The sex appeal, spectacle, and substance of Shakira are in full effect on Live and Off the Record, a combination DVD/CD recorded primarily in Rotterdam in 2003. In many respects, Shakira's show is like those of other contemporary pop divas: tightly choreographed dancing, frequent costume changes, songs (in Shakira's case, sung in both English and her native Spanish) with big, anthemic choruses.... But Shakira's sound is harder-edged than, say, Britney or Celine's; her core backing musicians are your basic two-guitars-bass-drums rock band, and she even covers AC/DC's "Back in Black." She's a stronger singer than Janet Jackson, and writes or co-writes more of her own material (music and lyrics alike) than any of the others; she even displays some passable chops as a drummer. Much of the material here, including hits like "The One" and "Whenever, Wherever," comes from Shakira's Laundry Service, the 2001 CD that was her first to feature songs in English. Ten of the 15 tunes from the live performance are also included on the accompanying audio-only CD, while among the DVD features is a 50-minute documentary. Combine all of that with frequent close-ups of her belly (bare, of course) and her, um, back, and you've an entertaining show by a performer with a substantial upside. --Sam Graham

This is the first Shakira dvd that I've watched. It was very enjoyable and is suitable for all ages. The first half of the dvd was better than the second half, but for her fans the bonus featurette will more than make up for that.

I thoroughly enjoyed her singing.

I love this DVD.

The opening is excellent. The guitar goes; bang.. bang.. bang... Bang.. bang.. bang... After a few minutes of this; the tension rises and Shakira appears like a heathen goddess. The heatheness is accentuated by a giant cobra which appears above her head. Then she sings; 'Ojos Asi'. Then 'Si te vas'.........

And the tension is maintained right to the end...

You see Shakira the rock star here. Shakira is both a pop star and a rock star. Here you get to see her rocker side. Excellent. Don't miss this.

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This.......2007-03-14

OK, I'll admit it: I bought this DVD because I like watching Shakira bellydance. But I soon discovered that I like listening to her almost as much as I like looking at her.

Shakira puts on an amazing 90-minute performance in which she displays her considerable gifts as a singer, lyricist, dancer, and instrumentalist. It's hard to imagine one person having as many talents as this woman, not to mention being a major-league babe in the bargain!

If you are a Shakira fan, this DVD is a MUST HAVE. Or if you simply enjoy great live performances, you will find that it doesn't get much better than this.

This Brilliant Star, from Barranquilla, Colombia, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is "unplugged" in the MTV Unplugged -- a format which showcases the artist in a minimalist environment away from a "las vegas diva" or "latin/hip-hop" environment, Orginally taped in 1999, pre-"Blonding", "Laundry Service", or "Hips", few may have suggested the artist simply known as "Shakira" would need to be "unplugged" (in 2007 climate of "Hips Don't Lie," or "Wherever, Whenever" perhaps unplugging would be in order).

This concert given to an MTV audience is simply sensational!! The enormous strength of Ms. Mabarek's voice combined with a "Grateful Dead"-like jam session, gives real pause to the "Shakira" we are being fed by the Hollywood "diva machine". The harmonica in ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?, makes her legit; "Ojos Así" puts her on the same plane as Sting's "Desert Rose".

Shakira is a remarkable, talented, gifted Artist, who is fabulous in this mtv unplugged concert. The only small regret is "Estoy Aqui", which is 're-vamped' to favor the then popular Alanis Morissette. "Estoy Aqui", an early hit for Shakira, is a true, sincere, beautiful ballad. The unplugged version is robotic, forgettable and slightly annoying.

You will enjoy this DVD. I highly recommend buying; and let's hope for more of the "unplugged Shakira" in the future. If "La Pared" is any indication, I look forward to more fine music from this brillant artist.

best recorded live music ever, done by cinematographers who almost know what they are doing.

some of her best early period songs (missing some of my personal favorites off her still-to-be-defeated first album, with her original collaborator on stage. Okay, a little too much of the contemporary folk-rock influence (Alanis MOrrisette?) but Shakira really overcomes her own material and puts it out. Estoy Aqui!

How in the world can that dopey sourdough bread Mariah Carey now out-do her? Must be a sign of the times. Must be not enough people understand SPanish, and Shakira's English tunes somehow fell flat, just a bit removed from her sincere and heartfelt delivery, underneath her ENglish clothes.

This concert is one o the best I ever seen from beginning to end. What I love the most about it is the fact that it is 100% live and all the famous songs were musically arranged to the ocation. Shakira is THE BEST!!

If you are a fan of hard rock, you owe it to yourself to folloiw this band. They have 3 Cds (one more actually but it's a best of 2)and they are very orignal in their song writing. Andreas Eklund is a phenominal singer.

I bought the DVD, "House of Shakira", live at Firefest 2005, thinking of course, as anyone would think that it was a DVD of the one and only, SHAKIRA. Amazon advertised it with all of the Shakira tapes and DVD's. I had bought two other DVD's and audio CD's and was really satisfied with them. However, don't buy the House of Shakira because it has nothing to do with the real genuine Shakira. All I received for the cheating price that Amazon charged was a bunch of speed freaks screaming their stupid music. I really take the blame for this rip-off DVD. I and you should be aware of all the different ways that Amazon and Caiman.com cheats, probably thousands of customers. Oh, Yes, Of course there's no way that you can contact Amazon or Caiman by phone and get a refund or exchange and of course, they'll never answer your e-mail. Watch your back, because Amazon will stick a knife in it and take your money and won't give you what they represented.
