart over in this DVD playing with Silvestre Dangond. Ivan Zuleta (also featured on this DVD) and Juancho de la Espriella have both played with Diomedes Diaz, one of Colombia's top Vallenato stars. I've watched this DVD five times in the first 24 hours that I had it. I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed.
