5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2007-07-06

I've been a PSB fan for way too many years and when I received this DVD in the mail, well, I was blown away! The sound quality is excellent and the image quality is superb. In fact, this DVD has sent me right back into a PSB phase, inspiring me to search for and collect many of the albums I've missed along the way, (while being into other things.) Neil is such an incredible songwriter and these videos totally express that. I have to say, being 48 years old, it's so wild to see this talented duo grow older throughout the DVD, knowing I'm getting older too. One thing is certain - PSB continue to create great music; music that inspires, elates, sympathizes, and complements just about any mood. I consider them one of the greatest bands of all time and watching this DVD confirms this. You'll love this disc, trust me. Some things are worth so much more than their price tag, and this is truly one of them...

3 out of 5 stars Don't get this for the videos........2007-03-14

I have been a longtime Pet Shop Boys fan since the days of West End Girls. I occassionally see a PSB video playing at the gay bars. So when I saw this I wanted to get it. I don't regret the purchase because I'll always love these songs. But from a visual standpoint some of the videos were very dissapointing. For example the video for "Home and Dry" consist mostly of mice in a subway station with an occasional shot of PSB on a stage. Huh? I will probably play this for background music as opposed to watching it for the videos on a regular basis.

Wow, where to begin. I like a small selection of this band's earliest songs; I didn't know much about their later work; I was curious to see two or three of the videos, and decided to see what this DVD is about. I'd heard that they're lauded as pop icons. Now I pretty much get it.

I was surprised at how great so many of the videos are; apparently controversy surrounds some of these, based on nudity and other images. Who cares. I can't get over how perfectly executed the videos are; how great they are *in* them, always making understated but memorable appearances. Chris Lowe's occasional dancing is simple, great and almost iconically memorable, more so than he seems to be aware (based on the commentary track). They're both perfect. It's ridiculous. Their videos are perfect. I didn't like all the songs, but that's another thing. The execution of each song with accompanying images is what gives this, I feel, five stars.

They seem to be such lovers of humanity, if they had any hand in plotting the images themselves. From the families roaming the street in "Suburbia," to the queues of people, all different ages, sizes and colors in "A Red-Letter Day," to the phenomenal and slightly heartbreaking "Being Boring" -- America, where they weren't as popular in their later years, seems really to have missed out. They look older in the last few videos, and they *still* look perfect. Who are these people?!?!

Many people seem quite picky about the *type* of music they listen to. If this is your type, this is highly recommended. If it's not, you should still see some of these videos. My favorite highlights: Some of the bizarre and beautiful images in the latter part of a series of computer-generated videos; the vaguely gritty New York feel of "I Get Along/Email"; the interesting lyrics to "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk"; and the inscrutable, strange pastiche of scenes, reminiscent of Peter Greenaway's work, which comprise the video for "Always On My Mind," to me one of the most perfect remakes in the history of music, and one of the songs I bought the DVD for. I didn't know 3/4 of the material on here. Lucky purchase. Recommended.

Edit: Dear Messrs. Tennant and Lowe, you deride the video for "Red-Letter Day." I think it's one of your best.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the price for Chris' construction workers outfit alone..........2006-02-18

If you like the Pet Shop Boys this will certainly be a treasure trove of visual stimuli, from their first cheesily inept video for Opportunities to their latest, most technologically sophisticated fare. The big treasure in this collection for me is actually the second version of Opportunities that was directed by Zbigniew Rybczynski and which to my knowledge has never been available anywhere since its inclusion in a brief six-song video compilation titled Television back in the late 1980's. This is along with Being Boring my all-time favorite Pet Shop Boys video. Neil Tennant in his double breasted suit and Chris Lowe in his construction workers outfit (including torn t-shirt that you can glimpse his hairy chest through) rewards endless repeat plays. It's funny and sexy and will make you happy as will the rest of this collection.
