A podlike spacecraft is on an intercept course for Earth, and nervous humans' first instinct is to shoot first and ask questions later. Instead, they discover a race of golden, beautiful aliens asking for help and offering an unlimited source of energy--with a catch. Originally this 1971 adventure was to be called "The Vampire from Space," but that was too obvious, particularly when the villainous Master (Roger Delgado) is really behind this latest threat to Earth. Can the Doctor (Jon Pertwee) discover the awful truth about Axos in time, or will his desire to free himself from the planet overcome his better judgment?

A fabulous sense of Englishness permeates this era of the series, with pretentious bureaucrats, overzealous army officers, and comic poachers among others reacting to aliens in their own backyard. And despite being the Doctor's main adversary at the time, the Master gets all the best lines, including his comment about the repairs to the TARDIS being a "botch up," and suggesting to the nervous Englishmen that "putting sticky tape on the windows" might be a good defense against a nuclear explosion. Watch for an early appearance by Tim Piggot-Smith (The Jewel in the Crown) as an army officer, as well as a sudden snowstorm during filming that is explained away as "freak weather conditions" caused by the aliens! Episodes 2 and 3 appear a bit murky due to the original British copies having to be remastered. With lots of monsters, action, and high-tech sets, stories like this were the backbone that Doctor Who's reputation in the 1970s rests on. --Ryan K. Johnson

4 out of 5 stars "Overweight, underpowered museum piece".......2007-02-21

In a wonderful scene from "The Claws of Axos", the Master is attempting to make off with the Doctor's Tardis (a space/time vehicle, if you don't follow the show regularly) and, frustrated by its ramshackle, unusable state, fumes that it's an "overweight, underpowered museum piece." Unkind viewers now might draw the same conclusions about this "Doctor Who" storyline as a whole, and they wouldn't be completely off base.

Of course, museum pieces have their own charm. That's why we go to museums, after all. And one of the coolest features of this storyline is the funky, organic design of Axos itself and the plethora of different psychedelic effects as he/she/it metamorphosizes, cajoles, threatens, freaks out, and interacts with the other characters in general. Certainly it's redolent of a late '60's/early '70's zeitgeist (perhaps Axos hails from a star in the Aquarius constellation?), but it's also incredibly inventive and well designed and really does look like some unimaginable form of alien technology/life (instead of just another metal spaceship with little green men). Some of the blue-screen effects used to realize Axos don't quite fool the eye nowadays, but they were cutting edge at the time and are interesting (museum-wise) in that regard--as an early stage in the special effects revolutions that we now take for granted. And anyway they get the point across, which is the main thing.

Axos tempts humankind with the bait of limitless energy, and while human greed is perennial and universal, this particular ploy is also clearly influenced by the contemporary blossoming concerns and worries about energy shortages and the sustainability of resources (which we also see in "Inferno" in a somewhat more sophisticated treatment). Nor is this a problem that we've solved in the 21st century, so the plot premise still sort of speaks to us directly. The plot itself is rather underpowered, though, and the actual sinister intentions of Axos are given away far too soon to generate the level of suspense the writers were probably shooting for. Some of the ideas and actual scenes seem a bit recycled from "Spearhead from Space" too, sometimes with improvement (the scene when Axos is detected on radar) and sometimes not (the hapless poacher/scavenger type who first encounters the incoming alien).

Jon Pertwee's portrayal of the Doctor has always been one of my favorites, and seeing him do his thing here makes up for any retrospective shortcomings. There are great scenes like when the Doctor berates the humans for jumping the gun and trying to shoot Axos out of the sky without ascertaining its intentions, but then catching several inconsistencies in its/his little spiel of an explanation and getting increasingly skeptical of its/his intentions while the humans fall all over themselves for the promise of infinite resources (and the chance to corner the market on these). Furthermore, this is the only DVD to date to feature Roger Delgado's classic, incredibly compelling portrayal of the Master. I've written before about how the mechanized, identical Daleks and Cybermen work well as a foil for the eccentric, individualistic Doctor, but the Master is less a foil than a shadow, a sort of dark version of the Doctor himself, a glimpse of what the Doctor could have been if you tweaked his personality just a little. After all, the Master is a renegade Time Lord too, wandering time and space at will, eccentric and individualistic in his own manner, possessed of a brilliant scientific mind with a healthy streak of arrogance not unlike the Doctor's; all he lacks is his rival's warm-hearted ethical gyroscope, but this one key ingredient makes all the difference. This also makes him a very formidable foe, of course, and Delgado pulls this off so well that you almost find yourself rooting for the bad guy. Almost. So break out your lava lamps and your Carl Jung paperbacks and enjoy this trip back in time flying a secondhand gas stove!

4 out of 5 stars Good old school sci fi.......2006-07-09

I think the story was well written. The special effects are good even though they were dveloped 35 years ago. Just becuse a show is old doesn't make it bad.

The alens, and their spacecraft, are colorful and reflect the times in wich the show aired.

John Pertwee and the Master were great togeather.

The last serail of the program aired on my date of birth wich is cool.

in My opion is you can't go too wrong with pertwee Davidson or Tom Baker they did a great job with the Doctor who series.

The Kattie Manig Chracter Jo Grat, is pretty enough; although The damsel in distress role she plays can be a little iritating at times.

The extras are good enough. I am just glad to have this episode since a number of them have been lost and this one is cool to have given the date it aired.

Picture and sond are of good quality. just wished they could have nade a movie mode on these dvds so you can watch it like a movie instead of see it in the original seriealized form

Anyone familiar with the show would like this episode

3 out of 5 stars Galactic yo-yo.......2006-02-21

The lesson to be learned here is that, if a "Doctor Who" story is subpar, a well-made DVD release is not going to improve the story. It will, however, spotlight what parts of the story didn't work, and why.

For years I didn't have much enthusiasm for "The Claws of Axos", for a couple of reasons. One, I thought the portrayal of the aliens was a little cheezy. Second, I always thought the story seemed rushed and choppy, especially in the opening minutes of Episode One, and thus couldn't sustain much interest. The DVD actually explains both my problems with the story: producer Barry Letts (who contributes to the audio commentary) and director Michael Ferguson (who's interviewed in the bonus features) wanted a fast-pace story with cutting-edge special effects. Both efforts foreshadowed the elements of successful present-day sci-fi series, but unfortunately fell flat here -- a case of the production team trying to give us too much, too soon. The state of the art in 1971 just couldn't realize their aspirations. Also, episode writers Bob Baker (the same Baker who co-wrote this year's Oscar-nominated Wallace & Gromit feature) & Dave Martin were writing their first DW script, and the final product is the result of probably a dozen rewrites from script editor Terrance Dicks. As Dicks said on another DVD, rewriting a story too many times is just death on a script.

The commentary track is an informative one: Letts and co-star Katy Manning have now appeared as a team on several DW DVDs, and have a good rapport going. Manning's bizarre schtick of talking like a 9 year-old boy is only used once here. Also along for the ride is actor Richard Franklin. Every three-person DVD commentary track has one third wheel, and that's Franklin here, unfortunately.

The 25-minute compilation of raw studio footage from the recording of Episode One is an interesting addition, with a lively text commentary to explain exactly what's going on for those of us who don't make a living behind the camera. This material explains why some necessary introductory scenes got deleted; shows Jon Pertwee and the Master, Roger Delgado, preparing their work between takes; and shows hammy guest actor Paul Bathurst ramping up his performance to even more blustery lengths than he achieved in the finished product.

The best part of the story, as always in this 8th season of "Doctor Who", is Roger Delgado. In Episode Two he plays a scene against the Axos brain with his typical aplomb and determination. However, he's not playing off another actor -- he's sharing the set only with a phallic-shaped prop dangling from the ceiling. It takes a great actor to give a great performance against a prop like that.

4 out of 5 stars Not the Best Story.......2006-02-08

This isn't the best Doctor Who story of all time, but what is interesting is that until now this release simply couldn't have happened as the technology to improve the picture quality simply didn't exist. This story only existed as a poor quality US (NTSC) copy, so in order to make it release worth a highly intensive process called Reverse Standards Conversion (RSC) had to take place. This essentially unpicks the picture to return it to it's original PAL glory (for UK release). For the North American release the picture is then converted back to NTSC only using a much more sophisticated technique to that done 30 years ago. The improvements are startling.

Of course the release also contains the usual dazzling set of extras.

4 out of 5 stars Beware of Greeks bearing AXONITE!!!.......2006-01-19

An "okay" 3rd Doctor (Jon Pertwee) adventure, originally broadcast in 1971, that rates higher because it is with Roger Delgado's Master (taken from the series too soon do to a tragic accident) is in it.

A organic spacecraft arrives on Earth in the spirit of the 50's Sci-Fi classics, the humans are ready to blow it away. Thanks to their restrain they discover a race of beautiful, , golden aliens offering an unlimited source of energy, but in reality they are a threat too Earth, working with the Doctor's villainous nemesis the renegade a Timelord called the Master. Will the exiled Doctor uncover the truth about the alien plan and aide Humanity or has is his desire for the freedom to leave Earth overcome him? judgment? Has the Doctor joined forces with his old adversary only to serve his own agenda?
Surrounded by "the Brig" and his trigger-happy UNIT soldiers, self-inflated, self-serving bureaucrats, not to mention the cartoon locals, all reacting true to type, it's no wonder the Doctor seems to be torn between allies. There's lots of great sets, monsters, alien transformation into some top-notch costumes (that were so expensive they were saved and reused in "The Seeds of Doom," among others). Some of the scenes with the Doctor and the Master in the final episodes are very good, and completely sell the idea that the Doctor may have traded sides, because he was always on "his own side" to begin with.

3 out of 5 stars no Bolo...doh...barely Cynthia...doh doh.......2006-12-01

What started out as a decent movie, ended up in dissapointment and just an ok flick. Cynthia Rothrock is indeed only in the beginning of the movie, and the rest focuses on Jalal Mehri, who sorry to say, can not impress me very much. Loren Avedon (No Retreat, No Surrender 2 & 3, King of the Kickboxers) plays the bad guy in the movie. His acting actually seemed to improve over his cheesy acting in his other films, but I spoke up too soon by about mid-way through the film. The 3 ancient evil masters he calls upon are nothing spectacualr in the film, in fact they never speak. Their skills are alright and they consume most of the fight scenes in the movie. The final fights in the film are about average, involving Jalal Merhi versus the masters and the Loren Avedon character against his old master, who has now taught the Jalal Merhi character how to fight.

The ending of Tiger Claws 3 is a twist that is almost ridiculous. It kinda made me mad cause it allowed the movie to leave out Cynthia Rothrock when it really shouldn't have. Oh well, this is an average flick, basically good to complete the Tiger Claws trilogy, nothing more. Oh, and yes, No Bolo Young in this one, doh.

1 out of 5 stars Not a CR movie !!!!!!.......2004-05-19

Well if you're looking for Cynthia Rothrock action in this movie, there is none. It is not a CR movie, but pure Jalal Merhi!
If you like him sure, go ahead and grab this one.

2 out of 5 stars Tiger Claws III (DVD).......2001-08-31

This movie was good, but it was not what I expected. I assumed that Cynthia Rothrock would be one of the main characters throughout the whole movie, instead she had a small part. I was very disappointed because I am a Cynthia Rothrock fan. Otherwise, since I am a martial artist and I like martial art movies I recommend this movie. It contains good fighting scenes as well as a good plot, and an interesting kung fu style.

5 out of 5 stars No need to learn German or Russian.......2001-08-17

This title has been available only in German and Russian language versions until now. This release has gotta be way easier to understand. So she`s not on screen every second. Anybody have CR competition video?

2 out of 5 stars Tiger Claws 3.......2001-08-11

For anyone hoping to see Cynthia Rothrock reprise her roles in Tiger Claws One and Two, this movie will be disappointing. Ms. Rothrock makes only a cameo appearance in this film. One gets the definite impression that her appearance was more about box office than about improving the film. The movie itself is not the worst of its genre. Although there is some woefully sad acting in the non-fighting segments. The action is pretty good with Jalal Merhi serving as the protagonist. Cynthia fans would only want this video to complete their collection, not for the pitiful amount of time she appears in this film.

3 out of 5 stars good, but had potential to easily be more.......2006-10-20

I'll start off by being honest and saying I have not seen part 1 yet. There were some clips at the beginning of this film from part 1, and they looked somewhat decent...mostly the Bolo Young character in some fight scenes. At first I was not expecting much from this movie, and really bought it cause it had one of my favorite B-movie martial arts villains, Bolo Young. I realized that the overall cast list was pretty good, consisting of Bolo, Jalal Merhi, Cynthia Rothrock, Eric Lee, Evan Lurie, and Ong Soo Han. There are even plenty of other extra guys, with great physicall build and abilities for the martial arts tournament in the film. I was prepared for some great fights among some great movie martial artists.

Most of the movie has a pretty good feel to it, and I think the music helps a lot - it almost sound like similar music used in Terminator 3. Pacing was good and I actually never realized that there wasn't too much action taking place. By the end of the film I longed for the action, and was pleased to see there was a tournament. The fights were short though, and only a few were decent. Bolo gets to fight too, but only in a couple of very short fights. The biggest dissapointment was the use of Ong Soo Han and Eric Lee, yet without little to no fighting from the 2 and both usually have excellent fights in most of their movies. Ong Soo Han's character's fate was a huge disappointment. The other big dissapointment was the finale with Bolo - I was hoping for a great fight scene with him and Jalal or Cynthia - didn't happen. He uses a few seconds of Tiger Claws on some guys, but its pretty stupid when each time he executes, the sound of a roaring tiger follows.

The plus is the final fights between the Cynthia Rothrock charcater and a couple of bad guys, and the Jalal Merhi charcater vs the bad guy character played by Evan Lurie, which ended up being the best fight of the movie - more evenly matched and longer.

Tiger Claws 2 ends up being average overall. The decent list of characters should have provided an extremely great action movie, but the best guys don't get to fight much. Hopefully Tiger Claws 3 will have a great fight with Bolo...oh wait he isn't in part 3....major doh!

4 out of 5 stars Hey Where Is Part 1 !!!!!.......2002-02-09

A good Martial Arts B movie. This is one of my Bolo Yeung Favorites, he is just dirty in this flick. Both 1 & 2 are good, 1 is better. Why is Tiger Claws 1 not on DVD but 2&3 are? I don't know what they are thinking but I like to see my movies in order! Wait for part one on DVD First(on Widscreen) before buying two.
Nuff said!

1 out of 5 stars Save your money and your valuable time........2001-04-17

Even if you don't think your time is valuable, it would be better spent and enjoyed if you stared at the off-white wall in your bedroom. At least your wall has texture. This movie is total trash. A big waste. And the martial arts, if you can call them that, are a joke.

2 out of 5 stars Not very good. Not even quite a horror film........2006-11-26

I wouldn't even call this a horror film. Horror requires some "unnatural threat." Something mysterious and larger than life. What made HALLOWEEN a horror film is that Michael Meyers wouldn't die.

SANTA CLAWS is more akin to THE TOOLBOX MURDERS and MANIAC and VISITING HOURS (although not as "slick") in that we see the killer right away, and we see that he's a seedy and pathetic little man. So he lacks the awesome power of a Michael Meyers or Jason Vorhees.

SANTA CLAWS is also not a horror film in that about half the film (and it's a short 82 minutes) is just various women posing semi-nude for the camera. The story is about an obsessed fan (Grant Kramer) who kills everyone around this horror-porn movie actress (Debbie Rochon). So we spend much time at the porn studio watching various actresses being filmed topless. If that's what you want, great, but know that this is as much a soft-core porn film as horror.

Not much story (what porn film has a substantive story?). The acting is uniformly bad. The "walls" wobble when struck -- we also glimpse where the tops of these "walls" end. And the special effects are laughably poor. Unlike many slashers, this killer sticks to only one implement, a relatively mild-looking garden rake. He hits people with it, leaving small red dots, which we're supposed to think are gashes. Doesn't look it.

Debbie Rochon bears some resemblance to Parker Posey, though without the talent. Grant Kramer evokes Chris Elliott, though not as funny. All the actresses in this film appear to have massive breast implants.

Certainly there are many better "killer Santa" films. While SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT has historically garnered the most attention, I'd say that CHRISTMAS EVIL is the most inspired and thought-provoking, while DON'T OPEN TILL CHRISTMAS is a personal favorite.

I'm giving SANTA CLAWS a generous two stars because I'm a fan of both Chris Elliott and Parker Posey.

    4 out of 5 stars A FUN FLICK.......2004-10-06

This is a fun slasher flick which doesn't take itself to seriously. It has a wicked sense of humor and not only features the skewering of murder victims but it skewers the film industry too. It's not for everybody and those who dislike slashers should stay away, but for the rest of us there's a lot to like about this movie. The cast and writing are both on target and if you "get" these types of films you should definitely get Santa Claws.

3 out of 5 stars You'd better watch out--Santa Claws is coming to town.......2003-02-20

Ah, Christmas and psychopathic, murderous, obsessed movie star fans-you can hardly think of one without the other. It's the holidays, but no one is having a holly, jolly Christmas. B movie scream queen Raven Quinn (Debbie Rochon)-zoologist, scream queen, wife, and mother-has just had a fight with her husband, and he is threatening to divorce her once he gets back home from an out-of-town photo shoot. Her in-laws despise her because of her body-baring film career (although they have no problem with her husband photographing naked women in his job). The only person she can turn to is her ingratiatingly nice neighbor Wayne (Grant Kramer). What she does not know is that Wayne is completely obsessed with her, maintaining a Raven shrine inside his house. With her marriage on the rocks, he thinks the time is right to make his move. Now, Wayne has some problems; just ask his mother and uncle-oh, wait, you can't ask them because he shot them to death as a young teenager. He wants Raven all to himself, and this raging desire compels him to murder everyone who might get in his way. By the time the end game rolls around, Wayne has transformed himself into the dastardly Santa Claws, and he decides who has been naughty and who has been nice.

Obviously, this is a low-budget B-movie production. Some effort went into making the film, but there's no mistaking its origins. The acting is quite bad at times, although I think Debbie Rochon puts in a better than average performance as Raven; the sets are sadly unimpressive, especially the furnishings in Debbie's home (she and her husband could certainly have afforded better furniture); and the accompanying music is oftentimes just a step above elevator muzak, although I do give the filmmakers credit for attempting to insert relevant songs to accompany the story as it progresses-the intent was there, but apparently the money was not. Grant Kramer gives an inconsistent performance as the serial killer and Raven fanatic Wayne, and this limits the effectiveness of this movie to some degree. It can be rather painful to watch him sitting before his shrine confessing his love for Raven, but he comes across pretty well in those scenes requiring him to be psychotically angry and frustrated. I must also mention the murder weapon of choice here-it is a little plastic set of claws that wouldn't scare a child in the middle of a graveyard on Halloween night. This little toy is quite deadly in Wayne's hands, though. What I found really funny was the appearance of the murder victims after the fact; someone basically just took fake blood and daubed a few spots here and there on the bodies.

Certainly, there are problems with this movie. I for one am still confused about one particular sequence wherein several scenes seemed to be presented in the wrong order. I have to admit, though, that I really did enjoy watching Santa Claws. I would have enjoyed it even more if, instead of having to watch the shadow of the claws rise and fall against the wall, I had been allowed to actually witness the brutal murders as they took place-there is really no blood and gore to speak of here.

4 out of 5 stars An Interesting Story........2002-05-25

I thought this film had a great premise and I enjoyed the two lead performances; Raven and Wayne. It focuses a little too long on the nudity, but an interesting commentary piece on the B movie industry.

5 out of 5 stars Santa Claws is great B movie filmaking!!.......2002-04-09

This movie is hilarious! And the funny thing is that the original cast members of night of the living dead are in it making it even better! John Russo directed this flick and many other movies like midnight 2, heartstopper, majorettes, and night of the living dead 30th anniversary! They are all pretty interesting to watch because of it's low budget. If you are into B movies directed by once famous people, Santa Claws is it!
The acting is overacted and laughable, the plot is ridiculous, and the effects are beyond cheesy. Grant Kramer is enjoyable to watch as a psycopath!

4 out of 5 stars MANTIS FISTS ALONE IS WORTH THE PURCHASE!.......2005-04-12

Let me just say that Mantis Fists Tiger Claws is a brilliant
movie! I love how they mix slasher horror films with a typical
revenge kung fu movie! This movie took me off guard cuz I
thought this was gonna be a typical kung fu movie but after
seeing the final fight between this guy and a human praying
mantis, I was thrilled! Mantis Fists is original with a ton of
rape scenes (particulary on this one chick, poor girl) and with
some pretty good kung fu and alot of weird weapons! Oh and the movie is subtitled in French!

Duel of the Brave Ones is a typical modern day kung fu movie!
need I say more! I really don't like modern day kung fu films
cuz it just seems uninteresting to me! But this movie has nudity
so that will make you happy!

In the end: WORTH IT FOR MANTIS FISTS ALONE! It's a rare find
and well worth the $10. Stupid Mantis Fist guy you're no student
of mantis fist so you can go and die!

1 out of 5 stars Two of the worst movies I've ever seen.......2002-05-25

Being a student of praying mantis kung fu, I HAD to buy this movie. I mean, how bad could it be? No matter what the quality, there would definitely be some good kung fu practitioners in this somewhat esoteric style, right? WRONG. The fighting is bad, sound is bad, filming is bad, quality of the DVD and its source (looks like a 10th generation video copy) is bad, the story is impossible to follow. There are two unnecessarily explicit partial-nudity rape scenes, and gratuitous gore throughout. I give it at least 1 star, because it's so bad it's hilarious at times. If you can stay awake. At the end, the horrible and super-deadly mysterious predator is revealed--someone hopping around in a furry green mantis suit with big scary mantis claws for hands. Unless you're a fan of campy, trashy kung fu and/or horror movies, don't bother. I took mine back for a refund. I can't review "Duel of the Brave Ones" because it was so bad I couldn't even watch it. Basically a cheesy 70's Honk Kong gangster streetfighting flick. In a genre known for its bad acting, writing, directing and filming, these 2 are the bottom of the barrel.

5 out of 5 stars Super rare films in one package!.......2002-04-07

First off,the quality of the ultra rare Mantis Fists and Tiger Claws is not very good.It apparently is the only existing print left of this film,so what can we do?I would complain but the price is so low, that it's well worth buying. The movie is wild to say the least.A woman gets raped by a mantis(!)and her daughter turns into a mantis kung fu monster.Need I say more? The second feature is with the same cast and has great action.Get a bag of snacks and enjoy!

Children often yearn for a pet, and Paws, Claws, Feathers & Fins shows that carefully chosen animals can make wonderful companions and provide a great learning experience for children. What kids and their parents need to ask themselves before choosing a pet is, "How much effort, time, money, and space does the pet really require?" This video offers a clear picture of what's involved in caring for different pets like dogs, cats, birds, fish, small mammals, and ponies and shows children actively tending their animals--right down to cleaning up animal "poop." Following these insights into pet care is information about how to pick a healthy animal; a discussion of a pet owner's responsibility to get the animal fixed and take it for regular veterinary visits; and some general care, health, and training tips. There's even a short segment on dealing with a pet's death. Children are the stars of this production and are shown interacting with their pets to the accompaniment of fun music that reinforces the topics covered. Included with the video is a short activity guide with several pet-inspired craft projects and some very brief health tips. This entertaining, 28-minute video provides a wealth of valuable information about choosing and caring for pets--a must-see for 4- to 12-year-olds considering pet ownership. --Tami Horiuchi

Why are all the releases' comments in the same window? This makes no sense. The first two WuTang Clan Kung Fu dvd sets are similarly bunched together, even tho they are totally different sets.

I rated this a 3 because some of the releases here deserve a 5, and some a 1, but acording to Amazon, it's all the same.

Amazon, if you want us to buy from you with confidence, you have to stop listing every dvd release of every film with the same comments. This is totally unprofessional and inexcusable.

Every release is *not* the same. Especially when it comes to films that weren't mass-reproduced in either english or widescreen.

3 out of 5 stars "Landlady" from KUNG FU HUSTLE shines in old-school classic.......2005-05-01

The Mei Ah disc of DRAGON'S CLAWS (1979) is letter-boxed and offers two language tracks, Cantonese and Mandarin, with English subtitles. The print is a little on the washed-out side, with scenes in sunlight reading way too bright, but otherwise the image is quite clear with strong colors and represents a marked improvement over earlier English-dubbed VHS releases of this title. Unlike the experience of the previous reviewer, my copy of this disc played fine on various players with no problems.

One of the reasons to seek out this film is the presence in the cast of leading lady Kan Chia Fong, who is currently experiencing a renewed interest thanks to her starring role as the landlady in Stephen Chow's crossover hit of 2005, KUNG FU HUSTLE, in which she is billed as Yuen Qiu. This actress has a long history in kung fu films, having started out as a contemporary of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao at the same Chinese Opera school where they studied as youths (she was in a separate women's division). She appeared in the James Bond film, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (1975) as one of the kung fu-fighting schoolgirls who help out Bond in Thailand in one memorable scene. She appeared in quite a few kung fu films in the 1970s and 80s, including DREADNAUGHT, BASTARD SWORDSMAN and CRAZY SHAOLIN DISCIPLES.

This unsung actress is seen to particularly good advantage in DRAGON'S CLAWS, in which she plays the mother of the young hero (Jimmy Liu), an aspiring kung fu fighter who has to learn various dragon fist techniques so he can beat the villain (played by Hwang Jang Lee), an old enemy of his father who has reappeared on the scene after 18 years. She has many good scenes in the movie, fighting Hwang Jang Lee at one point and his two henchmen, "Red Monster" and "Green Monster," at another. More often, she is seen training her son in dragon fist techniques passed on by her father. In one clever bit, she hits her son with little dabs of noodle paste to show him the 36 vital points of the body. She does all her own fighting and acrobatic stunts and is an absolute delight to watch. The film itself, directed by one of the great kung fu directors, Joseph Kuo (BORN INVINCIBLE, 7 GRANDMASTERS, NINJA CHECKMATE), is a better-than-average kung fu film, with many well-staged fight scenes, a consistently interesting storyline, good cinematography and a strong cast of performers.

This is the Mei Ah Laser Disc dvd movie Dragon's Claws! It is a sucky product! I bought 2 copies of this film! the first time it quit playing after 15 or 20 minutes! the screen would become blocky and movie will start pausing! The second time I bought this thing, after 45 minutes the movie will start pausing on it's own! This Mei Ah product is quite questionable but I'd advise against this product!

4 out of 5 stars Iron Rooster Vs. Centipede.......2006-10-18

This movie is supposedly a remake of an old Kwan Tak-hing film but with Jing Wong and Yuen Woo-ping as co direcotrs, I doubt that it resembles any similarity at all.

As long as you remove from your head everything you knew about all of the Wong Fei Hung's films you ave ever seen, you should find this a very surprisingly good movie. Just stick the Jet Li you know from the OUATIC series into Jing Wong's world and see what happnens. It is actually my favorite Jing Wong film, BY FAR!!!! He comes up with these crazy ideas of sticking a centipede into the film to combat Wong Fei-hung in the lion dance. Can Jet stop the evil government officer in the centipede outfit from winning the lion dance with his northern rooster style?. The villianous officer is one of the funniest people I have ever seen. I was laughing so hard I was crying when he was asking Jet about his fist forms face to face about 2 inches away from Jet and then calling him a bad boy when he played it off like he isn't that good. With the best dubbed voice acting job EVER, you will be more than surprised at how extremely good his kung fu is. The dubbing on the Red Sun version of this is absolutely classic. I put it right up ther with Shaolin vs. Lama as some of the best dubbing ever. In fact, I would say it is my personal favorite dub job.

Jing Wong and Woo-Ping manage to put together a film that tells AND comp-letes a few good story lines, has knockout action sequences even featuring a couple with Master Killer himself-Gordon Liu, and the movie is genuinely funny. Jing Wong is not even close to funny in my opinion but he did a great job on this movie and really surprised me without even having to use his usual sleazy ways of making movies.

Also the music is outstanding. You will be singing or for sure humming this tune for the rest of your life after hearing it.

YOU HAVE TO GET THE RED SUN VERSION. It is the version I am reviewing with Jet in a rooster costume on the cover. Yes, he is in a rooster costume and it is an awesome scene! This version is UNCUT, has low sound quality(you can turn it up), and is full screened but it surprisingly does not effect it at all. The picture quality is really good though a bit faded. No special features, just the 105 minute movie.
