Decades after the death of drummer John Bonham and, for all intents and purposes, the demise of the group, Led Zeppelin's popularity continues unabated--and why not, as long as they keep coming up with offerings as worthy as No Quarter: Jimmy Page & Robert Plant Unledded. Originally released on CD in 1994 and then in a remastered version simultaneously with this DVD, the 115-minute program (including bonus footage) was recorded on a London soundstage, in the hills of Snowdonia, Wales, and outdoors in Marrakech, Morocco. It finds guitarist Page, vocalist Plant, and an array of other musicians performing some new material, but for the most part, the repertoire focuses on their Led Zep legacy--not a surprise, considering that what they did together in that group was better than anything they've done separately, including some pretty good Plant solo efforts and Page's regrettable stint as a member of the Firm. Yet instead of simply parroting their Zeppelin period (and relying on tired warhorses like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love"), they've given the music new life, adding exotic instruments like the bodhran (an Irish drum) and the hurdy-gurdy (played by cranking a rosined wheel against a set of strings) to less familiar fare like "The Battle of Evermore" and "Gallow's Pole." Add to that three brilliant new songs performed with a quartet of Moroccan players, a full complement of strings from the London Metropolitan Orchestra (on "Since I've Been Loving You" and others), and a host of Egyptian percussion and strings on an epic version of "Kashmir" (also from the London session), and you've got a world music blend that is at times genuinely thrilling--especially for those with 5.1 Surround Sound capability. --Sam Graham

Performing with the London Metropolitan Orchestra in 1994, Unledded documents the much-heralded reunion of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Among the songs performed are reworked versions of many Zeppelin favorites, including "The Battle of Evermore," "Gallows Pole," and "Kashmir," along with four new songs, such as "Yallah" and "Wonderful One." 5 out of 5 stars THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF JIMMY PAGE & ROBERT PLANT.......2007-02-07

If you would like to read my full review of this historic concert, please refer to the original 1994 CD album entitled "NO QUARTER" JIMMY PAGE & ROBERT PLANT UNLEDDED.

In my opinion, this live concert DVD which was filmed and broadcasted by MTV in 1994 as part of the new Unledded series, is a true testament and a wonderful tribute to a great band that was truly ahead of its time.

Please note that I am partially reviewing the new 2004 DVD release for this pre-review which should be included with my 1994 CD album review.

Please note that this historic concert is a celebration of LED ZEPPELIN'S music and is not in any way a LED ZEPPELIN reunion.

When you see and listen to certain live concert footage sequences such as the songs "Thank You," "What Is And What Should Never Be," "Since I've Been Loving You," "Gallows Pole," "Four Sticks" and the blistering breathtaking "Kashmir," PAGE & PLANT take LED ZEPPELIN'S Rocker's to another level and add more to the LED ZEPPELIN legend.

Also on this DVD edition, you will get to see and hear new mellower Rockin' rendition versions of LED ZEPPELIN'S most sacred classic songs such as the beautiful "The Rain Song," "Nobody's Fault But Mine," the breathtaking "No Quarter," "The Battle Of Evermore," "That's The Way" and the new beautiful PAGE/PLANT composition entitled "Wonderful One" which was written and dedicated to Plant's late son Karac Plant who died of a deadly virus during LED ZEPPELIN'S 1977 World Tour.

Overall, this is one hell of a concert which helps PAGE & PLANT set the record that has been haunting them for so many years, straight once and for all. As we all well remember, the LED ZEPPELIN saga and legend ended tragically in 1980. If you're not familiar with what happened towards the end of LED ZEPPELIN'S career, please refer to my review of LED ZEPPELIN'S last recorded studio CD album "IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR" released in 1979.

In my opinion, PAGE & PLANT were destined to reunite in order to change the bad note that ended LED ZEPPELIN'S glorious career and laid the band to rest permanently. This bad note was the result of the untimely death of John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham in September 1980. With this new PAGE & PLANT reunion band along with the recruitment comprising of Charlie Jones on bass and Michael Lee on drums, this new line-up has a more new fresh youthful look and has a lifeforce sound filled with raw power and energy that gives LED ZEPPELIN'S music a new sound not heard before. When you close your eyes, you can actually feel the spiritual presence of the late great John Bonham playing through Michael Lee's body and soul and transferring it to Lee's drum kit. With your eyes still closed, you also get the feeling that the spirit of LED ZEPPELIN is alive and performing one more time. I highly recommend that all of you, LED ZEPPELIN fan or not, to purchase this very special priceless gem. This DVD is Rock n' Roll history in the making and highlights the historic reunion of one of Rock's most beloved artists, MR. JIMMY PAGE & MR. ROBERT PLANT. So here's to you Jimmy & Robert. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my pre-review of my other original PAGE & PLANT review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. JIMMY PAGE & ROBERT PLANT RULES. R.I.P Mr. John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham. R.I.P. LED ZEPPELIN (1968-1980) Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.

5 out of 5 stars Something for everyone!.......2007-01-05

I bought this for my grandson's friend (age 15) who is a huge Led Zep fan. He literally jumped for joy! We all sat down to watch it and I was as enthralled as he was. It's a great dvd...music, settings, singing...it's got it all.

5 out of 5 stars awesome stuff.......2006-12-27

first off: why does everyone think this is Led Zeppelin? IT'S NOT! Perhaps the reason John Paul Jones wasn't asked to join in was due to the fact that his inclusion would cause world-wide hailings of a Led Zeppelin reunion, which this IS NOT. sure, having Jones along would not necessarily make this a performance of Led Zeppelin (that can never happen, Zeppelin is comprised solely of Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham, and nobody else), but the rabid attention of the press and fans would cause the whole thing to be misconstrued into something it wasn't. With that being said, this performance by PAGE & PLANT is superb.

2 out of 5 stars Jimmy Page on xanax.......2006-11-07

Very disapointed. Couldn't even watch the whole thing. Led Z moves me, this tapes left me cold.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime.......2006-11-03

Three places, three atmospheres, but only one powerful musical experience. Balanced and beautiful Moroccan and Indian elements interact with Jimmy Page's guitar and Robert Plant's voice in these incredible live performances of Led Zeppelin's best, and Page y Plant's beginnings.
