On March 9, 1931, the SS Viking left the port of St. John's, Newfoundland, and sailed into motion picture history. On board were New York filmmaker Varick Frissell and an unusual crew of seamen and Hollywood movie people. Their mission: to shoot the final scenes for an epic feature film on the lives of Newfoundland sealers. Six days later, an accidental onboard explosion killed Frissell and 26 other men.

White Thunder, directed by native Newfoundlander Victoria King, is a gripping account of that tragic adventure and an exquisite tribute to an early film pioneer. Born in 1903, Frissell grew up on Manhattan's moneyed Upper East Side and studied at Yale. Caught up in the early fad for home movies and mentored by renowned documentarian Robert Flaherty, Frissell quickly grasped the potential of the emerging genre. In 1921 he attended a lecture by Dr. Wilfred Grenfell, who had established medical outposts along the isolated Labrador coast. Frissell went to work with Grenfell and was overwhelmed by the stark beauty of the landscape. With two successful documentaries (The Lure of Labrador and The Swilin' Racket) under his belt, he secured the backing of Paramount Pictures to make a feature sound film. Frissell and his large crew hauled heavy camera and sound equipment to the rolling ice floes of the North Atlantic. The legendary Bob Bartlett (captain of Robert E. Peary's expeditions to the North Pole) plays himself, working alongside the local sealers and American actors. Tragically, with the explosion, the shot-on-location melodrama turned into one of Hollywood's worst disasters.

Description

Nothing is what it seems as Dino eggs bring out a risky kind of Zord-play. A brand new alarm surfaces when Mesagog and henchwoman, Elsa, hatch a plan to stop the Rangers. The wily White Ranger is born from their blunder, and the Power Rangers have no idea who he is! As Dr. O is about to reveal White Ranger's true identity, he gets fossilized. The Power Rangers will have to work together closely to subdue rad Dino Zords and their most powerful foe yet -- White Ranger!

it is oone off the best power ranger shows and on this dvd you see a loot. of action and advencher and power rangers .find the idanty of the mistyes whate rangers if you power ranger fan you like it.

This is a fantastic video. I think it is one of their best videos for this year in the Dino Thunder series. Tommy is back as the black ranger. Trent, a new character, doesn't know the white power is too powerful for him. This show is a very mysterious and suspenseful.

just reading the other reviews on this page just goes to show how stupid americans are, i mean, did they even watch this movie? Its the worst movie ive ever seen in my life! It uses recycled footage, it uses an Israeli Kfir fighter as the 'secret' fighter, it has bad acting, and so many other reasons why its crap.

"Black Thunder" is one of Michael Dudikoff's best films. This is what action films should be: just straight, all-out action without a lot of doppy romantic scenes and excessive language. The film rockets along at the speed of the top secret jet Dudikoff is trying to recover, and the film's over before you know it. If you're a fan of "military-pilot-trying-to-recover-stolen-top-secret-prototype-fighter-jet," then don't miss "Black Thunder."

i've been a fan of Michael Dudikoff ever since i saw American Ninja and have watched his acting evolve. would love to see him in more films that has the potential for box office hits.

This was a very predictable movie until the end which I will not give away, but don't expect resolution or any happy ending.

This film might have been decent if only they would have stuck to the book. The film carried similarities to the novel but also change the setting and the characters. The movie takes place in Montreal for some reason, not the island like in the book. The relationship between Dillion and Jenny was completely different than the book but I think for the better. The only good part about this film was the actor Kyle Mclauchlen who did a magneficient job as Dillion except for the major physical differences between him and Dillion. See this movie if you are a major fan but rent it first.

Maclachlan Thunders With a Smile.......2003-06-07

If you like espionage action with light humor, sexual tension and lots of high-energy tackles (on the fighting gun-toting front, anyway) you'll appreciate this movie. There actually IS a plot too!! I liked it most because I like Kyle MacLachlan. His screen presence never fails to disappoint, from "Dune" to "XChange." Check it out!!!

Boy, did they mess up Jack Higgins's original story! And that's a darn shame, 'cause I think Thunder Point is one of his top thrillers and deserved better treatment. So give this movie a big miss if you're looking for the quality action the original novel had to offer.

Hardcore Higgins fans should avoid this like the plague.......1999-08-03

I'm a big Dillon fan, so when I saw this I had to watch it. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. Many details in the story, including Dillon's looks, (He's white blonde with hard, clear eyes, not dark haired! And he's short, too!) the heroine's character, and the eventual outcome were completely ignored. And I'm sorry, but that submarine looked really crappy. This is one of my favorite Higgins books, and I can't believe they slaughtered it.
