4 out of 5 stars Bringing the Genre to a new level.......2007-06-26

David Decoteau brings terror to a new level. The acting is sporadic, but the visual quality is very good, and there's lots of great looking guys in this film, for women (or men) who would find that fact appealing. The "special effects" could be better, but they serve their purpose. Continuity is fairly good (only a few things caught my eye). Enjoy it for what it is, if you're into the genre. ~ Leeches

2 out of 5 stars Still Not The Worst..........2007-04-19

Ok, the "leeches" are rubber leech-gloves on someone's hands, the swimteam is a collection of non-descript male models who cannot act or afford shirts, and the females are utterly useless. Yes, the plot is imbecilic and the dialogue is horrific. Still, I've seen worse. I have seen FRANKENSTEIN ISLAND, my choice for the movie most worthy of total annihilation! So, LEECHES is only painful, not deadly! However, that doesn't mean it's any good either! This is a movie you would only share w/ someone you hate...

2 out of 5 stars Stinker.......2007-01-15

If you like young nubile male bodies in speedos, you may want to see this film, otherwise, boy is it a stinker, it's not funny bad, just bad

5 out of 5 stars I really liked it!!.......2006-10-01

I got this movie for the eye candy alone. Ok, it's corney and at times very stupid, but it is very good for it's genre.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun.......2006-09-12

This movie is hilarious. I'm just going to assume it's supposed to be bad. At one point I actually saw the string that was pulling the leeches along. And in the scene where the guy takes a shower, his skin colored shorts are clearly visible in several shots. The guy who I thought was the main character, I guess, wasn't because he was killed off about two-thirds of the way through. The main character is the nerd who looks like a super model and dresses in a tank top and 3/4 shorts. He looks like he belongs on a runway instead of a lab.
My FAVORITE scene is when one guy tells another guy to take some pills and the other guy says "How many" and the guy says "The whole bag." LMAO! And then the moron shoves a handful of pills down his throat and washes it down with some liquor. LMAO! I mean...this movie MUST have been made to make people laugh at how stupid it is.
I loved it.

4 out of 5 stars Not a bad movie........2007-07-03

Another pretty good urban drama to have in your collection. These may not be the best actors in the world, but they will most definitely do. In fact, i think all of the "Trois" movies are pretty good to have in your collection. Brian White is actually not a bad actor. He's been in a few good movies.

4 out of 5 stars GREED, DECEPTION AND CONTROL..........2007-02-27

Something for everyone in this one. I enjoyed this one more than the first, but not as much as the second.

Overall, this was a good movie and I recommend it to others. Especially if you have seen the other two.

5 out of 5 stars "Another Good Movie".......2006-09-27

I really like this one also. The ending caught me by surprise.

3 out of 5 stars So-So.......2006-01-20

For the Trois series to be low budget films, I enjoyed the first two. However, The Escort did not do anything for me. It was an ok movie, but I felt that it was missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. Rent this movie it you can't get it for a bargain price.

2 out of 5 stars you should skip this one.......2005-03-30

This movie is the worst of the Trois series, believe me. The acting was second rate at best, the plot was weak and the main woman in the story pictured in the background on the box cover was cute but not all that appealing to me.

I've seen all of the Trois movies and each one up to the second one got better, but this one was a major bomb. The story revolves around an up and coming rap artist who turns to becomming a male escort in order to pay off his debts. He meets a woman who gets him established in the business, she runs his affairs, cares for him and becomes quite attached to him. Soon, he learns that paying off his debts are the least of his problems. He falls in love with one of his clients and things begin to fall apart from there. The scenes had no spark to them and the actresses seemed to be trying too hard to be something that should come almost naturally.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best that Hallmark has put out.......2005-09-11

I loved this film; I kind of wish it would get the Oscars; Unfortunately, it was originally aired on TV: You have these two boys born on the same day; One is black and the other is white; They hook up and become the best of friends; Yet, this is 1940s Georgia; And the black boy's sister gets pregnant presumably by her white employer, then someone turns up dead and things get right ugly. Dean Cain plays the sheriff, who just coming back from WW2, wants to see the right thing done, yet, the prejudices of the time seem to want to stay the same although clearly, times were a-changing; Maya Angelou has a pivotal role as a seer; You can't help but love watching her especially when she hollers "Justice Is Served" in the courtroom. Debbie Morgan, a great yet underrated actress has the role of the black boy's mother; And a performance she gives indeed. A good Hallmark movie indeed;

5 out of 5 stars Raskolnikov Meets Dr. Phil.......2006-03-06

Dr. Phil: My first guest tonight is a man who has some impulse-control problems.

Raskolnikov: What do you want? When will you leave off tormenting me?

Dr. Phil: Hold it right there. Seems to me you need an attitude adjustment.

(Raskolnikov turns abruptly and stares at the wall.)

Dr. Phil: Says here you murdered an old lady for her money. You murdered her, and then you murdered her sister. What were you thinking?

Raskolnikov: (Making a violent effort to understand what it all means) I murdered myself, not them! It was the Devil that killed them. Enough, enough! I killed a noxious insect of no use to anyone, so what is the object of these senseless sufferings?

Dr. Phil: You need to get a grip on yourself, and you need to take some responsibility and make healthier choices.

(Applause from studio audience.)

Raskolnikov: (Breathing heavily, his upper lip twitching.) My choice was to be a great man dedicated to improving the lot of humanity. The vast mass of mankind is mere material, and only exists in order by some mysterious process to bring into the world at last one man out of a thousand with a spark of independence.

Dr. Phil: Let's talk about the independence thing, since you brought it up. You're still receiving money from your mother, isn't that right? And you have a college degree but no job? And recently you've embarked on a life of crime?

Raskolnikov: The extraordinary man has the right to find in his own conscience a sanction for murder, if it is essential to the practical fulfillment of his idea. Our rulers destroy men by millions themselves and look on it as a virtue. They are knaves and scoundrels.

Dr. Phil: Ho ho, well I'm not an expert on politics, but don't you think you have enough problems of your own to keep us busy here? I understand you're in love with a prostitute?

Raskolnikov: Sonia is a woman of the utmost purity whom I love with a Christ-like intensity that drives me to torment and humiliate her.

Dr. Phil: Be honest with me now. Don't you think she'd prefer a relationship in which two healthy people come together because they complement each other on an equal footing of respect and love?

(Applause from studio audience.)

Raskolnikov: (Grinds his teeth.) A dull animal rage boils within me.

Dr. Phil: We need to extinguish these self-defeating behavior patterns of yours.

Raskolnikov: Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart.

Dr. Phil: I one-hundred percent disagree. You can do better than that. Now I understand Sonia can't be here tonight because she's ministering to the needs of plague victims, but once you get out of prison for those murders, supposing this Sonia's still waiting for you, what do you think
you'll have to do to repair the damage you've already done to the relationship?

Raskolnikov: My mind is clouded and I am almost unconscious of my body.

Dr. Phil: I'm sending you to the green room to do some figuring.

Raskolnikov: Why must you persecute me with kindness, when I would rather boil over with a rapturous agony. (Laughs insanely.) Perhaps I am really mad, and all this happens only in my imagination.

Dr. Phil: Nope, you ain't getting you off the hook that easy. Fact is, you are accountable for your actions. What I'm asking you to do is take responsibility. Are you willing to give that a try?

Raskolnikov: (Bows down to kiss the earth.) Good God, man is a vile creature.

Dr. Phil: Do we have a deal or not?

Raskolnikov: I could strangle you at this moment. Why must you torture me? I feel a physical hatred for you, cannot bear you near me, and am becoming convinced that you are the most aggravating bully on the face of the Earth.

Dr. Phil: You see, now we're getting somewhere. Pain, once it's acknowledged, can be a powerful motivator.

Raskolnikov: Be silent, I beg of you. (Shuddering nervously, a malignant expression in his black eyes.) I am a louse, a wretch, a fool.

Dr. Phil: It's time for you to identify and confront the behaviors that are making you unhappy. I always tell people, you don't need a diploma to hose down a mule.

(Standing ovation from studio audience.)

Raskolnikov: I feel sublimely indifferent to your opinion. (Walks toward the exit.) No, I retract everything I have said, your words make perfect sense, you are a seer, a god. (Bounding out of the studio, his voice carrying from afar.) If only I had met you before I became an axe
murderer, perhaps I would now be among the saints.

Dr. Phil: Oh boy.

(Raskolnikov returns after a tumultuous inner struggle, pushing his way through a dense crowd of peasants.)

Dr. Phil: We're going to take a break now.

Raskolnikov: (Strikes Dr. Phil repeatedly on the head with the blunt side of an axe, then leaves overcome with remorse.)

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps first time a movie has ever lived up to the book.......2006-03-05

Brillant screen performance of one of the best psychological stories ever. Beautifully done in black-and-white this version holds completely true to the written work so much so that you could follow along with book in hand from scene to scene. While completely in Russian, the mesmorizing performances and emotionl feel of the film come through just as powerfull to non-Russian speakers.

I first caught this version on TV while living in Moscow, and ironically had just re-read Crime and Punishment the previous week and as such would usually have just passed it by. However the performances of Sofia and Raskonikov are so powerfull and captivating that I found myself sitting completely through it from start to finish (and its quite long at nearly 4 hours). You will be haunted by Sofia's performance and her eyes, the tremble of her voice; this perfectly innocent soul comes of the screen in her unspoken words. Just as memorable from this version is Raskonikov's performance as he slips into insanity, and again her the highlight comes from what he doesn't say.

All in all an enjoyable version for all. Those who already know the story will find new love for it in the two passionate performances of its leads. While those who have perhaps never read the book will find it easier to understand because of the powerfull emotion that transends the words.

There's quite a number of vampire stripper films already out there; Blond Heaven, Vamps, Vamps 2 etc.

This one follows the same formula. It's not any worse, but it does have some really stupid moments in it, especially the ending.

Take for instance a vampire stripper goes out to a guys van to have sex with him and to feed. They're in the back of the van when she bits him he throws her off, jumps to the front of the van and begins to drive off. Why? She's still in the back of the van. You can't drive away from someone in the same vehicle!

Why's an immortal vampire running a very small strip-joint, anyway? He should have heaps of money; having made a killing in long-term investments.

Buy a real adult film or watch some skinamax for an hour and 15 min.
    Do not spend a dime on this garbage. Action = 0, Plot = 1, Gore = 0
    Soft core at it's worst.

This fails on almost all fronts, acting, setting, dialog, eroticism and plot, cute twist at the end gave it an extra star.

4 out of 5 stars It has Evan Stone!.......2004-12-18

In defense of this film, yes it is truly bad. The plot hilarious, the acting bad, and the ending is truly horrific (not in a good way). BUT it has Evan Stone (the Adult Film Star) and he is truly mesmerizing to watch. He is the only reason this film is watchable at all and you can see why his career has taken off so well. If only you could see his great scene! This DVD is NOT the movie they show on TV. It has been CUT. All the remotely sexy parts have been cut out, and it ends up being just a little over an hour. Catch it on Late Night, it's much better.

    1 out of 5 stars Just a waste.......2004-07-04

If you are looking for something sexually exciting, then this ain't it. I'm looking at it now on HBO & it's pathetic.

2 out of 5 stars Seth J. Frantzman Got It Right- Good Actors, Horrible Director.......2007-06-25

It's funny because this film does pull you in and intrigue you at first but it completely falls apart a little over halfway through. The 2 lead actors and the French sister-in-law are great. But even they can't save this mess from a director who obviously thinks that any stupid idea that he comes up with is flowing with artisitic brilliance. By the time the viewer is hit with his surprises toward the end, you just don't care that much because this film has already had more twists than a Chubby Checker concert and the characters are not that well developed. As someone who was at Ground Zero and traumatized by that experience I came away feeling cheated and offended by yet another retarded attempt to cash in on the tragedy. I thought this was going somewhere interesting when the female lead starts talking about her experience that day but unfortunately this ends up being as shameless and pointless as Nicolas Cage in World Trade Center. It's nothing more than a typical film school homework project minus the lesbians and black and white film.

2 out of 5 stars Rediculous cliche film.......2007-05-20

This film is so full of cliches and rediculous scenes that it makes one want to cry. The 'religious' Syrian Muslim man grabbing dogs and allowing alcohol in his house, his uncovered sister in law who looks and speaks french, the screaming white women who is really 'crazy' and allows herself to be molested and beaten and that takes part in self mutilation. This is just a rediculous film that in its weak attempts to 'explode prejudice' and 'deal with 9/11' fails miserably.

The director evidently felt that by making the film complicated and giving it 'twists and turns' and trying to be unpredictable that this would solve the problem of the characters, neither of which are realistic or honest. The only thing slightly honest is that the 'religious' Muslim wants to marry the western businesswoman and that she in turn is inticed by her own racist orientalism.

4 out of 5 stars "Are we really there, yet...?" ( Unfortunately, some probably are.).......2007-04-10

An indelible, psychological drama -- that pulls you in, and never lets go.
Twists and turns like a mountain highway, and right on the edge, with no guard rails. Unfortunately, the title of this film is a tragedy; it is as enticing to want to watch as a cup of stale tea. It really needed a better one. And I really would never have watched it, had I not gotten two copies for resale... and being disappointed that the going prices were so low, I was considering giving it away instead. Then, having a bit of insomnia, I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Whoa... what a surprise. It pulled me in. And I can easily see this becoming a sort of slow, steady "cult" favorite over time. The word needs to get around.

5 out of 5 stars Great film, unpredictable and alarming.......2007-03-15

      Great film, unpredictable and alarming
I love and own this movie but you may feel repulsed by Robin Wright Penn's character, Phoebe. This film is psychological drama. Miss Penn plays a highly disturbed single, jealous, manipulative individual living in New York City.

Penn's character hides these traits with a mousey, shy and indifferent demeanor. But wait, her personality is ever changing. From the beginning of the film you're trying to figure her character out along with an innocent taxi driver, played by Abdel Kechiche.

Some feel Robin's character became ill because of 911, I think she was already sick prior to the event and uses it to feed her psychosis. However you may interpret this movie you won't forget the alarming brutality of this film.

Robin Write Penn gives a riveting performance that sends you spinning with her changing personality.
Abdel Kechiche character, Ashade's life is victimized to the point of no return.
      Unbelievable.........

5 out of 5 stars Not to be missed!.......2007-02-20

This rollercoaster ride of a film was my #1 film when I saw it at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival, and if nothing else, it is certainly a film that made the biggest impact. When businesswoman Phoebe (Penn) hops into a cab driven by the Arabic Ashade (Kechiche) neither he nor the audience could possibly predict where this cab drive will lead. Along the way we meet Eloise (Bouchez), Ashade's sister-in-law, who is struggling to provide assistance to her husband, who was deported from the country after running afoul of the heightened post 9/11 security procedures at the airport. There is also Phyllis (Sandra Oh) Phoebe's co-worker, who is unaware of the drama unfolding around her.

Stanzler wrote SORRY, HATERS (the title comes from an MTV-like network's reality show) in response to the emotional impact of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 on ordinary residents of New York City. His screenplay is complex and surprising, but with much more depth than some of the twists and turns might suggest. The acting by Kechiche, Bouchez, and Oh is top-notch, but it's Robin Wright Penn who truly shines in SORRY, HATERS and her fearless, powerful performance will leave you breathless.

I saw this film over 15 years ago, and it still resonates in my memory.

For me, Oriana was enchanting, and I returned to the theater to see it 4 or more time, unusual for me.

Impressions of this film may be very different. This is a genre of mysteries of adolescence and discovery film, and for those with imagination who relish the leisurely unraveling of clues, this is a must see.

5 out of 5 stars Mysterious aunt Oriana.......2007-04-24

This is one of the most beautiful films of latin american cinema!

      3 out of 5 stars Venezuelan Gothic.......2005-07-16

Maria (Daniela Silverio), a young French woman, inherits a hacienda in Venezuela from her Aunt Oriana (Doris Wells). Maria and her husband travel to the hacienda with the idea of selling it and returning to France. When they arrive, the remote hacienda is in a terrible state of repair. Apparently, Oriana wouldn't allow the house to be cleaned, and she insisted that she even wanted the dust to remain untouched until her niece arrived to claim her inheritance.

The well-dressed French couple enters the hacienda, and they enter another world. As Maria tries to complete an inventory prior to the sale, memories overwhelm her. She spent one summer with her aunt in her peculiar household in Venezuela, and the film goes back and forth in time sifting through Maria's memories. From the beginning of the film, there's clearly a mystery afoot, and Maria's memories gradually reveal the secret of the hacienda for the viewer.

"Oriana" unfolds with a strong strain of Gothicism. The lush Venezuelan jungle surrounds the hacienda, but inside the house all life and joy seems extinguished. There's a surly uppity servant, rooms not to be entered, precious objects that are not to be touched, and an ugly secret to be uncovered.

Unfortunately, the film is rather dull, and the characters too uninteresting to arouse little more than mild curiosity about Oriana's story. The film jumps back and forth in time with the adult Maria's return to the hacienda, and the adolescent Maria visiting the hacienda for the first time. There seems to be little gained from showing the adult Maria wandering around a filthy hacienda pouring over various objects. Each object sparks a trip down memory lane, and then we get a little bit more of the story of Oriana. This sort of scene works once, but then after that it's redundant. In spite of the film's exotic location, "Oriana" fails to arouse enough interest and suspense to keep one committed to the plot--displacedhuman

5 out of 5 stars The real supreme masterpiece of Venezuelan Cinema!.......2005-05-13

Twenty years is relatively a short space of time, but perhaps enough to reflect about the grandess of this pecualiar and immortal artwork.
The feminine universe in my birthplace literally loads the atmosphere. Venezuela astonishes you due its freahness, captivating greeness, the spectacular Avila Mountain of two and a half kilometers height is a remarkable proof about this statement. You look it and your feelings change. You can walk through this mountain every weekened and feel the Earth Call.
So the charm, beauty and powerful gaze of the woman has captivated and engaged the literary world. From Gallegos to Uslar Pietri, from Bonalde a great poet to Camejo ( the reknown poet employed in 21 grams), the ingenuity and strength of the Venezuelan woman has resisted so many combats. most of them painful.
Fina Torres rescued through this intimate portrait a simple story of hopeless, disencounters, lack of affection and loneliness of Oriana told superbly in two planes. Yesterday and today are finely shown without any drop of soap melodram, a very well made script and solid performance of Doris Wells one of the greatest actress ever born in this country.
Fina Torres told a very common story told so many times and lived at least by thousands unknown women around the world. But this sad portrait allowed to show with all the possible freshness and charming visual poetry some unforgettable aspects of our citizenship. But beware that episode goes far beyond the limits of a nation to remain as silent witeness of the injustice and cross eyed disfunction in ancient generations of unfinished and anonymus stories through the little history.
      A Latin gem!

5 out of 5 stars LA OBRA MAESTRA DEL CINE VENEZOLANO.......2004-05-19

"Peligrosa" is a big action film--a genre not typically explored in Argentinean cinema. It is an enjoyable, if not particularly original film. It is essentially established as a buddy road movie set largely in Buenos Aires. Two guys are thrown together by circumstance and a whole lot of trouble, and end up literally fighting for their lives. Let's just say there are plenty of explosions, gunplay, double crosses, secrets revealed, mobsters, drugs, cash, crooked cops--you name it. And of course, the cliche wouldn't be complete without the beautiful woman who joins them and has the potential to divide their loyalty.

I don't want to pretend this is a great movie, but I was glad I watched it. The action set pieces are well done, the stunts good, the three leads are attractive and appealing, there are some good twists and turns, some humor. I can think of worse ways to spend a couple of hours. But the film is also shot beautifully and Buenos Aries is a spectacular backdrop.

To equate this with well known directors, I'd say this was comparable to a lesser John Woo film or a better Michael Bay movie. There is a bold twist to be enjoyed at the end--whether or not it makes absolute sense, however, is up for debate. But my brain was on hold and I went with it! Plausibility would have made a more lingering effort--instead it's an easily enjoyed and easily forgotten little action trifle. KGHarris, 9/06.
