This laid-back, live, intimate session featuring Eric Clapton's bluesy guitar playing is quite enjoyable--if a bit limited in scope. With little lighting and frills and a small group backing him up, Clapton picks up his acoustic guitar and leads the listener down memory lane. Clapton is clearly on his best behavior as he engages in minimal small talk with his audience and lets the music speak for itself. The erstwhile Yardbird and former member of Cream and Blind Faith riffs through some dozen-plus songs including "Before You Accuse Me," "Tears in Heaven," "Walkin' Blues," "Alberta," "San Francisco Bay Blues" (in which Clapton thankfully cuts loose a bit), and his great hits "Layla" (written for his ex-wife, Patti Boyd Harrison) and "Old Love," a standard that garnered big applause. But the simple set and sparse stage can barely contain the energy that fills the arena when Clapton launches into "Rollin' and Tumblin'," a raucous, rousing bit of blues that Clapton is certainly still up for. This video is primarily for Clapton's most ardent fans, providing some heartfelt, soulful instrumental prowess in addition to an aging British rocker singing the blues as well as a white guy can. --Paula Nechak

5 out of 5 stars Simply amazing........2007-07-07

This is the show I saw on PBS...or was that BBC? Anyway, I appreciate his skill as a musician and this DVD showcases his skills. This guy does moves that I can't do, even after I watch him do them! Eric Clapton was turned loose to do whatever he wanted to do on this disk, and it is simply amazing.

2 out of 5 stars ERIC.......2007-05-07

5 out of 5 stars Eric Clapton Unplugged.......2007-04-08

Wonderful. Eric actually talks and displays his great
sense of humor. He interacts with the band and the audience which is rare in any of his recent arena performances. He put a whole new spin on many of his electronic standards-hits.

5 out of 5 stars Clapton is always doing the right thing.......2007-02-26

This 1992 MTV Unplugged video is something everybody should watch at least once in a lifetime. Now that the standard for good music is set really low, a Clapton Unplugged DVD is something that can calm down stressed ears. (I mean, what is hiphop, rap, punk, emocore, and other bad stuff doing on top of the charts?)

The band is doing really good in this video; Clapton's acoustic guitar bluesstyle playing is incredible; Chuck Leavell's keyboards are subtle but quite meaningfull (I place his piano solos here among my favorite one's); Nathan East is always perfect; Ray Cooper and Ferrone on Perc/Drums do it fine and precisely and Andy F. Low is the 2nd guitar player on Clapton's bands I enjoy the most (like him better than Doyle Bramhall II, but not as much as Derek Trucks in the current EC Tour).

Acoustic versions by Eric Clapton: can anything be better than this for a quiet, rainy day with the one you love?

5 out of 5 stars clapton = really really good.......2007-02-25

this comment is a little shout out to K. Tarin "2hard2please2bad" ... all i have to say is... shut - up. OOoo, mister 300 concerts. wow. i am really impressed. Eric Clapton is amazing, and there is no gettin around that. maybe you dont like his tunes, i'm not sure, but there is no denying his talent. tense? you thought he was tense? no sir...he was singing like there was no one watching! and his solos were awesome (for example -- layla or old love. both great solos). he has excellent guitar skills all around -- original and well played. and his voice is amazing, as well as his lyrics.

1 out of 5 stars No "Life Without You".......2003-11-12

I quote the ad copy..."DVD Features:
Songs Include: Before You Accuse Me (Eric Clapton), When The Night Comes (Joe Cocker), Leaving Las Vegas (Sheryl Crow), Pride And Joy/Life Without You (Stevie Ray Vaughan)"
"Life Without You" which is all I wanted, is not on the disk I received.

1 out of 5 stars Caution - Missing Sound In Some Parts.......2002-10-22

I've bought and returned this DVD twice now because the sound on some of the videos is entirely missing. When I first bought the DVD and had a problem I thought I just got a bad DVD - so I exchanged it for another one and had the same problem. Even in the places where the sound is intact, it is of poor quality. The image itself is also not that good

1 out of 5 stars Not As Advertised.......2001-03-30

If you thought that you would be getting a music video like you would be seeing on MTV, think again. This is a cheap taping of the artist playing in a studio.

1 out of 5 stars what a shame.......2001-02-18

I must admit that the DVD has interesting performances on it. Unfortunately, if you have a reasonably good stereo, you will quickly notice the very uneven sound quality of the performances. On some performances the vocals sound just fine, while the backing instruments sound muted and muffled; on other performances the opposite occurs; in a few cases (e.g., Chris Issac) the sound is quite good. I do not know if the original recordings are bad or if the engineering of the DVD is quite poor, but be forewarned: the sound quality of this DVD is quite uneven. I own remastered jazz CDs, originally recorded more than 40 years ago, that sound better than some or the performances on this DVD.
