Product Description
Delve deep into the origins and enigmas of the scriptures with this groundbreaking program from the acclaimed series, Mysteries of the Bible. No death in all of history has had a greater impact on mankind than the Biblical account of the death of Jesus Christ. And while his life is cloaked in mystery, the details of his death remain even more veiled. Could events have occurred as written in the Bible? Join scholars and archaeologists on a historic inquiry into the biblical account of the last days of Jesus. Follow Him from His Passover entry into the Temple to the Last Supper; from trial to execution and miraculous resurrection. Walk the streets of Jerusalem's Old City in His footsteps, and explore a tomb in a cave near Mount Zion that dramatically alters our understanding of the greatest story ever told.

The History Channel's The Execution of Jesus takes a level, inquisitive approach to sorting out facts from assumptions about the final, heady days of Christ's life. The program asks a handful of biblical scholars if we should accept as truth events that followed popular Galilee prophet Jesus' provocative entry into Jerusalem, a center of power where he attacked the social order on a number of fronts, declared himself the Messiah, and was subsequently condemned and killed. One of the intriguing questions concerns how much of the gospels--written long after Christ's life--are acts of artistic license. Other historians wonder what it was, exactly, that Christ did to so rile Jerusalem's leaders they engineered his elaborate sufferings and crucifixion. This interesting documentary doesn't shed any new light, but it provides some tantalizing details (the discovery of the possible burial place of Jewish high priest Caiaphas) and alternative views of the Resurrection. --Tom Keogh

The Fully Restored Never-Before-Seen European Version!
Christopher Lee gives one of his most unforgettable performances as Judge George Jeffreys, the infamous 17th Century witchfinder whose unholy obsession with a luscious wench (Maria Rohm of THE BLOOD OF FU MANCHU) fuels a jaw-dropping spree of torture, brutality and flesh-ripping perversion. Howard Vernon (SUCCUBUS), Margaret Lee (EUGENIE), Maria Schell (99 WOMEN) and Oscar® nominee Leo Genn (QUO VADIS) co-star in this landmark epic of sexual violence and sadism, complete with a superb score by Bruno Nicolai (JUSTINE) and directed with spectacularly deviant glee by the one and only Jess Franco.
Blue Underground is proud to present the most complete and uncensored version of THE BLOODY JUDGE ever released, painstakingly restored from various European vault elements and now including such never-before-seen sequences as Maria Rohm's forced-lesbian jailhouse encounter as well as additional nudity, bloodshed and what Christopher Lee himself calls "scenes of extraordinary depravity!"
EXTRAS INCLUDE:
* Bloody Jess - Interviews with Director Jess Franco and Star Christopher Lee
* Deleted Scenes
* Alternative Scenes
* Theatrical Trailers
* TV Spot
* Poster & Still Galleries
* Talent Bios

judgment on the judge.......2005-07-08
A great improvement on the earlier 94 minute video.Blue underground have produced a version of this film that is both of excellent quality and quantity,approximately 10 minutes extra.As for the film itself Franco fans should not be disappointed.The battle scenes are somewhat tedious but Maria Rohm's exploits more than make up for that slight criticism.Anyone who has Witchfinder General or Mark of the Devil in their collection should certainly buy this.
My favourite Franco film... so far.......2005-02-24
This is an amazing movie. It's basically an exploitation movie with the production values of an historical drama. The acting is outstanding, particularly Christopher Lee and Maria Rohm. Blue Underground have scraped together a magnificent print, taking elements from the various released and unreleased versions of the movie to produced an excellent film that's never existed in this form before. Given the patchwork history it seems like the movie should be a mess, but it all hangs together very well. The inclusion of alternate versions of some scenes in the extras department is very educational. The interview segments from this and the other Blue Underground released of Jess Franco/Harry Alan Towers collaborations could probably be edited into a great feature-length documentary.
Speaking of which, Blue Underground have now released all the Franco/Towers movies except for Count Dracula. I hope that's on the drawing board for the not-too-distant future!

Nothing Special.......2006-04-11
The subject of this show is the last week of the life of Jesus of Nazareth from the triumphal entry to Jerusalem to the resurrection after the crucifixion. A brief bit of time is devoted to the immediate aftermath of the resurrection as well.
Most of the show is fairly well done but was done from the perspective of "The Jesus Seminar" types. These scholars make an effort to look for the "historical Jesus" and have very little patience for the Christian religion except as subject matter for scholarly debate.
There is nothing particularly wrong with this show but neither is there anything particularly right either. It does provide a nice visual environment but it is not very meaty from either a religious, historical or cultural standpoint.

Description
This 90 minute feature film DVD stars Woody Strode as Black Jesus. Based on actual incidents in the Congo, a revolutionary leader is betrayed by one of his followers and unwittingly martyred by those in power. Strode, the African leader of a popular revolutionary movement, works secretly to overthrow a colonial government only to receive the "kiss of death" from one of his most trusted followers. The entire horror of the confrontation is seen through his eyes throughout his interrogation and torture.
Customer Reviews:
Finally...the real deal.......2006-02-17
Although the DVD version is not the greatest in terms of quality, it is still a very good copy of a great film. Finally, a parable that gets the story right. More passionate than the Passion or any other religious movie about Jesus. It correctly intertwines politics & religious ideology, showing that there really is no separation between the two, only invisible boundaries; Plus the fact that finally we see a BLACK Man playing the part, which is more accurate and true to life. Woddy Strode was great in the title character... although he is more known for his role in Spartacus.
Great film, but stay away from the DVD.......2003-06-26
One of the biggest travesties of modern cinema is that director Valerio Zurlini is not better known. "Black Jesus" is a masterpiece in every sense. An even bigger travesty, however, is the Ivy Video DVD (the only one available in the US as far I know). It is dubbed, and while there is no such thing as a good dubbing job, this one is worse than most, and this just about ruins the film. In addition, the print used for the DVD transfer looks like it was pulled from the dumpster, and the sound mix is abysmal.
Beautiful!.......2000-03-22
I met Black Jesus on an acid trip once. This book is right on!
