This B movie with noble aspirations is the work of a gifted filmmaker whose storytelling falls short of his considerable stylistic flair. While addressing crises of faith in the framework of an alien-invasion thriller, M. Night Shyamalan (in his follow-up to The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable) favors atmospheric tension over explanatory plotting. He injects subtle humor into expertly spooky scenes, but the story suffers from too many lapses in logic. The film's faults are greatly compensated by the performance of Mel Gibson as a widower whose own crisis of faith coincides with the appearance of mysterious crop circles in his Pennsylvania cornfield... and hundreds of UFOs around the globe. With his brother (Joaquin Phoenix) and two young children (Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin), the lapsed minister perceives this phenomenal occurrence as a series of signs and portents, while Shyamalan pursues a spookfest with War of the Worlds overtones. It's effective to a point, but vaguely hollow at its core. --Jeff Shannon
Description
From M. Night Shyamalan, the writer/director of THE SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE, comes the story of the Hess family in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, who wake up one morning to find a 500-foot crop circle in their backyard. Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his family are told extraterrestrials are responsible for the sign in their field. They watch, with growing dread, the news of crop circles being found all over the world. SIGNS is the emotional story of one family on one farm as they encounter the terrifying last moments of life as the world is being invaded. "It's easy for a filmmaker to blow up the world -- but what Shyamalan does is much riskier. He tries to blow our minds. I was engaged by every inch of SIGNS." - Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper.
Customer Reviews:
Are you the type who sees signs?.......2007-06-18
Signs has much more to offer than Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds." In this reality, the world is populated with numerous signs seemingly hidden in plain sight.
Director M. Night Shyamalan divides people into two camps: The type who believes in miracles, sees signs; and those who think we just get lucky.
Shyamalan's carefully crafted universe has creatures that must resort to warring with other planets to survive... and there is us. Shyamalan's war pits technologically superior creatures against an unsuspecting world, and a shattered world occupied by a clergyman who questions his faith following the death of his wife. Shyamalan goes further than the Sixth Sense, the bone-chilling tale of a young boy ("I see dead people") haunted by ghosts who appear regularly in his life to enlist his help. In Signs, Shyamalan declares not only can we help the dead, the dead also help us.
Another way of putting it: There are no coincidences. From the son's asthma and the daughter's dreams to the brother's baseball prowess and the tragic instance in which a veterinarian's momentary lapse at the wheel claims a life. The plot is a masterpiece in misdirection. Signs opens to an aerial view of crop circles. More signs of the impending invasion appear as the story moves forward. But these are not the signs that we should be looking at. In the last reel, the dying wife who has but a moment to tell seems to be rambling. But it turns out, she was staring into the future, not her husband's eyes.
This movie says we are much more than we seem.
Mel Gibson's character, the grieving Rev. Graham Hess finds himself suddenly struggling to make sense of the many odd happenings at his farm. He already has isolated himself following his wife's death. Of course, his guard is up. But he finds himself awkwardly grasping to cling to his understanding of the new reality. He can dismiss the crop circles in his fields as mischief by pranksters. But, he soon can't deny the mounting evidence and nocturnal visits from unseen and unseeable intruders. Edgy, provocative and well-paced, Signs is a multilayered and intricately woven piece to try and digest in an afternoon at the theater.
I was first struck by Shyamalan's study of how his characters cope with the increasingly apparent threat. The no-nonsense son Morgan immediately seeks out a book and a curious and chilling element to this story, a baby monitor. The brother Merrill who has taken a room over the garage to help the family turns to the TV. The youngest, the girl who must be about kindergarten age, believes she is dreaming. It is the father, Graham, who is not coping well living in denial. But who can blame him?
"There is no one out there to help us. We're all alone," our resigned and frockless clergyman declares.
The final scenes are well-constructed to induce fear. Shyamalan masterfully pulls all the pieces together at the end. If you were impressed by Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, you will enjoy this offering... again and again.
An excellent film from theSci-Fi genre.......2007-06-13
This is one of those films that my wife dragged me kicking and screaming to see in the theater, but as has often been the case over our thirty-six year marriage, it turned out to be one that I would end up adding to my collection.
Normally, Science-Fiction films either bore me greatly, or scare me out of my wits, but this story is quite different. Not only is this a well-made, tense and exciting story of an attempted alien invasion of Earth, but it is also a very touching and actually inspirational story. Mel Gibson plays a former minister who totally lost his faith as the result of his wife's tragic death, but eventually finds it once again as a result of an exciting encounter with aliens. Beginning with the appearance of "crop circles" in his corn field, then in other locales around the world, followed soon by other strange "signs," Gibson finds himself trapped by the aliens in his home, with his two small children and his younger brother, played well by Joaquin Phoenix.
If you have not seen the film, do so. If you have not added it to your collection, do so. The climax alone is worth the purchase price, and it is surely a film you can watch with your children.
A wonderful surprise ending........2007-06-08
I just love this movie. I am a big M Night Shyamalan fan as well as a big Mel Gibson fan. This is one of my all time favorite films and the kind of film I can watch over and over again. As with all of the Shyamalan stories their is more going on than the main story and you don't find that out til the very end of the story and then everything make perfect sense to the veiwer. I will not spoil the ending here either. So get the movie and have a wonderful time.
Huh?.......2007-05-31
Not a film for everyone, aliens once again threaten the earth this time broadcasting their arrival through crop circles. I used to live in the area where this was filmed. It was nothing like this. The overpopulated Bucks County seems in this film to lie on the edge of nowhere with people terrified of crop circles of all things as if they had never seen or heard of one before. The setting and dialogue and general character reactions did not seem true even for a moment. This is not to denigrate a fine cast including an underrated Mel Gibson who is always a lot more talented and intelligent than people give him credit for. But the story did not make sense and those wimpy aliens... Grab a big stick and beat them with it and save the world. All the pieces are here. All that was needed was a coherent screenplay.
birthing tales while the aliens circle.......2007-04-19
The opening scenes of this mock-horror film, accompanied by the incessant cawing of crows, are terrifying, reminiscent of Mr Hitchcock's mastery.
Then comes the humor. Rarely has so much ironic, self-deprecating humor been laid down so consistently in the Scary Movie genre.
This is classic Mel the Hilarious, before the establishment painted him Conflicted and Conflictive for daring to portray the violent demise of Jesus and for his gigantic miscalculation while talking to a trooper while quite drunk.
'It was very dark', he and his somewhat perturbed brother played by Joaquin Phoenix, perturbed that is until he achieves his redemption at the end of a baseball bat whose other end was the undoing of an alien. It's hard to describe an alien that makes its appearance by scampering on the roof when it's so inconveniently dark.
Yes, there are aliens in this movie. They are even green and humanoid.
We get to them after the Mel character's tragic loss of a good priest's wife, his near loss of his two children to the hatred that comes when a good father lets the unthinkable happen to Mommy, and the loss of things that Gibson's enormously capable face allows us only to guess at.
'It's not "Father" any more', he insists, in abbreviation of all that has been lost but feels like it's been renounced. It hasn't been renounced, only placed on pause while Gibson deals with the kids, his brother, the aliens, and then the recovery of his faith after angry honesty has run its course.
This is the perfect Sunday afternoon movie, best capped off by a nap and then a 'snacky plate', as Sunday evening hints at a bona fide meal are known in our family.
Who would have thought it? The aliens hate water.
Yes, there are aliens. For an afternoon. Then they go away.
They didn't like the water.

This freewheeling parody tosses horror movies, Eminem, The Matrix, and much more into a cinematic blender. Scary Movie 3 centers around Cindy (Anna Faris, Lost in Translation), a bubble-headed young newscaster who believes that a deadly videotape has some mysterious connection to the aliens who've been making crop circles in the cornfield of a local farmer (Charlie Sheen, Young Guns), whose brother (Simon Rex) hopes to win a local rap contest. Along for the ride are Queen Latifah, George Carlin, Anthony Anderson, Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy, Jeremy Piven, Camryn Manheim, Ja Rule, dozens of rap stars, and Leslie Nielsen as the President of the U.S. No need to have seen the first two Scary Movie flicks--though a few of the characters recur, the movie leapfrogs from gag to goofy gag, plundering The Ring, Signs, and The Others as needed. Silly and slapdash, but with a decent dose of laughs. --Bret Fetzer

Scary Movie or Dumb Comedy? .......2007-03-13
Well there both. This film has some original characters from the first two movies, but new ones that makes this film almost a two star film. After I saw the second "Scary Movie" I thought Whoa, this is a load of crap. When I heard they were going to make another one, I almost didn't go, but I like the "Naked Gun" movies and decided to go. I still like the characters Cindy and Brenda and the movies new humor. What I don't like is its dumb characters (like the president) who's jokes are plain dumb (the pee coming out of the finger).

Chariots of the Gods.......2007-05-17
Based on Erich Von Daniken's controversial text, this early 1970s documentary classic inspired a slew of similar drive-in movies throughout that decade, including the ever popular "Outer Space Connection". It is also responsible for heavily influencing the original "Battlestar Galactica", and its auspicuous elements can also be found in "Stargate" and "Alien Versus Predator".
Basically, the premise behind "Chariots of the Gods" is that each of our cultures has been influenced/shaped by extra-terrestrial visitors. These entities have helped advance various civilizations culturally and technologically, as well as theologically. Indeed, Erich Von Daniken theorizes that Earth's religions, including Christianity, were inspired by extra-terrestrial intervention, and "evidence" of such can be found in any number of anicent artworks.
The movie presents its case in an almost casual, but enticing way, ultimately proposing that many so-called Earthling-made "wonders" (like the pyrmaids) could not have manifested if not through high-tech, alien assistance. When all is said and done, some viewers may be convinced that, indeed, many of Earth's grandest accomplishments could not have occurred if not for the grace of these creatures.
Whether one subscribes to the notions presented in "Chariots" or not, the movie proves quite enthralling and does open the mind for any number of intriguing possibilities. A sweeping, ethereal soundtrack also enchances the viewing, giving it a magical/mystical feel.
For fans of 1970s "alien visitor" and "mythical monster" documentaries (which includes the popular Sun Classics entries), "Chariots" will inevitably prove to be a sentimental favorite. It's no big budget extravaganza, but it sure is lots of fun.
My husband loves it.......2007-05-08
He's still reading it and cant put it down! I guess that means it s good!
A Real Gem and Fun to Watch!.......2007-04-12
A film that makes you go 'Hmmmm'.
I first saw Chariots of the Gods in a theater as a kid when it was re-released back in the mid Seventies. I remember having trouble going to sleep that night! Since then I have attained a degree in science, and still think that it has much merit.
Sadly, this is a film that few people seem to be able to see anymore, at least I haven't noticed it making the rounds on mainstream television or cable in the last twenty five years or so.
The transfer was excellent and made from a well-preserved print. I noticed few flaws in this thirty-five or so year old film. There is an extra of pictures, but there are only like eight pictures? Why bother? That part was like a carnival sideshow ripoff. Also, the bio on von Daniken is a short text of one page and was not informative at all. There are scene selections and true to their word a movie trailer.
The film is an interesting whirlwind of exotic location shots that if nothing else shows the viewer some very interesting sites. The musical score is hard to describe-in a sense it is eerie, but it also has an overall upbeat, 'hopeful' or optimistic tone. I get the impression that this film was not made originally in English? I do like the narrator's (male) voice and keeps your attention. There are also a few places where the narration is handled in an interesting manner. Also, the actual filming and editing was excellent and well thought out. It's as if there is a new surprise awaiting you around every corner.
The documentary also includes some support from a couple of other individuals, one of whom was a Soviet scientist and I found this to be rather interesting given the times. But I feel that von Daniken's arguments supported by the visual evidence were more than compelling on their own.
I can't help but to compare this film to a Nova episode that dealt specifically with von Daniken's book and thus many of the things in this film. A few things, at least in the book, were shown to be out and out fabrications. I seem to remember Nova trying to provide an alternative explanation for such things as (don't quote me...been many years) the 'Baghdad Batteries'. Since then I have seen these batteries presented as being exactly as what they appear to be by science-ancient batteries.
In fact, it seemed that the makers of the Nova film were in an Okham's Razor competition with von Daniken in trying to provide rational, simple explanations for rather exceptional ancient works of art, stories and artifacts. I think it was mostly a tie. 'We' still don't know how or why the Pyramids, nor Stonehenge, the Nazca Lines nor many many other things were built in ancient times. Shame on von Daniken for not giving our ancient ancestors very much credit for coming up with these technologies themselves, but the same can be said for mainstream science which seems to be more and more in the position that ancient peoples were more advanced than we thought and much earlier in time than previously thought.
However, traces of nicotine in Egyptian mummies and a bronze (brass?) computer from an ancient shipwreck does not jive with what mainstream social and natural scientists traditionally present as 'fact' (dangerous word there at any rate). My point is that mainstream science has had to (as science is supposed to) back down and rewrite its theories as new data and explanations come to light. So mainstream science does not have an absolute corner on the truth market and what was poo-pooed in the past as nonsense and fantasy has many times gained acceptance (the existence of ball lightning comes to mind).
It would have made a very interesting DVD package if they had included the Nova episode for a few bucks more as this episode is largely forgotten and is collecting dust somewhere.
von Daniken did not say that every single headdress or ceremonial garb were based on ancient astronaut space suits, but what he does present are artworks of things that still look like space suits and advanced controls no matter how much these things are relegated to the mystical fantasies of ancient artists by mainstream scientists. Interestingly, it is only in the context of modern technology and science as he points out that many of von Daniken's suppositions even begin to make sense! For instance, why does an ancient Mayan observatory look like a modern observatory? What is the purpose of that if they indeed had no telescopes?
All in all, I think von Daniken's explanations are at least as good as any offered by conservative science. A powerful, imaginative presentation that actually enriches one's view of our ancient ancestors and does not denigrate their capabilities at all. These hypotheses actually add a new dimension of wonder and excitement to our collective past.
I definitely plan to watch this over and over again. It is a superior documentary in that it is not inundated with talking head PhD s or self-styled experts and allows the viewer's mind/imagination to decide the validity of what he is seeing with only suggestions on the part of the writer.
It is refreshing to see a film that still makes you go 'hmmmm' even after all these years.
good.......2007-02-21
Although this book contains great insights about events in history and how they could be linked to higher life forms, it bores you after the first half of the book. all in all. a great read.
Visitors from space .......2007-01-21
I saw the movie over 20 years ago, I read the book back then and now I have the dvd. it is fantastic as a study guide to our visitors from space.I know we are not the only pea in the pot in this mass universe.

Signs meets Sixth Sense meets Abrams.......2007-06-11
Scary Movie 3 is the best of the 4 out there! I love Signs and this movie is a great knock-off of it and Sixth Sense. If you love the spoofs, this one is a must-have also! Get the popcorn out!!
I love these movie!!!.......2006-11-27
The scary movie franchise keeps getting better, come on pt.4 Charlie sheen/MJ fight scene is worth the price of admission alone!
Alien lifeforms watch Pootie Tang!!!.......2006-09-04
This movie really saw the Signs
It circled round The Ring
Then reloaded the Matrix
And went battle rapping
It seems there was an evil tape
That was in circulation
In seven days you wound up dead
Amid much tribulation
Cindy found out that the tape
Came from the Architect
He mixed it up with Pootie Tang
Another movie wreck
Charlie Sheen mocked Mel Gibson
A fallen village pastor
His better half got cut in two
(a marital disaster)
With square crop circles in his field
And a girl drowned in a well
Charlie's got real problems
And he's seen his share of hell
One thing about this movie
It'll never leave you cold
It even has three stars who made
The Playboy centerfold

Description
For decades, mankind has witnessed the mystery of crop circles the often beautiful but always baffling markings that appear in fields the world over. Previously dismissed by skeptics as the work of clever hoaxers, crop circles are now the focus of increasing scientific investigation. How can complicated crop circle designs appear in just minutes, often in complete darkness? Why does the crop undergo changes at the cellular level? What about the strange lights which appear over the fields where crop circles are found? Are crop circles the product of new military technology?

Outstanding documentary.......2006-07-29
If you are interested in the phenomena of Crop Circles, this DVD is a great place to start. This documentary examines all the terrestrial explanations including plasma vortices, hoaxers, etc. Each is, in turn, dismissed as inadequate. The very important distinctions between hoaxed and genuine circles is examined at some length. And then there is the Dave and Doug story. In 1991 these two pubmates convinced the mass media that they were behind the mystery in the fields. The question, of course, is why did the media pounce on them? And the answer is because they were the first and only down to Earth explanation; hence, mystery solved. But the real hoax perpetrated by Doug and Dave was on the media itself which with thoroughgoing gullability accepted their version of events and declared an end to the story. Henceforth the news could dismiss the story. But despite the mass media's long standing disinterest, the story goes on and the mystery deepens as the evidence accumulates and the studies intensify. The bottom line is that either there is a "natural" terrestrial cause for the crop circle, or there isn't. And if there isn't, then that opens up a new can of worms that most people would rather not peer into.
A number of experts, including the well-known Colin Andrews and Michael Glickman, are interviewed and each adds an informed perspective on the complex puzzle that are now referred to as "agriglyphs." For instance, Dr. Nick Kollerstrom, a Fellow at the Royal Astronomical Society, uses the complex designs of crop circles to teach a "holistic geometry...that shows us a different experience of mathematics..." Indeed, new conceptions of math and physics seems to result from the study of these cereal pictograms, especially, as Dr. Kollerstrom notes, "in the past 12 years" when the complexity and progressive themes of the formations provide a window into new areas of mathematical study. New geometric theorems and correlaries have been deduced from the study of the abstract configurations of the circles. Despite this, the media continues to persist in its obstinant refusal to acknowledge the investigations that mathematicians, physicists, botanists and other researchers have been conducting for at least the past 15 years.
In sum, this DVD is a fascinating account of a phenomena that refuses to go away, and seems to point to only one conclusion - that an intelligence greater than our own is behind these curious and sublime marvels.

Customer Reviews:
entertaining, yet biased.......2006-03-07
Teams of human circlemakers have been creating very complex crop circle designs for decades. This fact is well-documented, with many easy-to-find accounts in various publications in print and here on the internet. I was disappointed that Gazecki almost entirely ignored that perspective on the debate. Instead, this documentary places a heavy focus on unexplained/paranormal perspectives. Humans are quite capable of quickly creating very complex designs. While this certainly doesn't disprove paranormal explanations, this fact should have received more attention in this film.
Secondly, I would have liked to see more credibility behind the scientific evidence that is presented. The film describes teams of scientists who have investigated crop circles, yet focuses entirely on the research of an independent scientist with no apparent institutional affiliation. Furthermore, peer-reviewed publications are the standard mechanism for presenting novel scientific findings. Were these results taken from a peer-reviewed publication? If not, why should anyone consider these conclusions to be scientific? Again, this doesn't disprove anything, but this is an important consideration that is left unaddressed. Scientific research must meet basic standards, not defined by research that some groups may consider "scientific".
As far as entertainment value, this film is top notch. In my heart, I "want to believe" and am quickly swept away by the possibilities.. lots of interesting ideas are presented by a number of passionate, eccentric folks. But my stubborn, skeptical nature still persists, and for good reason.
An intelligent and probing film.......2005-12-17
Complex geometric linear and circular patterns in which vegetation is squeezed flat against the ground have appeared overnight in wheat and cornfields in 70 countries worldwide over the last 25 years. These designs, generically referred to as crop circles, seem to be created out of nothing and originate from nowhere. They are exquisite works of art but who is the artist? In his documentary, Crop Circles: Quest for Truth, Oscar nominee William Gazecki (WACO, The Rules of Engagement) interviews researchers, scientists, philosophers, and laymen in an attempt to unravel the mystery of their origin and nature. Gazecki does not approach his subject from a journalistic framework, presenting pros and cons in a conventional matter, but as a filmmaker who is telling a story with astounding implications. There are no easy answers. The formations reflect a Sacred Geometry incorporating the Phi or Golden ratio that exists in ancient architecture and art and throughout terrestrial biology including human body structure. As one researcher states, "there is a force or energy at work that is governed by principles that are beyond the capacity of human beings".
Crop Circles: Quest for Truth begins with archival footage of single circles from the 1980s, and then continues through the next decade, showing the deepening intricacy of the pictograms. The patterns have now evolved to the point where in August 2001 a formation appeared at Milk Hill, Wiltshire containing 409 circles making up a wheel design that is larger than two football fields. The film displays the largest collection of crop formations ever seen on screen and includes footage of strange balls of light hovering above the ground in areas where crop circles later appear. Though the documentary is a bit academic in places, tending toward the scientific and technical, the formations themselves are so breathtakingly beautiful that the film becomes an awesome experience.
Gazecki interviews scientists who look at changes in the plants or soil that are both physical and molecular, characteristics that have yet to be reproduced by man-made designs. They also discuss germination anomalies, cellular anomalies, intricate and well-structured lengthening of the nodes, exploded nodes, burn marks, and even unnatural radioactivity, all of which cannot be the result of simple mechanical flattening. The documentary considers alternative theories such as plasma vortex, the circles as three-dimensional shadows of a four-dimensional object, and electromagnetic energy from the Earth but does not spend much time with them. Also mentioned but not probed is the possibility that the patterns are man-made. It would have been interesting to hear from those who openly create circles and see how and why they do what they do. One researcher mentions that if crop circles were to be hoaxed, they would all have to be done night after night without any mistakes or partial designs and completed in five hours. This is without being discovered, leaving footprints, or being detected in any way.
Gazecki is not in doubt that some kind of conscious intelligence is at work, dancing with us, playing with us, allowing us to confront what is possible in the universe. The film, however, does not support oversimplified hypotheses like ETs or UFOs but prefers to view the phenomenon as simply an unknown. As one researcher explains, whether or not we ever succeed in unraveling the code, the very act of asking "why" allows us to expand our consciousness, and this may be the real purpose behind it. The crop circles may indeed be "mandalas of the mind", a term that Buddhists describe as "a representation of the universe, a consecrated area that serves as...a collection point of universal forces guiding man towards a state of enlightenment or awakening". Whatever its ultimate source, the appearance of the formations has made us aware that we live in a universe full of mystery and wonder, that science and conventional religion may not have all the answers, and that we all have a cosmic source that is now beckoning to us. Crop Circles: Quest for Truth is not a slick entertainment package and it does not always flow smoothly, but it is an intelligent and probing look at one of the most intriguing mysteries facing our planet. If you see this film and I recommend that you do, please watch it with an open mind. It may be the most important film you ever see.
Excellent Documentary on Crop Circles.......2005-11-28
"We're being forced to consider that this universe has all kinds of intelligences all around us that we've been ignoring...mysterious other intelligences." - From the DVD
Director William Gazecki highlights the science and art of crop circles in his 120 minute DVD Crop Circles: Quest for Truth. This levelheaded DVD interviews crop circle expert Colin Andrews as well as scientists and crop circle enthusiasts.
Before 1990, crop circles were simple and scattered. However, as time went on, they became increasingly complex in the form of insectograms, fractals, and other geometric patterns. In fact, at the crux of sacred geometry and crop circles is the Golden Mean, which is a ratio of "small to the large is large to the whole".
Interviewees relate fascinating stories of crop circle sightings, including seeing infamous glowing balls that often float around the circles. For example, Andrews relays a story about flying over Stonehenge, photographing the stones, then going back to refuel the plane. On his way back-a mere 25 minutes later-there was a spiral crop circle amidst Stonehenge...in broad daylight!
There's a liberal amount of science in the Crop Circles: Quest for Truth DVD. For example, scientists discuss how seeds from crop circle plants grow differently than the control group. According to one scientist, there had to be some kind of strong energy-perhaps microwave-pulse or plasma energy--to turn parts of full-grown corn into "exploded nodes".
One fascinating account told of 109 circles made one rainy night-with nary a broken plant, footprint, or trail!
While hoaxsters make some crop circles, the question that many have is at 200+ crop circles every year, what is the payoff? No money is involved and supposed hoaxsters remain largely anonymous.
There are tons of extras in Crop Circles: Quest for Truth, including:
* Colin Andrews talks about the CIA (He says that they tried to get him to say it's all a hoax)
* Mysterious magnetic particles left at the scene of circles
* Military helicopters arriving at the same time as the balls of light
* Extensive photo gallery of hundreds of crop circles
* Interview with the director
The best part of this DVD, in my opinion, is the jaw-dropping crop circles in the photo gallery. Whether made by man or something else, there's no denying that these beautiful displays of organic art touch the soul and evoke feelings of wonder. A nice mix of science, speculation, experience, and intriguing footage, Crop Circles: Quest for Truth is a great DVD for those interested in the crop circle phenomenon. The crop circle photo gallery alone is well-worth the price!
One of the best I've seen yet.......2005-03-01
Highly recommend this DVD to those new to the Crop Circle phenomenon. If you think two old guys can make circles round the world year-in-year out then this may not be for you.
There was a lot of great info and interviews on circles, how circles can be diferentiated from hoax circles.
The extras on the DVD were even more intresting.
Stop reading the review, buy it already and see for yourself!

Low budget alien invasion movie........2006-08-26
I should have known if it had Stephen Baldwin in it with top billing it was going to be a stinker. The only part I liked was the last 10 to 15 minutes. Because it had a decent ending I'll give it two stars instead of one.
Good Low-Budget Thriller.......2006-07-12
Obviously inspired by "Signs", and hampered by a low budget, this is nevertheless an impressive little thriller. The performances are all quite good, and some real tension is built (the film takes its time in building, which is great) but the climax leaves a little to be desired. The CGI is lacking, but most of the film does not rely on effects to build the suspense, but instead upon the characterizations and situations.
It's nice to see a movie where the characters don't act stupidly, too, the way they usually do in horror films. Worth seeing.
Ed Wood back from grave, writes/directs Signs-like bomb.......2006-02-17
If Ed Wood were undead today, this is the movie he'd make. I rented this because I saw it next to _Signs_ alphabetically and decided to make it an alien crop circle double-feature.
After the credits rolled, I tried to retrace where I had gone so drastically wrong. I remembered noticing that the movie co-starred Billy Zane, who knocked me over in _Dead Calm_, and Stephen Baldwin, who was a principle in _The Usual Suspects_, another one of my favorites. How bad could it be? Only on further reflection did I realize those movies were made in 1989 and 1995, respectively-- an average of 13 years ago. Since then, there haven't a whole lot of major leading roles for either actor. So maybe they'd take a buck to read some crap out loud.
And boy, do they ever. Where would I start? Let's just say that whatever you like about movies-- whether it's character development or cool special effects or convincing dialogue-- this movie doesn't have it. This movie doesn't have it, in spades.
By all means, watch this movie. Then you can say you have seen possibly the worst movie made so far in this young millenium.
What about those reviewers here who gave the movie 5 stars? They're playing a mean trick on you. Believe me.
Good movie, but just not for my taste.......2005-10-03
I think the title of this review says a lot. Silent Warnings is one of these movies that only fans of its genre like. Don't take me wrong. Despite it's a low budget film (given the amounts of money some blockbuster movies cost this years) they do a really nice work.
The movie is character-driven, and the plot circles around a group of six people played by little known or not known at all. They do a terrific job. The characters are very belivable and they really put you into the story. Stephen Baldwin appears in only the first 3 minutes of the movie and does an ok job. I believe they only hired him to sell the movie, but they couldn't afford a first-line actor for the whole movie.
The music is not great, but somehow they manage to create a good thriller-like mood and ambiance. The lightning is good, given the fact that all the action takes place in the dark. The special effects are ok, considering the low budget. The aliens are a little weird, but at least they're not cheesy.
The story is ok. There is not any background info about the aliens, their origin or their intentions, and the end of the movie is a little abrupt. The movie would have been much better if they had elaborated the story a little more.
Bottomline: This is a good movie, with a good direction, great cast and nice production. If you're a Sci-fi fan you will love it. If you don't like sci-fi movies a lot, you might find this movie only good for a rental in a rainy night or maybe you'll think it's just a waste of time.
Creepy Cornfields.......2005-02-08
This plays like an alternate version of Signs. A young man inherits a small farm when his cousin dies in an accident. Ha and a group of friends visit the farm in hopes of fixing it up and selling it. But what is going on in the cornfields?
Crop circles appear in the corn and noises are heard. Someone sees a figure. Then someone disappears. At this point things start to really get creepy. The dead cousin seems to have thought there were aliens in the corn and even claimed, on video, to have captured one. Could aliens be involved? Could they be something else?
While the exact nature and origin of the creatures is not definite at the end of the film, there is an adequate explanation. Like Signs there is a high level of creep factor in this movie with many things seeming to be just out of sight. There are some nice twists in the plot, and the ending, that help make the film feel original and fresh.
The only problems I had with the film was minor. The farm seemed to be just a house and some cornfields. There were no sheds, barns, silos or other buildings and a lack of farm equipment. This is explained in the extras as the house was built in the field just for the movie. But it is just a minor thing and not really a problem. The other was pounding a for sale sign in right in front of the house where it can not be seen from the road 1/4 mile away.
If you like creepy horror movies with heavy atmosphere or really liked Signs, you will probably like this one.
