fantastic and entrancing educational video.......2006-05-04

This video was fantastic. My son who is 3 1/2 years old loves it and has learned so much information from it. The sophisticated use of vocabulary is brilliant. I am so happy to find something out there that gives a toddler and infant the credit for being able to understand and express themselves in an elegant and ambitious way. It is wonderous when a child discovers a whole new language.

This video was especially good for my son who had some hearing issues and the woman speaking and enunciating in the corner (Melissa) was invaluable to him and to his understanding of the material. Children have different learing styles and respond to a variety of techniques, I believe that this video catered perfectly to both the oral and visual approaches in learning.

My child asks for me to play it again and again. Thank you so much for creating an insightful, creative, stimulating and fun video for him to watch.

Only video to keep my son's attention.......2006-04-18

Fundamentals video holds my son's attention with its fast pace, song-like format, and cheerful narrator, whom he speaks to when watching the video. I hope there are more videos to come.

A helpful tool for speech and a fun way to learn.......2006-04-18

I credit Fundamentals for helping my daughter's speech problem. She was almost 2 years old and she did not talk that much. Thanks to the video, which she liked since the first time she watched it, her ability to talk increased very quickly. She started to say more words and also to recognize shapes, colors, letters, and numbers.

Since I found the video very helpful, I gave one to my sister as a gift for my nephew. She first showed it to him when he was 1 1/2 months. He loved it. At first he watched for five minutes at a time. She played the video for him every day, and three months later he could watch it all. This is the only video that he can watch from start to finish without getting tired, and it is her son's favorite video. My nephew also likes the narrator, smiles at her, and tries to talk to her and repeat what she says. My sister said it is really helpful for her too, because while he watches the video she is able to cook and take a shower.

We are anxiously awaiting the next video.

Well intentioned but kinda weird and amateurish.......2006-03-27

This DVD tries to do the right thing, but has no business trying to teach. The narrator "sounds out" the letters incorrectly, and the age-appropriateness seems off. Why are young toddlers being taught shapes like trapezoids and "ovoids" in one scene and their basic colors in the next? Weird mix of concepts.

There is So Much Better Out There.......2006-03-20

Based on the reviews, I purchased this DVD and was really diappointed. Like a lot of the reviews I felt that my son was getting a little beyond the Baby Einstein DVDs. This DVD is really unpolished and the women in the upper left hand corner is really distracting for my son. Additionally, the pace is a bit fast. By this I mean that the woman in the upper left hand corner of the screen repeats what's going on in the screen but she does it really fast and the item in the main screen is flashed. I'm pretty quick, but watching the DVD with my child I though the items were flashing quickly so I can only imagine that my child wasn't getting it either. Five minutes into it, my son got up and left. Such a disappointment and a waste of money. The preschool prep DVDs are so much better, but unfortunately there are only 3 of them (shapes, numbers and letters).

This series (baseball, soccer, basketball, others?) is simply unmatched by others...fun (competition not over-stressed), comprehensive & enormous help for kids learning sports. I don't know of anyone who's used it & doesn't love it. Of course this applies to softball & T-ball as well.

Nothing else like it........2003-03-26

I've looked everywhere for something that would help my kids with the self confidence they need before the first Little League practice. This has helped a lot. Everything is on this DVD. Rules of the game, how to be a good sport and the importance of teamwork. The coach is friendly and gives the kids an idea of what to expect. The kids at the practice learn that they all have worthwhile capabilities. The use of animated characters really keeps them interested. There is just nothing like it available. It's great!

Cut out the inane cartoons........2006-04-05

I agree with another reviewer that the cartoons are painful. My 7 and 9 year olds did not enjoy them very much either. I'm not against cartoons to illustrate points or keep kids interest, but they are particularly annoying. And your listening to someone who loves SpongeBob here. My other criticism is that this DVD, like so many other DVDs and books, demonstrates more drills than skills. However, it does introduce enough information to be useful for my 7 and 9 year olds, and overall I would recommend it for lack of anything better to recommend.

Sportsmanship Returns for Children!.......2005-04-12

Nowadays athletics too often is only geared towards the potential elite athletes and intense competition. This DVD emphasizes teamwork, listening and positive interactions among children participating in soccer. It provides an excellent basis for more children to enjoy soccer (and all sports, for that matter) by showing them that sportsmanship actually makes it more fun everyone.

Families fight over the "G-word" topic.......2005-07-17

This documentary covers three sets of homophobic people and their homophobic relatives. I think many people will relate because the gay people state, "I hate my relative's bigotry, but I still love them." and the homophobes say, "I hate my relative's sexuality, but I still love them."

It is scary to me that there is an anti-PFLAG in existence. But I credit the homophobic relative for speaking openly to the camera.

While this documentary showed a gay male couple, I was very please to see two single gay men. The Ellen coming-out episode ends with her not getting a girlfriend, but most media account show people coming out one second and happily-partnered the next. That may happen over the rainbow, but in the real world, good partners are hard to find.

Unfortunately, and as much as I love Arthur Dong, this was the weakest film of his that I have seen. In his previous documentaries, he interviews many people and they are more than happy to share their thoughts and concerns. In this work, two homophobic groups in the dyads refused to be interviewed. Dong is off-screen constantly raising questions because interviewees on both sides are reluctant to speak. Yes, this is a touchy subject, but I imagine that he could have found more willing participants, especially as much as Americans of all sexualities and religious views loving being in front of the camera.

This is an interesting piece, but I highly doubt that warring factions in families will watch it together.

When I saw the box, I thought FUNDAMENTALS would be just another "me-too" baby video. Instead, it is so unique, both FUNDAMENTALS and FUNDAMENTALS 2 are the only two videos we take on long trips for my 1 and 3 1/2 year olds. They are the only videos to hold both my childrens' attention, given their age difference. And, most importantly for me they are learning when watching it.
