Ghost Hunters with scary sound quality.......2007-07-07

Ghost Hunters is a great show. We've enjoyed watching every episode. My only issue with the set is the sound quality is fairly poor. Maybe they sould have a different company master the discs before putting out season three.

Hi folks, I recently purchased this dvd set (part one and two) and i did read the reviews first, i am such a fan that i decided i had to have this. It seems parts of episodes are left out and the picture and sound quality is not as good as it should be and I am surprised that Ghost Hunters allowed the fans to be sold such products.. It could have been better, but all in all its 19.99 so its one of those things where you get what you pay for. For the money folks Ill pop this in the player on a Saterday night and be fine with my purchase. If your a die hard gh fan youll deal with it.. shame on the company that puts it out though! Ps. If you read the reviews and make a informed decision, you wont be surprised.

Very good addition to the ghost hunters collection. Maybe need not to seperate seasons down so much. Person that it was ordered for loved it. Had nothing but good things to say about. Makes a great gift for peolpe that love ghost stories.

Sound and picture are good on my TV.......2007-06-23

Not to argue with the many previous posts reporting sound and picture quality problems, but this plays just fine on my Sony HD-DVD player and Sony HDTV. The discs are not HD formatted, but my HD-DVD player plays regular discs as well, and I've never had a problem with the picture or sound. In fact, the picture is good in comparison to some older TV shows that I have on DVD. I'm just posting to let people know that the discs really do look fine on some TVs, because I was reluctant to purchase these after all of the reviews regarding the quality of DVDs. I don't know what explains the difference - possibly having a HDTV? Anyway, it does look and sound fine on my set-up.

I bought vol. 1 & 2 and volume 2 has the best cases. TAPS documents several ghosts in this one. My only complaint is the sound quality on disc one.

First, let me point out that Ghost Hunters is a mixture of people hunting ghosts, as the title suggests, and a show about people working together under a lot of stress. Not just the fear and discomfort of trying to find ghosts in haunted houses and dark buildings, but also the pressure of working with a team of demanding fellow ghost hunters who all have their own skills, egos and day jobs.
It IS a Reality Series after all, with tons of cussing, people pushing each others' buttons and some yelling. But it also shows how to hunt ghosts. No, really, each episode breaks it down, showing us how they do a walk-thru, gather information and than filter it, looking for something solid in what could be hours of worthless video, tape after tape of silent audio and tons of photos that show zip.
Some of the places, like the Lighthouse Inn, have been on the History Channel. Many of the places, while being scary, don't really seem to be haunted. Or at least they can't find anything. Lots of orbs, some voices on the tape that nobody heard before and, yes, a moving chair. A chair that is clearly moving, on tape, when nobody else is AROUND. In a lighthouse. A haunted lighthouse. Not to be confused with the Lighthouse Inn. I would suggest grabbing this DVD set. Some parts are scary and some parts are not. But there is a lot of beeping going on, so be warned. Not for kids.
There is also a book in the works, so keep an eye out for that.

I bought this as a gift for someone else, by the way HE LOVED IT! Not only did he love it so much, I wasn't that much into it until I bought this season for him, now it's official, I'm addicted! Great show, great investigations, great people, this is a MUST for any ghost hunter lovers!

oddly addicted to this show, I must confess.......2007-05-18

I bought Season One on DVD because I had only seen Season Two on television, as I am a fairly recent convert to the show. I enjoy the show and find these investigators all so interesting to watch. I love watching each episode. The drama in the investigation. The drama behind the scenes as they try and work together. So fun! I also LOVE the fact that they are all 'skeptics' and when they see a ball of lint flying across the camera they are honest enough to say, "that is just a ball of lint" rather than... ooh it must be a ghost orb. Whenver I have ever watched other ghost shows I get so frustrated when they point out "orbs" because it is obvious to me it is lint or a bug. So silly! I love that they don't use psychics or anything hokey like that. I admire that they try and debunk stuff rather than take things at face value, or assume everything is supernatural. Good show. Recommend it highly. The new episodes air in June, I can't wait!!!

Good Investigations Without Being Exaggerated.......2007-05-03

So many programs, such as Discovery Channel's "A Haunting," attempt to re-create events using bad actors, poor special effects, and other things to make the experience as scary as possible to the viewer. Believe it or not, I actually like some of these shows. But, when I discovered Ghost Hunters, I found that I was really fascinated!

The biggest reason I like Ghost Hunters is that it's all legit. There are no bad actors, because the hunters are playing themselves, and we get to follow them on their quest to investigate possible paranormal sites. There are no special effects. They will show you how they use electromagnetic readers, thermal readers, and other equipment in their work. It's actually very fascinating.

A lot of the time, they don't come up with any concrete evidence. Sometimes, they will come across something that is definitely questionable. However, even when they come across something that has a strong chance of being something paranormal, they will attempt to disprove it and debunk their own evidence. There was one episode in a hotel where they really thought they'd caught an image on the thermal device. Later, one of their team members was able to figure out that it was actually the reflection of the investigator holding the camera.

These are probably the last guys that would conclude that something is paranormal right on the spot. They approach everything with a very keen, scientific perception.

There aren't a lot of scary moments in this show. If that's what you're looking for, you might be disappointed. If, however, you are keenly interested in seeing how ghost hunters/paranormal investigators operate, then you will probably find this show to be extremely intriguing.

Best Of...contains missing episodes from 2nd Season........2007-01-26

If you have Ghost Hunters Season 2, Vols. 1 & 2, you'll notice that two episodes are missing. The Top 20 countdown and the Halloween Special, both of which are contained on this "Best of" DVD. But note, these are the only 2 episodes on the disc. While I'm glad that these episodes are available, it seems dumb to put them on a separate disc when they were a part of the regular season. A double dip? You make the call! The Halloween Special is particularly of interest to fans because it's where Brian Harnois is allowed back into TAPS, making its omission from the season confusing.

While I love having Ghost Hunters on DVD, please "powers that be," hire a different company in the future. These transfers and audio mixes are the worst ever. Because they're so bad, I'll only rent these titles instead of buying them. If, however, they rectify these issues, I would buy them in a second.

If you love the show "Ghost Hunters" on Sci-Fi you will absolutely love the dvd sets. It is jammed packed with great episodes that made me want to watch even more. Great people on the show and a great crew make it easy to enjoy. Excellent dvd package and I recommend it to any fan out there of the show.

I love the show and I miss it during the 'off season' so this was a great way to catch good investigations I may have missed or re-watch my favorites.

These guy's are the best I've ever seen. If you can handle the truth, then this DVD is for you. They don't say every little thing that happens is real. They check every detail.

Best Of? T'ya, Right! -- Convincing? Hardly........2006-12-23

This dvd purports to be the "very best of" this series, but it is anything but. First off, the first fifteen minutes or so has little to do with in the way ghost hunting, rather "introduces" the various persons involved with TAPS and is in fact quite boring. I couldn't care less that these guys are plumbers and have wives that are pissed off with their preoccupation with the paranormal. When we finally get around to the various investigations they turn out to be quite mundane and at times frustrating to watch because of the apparent amateurishness of the investigators. If these guys have been doing this for as long as they claim, it certainly doesn't seem like it. And in the end, despite the claim in the blurb on the gack of the dvd case that watching these episodes would convince one that ghosts really do exist, they certainly don't. Sadly, the two episodes that seemed somewhat promising are not included in the dvd, although they are mentioned briefly in the "in the next episode" segment of two of the episodes. What's more, in the five minute bonus feature in which two of the investigators discuss their favorite episodes, both the lighthouse and penitentiary investigations are agree upon as being favorites, while--if I remember correctly--only two of the fore included in this video are mentioned, and not with much enthusiasm. I just can't recommend this dvd.

Not really the VERY best.......2006-07-12

I love Ghost Hunters, so no episode is a bad episode to me, but I think the title of this DVD is a little off track. During Season one there were other shows which were far more interesting than the few that are included here. The DVD is also poorly edited, lending to large gaps of nothing inserted where the commercials would have been. If you really want the best of Ghost Hunters I suggest you invest in the complete first season. Jason and Grant ROCK! Unfortunately, this DVD does not.

This is a very good show and hope to see more. They really present their investigation in a very professional manner and some interesting evidence comes out in this episode this time around. It's a great team covering each of their respective area's of research to find out geniune paranormal activity. I'm still not sure what to make of the demonic sound captured in the basement. Very eerie but cool! Hopefully you can go back and figure out what the heck made that sound! All in all, it's worth the money

Sober documentary.......2006-02-13

Caution: Do not confuse with the Sci-Fi Channel's series of the same name!

No theatrics here, just sober investigations into several purported hauntings. This is not a "balanced" documentary: The emphasis is on evidence in favor of the proposition that these hauntings are real. The film features extensive witness monologues instead of sound bites intercut with special effects and spooky music, as is too often the case in this genre. Some, including at least one reviewer here, may find this approach dull. I found it informative and serious. Usually I find shows like this funny or embarassing.

We shot this series back in the UK in 1997 and it was the first of a whole host of "Paranormal" programmes on TV. It came long before "Most Haunted" and the like, and was the Discovery Channel's biggest programme in the UK with over 4 million viewers.

All the stories were so well researched, I believe it is still one of the most honest ghost documentary series ever produced.

My main appearance was in The Phantom Schoolmaster (Disc 1), and that one episode took almost 4 days to shoot which is something not heard of nowadays! The research was real and the stories came from reliable witnesses.

But I could be biased! Have a look for yourself. If you don't like it then you can sell it on an auction site!

After all, there must be something in it. Discovery are still re-running it in the UK after 8 years!

All four "Ghosthunter" DVDs are well worth your money and time.
It is true that the episodes are all based in Britain, and that's just fine. England is the ghost capitol of the world!
All episodes are well written and very well done. There is a good bit of English history thrown in of course, because you need to understand the haunted area in order to appreciate the haunting itself.Do yourself a favor, if you are a ghost buff, and buy these DVDs. You won't regret it!

I don't do martial arts films. However I did enjoy the first three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which may be why I liked this film. It wasn't a great work of art by any means, but it was cute in it's own ways. (Can one use the word "cute" to describe a martial arts film?) A bit cartoonist that doesn't take itself too seriously, it has a kick butt female "good guy" (Julie Lee), an over the top "bad guy" (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and the "in between guys" (Michael Madsen and his crew) that makes it all work. Julie Lee's fighting skills are good, as were most of the fighting scenes from this novice's eyes. Even Hatch was throwing some decent punches. I would watch again (and have).

Nothing deep or challenging here, just a fun good guy, bad guy martial arts film with plenty of action and enough humor to balance the violence and bad language.

Fans of the '70's television series 'Kung Fu' will recognize the plot immediately. Female assassin and martial arts expert Jing (Chung Lai) known as "the Ghost" flees China to America in an attempt to escape a corrupt law enforcement officer demanding her execution. Her whereabouts are soon discovered and she is pursued to America. Soon violence erupts in the streets of Chinatown in Los Angeles. Will her reputation as the top assassin of the Tong clan be enough to defeat both the Chinese police and American law enforcement and bounty hunters. YOU BET!

Definetly one to watch if you haven't seen some of these stars for awhile. You will be pleased the action is quick and sharp.

Pleasantly Surprised.......2003-11-08

This is an action packed thriller with enough humor to blot out some of the bloody scenes. It's about an assasin who was raised by the asian mob but disobeyed orders so she had to escape to the US to save her life. However the corrupt bad guy played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is not about to make her escape since she embarassed him before his people by giving him a beating. One of the most memorable and funny line was when Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's character killed his girlfriend and declared "I have the worst luck with women"

Good mix of humour and mayhem........2003-02-06

After her warning to a Tong rival is rebuffed by the retaliatory slaying of her associates, the young assassin is spirited to the United States, where she is to live quietly until further notice, with a well-to-do business man who has been groomed into believing that she is his romantic - by e-mail - correspondent. Little does he suspect that her goggle-like glasses are the least of his worries.

But the man she has tangled with back in China - a chief of detectives - is relentless in his pursuit of her, and her cover is quickly blown, because of interdepartmental links with the LA police department, and their tie in with a bounty hunter and his team.

This is a moderately gory, yet comedic film, with fairly obvious filches from: Leon, The Assassin, Blade Runner, etc. The acting is all decent enough and the general production values are as good as most of Jackie Chan's output. The assassinette's dialogue and delivery is a riot, but not risible.

`Get dressed, Edward... we have unexpected guests.' She says calmly, as her killers close in.
