Moths and Moonlight.......2007-02-19
"The moth don't care if the flame is real
'coz flame and moth got a sweetheart deal,
and nothing fuels a good flirtation
like need and anger and desperation."
~The Moth
Aimee Mann gives a great feel good concert with cool creative appeal. She gets you into a relaxing rhythmic groove and keeps you addicted right to the last song, then she gives you more.
The DVD reveals how Aimee Mann keeps her connection with the audience on a human level. She never seems distant and even defends her love of boxing. As we can now see, she gave her the next album she talks about twice, a different name.
Songs: The Moth, Calling It Quits, Sugarcoated, Going Through the Motions, Humpty Dumpty, Amateur, Wise Up, Save Me, Stupid Thing, Pavlov's Bell, Long Shot, 4th of July, Red Vines, Invisible Ink...and more. The DVD features interviews with the band and a slide show set to music.
I first heard "The Moth" on her Lost in Space album and loved seeing this song performed live. Her lyrics appeal to my analytical side and the moods are rich with atmospherics to leave me feeling dreamy. As she sings on a stage awash in a moonlight glow, you can't help wishing you had attended this concert.

At Long Last - Aimee Mann 'Live'.......2006-05-24
If you like Aimee Mann, you will love this CD/DVD..The songs are strong and the delivery impeccable. Stand-Out tracks are 'Wise Up', 'Save Me', 'Stupid Thing' and 'Deathly'...I would have liked to see more interaction with the crowd but then with Aimee, she tends to let the songs do the talking..A good collection for both the fans and the casual music lover.
Good But For Fans Only.......2006-05-06
Aimee Mann is a terrific artist - she's one of my all time favourites and I own virtually all her work going back to 'Til Tuesday - but she needs to show more personality & presence to be a truely compelling stage performer. The DVD interviews allude to her unease on stage, so this probabaly isn't a surprise.
The band is so professional - and the arrangements virtually the same as the CDs - that there really isn't much audible difference between these performances and the original CDs. Some people like this, picture perfect renditions of the orginal songs, but I find it uninteresting in a live context. Shake up those arrangements, let the band stretch out a bit!
By the way, unlike many (most?) pop performers, Aimee can really sing live, that was nice to see.
So I like this performance DVD, the music is great, it's just not a great live show.

Amy can swear and curse all she wants.......2006-01-13
Aimee - what a woman: talented, gorgeous, amazing. The performance is great from all involved and believe what others are saying here: this is one of the most amazing video (with razor sharp focus) and audio transfers ever seen and heard. The performance has a very intimate feel; I happen to like the sparse direction, it really works and makes one feel like you're actually there. Not some blown-out, jump-cutting, over-edited mess. As far as her using the f___ word, she could give an entire show saying nothing BUT "f___" and I would STILL love it. Simply put, if you're a fan of Aimee you MUST own this, there's just no question.
