1 out of 5 stars Consider seeing this film only if you think that believable scripts, good special effects, and originality are overrated.......2007-05-13

It's no accident that there never was another "Jaws" movie after Jaws the Revenge. Even the movie Deep Blue tried hard to avoid being thought of as Jaws 5. Why is that?

Probably because this sorry piece of filming terminated the giant shark in more ways than one. It's NO exaggeration, whatsoever, to say that this film works better as an unintentional comedy than as a horror/science-fiction movie.

If you are thinking of renting or, heaven forbid, buying this movie I will refer you to something that lambasts this movie better than I can. Do a you tube search for "richard jeni jaws 4" and you'll find a short entertaining video that gives Jaws the Revenge a proper mockery. A more accurate title would be Jaws the Joke or Jaws the Ripoff.

Here are my rankings of the Jaws movies:

Jaws: 5 stars (only one worth owning, get it)
Jaws 2: 3 stars (ehh, I guess there are worse things you could do with your time than seeing this inferior sequel)
Jaws 3: 2 stars (starting to get crappy)
Jaws the Ripoff: 1 star (only because you can't give 0 stars on Amazon)

1 out of 5 stars This time, it's bad! .......2007-03-14

I saw this movie on TV since there was nothing else on and I must say that I couldn't stop laughing. The movie is so bad, that it is a comedy! In the begining of this movie, they start off by saying that the events in Jaws 3 never happened (reason why it's called "Jaws: The Revenge" instead of Jaws 4) and that the sharks from the first two movies were the new sharks parents. So the shark follows the Brodys to kill them all! What a dumb plot you must think, but it gets even worse by the bad acting and action. In one scene the shark jumps out of the water and locks it's jaws on a plane! Come on, I bet the guy who wrote "Basic Instinct 2" could do a better job.

1 out of 5 stars This Got Made.......2006-12-22

I just saw the end of JAWS: THE REVENGE again on latenight cable TV--where it belongs--and I'm still stunned by the incredible lameness of every aspect of this movie. For everyone who quibbles about the unlikelihood of finding a Great White in the warm waters of the Bahamas: this shark also roars. Like a lion or something. A roaring shark. You read that right.

The filmmakers also keep cutting shots from the original JAWS into the climax. As a reminder that there was actually a good film at one time here? A distraction from how horrible this one is?

They paid Michael Caine enough to be in this stink bomb--but obviously not enough to wear a wet shirt after climbing out of the ocean. His expressions often convey that he's there but you're lucky he's at least facing the camera.
Was there something better he could have been doing? Yes. Picking up his first Oscar for HANNAH AND HER SISTERS. But he missed the Oscars to be in JAWS: THE REVENGE. At least he went on national TV to admit that he did this movie because he had a home right there in the Bahamas (he even pointed at the house during the interview).

The demise of the roaring shark is a baffling, badly-edited violation of all of our natural laws and logic. Shark rises out of the water. Boat rams shark. Shark explodes. Boat explodes. Everyone survives, even the annoying Jamaican who got chewed up several minutes before. Roll footage clearly the same of the blown-up shark sinking from the original.
Wow. It's that bad.

The tag line for this movie was "This time it's personal."
They were right.
That studio's really got it in for us!

1 out of 5 stars What a crap!.......2006-10-02

Looks great but don't get trusted, this is the worst killer shark film ever! The shark looks so fake and during all the movie he only killed like 4 people and that's it. So please don't see this movie I'm warning you.

1 out of 5 stars Attack of the Roaring, Plastic, Killer Shark!!!.......2006-09-26

After a Great White shark kills her youngest son, the widowed Ellen Brody comes to the realization that the shark is after her and her loved ones. As ridiculous of this might sound, it turns out that she's right. The vengeful, grudge-holding fish follows the grieving woman along with her son, daugther-in-law and niece to the beautiful Bahamas, I guess to seek revenge? For what, you ask? I have no idea.

The scathing reviews this film has received from those who have watched it are justified because this film is unbearably bad. The film-makers thought that in order to make a JAWS sequel, the story must involve the Brody family. In JAWS 2, chief Brody battled another over-grown Great White and in JAWS 3, the Brody sons battled an even bigger shark in Florida's seaworld. In JAWS: THE REVENGE, the homicidal fish returns to torment the Brody's yet again. Talk about an unlucky family. What I do not understand is why is this shark after them? Didn't the shark die in the original film? Didn't the second shark "cross over" during the sequel's climax? Is this shark somehow related to the previous sharks; maybe a spouse or a sibling or a cousin? Maybe it wanted to avenge the murder of it's relatives? Maybe "Bruce" was somehow resurrected in a Jason Voorhees/Mike Myers kind of way and the scene ended up in the cutting room floor? Help?

Another intriguing factor in JAW: THE REVENGE is that the shark roars. Mighty "Bruce" roars just like the T-Rex in Jurassic park and if that wasn't enough, it can also jump out of the water and stand on its tail, kinda like Flipper. I was waiting for Michael Caine to throw it a Mackerel and ask it to do a back-flip. Speaking of Michael Caine, he gives the most annoying performance of his entire career.

All kidding aside, JAWS: THE REVENGE is definitely the worst film in the series and qualifies as probably one of the worst sequels ever made. The acting is not too bad (Michael Caine being the exception) and I have to give credit where credit is due because you can tell that Lorraine Gary and Lance Guest were taking their roles very seriously and it's a testament to their talents that they were able to keep a straight face throughout this film.

The film's horrible climax only adds insult to injury. After her niece was nearly eaten up by the hungry fish, Ms. Brody decides to seek and kill it by herself without any weapons of any kind whatsoever. What was she expecting to do, run the shark over with her boat?

There are 2 endings to this film, both equally bad. The original ending had "Bruce" being impaled by the Brody's boat. After the film's release and for the Video editions the ending was changed and had the beast mysteriously explode upon impact. They also had Mario Van Peebles' character miraculously come back from the dead which mean this installment has the lowest body count in the series.

From the lame plot to the lame, plastic roaring shark to Michael Caine's utterly charmless performance, JAWS:THE REVENGE is a travesty of the highest order. Not even the gorgeous Bahamas locale can save this laughably bad film.

At least Michael Caine got a house out of it. The viewer is not as lucky. Skip it and re-watch the original instead. 1 out of 5.

4 out of 5 stars times of terror:worst air disasters.......2006-03-06

The program was good,it had lots of information on airplane crashes.

1 out of 5 stars Terror is a bit of an overstatement..........2002-12-30

Granted, I love plane crash video because it is my secret creepy obsession, so almost any footage is pretty okay by me, but this video was terrible. There were mistakes in identifying some of the planes, and really, if I wanted to know about military jets, I'd watch the history channel. Not to sound morbid or anything, but I was hoping for a lot more flaming wreckage.

1 out of 5 stars No Thanks.......2002-01-06

Although there were some interesting scenes involving a few disasters, I felt that this DVD was cheaply thrown together and not worth my money. I was also surprised at the amount of mistakes in the DVD, If you buy it, buy it used. Thumbs down.

3 out of 5 stars Not the best video on air disasters.......2001-05-24

If you are looking for the definitive word in airline disaster video, while this one has some outstanding footage, try Survival in the Sky, which unfortunately is only available on VHS.

It appears to me as though this production was hastily done. Consequently, this video focused too much on some much older air disasters, and thus an in-depth investigational aspect is lacking. In fact, it only goes in-depth on the TWA 800 disaster, leaving some inadequate voiceover to handle the rest of the footage.

The video even misidentifies a key part of the Air Florida Palm 90 crash into the Potomac River, stating that a policeman jumped into the icy water to save a drowning passenger. In reality, it was a passerby, which in my opinion was a crucial element to the story.

One upside was I thought that the video had more and better footage of some recent crashes than some other videos I have seen.

Worth the [price, but] not much more [than that.]

4 out of 5 stars A Must See.......2000-06-11

For aviation Enthusiast this is a must see movie since DVD is a new thing this has some of the most up to date crashes.

1 out of 5 stars Very Unfocused........2007-07-01

Substantive opinions about Noam Chomsky aside, let me first say that this was an incredibly low quality documentary with very little in the way of production value. There are several black frames interspersed throughout the film for no apparent reason and the Japanese songs that make up its soundtrack are just plain weird. There's also no central narration and what it amounts to is just a sequence of clips with Mr. Chomsky speaking in his ultra-confident, detached, and low intensity voice. No unifying theme is presented and the topics stray from WWII to Nicaragua to Turkey to Israel to Britain to 9/11, but, of course, even if it is not directly stated his viewpoint can be summarized as full-time anti-Americanism. Basically, in Chomsky's mind, we're the real terrorists so we don't have the right to respond once we're attacked. That's a pretty accurate summary of this icon's opinions. Chomsky made important contributions to linguistics many years ago but has said little of substance since. He thinks he is being very clever when he says that you can't have a War on Terror, but of course you can as we can hunt down members of groups who have declared war against us and/or take responsibility for terrorist acts. Bono thinks that he's a rebel without a pause, but Chomsky's a faux rebel. There's no danger in being a citizen in American and hating your own country. Chomsky's been doing it for 40 years and nothing's ever happened to him and nothing ever will.

5 out of 5 stars Exposing Western hypocracy.......2005-10-01

Chomsky speaks when others are silent. He takes on double standards seen throughout the established political spectrum. Discusses how it is inconsistent and hypocritical to support the American invasion in Afghanistan, while at the same time adhering to humanistic principles. Even though this was an invasion accepted by liberals, the US media and scholarship does not use the same standards when analyzing attrocities by (read: other) rogue regimes.

4 out of 5 stars Good content, bizarre editing and interludes.......2005-08-08

The companion book for this DVD is excellent, one of the best places I could recommend one to look if they were interested in a brief but detailed account of what Chomsky's political analysis is all about. This DVD has much of that content, but there are numerous flaws.
The first flaw you will notice is the bizarre music which starts the film and recurs several times. Secondly, the editing just seems to have been done rather hastily... beyond that there is a sequence in which some random people are seemingly forced into responding to what they thought of a talk, which is kind of off putting... and there is a strange montage (interlude?) of footage of people walking around NYC, which makes little sense.

Content-wise, there are some great lines of thought offered from Chomsky himself, though the editing job sometimes doesn't allow those threads to be developed, and the jumping from one thing to another can leave an uninitiated viewer probably a bit perplexed.

The footage of Chomsky dealing with a barrage of questions and autograph requests after talks is interesting to see and the interview sections taken from his office (or some classroom) are very insightful.
A lot of what ends up in the video seems a bit focused around some quicker summarial nuggets of wisdom that Chomsky most likely elaborated on further, but the editing again seems to cut much out.

I like this of course, and there is a lot here. Still, this could have been done a lot better. It seems very rushed. And with DVDs being what they are, why not include full footage of some of the talks or interviews as extras, so that people could learn more?

It's good, but I would recommend Manufacturing Consent first, or the Distorted Morality dvd (which is one continuous talk, with bonus question and answer footage which is also insightful). The Rebel Without a Pause dvd is quite similar to this one in some respects, though I find the content of Chomsky's talks included in Power and Terror to be a bit more useful.

All are good though of course and in spite of the above criticisms, I thank the filmmakers for the opportunity to view the portions of these talks which they have collected.

If you want more info though, read the book (and his other books as well, then follow his sources and recommendations!)

5 out of 5 stars Clarity in the fractal information labyrinth.......2005-05-22

Through a series of interviews and lectures, this movie provides a coherent framework for interpreting historical and contemporary events related to use of power and fear of terror by states. While the U.S. is used as a "case study", the analysis provided here remains sufficiently general and applicable to other powerful nations. The DvD commences with the basic and unambigiously clear definition of terrorism as stated in the U.S. army manual and works its way up to vague interpretations employed by powerful governments and news-hungry media. Chomsky's contribution in this DvD is to examine what happens if this unambigious definition of terrorism offered by the U.S. army manual was applied to the action of the U.S. government; or if the rationale used by the U.S. to justify a particular action were actually applied by less powerful nations. The Chomsky framework for exploring this topic goes well beyond a single nation or government, or a particular time period in history. Much of the ideas in this DvD have already been discussed in other Chomsky books; but this DvD weaves them well together. Highly recommended.

Gabriel Katul,

5 out of 5 stars Definitely 5+ stars, but.... poor production.......2005-03-16

The information is outstanding and should be required viewing by ALL military personnel, especially the young and ignorant who sincerely sacrifice their lives for a trumped up war that has NOTHING to do with 9/11, Osam Ben Ladin, or Saddam Hussein, but instead it has to do with one thing: oil, oil, and then more oil and the Anglo-American need to dominate that oil.

The production is poor! It reminded me of the first attempts at recording that a highschool audiovisual club would make. The editing is worse. (And what is with the Japanese folk songs in the background????) Please!!!! (No, I am not xenophobic; I love the study of foreign languages and have an interesting collection of Asian folk music, but such music has no place in this film. I would write the same if it were Arlo Guthrie playing in the background.)

Get by the hideous production and editing goofs and pay close attention to the MESSAGE. If you are an instructor, you MUST show this to your students. If your institution bans it, tell your students to watch it through the library system.

These two films, "Texas Terror," and ""The Trail Beyond" are two great B-westerns starring a young John Wayne. I really enjoy these films. Sure they are not the best written or acted films in the world, but they are entertaining to a very high degree. Everyone should see how John Wayne started out in pictures and compare that to how he finished his career. This serves as inspiration to everyone that human beings can improve themselves to an immeasurable degree.

5 out of 5 stars Times of Terror : Disasters in Space........2000-07-31

Houston We have a problem. At that time the computers and communicatins which were in use to keep in touch with Earth to On going Space Vechile had only fraction of the power you can see on this computer you are sitting it. Good Graphics and enjoyable as well as educational. Those who like Stanley Kubrick's 2001 and 2010, will enjoy this.
