Another good distribution from Brentwood Communications (Pride and UFC). Didn't know much about JJ Machado before this video, what a classy guy. It is basically a worship biography. JJ is inspirational due to the fact that he is at the top of his game while being born with no fingers on his left hand. He is fascinating due to his level of class and professionalism, his family connection to some of the more famous Gracie cousins and his own brothers, and due to the many celebrity friendships he has developed. Some of the historic footage is a little grainy, but that is what you expect with historic footage. I would have given it 5 stars if the DVD had subtitles, if more opponents/dates/location of matches were identified, and if it was longer. It is video that makes you want to know more and watch more (thats a good thing). Some people new to BJJ might find his fights a little slow, but that is jui-jitsu and that is an indirect affect of JJ's confidence and patience on the mat. I also wish they had included footage of JJ's MMA fight against Frank Trigg. I would rank this DVD right behind Choke (Rickson Gracie), and The Smashing Machine (Mark Kerr) for those interested in BJJ and MMA.

I just finished watching the DVD last night and thought it was a great DVD for the price. I stumbled upon this and didn't know what to expect. For less than $15 this is a great buy. Great production value.

"Machado: Heart of the Champion" is a 60 minute look at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Master Jean Jacques Machado (cousin to the famous Gracie family). You hear Jean Jacque Machado talk about his career in BJJ and his philosophy behind what he does. Also appearing are some of his students. The video has several fights from his career including some footage from Sambo tournaments.
