With graying baby boomers becoming key underwriters of viewer-supported television, a staid Public Broadcasting System grudgingly acknowledged the existence of rock & roll in the 1990s. The Moody Blues, via their somewhat heavy-handed, 1993 concert video A Night at Red Rocks, were among the first Woodstock generation acts to end up in constant rotation during affiliate pledge drives. The band's PBS follow-up, Hall of Fame, is an improvement overall. Taped at London's Royal Albert Hall early in 2000, the Moodies' more freewheeling performance this time mixes satisfying selections from their catalogue of hits from 1968 to 1972 with a few Top 40 entries released in the late '80s ("I Know You're Out There Somewhere," "Your Wildest Dreams"). The sheer pleasure of watching the core quartet of Ray Thomas, Justin Hayward, John Lodge, and Graeme Edge ease their way into Mellotron masterpieces from Days of Future Passed, as well as the trippy curiosity of "Legend of a Mind" and the dizzying pop mutations of "Ride My See-Saw," is a study in grace. Backed by the once-fictional London Festival Orchestra (credited as a key musical collaborator on Days), the band eschews grandiosity for a pointed but delicate yearning, and whips up its typically stately tone of cosmic romanticism. The frenzied joy of a mixed-age audience brings smiles to the Moodies' faces and a sometimes-unexpected vigor to their vocals--catch Ray Thomas's booming "Welllll!" during every chorus of "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)"--which helps to make this program a treat to watch repeatedly. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Livingston I presume!.......2007-06-21

It was wonderful to see the men who created so much beautiful music actually performing it and having so much fun! I have been a fan for over 30 years and went to one live concert of theirs in the 70s. Their music is filled with love and human insight plus it is pure fun! They have an upbeat lilt to their songs that makes me happy. This was an especially valuable DVD because Ray Thomas has retired and he provided much of the "fairy dust" and "pixie glue" that made many of their songs lovingly special. Their last album was as good as their first seven and could be their last. Their music will last, that is for sure!

5 out of 5 stars Moody Blues-Royal Albert Hall Concert.......2007-01-10

Great! I always liked The Moody Blues and This was a very nice way to see a special concert. If you watch/listen with a surround sound, it's like you are there with one of the best seats in the house.

4 out of 5 stars Could have been better.......2006-08-21

Sound quality is good but not the best. Loved "Nights in White Satin" and "Question".

5 out of 5 stars The Moody Blues Hall of Fame. Live at the Albert Hall.......2006-07-30

As a recent user of the internet, The first dvd I wanted to buy was this one being an ardent fan of the Moody Blues for over 30 years. I can honestly say I was not disappointed as the choice of material is terrific! They still have the magic although a little greyer. I was surprised to see so many young people in the audience, obviously the Moodies appeal to young and old alike. The orchestra and the backing girls were excellent, so on the whole this dvd is a must for all, especially Moody Blues fans.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2006-06-12

Now having obtained every Moody Blues DVD in existence, I like this
particular performance the best. I believe the most technically
proficient performance was "Lovely to see you live", but then they
have had a long time to perfect their stage performance.
Is also noticeable that this is Ray Thomas's last appearance, I believe, in a recorded performance. Ray seems to be stiffening up
physically by this time and also using a stool for most of the set.
This is not intended as a criticism, God knows I love them all. I believe Ray retired from the band in 2002 and we will miss his musical composition contributions. There is just some ineffable
quality to this performance that warms the heart. Maybe it is the fact that this show was recorded in their home country.
It is also neat to hear girls screaming for Justin, who is around 55 years old in this show.
If you are a true moodies freak you will probably have this by now.
If not please get this DVD. You will fall in love with it.
