As it turns out, Kirby Dick's eye-opening documentary isn't rated. When he submitted it to the Motion Picture Association of America, they slapped it with an NC-17 (though he had always intended to release it unrated). This is fitting since he sheds much-needed light on the inner workings of a secretive organization that wields great power over the movies the public gets to see (since most mainstream media won't touch the dreaded NC-17). It's just as well since This Film Is Not Yet Rated focuses on the more controversial films of the past three decades. Aside from the stories of filmmakers who have tussled with the MPAA, Dick hires a private investigator to determine who sits on the board, since this information isn't in the public domain. With her assistance, he solves the mystery. Directors include Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream), Mary Harron (American Psycho), and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry). Though frequently humorous, This Film Is Not Yet Rated should be required viewing for serious film fans, because the MPAA doesn't just affect what gets seen--but what gets made. If it has a flaw, it's this: In his attempt to generate transparency, Dick (Twist of Faith) arguably crosses the line. It's one thing to identify the board members; it's another to divulge their vital statistics. Whether or not these "guardians of morality" are working for the common good, they're still entitled to a little privacy. That said, this is vital stuff for anyone concerned about First Amendment issues. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Description

Kirby Dick's provocative film investigates the secretive and inconsistent process by which the Motion Picture Association of America rates films. Dick questions whether certain studios get preferential treatment, exposes the discrepancies in how the MPAA views sex and violence, and reveals the association's efforts to control culture.

3 out of 5 stars Great Premise but Could've Said Far More.......2007-06-28

Kirby Dick is certainly preaching to the quire when I viewed his documentary that attempts to skewer the MPAA. It's certainly not a bold attack but it obviously has its merits. Kirby makes the assertion that the MPAA has several double standards. Primarily with regards to violent content versus sexual content and nudity, heterosexual content versus homosexual content, and content in big business Hollywood versus independent films. These are key points in Dick's anti-MPAA film and I was glad to see a film point this out and gain some mainstream attention for doing so. But these contentions were only contemplated for about fourty minutes in this film, so Kirby Dick took the rest of his movie in another direction. He wanted to find out who exactly these "raters" are...and I really just didn't care.

The MPAA and any centralization of power that has control of our freedom of speech should be abolished and that is an issue for the most part not directly tackled here in This Film is Not Yet Rated. Keep in mind; I'm not saying there shouldn't be a rating system. I am saying there should not be one that partakes in an overall system which deters films that typically get NC-17 ratings from being made at all. Currently, the incentive to make a film like The Dreamers as opposed to a film like Rambo 4 just isn't there and the incentives should ideally be the same. Why shouldn't I be able to go to the theatre up the street to watch an un-butchered Todd Solondz film rather than drive all the way into Kendall Square to see the version he intended? And what about the people who don't live near a major city? It may not be a top priority for a lot people but it is for me, as it is both impeding on the spirit of the first amendment as well as preventing me from enjoying what is likely to be a very thoughtful and pure film untouched by corporatism.

Dick's motives are there to express the same sentiments but by hiring a private investigator to stalk these raters he is really sort of missing the point, or just not prioritizing I suppose. Not to mention those scenes were not nearly as entertaining or as interesting as the interviews with filmmakers and insights about the MPAA as a whole. The filmmakers we see here include Darren Aronofsky, whose film Requiem for a Dream needed to be cut down for sexual content to get an R-rating, and with that rating the ability to make more money. That R-rated version saw very limited release on video and Aronofsky's film was released unrated in theatres and therefore it had a limited release. It was one of the best films of 2000 and had it been released with a profit-worthy adult rating it would've likely been a success. Other filmmakers that suffered similar issues with the MPAA and appeared in this film include Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), Atom Egoyan (Where the Truth Lies), Matt Stone (Team America, South Park), Kevin Smith (Clerks), Mary Harron (American Psycho), John Waters (Pink Flamingos) and many others.

All in all though, it almost seemed as if there was more to say about these filmmakers scenarios. Why didn't Dick focus on that? Why didn't he aggressively interview some people at the MPAA? Why didn't he challenge the other side more? Even in the ironic scene where Dick finds out his film that challenges the ineffective existence of an NC-17 rating actually gets that very rating, he really seems far too docile. I was outraged while watching that part but Dick is certainly more reserved. It did cap off the documentary and prove Dick's point quite efficiently though. If Dick went off on the Hollywood film industry's favoring of money over taste and constructed his arguments beyond the MPAA instead of the private investigator scenes, this would've worked great. But he didn't do that. He didn't even point out the issues between films outside of NC-17 and R-ratings. I've seen some films get PG-13 ratings that are designed for kids and in no way deserve anything higher than PG, which I think is even more crucial considering the audience is children. Then of course there is that struggle for films to tone down their R-rated content to get a PG-13 and reap the benefits of a wider audience which really just exposes how art is not a priority. What about those films?

All I can say is thank goodness for DVDs if things continue to breakdown. I know I spent a lot of time ripping this film but that is only because I care so much about this subject. Kirby Dick put together an overall flawed but funny, and at times witty little film, that contains a premise of great meaning to motion picture as an art.

DVD arrived in excellent condition, in original packaging.

Film is documentary about how films are rated.

Films are not rated in the manner you would think.

3 out of 5 stars You Are Not Allowed To Read This Review.......2007-05-30

How long does it take to explain a double-standard? I suppose it depends on how frustrated the double-standard in question has you. Kirby Dick took 1 hour and 37 minutes to explain his frustrations with double-standards that the MPAA sets (regularly) on films depicting sex & violence, and Kirby's explanation is about 1 hour more than it needed to be.

In a nutshell, Kirby's documentary-of-sorts primarily attempts to expose the monopoly that the MPAA holds over independent filmmakers trying to break through. Basically Kirby thinks that an organization (the MPAA) whose exclusive members are the "Big Six" major Hollywood studios (Disney, Sony, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Universal, and Warner Brothers) will try to hinder an independent film's chances of getting better than an NC-17 rating if it has any "controversial" sex and violence. Where, on the flip-side, Kirby says that a movie with the same (or very similar) scene from one of the Big Six's studios would earn an R rating.

And Kirby makes a very good case. But after 30 minutes, I'd say most of us get the point. The excessive elaborations in "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" go far beyond need-to-know. [...]

Ahhh...Freedom of Speech...now that's the issue that I thought would be the primary focus of "This Film Is Not Yet Rated"...not, "No fair, the MPAA is a monopoly."

The issue to me is that we are taught that we all have Freedom of Speech as a Constitutional right. Not just the MPAA, but other regulatory groups and corporate entities (the FCC, production companies, theater owners, broadcasters, etc, etc, etc) all say, "That's fine. You can say it, but we won't put it on the air." Therefore, for Kirby to zero in on the MPAA (for over 90 minutes) was a bit narrow, and a better film would have included the other entities (deities in their own minds?) that just say "no" to free speech.

[...]

I actually like the premise of the MPAA. It's too bad for folks like Kirby Dick if a group like the MPAA truly is holding them down. After seeing Kirby's film it does seem like the NC-17 rating could be unfair at times.

The G, PG, PG-13 and R system is a good one, and it should be used broadly across all media. It let's viewers and parents know what they or their kids could be in for. The other more restrictive rating perhaps should be P for porn, and applied specifically to movies that are made to sexually stimulate...not to movies that "have a sex scene in them". [...]

[...] Clearly I don't feel that some government official or anyone should be allowed to restrict you from what you can see and hear. As for Kirby's movie...he does have a point that inspires discussion. But I think your time would be better spent commenting on this review with your take on the issue.

5 out of 5 stars Great look at how Hollywood works.......2007-05-29

I've long been fascinated by what I think of as the "utterly inadequate American movie rating system." The five stamps the Motion Picture Association of America slap onto movies seem to fall far short of the diverse array of films out there. I think there should be SOME sort of rating system, don't misunderstand, I just think the one we have is pretty poor.

It's always nice to know that you're not alone. I just finished watching the 2006 documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated, an (unrated, natch) documentary intent on uncovering the inner workings of the MPAA, how ratings are applied, and who is doing the rating. Director Kirby Dick hires a team of private investigators to help him ferret out who exactly is involved in the ratings board of the MPAA. Supposedly, the ratings board is made up of parents with children aged 5 through 16. Dick, not surprisingly, finds out this may not be the case. Once he finishes his investigation into the board, he attempts to get his own movie (the very one we're watching) rated by the MPAA, and the chronicle of that battle is the most entertaining and intriguing section of the film.

Dick intercuts the story of his investigation with a series of highly entertaining interviews with filmmakers who have had to fight against the dreaded NC-17 rating at times. Kevin Smith, John Waters, Matt Stone and several others explain why their films were targeted, how arbitrary some of the decisions seem and - perhaps most telling - how different their treatment was when working on an independent film as opposed to making a film for a major studio. What's most surprising about this movie is simply how fun to watch most of it is. Dick uses biting humor to get his points across, and the interviewees are often very funny in their own right.

The nature of "documentary" filmmaking has gotten very dodgy in recent years, and I find myself approaching any such movie with an eye on filtering out the filmmaker's personal biases. And, in fact, the few times this movie does began to push forth something of an agenda instead of presenting stories and facts are the few times it starts to feel a little tedious. Fortunately, those instances are few and far between. I don't expect everyone to rush out and watch this film, and if you do watch it, I recommend you make the effort to educate yourself and not just take the filmmaker's word for anything. If you can do that, though, I think you'll find a movie that's a lot of fun to watch, and will deeply impact the way you think about the movie industry - in a good way.

5 out of 5 stars You'd be outraged if you knew what was going on here.......2007-05-28

Run, don't walk, to rent "This Film is Not Yet Rated", if you love, make or write about MOVIES.

It's about the Motion Picture Association of America, a small group of anonymous individuals in league with big media and the church to censor movies through their coercive control of the ratings system.

The power of the MPAA is to label a film "NC-17" and prohibit people under 18 from seeing it theatrically, even with a parent. This power is most destructive to small, independent film makers with the least power to defend themselves - and frequently have the most to lose by diluting their film to get an "R" rating. (Interestingly, a film maker does not have to accept the MPAA rating, but doing so is tantamount to marketing and distribution suicide.)

The film's anecdotes of directors diluting their films to achieve an R rating suggest that many extraordinary film moments have been stolen from us over the years. Perhaps not surprisingly, most of the deleted or dumbed-down content has been sexual, or dealt with other mature-themes, while violence in all forms has been treated with kid gloves.

The film clearly identifies the societal challenge - we need an effective mechanism to inform parents of film content they may deem inappropriate for their kids - sex, violence, profanity and mature situations. But the film offers a solution - CONTENT DESCRIPTIONS instead of rating grades: OBJECTIVE, EXPLICIT CRITERIA that describes film content so parents can make informed decisions what to let their kids see.

I recommend this movie to everyone for visibility into the daily censorship conducted by the MPAA - literally behind closed doors, in secrecy and anonymity, and sanctioned by the media elite.

Check out the DVD special features, including the deleted scenes. If you're in the media, please write stories about this MPAA rating process. Offer it up for public scrutiny! It will surely fail the test and receive a mandate to reform.

4 out of 5 stars Poor Title for a Great Movie.......2006-03-10

First let me begin by saying that I almost didn't get this movie
because of the title. The movie is much better than the title suggests. The actress who played the youg girl at 18 was a real
cutie. The one thing you need to watch is her facial expressions
in various situations, they are priceless. I spent a week in Hong Kong but I never met a girl who looked like that, although I met some really pretty ladies. Don't let the inane title keep
you away from this film, as it is really good. It would probably
get an NC-17 rating, although it is not explicit. It is a softcore romp with good prodution values. It is a comedy and is funny. I really enjoyed this film and am glad I finally ordered it. Charlie Spivey

4 out of 5 stars Like Big, But With a Twist.......2006-01-29

Peach is a young girl of eight who makes a wish on a wishing tree. She wants to be older. Then she wakes up as an eighteen-year-old. Her friend Fatty-Girl undergoes a similar transformation. Only Peach's older sister Lychee knows the truth.

Peach and Fatty now can observe the adult world in all of its guises be they good or bad. Peach discovers that while she is not ready for a physical relationship, she has developed a romantic attachment. But the world of adults is not a bed of roses and Peach's innocence is tested as she witnesses lies, infidelity and lust wherever she goes. It seems that no adult is truthful. The ending series of twists helps to elevate the story above the more superficial BIG.

Lots of nudity and simulated sex makes this far less of a family picture than its American counterpart but I feel it has the better message to deliver and the more truthful ending. I was surprised that Peach was never shocked by her father carrying on with any woman he could get near but she may have already been immune to that behavior. Peach does a good job of remaining a child while in a woman's body. Very good film but not for the prudish.

4 out of 5 stars What a Peach..........2006-01-13

I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with this film. Though a fantasy, it was funny, entertaining and causes one to consider the line, "Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it!" Be mindful, this is not a movie for kids! It deserves it's NC-17 rating, but it's not smutty or exploitative either. My copy (under $10.00US, new) was a bargain. See for yourself! I actually enjoyed this one! Four stars!

4 out of 5 stars The previous reviewers are wrong!!.......2005-12-11

The previous reviewers would have your believe that this movie is some kind of quaint, fairly tale involving an innocent young girl who learns about life, including sex, in a healthy and humorous way. WRONG!!!!!

This is a soft core flick whose main purpose is to show off beautiful young asian girls having simulated sex.

Personally I enjoyed the film, but if you are looking for Alice in Wonderland, LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Puberty Blues.......2005-10-15

Most reviewers saw just an above average HK Cat 111 film. But this is a real rarity. It deals with sex (which makes most reviewers nervous), takes it seriously (US sex films play it like slapstick they're so nervous), is both witty and wise, and the performances of the lead actresses make it quite affecting. The subject is how we, and especially women, deal with our discovery of sex. The subject is highlighted by accelerating the discovery to an overnight affair courtesy of a god (be careful what you pray for, you might get it!). The humour is ironic, using what we know of sex and letting us watch an eight year old discover it suddenly. But it's also self depreciatory humour, for we are all vulnerable after all, no matter how adult. And alongside the child learning about sex, the film shows us adults who have a decidedly immature attitude to sex. The girls get naked, have the most adorable bodies, but the film, incredibly for any kind of porn, never loses its feather light touch. While the romance eventually becomes sentimental and a 'girl thing', the film both teaches and entertains throughout its length. The Cat 111 label puts it in a basket with a lot of bad films, but it is miles ahead of a great many wholesome G rated films. So much for censorship.

I bought this title primarily to see Traci Lords in yet another kinda mainstream movie, 18 years after her earlier "career" came to an end.
Traci's role was particularly captivating and humorous---and dare I say that she stole the movie, with wit and sexiness - yes, she still has it !

Thanks for the opportunity to buy Frostbite.

1 out of 5 stars Save your time and money.......2006-02-26

This is another of the endless type of Hollywood movie that is lame, puerile, and stupid. I won't go into detail with examples of the lame attempts at humor, since other reviews here cover that well. And sure, as the the cover suggests, it's got a bunch of sexy babes in it, but don't watch it for them either, because there's very little to see of them. The only decent sexy scene is a hot tub one with several topless girls that runs maybe 2 minutes. Further, the cover advertises "4 UNRATED deleted scenes" as though those are sexy scenes, but they're NOT at all. So, if you're looking for very corny, adolescent humor, this film may be for you, but otherwise avoid it like the plague.

5 out of 5 stars fun by over-acting.......2005-02-23

In spite of its many rough-funny moments, I wouldn't call 'Frostbite' a comedy. This movie's bottomline refers to the rich, arrogantly showing off their wealth & advantage to the poor. Touching on an actual style of behavior in the USA, as well as in some other western societies. And all shaped in a well-balanced, thick-layed overacting.

Main star Traci Lords refreshingly doesn't conceal her age or her background. As a barkeeper in the local poor pub, she inspires everyone with her toughness. As it's all set against a snowboard theme, you'll appreciate 'Frostbite' being a well chosen title.

5 out of 5 stars This film is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-11-25

I have seldom seen a film of this genre done so well. The comedic writing in FROSTBITE is first rate. I noticed that the writers are big name ( read EMMY winners ). The casting is very creative. Traci Lords, what a great idea, and Phil Morris from Seinfeld is brilliant. How the director could control these insanely creative people is beyond me.

Sex Is Zero is to South Korea what Porky's, American Pie, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High are to the United States. The Korean film has all the classic elements of a sex comedy: gratuitous breast shots, unusual use of bodily fluids, and a plot that's secondary to the physical comedic skills of the actors. Eun-Sik (Chang Jung Lim) is a 28-year-old sad sack of a college student. Though he's served in the military and is a skilled martial artist, he's insecure and socially inept. He accidentally wolfs down a sandwich made from rat poison and fried, um, sticky fluids (courtesy of his bizarre roommates). He ingests a drugged beverage intended to make women frisky. And when part of his dinner lands on a pin-up poster, what's a guy to do but lick it off? The highest-grossing comedy in South Korea, Sex Is Zero is slowed down with some drama that doesn't ring true. When the girl of his dreams suffers from a complicated abortion (after an affair with the selfish campus playboy), Eun-Sik matures into a caregiver--a role that is out of context for him in this movie. --Jae-Ha Kim

Description

Very few comedies have grossed over one hundred million dollars at the box office, but those that have are absolute classics: Animal House, Porky's, There's Something About Mary, American Pie and Sex Is Zero! You never knew they made comedies in Korea? Well now you'll never forget! This film out performed Titanic 3 to 1 in its homeland - eventually becoming the highest grossing Korean comedy of all time. Ever wondered what Fast Times At Ridgemont High would have been if directed by the Farrelly Brothers? Wonder no more! This hysterical Asian import has a decidedly American sense of humor that will have you rolling on the floor just in time for spring break.

A 28-year-old freshman, Eun-shik had to delay his entrance into college because of the obligatory military service that all Korean males have to serve and other difficulties. However, with his younger roommates, Eun-shik is able to enjoy the pleasures of college which in this film seem to be limited to smacking the head of the martial arts club with various implements, gawking at pretty girls, and masturbating to his and his roommates large stash of pornography.

Similar to Jason Biggs character in American Pie, Eun-shik is a bit hapless when it comes to striking up conversations with members of the opposite sex. Yet it must be said that he does not aid his cause very well because he tends to find himself in some awkward situations such as standing on a windowsill in his tighty whities, after drinking a medicine that will supposedly give one an erection for three days, with a couple of perverts who seem to enjoy molesting girls on subways and jerking off at any given opportunity, while hiding in closets watching people have sex and at gymnastic events.

The main object of Eun-shik's affection, or lust, is the gorgeous Lee Eunhyo, played by Ha Ji-won, who seems to acquire a bit of affection for Eun-shik after she kicks him in the balls and sends him to the hospital. This incident also leads to Eun-shik's martial arts club being able to share a room with the gymnastics club where the sultry Kim Ji-won rules the roost. Eventually Eun-shik and three of his friends take out Eunhyo and three of her friends, but while his three friends make "progress" with their dates, Eun-shik seems to be losing Eunhyo to Sung-ok, the university's big man on campus and Ji-won's boyfriend. However, for Eunhyo, even though Eun-shik leaves a lot to be desired, maybe in the long run he would have been the better choice.

Similar to Jung Cho-sin's Wet Dreams 1 and 2, Sex is Zero is filled with some very low brow humor, such as the consumption of semen in soup and fried form and a very sloppy kiss that starts before a drunk girl has finished emptying the contents of her stomach, but unlike the two films above there is quite a bit more skin. With the exception of Ha Ji-won each supporting actress bares her breasts with the actress showing a bit more. While some of these bits can be quite humorous such as when one girl gets stuck in "the wrong hole" there is one scene in which the guy unbuttons the top of a passed out drunk girl feels her up amongst other things. While meant to be humorous this scene was a bit uncomfortable especially after the girl wakes up and the guy blames her for coming on to him. They stopped at a hotel because she had a bad headache from drinking too much.

In addition to the scatological humor which is so gross at points that it is not amusing, Sex is Zero falls into the trap of many other comedies and tries to take itself too seriously in the last third of the film. If it had been left as a sex comedy the film might have been more tolerable, but the last third of the film divulges too much from its beginning to be taken seriously.

If one is looking for eye candy one will find it in abundance in this film, but if one is looking solely for a light, if a bit raunchy, comedy then there are better ones to be found.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a great Sex Comedy!.......2006-05-18

I watched Sex is Zero again last night and remember how good it was,
with all the awful comedies coming out of Hollywood right now, this is
a breath of fresh air. I remember the first thing I heard from this
movie was that it was the Korea's American Pie, but for my taste Sex
is Zero is much better. You get all gags a sex comedy should have plus
more. If you are a fan of Asian Cinema you know they like to throw
dramatic twists even in comedies and Sex is Zero is not the exception.
For example, let's say the do an Action comedy in Hong Kong like Rush
Hour, near the end one of the 2 main characters is going to die, that
throws a punch to the viewer out of nowhere, some people hate that and
others like me love it, enough of Hollywood endings. Not that I'm
saying anybody dies in this movie, this one is a Sex Comedy, not and
Action movie.
Ha Ji Won plays the lead female character, she is a sweetheart, before
watching this I saw her in a Horror movie called Nightmare, she is my
favorite Korean actress, last movie I saw her in is Duelist, you
should look for that movie too, is one of the best pieces of
cinematography I've ever seen.
Im Chang Jung plays the lead male character and he does a great job,
the guy is really funny and also shows he can act when he has to.
I got both the Korean DVD and the US DVD, both are great, but I got
the US DVD because the extra material comes also with subtitles, one
thing that the Korean release doesn't have, plus it also has a very
entertaining commentary track by mrskin, he had a lot to comment since
they didn't went shy on the nudity factor. Hope they keep releasing
Korean movies with this quality in the US.
So don't wait until Sex is Zero is remake by some money hungry studio,
do yourself a favor and watch it now, you wont be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars good movie, not so good disc.......2006-04-15

Hilarious Korean sex comedy that's often compared to American Pie, Porky's, and other films of that ilk in its approach to sex, except that this one ventures into the aftermath and potential consequences.

My main gripe with this DVD is that while the Amazon description says that the disc is widescreen, it's actually presented in letterbox format (with black bars). That might not be an issue for most people, but it's a pain for those of us with widescreen TVs ... especially considering that all releases of this film outside the US are anamorphic widescreen. I'm also disappointed in the choice of "Mr. Skin" to do the audio commentary, as he seems more interested in ogling the actresses, putting down the male characters, and discussing other films than saying anything worthwhile about the film at hand. Fortunately, Matt Kennedy of Panik House chimes in occasionally on the commentary with cultural notes on Korea and Asian cinema. On a positive note, the included special features are impressive, and Panik House was kind enough to include a free Sex Is Zero sticker(!)

So overall, great film for those who enjoy raunchy sex comedies and don't mind a little dose of pathos. Not so great disc for owners of widescreen TVs or fans of enlightening commentary tracks.

5 out of 5 stars The Korean "American Pie".......2006-03-22

Saw this film few years ago.. Just like the title, this is pretty much the Korean version of "american pie" except it's 5 times funnier. Hopefully nothing will be cut out of the US release. Even All my Non-Korean friends still ask me to this day to let them borrow this movie again. Highly recommend this movie

Description

The sexy box-office smash hit of 1970 makes its U.S. DVD debut from Impulse Pictures. Schoolgirl Report 1: What Parents Don't Think Is Possible is the first in a continuing series of erotic exploitation films from Germany.

After an 18-year-old student seduces someone during a school outing, the case goes before the "Parent's Association". One of the members tries to defend her actions by giving other "examples" of this behavior he has encountered in his practice. In a series of erotically charged episodic-stories, we see a young girl seduce her step-father, a gymnast who enjoys some locker room antics with a coach and a trio of beautiful young girls "save" a lifeguard at the local pool.

Presented uncut in the Original German Language with new removable subtitles. This release is the FIRST TIME EVER that SCHOOLGIRL REPORT #1 has been presented with English Subtitle translations!

1 out of 5 stars This movie wasn't funny.......2007-04-22

I bought this movie based on the other reviews but apparently they have different tastes than I do. I sat bored to death through the show and my brother got up and left. It's because the actors were not natural, they appeared to be trying really hard to act stupid and sounded like they were reading cue cards. The T & A was mundane too, something like teens might want to see. The only way a person could enjoy this movie is to be so drunk they don't know what's going on, since I don't drink I didn't enjoy it. I would have given it about minus 10 stars but there was no setting to choose that. Save your money and buy something funny made by the National Lampoon guys or some other tried and tested studio.

3 out of 5 stars Turn off your brain.......2004-12-23

This is a movie you watch for the T&A. Why did they bother with a story line? The antics of the Bill & Ted like golfers are the best parts, especially the tall skinny one. His energy and absurd behaviour make you wish the movie just followed them around until it was time to see Amy Baxter's(...), that's about every 10 minutes. Which is great!
I would give Amy and the two golfing boneheads four and half stars. The rest of it is good for getting up and going to the fridge.

5 out of 5 stars GOLFBALLS! = FUN AND EXCITING!.......2001-01-04

Golfballs is definitely underrated. When I first saw it, I thought it was going to be some kind of Caddyshack rip off. But it sure wasn't. This might not be the best movie for little kids, or families in general but, it probably would be suitable for kids to watch if it weren't for the little nudity in it. The women are incredibly beautiful in this movie. And that dog is funny (if you see the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about). I recommend that you buy this movie, and if you will go to their website... To sum it all up this movie will probably have you rolling on the ground filled with laughter!

3 out of 5 stars Golf "Ami Lynn Baxter" Balls.......2000-07-20

All right, this is maybe one of the cheesiest movies ever made. But you find yourself laughing for some odd reason. It is a great movie to go out and rent. And if you want to buy it go for it. I also have 3 words for you people reading this review. That would be Ami Lynn Baxter. She is so HOT. Watch it for her. THis movie is so stupid it's funny.

4 out of 5 stars The 80's are back and better then ever.......2000-02-27

I thought that this movie was a rebirth of the 80's B movie. It had cheezy sound effects, a poorly written script, golf, and gorgeous women dancing around toppless. What more could a guy ask for? (A sequal)

Anne Parillaud (La Femme Nikita) is fiery, sultry and explosively funny as a movie director who'll do anything to get her shot. For director Jeanne (Parillaud), sex is no laughing matter. She doesn't find it funny that her two leading actors can't stand each other when she's about to shoot the most important moment in her film…the sex scene. The actress objects to nudity, the actor won't take off his socks, and the only thing heating up between them is their tempers. At her wits' end, Jeanne tries everything in her power to seduce, intimidate and sweet-talk her reluctant young lovers into performing the film's sexy final scene!

5 out of 5 stars Not a comedy, just another masterpiece from the great Catherine...........2007-04-29

Catherine Breillat is one of the greatest filmmakers working today. Her films are extraordinarily accurate in their depiction of the war between the sexes. Too often people are terrified of her work (both the public and the critics), because it's so truthful. This film is a companion piece to her masterpiece Fat Girl, in that it is a depiction of the making of the scene where the older sister ends up having sex with a local suitor. It is not a comedy, it is a Catherine Brelliat film. Many people rent this film thinking it's going to be fun. It's a great film, and it's not frivilous. If you admire Breillat (which you should), you should rent this. If you hate her, stay away, and it's your loss...

1 out of 5 stars Would like to give this zero stars.......2006-08-09

Well, I don't know if sex is comedy, I admit it does seem a grand cosmic absurd idea at times, but making a film about filming sex is stupid. It was pretty boring most of the time. The only interesting character was the male lead actor. He was such a pompous, vain, childish pain to work with. I wonder how many male acting stars are like him? I'm guessing too many. And I doubt if women are any better. If it wasn't for him, the film would have been a complete disaster. I refuse to recommend this to anyone except to people that are into self-torture. It's that bad.

1 out of 5 stars THE MOVIE DESCRIPTION ON AMAZON'S PAGE IS FAR MORE INTERESTING THAN THIS MOVIE.......2006-08-02

Viewing this tenuous, torpid, tedious and talky film was like living one of those nightmares where one runs and runs and gets nowhere. Perhaps the dullest movie ever made supposedly involving sex.

Or maybe involving anything. Certainly the very least-engaging, unenjoyable movie I've ever seen. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

2 out of 5 stars The Death of a Narrative in French Cinemas?.......2006-03-26

Intellectualization of a pornography in the name of love and sex and then wrap it up as a comedy. To me, this film is neither funny nor imaginative.

3 out of 5 stars A Wordy, Meandering and Tiresome Diatribe That is Anything BUT a Comedy.......2005-08-29

As one who loves films that appeal to intellectual sorties as well as those that simply tell stories, this film should have been appealing. But as written and directed by Catherine Breillat who seems to be playing out her own conundrums in filmmaking experiences, this tedious and talky film fails to arouse interest.

The main character Jeanne (Anne Parillaud) is the screen form of Breillat, a director frustrated in her attempts to film a convincing sex scene with two difficult actors (Grégoire Colin is The Actor and Roxane Mesquida is The Actress). The one 'comic' bit is Jeanne's imposing the use of a dildo strapped onto the Actor in order for her to drive the sex scene to fruition, but even this sight gag wears thin quickly and we are left with a film within a film that feels more like a 'Deleted Scenes' featurette on a DVD than a solid French comedy with class. 5 out of 5 stars A wonderful film.......2006-12-03

"Marriage" takes place in modern-day Korea and follows two people as they fall in love but for one reason and another refuse to wed each other for various reasons. The film is full of the confusion that can be felt by couples around the world who are afraid of commitment, afraid of settling down, afraid they won't be happy forever. I fell in love with the characters and all their problems and fears. One can understand how the couple in this film wants everything, hate them for trying to make it so, and yet envy them for trying. At the end of the film I was left shaking my head thinking that indeed marriage IS a crazy thing.

5 out of 5 stars A Vampire Lesbian makes TITanic sinking stimulatingly enjoyable,, even laughable.......2007-03-30

this has to be the funniest Vampire movie I have ever watched, it is hillarious,, and the Vampire Lesbian babe is Hot,, and with Tina Krause,, any movie is always smoking ,,, Misty Mundae, was playing a base guitar and sporting a short wig,, but this is the first movie that Misty kept her clothes on, but her smile is priceless; the slapstick humor of egor the Vampire's sidekick is just to die for,, lol,,, If you are Vampire-a-holic, and love Vampire Lesbian babes, and if you are a Tina Krause Fan, this is a must buy for your dvd collection...I give this movie a 5 star rating for humor, a 5 star rating for beautiful women and a 5 star rating for Tina Krause's acting and bodacious body in this movie,, HOT,,, for the weak at heart it is not, The Vampire Lesbian wears a fishnet teddy that is smokin hot,, Here is one Vampire Babe that can bite my neck anytime,, ,,A++++ movie

5 out of 5 stars Finally..theTRUE story!.......2005-11-13

At last..a recollection of the true historic facts about the demise of the luxury liner Titanic and her crew of vampires. Not many people realize that this is why so many people perished on that fateful night. You see vampires are killed by running water...that fact was established in Dracula, Prince of Darkness... and the reason so many people died that night was because there was a whole ocean of running water... what do you expect? They were vampires after all. Another all too obvious clue was the "rescue" ship Carpathia... it was named after the Carpathian Mountains where Dracula and his vampires lived. Forget all other documentaries and Titanic movies...including that historically incorrect abomination "A Night To Remember" and get this gem of a movie for the true story. People may be confused and call this movie cr*ppy only because history has even got the name of the ship wrong...it wasn't the Titanic.... it was the Sh*tanic! You see how easily it is to get confused. Buy this movie today.

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE!!! I Only Gave It One Cause I Couldn`t Give It Zero.......2005-04-26

1 out of 5 stars What Happened?.......2001-03-21

When i first saw this film i thought....GREAT a paraody of Titanic and Vampire movies wrapped loosly around a porno. I was dissapointed. The humor of was poor at best and the stars looked GREAT! but there wasn't enough or varied enough. If you see it...RUN!

1 out of 5 stars One of the worst T&A flicks I've ever seen!.......2000-09-12

What more can I say about this horrible mess? Not even the luscious Tammy Parks can save this dumb, poorly made flick. Not nearly enough nudity. Geez. What's the point?

Description

Auggie (Clark Brandon) and his pals are living it up as perpetual college students. When the dean decides the only way to stop their antics is to graduate them, they come up with one final scheme; a risky bank loan to turn a friend's garage into stiff competition for Wrangler Bob's fast food chain. When it looks like Bob will win after all, they develop a very special sauce that keeps the crowds coming back because it has the effect of being an aphrodisiac. Bob doesn't like to lose, so he sends Dixie Love (Traci Lords) to infiltrate the restaurant and find out their secret. The ensuing FDA investigation culminates into a steamy case of disorder in the court!

UGGHH!! Just your typical stupid 80's film with no plot or reason for being. Waste of money! I'll probably sell it in my next garage sale.

I order many items related to Gerard Butler, Fast Food is a
movie he made, when I saw Fast Food grouped with items on
the Gerard Butler section I ordered it, It is not the correct
Fast Food, so I feel that Amazon took advantage and put the
Fast Food to get a sale. The correct Fast Food is not even on
a DVD yet. Kathie Cirelli

1 out of 5 stars What a stinker!!!.......2006-07-26

I wish it wear possible to give this movie no stars, because thats what it deserves. Though its weak plot almost begs to be made into a simple teen t and a movie, the producers make the mistake of trying to create a comedy. The result was an amatuerish looking mess that's neither sexy or funny, and is trully a waste of the talents of the actors, particularly Jim Varney. I recommend that you save your money on this one.

2 out of 5 stars awful.......2006-05-26

I saw this movie when it came out, and swore never to see it again. It is an awful mobvie, and for those who love Gerry, it's even worse. Gerry was in a movie entitled Fast Food, but it was not an American film, and came out in 1998 (not 1989).
