The Zen of Freeing One's Mind.......2007-07-07
Here's one great movie which is headed; eventually, to become a cult classic like Star Wars, the Matrix and What the Bleep do we know??: A movie that will open up one's mind to ponder the mysteries of the divine universe and our relationship to and in it. What really impressed me about the movie is how it closely followed the sequence and events in the book. In addition to the scene where Socrates exemplified Jesus by giving away all of his and Dan's personal items in order to avoid physical conflict.
Whether you believe this or not, "synchronicity" brought you "here" and to my humble review and recommendation of this movie: This movie provides the navigation and road map for you to discover the "meta-purpose" of why you are "here" and how to learn to follow your own path through this 3D reality.
First of all, there are many complex meta-elements in this movie; such as, (1) the issues of violence against oneself, (2) the seeking of approval from others and the outside "world," (3) how the vast majority of people sleep-walk through life and don't exist, feel and live in the moment and experience real joy, (4) service to others is the ultimate purpose of one's existence, (5) developing non-attachment to trinkets (material stuff) and the drama of daily events, (6) realizing that what one experiences and learns along the journey is what's important and not the goal in itself, (7) clearing out the garbage within one's mind in order to sense, feel and experience everything which is happening around oneself, (8) the universe is a mirror and reflection of what's going on within your head ~ you create your reality, (9) there's a very big difference between knowledge and wisdom, and (10) the true answers to all of one's questions are centered and anchored within you already, which is where the kingdom of God and heaven is, and all you need to do is still your thoughts and monkey-mind to access them.
What also stands out in this movie are the contrasts between Dan Millman, who is an immature, arrogant, and self-absorbed college gymnast and Socrates whom is exemplified as the wise sage, mentor and teacher. As the movie progresses from beginning to end, I realized that this movie followed the path of what Joseph Campbell referred to as the "Journey of the Hero." The journey of the hero involves: (1) doubt, denial, anger & disbelief, (2) separation and isolation from the "world," (3) death to one's beliefs, experience & initiation, (4) understanding, resolution, acceptance, integration and the fusion of knowledge into wisdom, and (5) the "return" to reality and society in order to be of service to others. This concept is very similar to Elizabeth Kuebler-Ross's stages of Death and Dying and Eric Erickson's psychological levels of growth and development in which the highest level is self-actualization in which very few people ever achieve or reach.
Let me reiterate my following statement; "synchronicity brought you here to read everyone's reviews, and mine, of this highly recommended and spiritual movie." If you start knocking, doors (universes, answers and realities) will open up to you; if you ask the appropriate questions, answers will come to you; and if you sincerely seek, you will find that special mentor, teacher and resource(s) to guide you along your "hero's journey" in this 3D reality... May peace be with you, my friends!!!
Great Movie!.......2007-07-07
I absolutely loved this movie. Very thought provoking. A must see for all those with open minds.
Great Wholesome Movie.......2007-07-06
This movie is indeed a rare jewel among jagged stones. So much trash passes off as entertainment these days that it was refreshing to watch a film where slaughter and mindless vulgarity are absent. The hero of this story actually grows inwardly, and NOT achieving his goal was the best thing for him! Why? Because winning the gold would only have reinforced a false sense of self and left him more empty than before. Isn't that the way it works? When we attain something we desire there is an initial thrill which lasts for a day, week, or month followed by an emptiness we often miss as we move on the next desire or dream. In doing that we miss what's happening here and now. Self-absorption prevents self-awareness, and as Socrates (Nick Nolte) sagely pointed out early in the movie, most go through their whole life asleep without ever realizing it. Get this movie and watch it alone or with your family. You will not be disappointed.
Went in with no clue........2007-07-05
A good friend of mine received free tickets to see this movie in the theatres. I decided to go even though I had no idea what the movie was about and ended up being pleasantly surprised.
It was an engaging movie which I actually sat through without wishing I was somewhere else. The only drawback was how far-fetched it seemed. I know it is based upon a true story (the author's) but come on? A mystical gas station attendant who helps the young man come back from a grievous accident? I bet this is more from the imagination of the author than from true life experience.
Eastern religion re-packaged for Western consumption.......2007-07-04
While it was nice to see Nick Nolte working in front of a camera again instead of speeding down the highway blitzed out of his mind on drugs. And equally as nice to see Amy Smart acting more civilized this time instead of being humped like a dog in front of a horde of people on a public street as she did in the movie Crank. This movie, while fun to watch was nothing more than a load of Eastern religious "Self Realization" teachings presented in a way to be palatable to the Western mind. I didn't like it.
If you are into Buddhism and New Age religions. You'll probably eat this up.

Description
Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy star in Wild Hogs, the hysterically funny comedy about four weekend-warrior friends who decide to rev up their ho-hum suburban lives with a cross-country motorcycle adventure. They don their leathers, fire up their hogs and throw caution and their cell phones to the wind as they hit the open highway. A lot can happen on the road to nowhere, including a run-in with the bad-to-the-bone Del Fuegos, a real biker gang who don't take kindly to the wannabes. Filled with hilarious misadventures, screwball situations and madcap mayhem, this laugh-out-loud comedy is a movie your whole family will go hog wild over.

the reason.......2007-07-05
every 15 seconds, there is a brain injury in the united states. by the time someone finishes this movie, they will have suffered 400 brain injuries. seriously.
A great cast makes this a great movie.......2007-06-28
Wild Hogs is a typical midlife crisis movie. Four men, who have been friends for years and who suit up in leather and ride to the local bar and grill regularly to hang out, suddenly wonder what happened to their lives. They all realize, one by one, that they've hit middle age and fallen into a rut, and they decide to take a cross country trip on their bikes to get out of it.
This is one of the more entertaining movies I've seen in a while. What made it for me, however, was not the plot or even the comedic moments but rather the excellent performances by a great cast. John Travolta plays the cool-guy-in-a-midlife-crisis role perfectly, and Tim Allen pulls off his when-did-my-life-get-so-bland part flawlessly as well. Throw in great performances by Martin Lawrence, a man desperate to get out from under his overbearing wife's thumb, and William H. Macy, a geek who hopes he can FINALLY do something that will make him cool, and you've got a great group of main characters.
Macy's performance is probably the most surprisingly good of the bunch. He's downright hilarious in this movie as the 'rebel nerd.' And Ray Liotta is excellent as the villain, the antagonist who tries to refuse this group of "Wild Hogs" their right to ride on the grounds that they're not real bikers.
This is a very funny movie and is sure to keep you entertained. With a relatively unoriginal plot this may not have been a great film if not for the excellent cast, but these guys will have you cheering for the middle-aged suburbanite and longing for the open road yourself.
Funny - Good for men & women.......2007-06-26
My husband and I don't often agree on movies - he tends to like horrors (too gory for me) and war movies (same problem) while I like comedy and sci-fi (okay, he likes SOME sci-fis, too) but I never would've thought I'd like a biker movie! This one I did. It's funny and it's manly but not so much that a woman can't appreciate it, as well. My favorite part is when some average (overweight) middle-aged man starts singing "Don't you wish your girlfriend was HOT like ME?!" Histerical!
Actors include: Tim Allen, John Travolta, William H. Mac, Ray Liotta, Martin Lawrence, and others.
Great Movie!.......2007-06-22
I loved this movie. I saw it twice; the first time with my friend who is a Harley man and the second time with my daughter, Both laughed all the way through. I can't wait to buy the movie. My Harley friend is also waiting to buy it to watch with his fellow biker friends.
Great Movie.......2007-06-19
I Loved this movie. this movie is about four friends (Tim Allan,John Trovlta, Martin Lawerence and William H. Macy) who love riding their Motorcycles. Now all four of them are stressed out and are having personal problems and they are being told that they are not real bikers and they are old. so they deside to take a road trip on their bikes and that is where the adventur starts. you will have to get the movie to find out what happens....

The unlikeliest cult hit of 2004 was What the (Bleep) Do We Know?, a lecture on mysticism and science mixed into a sort-of narrative. Marlee Matlin stars in the dramatic thread, about a sourpuss photographer who begins to question her perceptions. Interviews with quantum physics experts and New Age authors are cut into this story, offering a vaguely convincing (and certainly mind-provoking) theory about... well, actually, it sounds a lot like the Power of Positive Thinking, when you get down to it. Talking heads (not identified until film's end) include JZ Knight, who appears in the movie channeling Ramtha, the ancient sage she claims communicates through her (other speakers are also associated with Knight's organization). What she says actually makes pretty good common sense--Ramtha's wiggier notions are not included--and would be easy to accept were it not being credited to a 35,000-year-old mystic from Atlantis. --Robert Horton

Customer Reviews:
What the bleep is this piece of *;%!*#*! ?.......2007-07-07
Alas, this is probably the worst piece of C.R.A.P. I've ever had the sad opportunity to watch. Period! I would like to find one single reason why this garbage shouldn't deserve a minus 10 star rating. This is all about pseudo-science and opinion-based beliefs, nothing can be proven. There is not a shred of evidence-based knowledge to be found, just a lot of mumbo-jumbo-nonsense thrown at your face by so called "scientists" and self-proclaimed "experts". And they call this a documentary???? Please, get real, this DVD is a waste of money and time, if someone has the honest desire to hallucinate, he is probably better off investing in some quality pot. Don't let some quacks and charlatans insult your intelligence by poisoning your minds with this gibberish and pseudo-science lunacy!!!!
Thought Provoking.......2007-07-02
This is an interesting visual and scientific exploration of the Hermetic Principle "The Universe is Mental". Or at least that's what I got out of it. I highly recommend it for students of metaphysics, occultists, magicians, and even people simply interested in theories about quantum physics. It's worth watching a few times.
Defective DVD from Amazon.......2007-07-01
I bought this DVD from AMAZON over 60 days ago so it is over the return policy date. It was a birthday present and I it bought early. I sent the item. It was returned to me becuase the DVD was defective. The picture ran but there was no audio. I have just emailed Amazon my request for a refund. I do not know if they will refund it or not. I am listing this not as a complaint but to state that I was given a defective DVD.
Tripe........2007-07-01
What the Bleep!? is nothing more than New Age tripe. A haphazardly directed B movie with laughable early 90s special effects, a schizophrenically discordant plot-line, pompous wanna-be quantum physics "experts" and one woman named JZ Knight who could probably be diagnosed with DID and delusions of grandeur, this "documentary" is nonsense and a waste of any serious person's time.
Go for your Dreams.......2007-06-30
Why not? Keep your head on straight enough to be healthy and love. However, why not go for your deepest dreams with everything you've got? You may not buy everything in this film, but hey, a closed mind gathers no knowledge. Give it a chance and take what you want and leave the rest for another moment.

A delightful undersea world unfolds in Pixar's animated adventure Finding Nemo. When his son Nemo is captured by a scuba-diver, a nervous-nellie clownfish named Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) sets off into the vast--and astonishingly detailed--ocean to find him. Along the way he hooks up with a scatterbrained blue tang fish named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), who's both helpful and a hindrance, sometimes at the same time. Faced with sharks, deep-sea anglers, fields of poisonous jellyfish, sea turtles, pelicans, and much more, Marlin rises above his neuroses in this wonderfully funny and nonstop thrill ride--rarely does more than 10 minutes pass without a sequence destined to become a theme park attraction. Pixar continues its run of impeccable artistic and economic success (their movies include Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc). Also featuring the voices of Willem Dafoe, Geoffrey Rush, and Allison Janney. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:
The Best Pixar.......2007-07-09
Pixar has created amazing movies, and this has to be their best. Stunning scenes, capturing the beauty of the world of coral reefs, along with the mystery of the oceans. Great story and humor.
DO NOT BE CORRUPTED BY THIS MOVIE!!!.......2007-06-05
The movie was a little boring and looked really fake. You could tell it wasn't real and was just a bunch of silly puppets. I hope the kids that watch it don't really think fish can talk. Most of the movie is scientifically inaccurate. At one point there are a lot of "baby" fish. These fish appear, no, not as fry or something else that makes sense, but as slightly smaller versions of the adult. After this, these "baby" fish climb onto the back of a stingray (a predatory animal that should be eating them" who is their "teacher" he swims around and sings songs while the "baby" fish ride on his back. Other associations appear in this movie that I doubt have ever been observed in the wild. At one point, a clown fish is talking to a seahorse and an octopus, two of which only associate with their own kind, and one of which will kill anything to get within several feet of it! Does this happen in the movie? NO!
However, what I find most disturbing is not the numerous scientific inaccuracies, but the fact that most people that view this movie regard it as a documentary on ocean life. I have seen kids at the aquarium pointing at fish and referring to them as a "Nemo" or a "Dori".
Anyway, the stingray teacher manages to lose the baby clown fish (big surprise, what do you expect with a stingray for a teacher, you're lucky he didn't eat the kid!). And the clown fish gets captured and put into an aquarium in a dentists office with, yes more talking fish, but just wait! In this tank, there are also talking shrimp, and even a talking Starfish.
OK, now talking fish is one thing. They may not have lungs or vocal chords to produce speech, and not even close to sufficient cognitive function, but at least they're vertebrates! But having an animal without even a brain talking!? That's just ridiculous! And speaking the same language as the fish!
Now, yes, there have been strange things in Disney movies before. In Alice in wonderland there are talking flowers, and even a talking slug that smokes opium. However, Alice in Wonderland is the delusion of a madman, and does not take place in the natural world. Hence the name "Wonderland". However, does Finding Nemo take place in "Wonderland"? NO! It takes place in the Great Barrier reed, just outside Australia! Did the maker think "Well, nobody that watches this movie has been to Australia, so they won't know that the fish don't talk there"? I don't know what he was thinking, but I wasn't fooled! I personally have been to Australia, and the fish do NOT talk there! this movie makes no sense and is in no way entertaining.
After that, the fish attempt to make their tank dirty by clogging the filter, in which they succeed. However, the maker of this film has obviously never kept saltwater fish before. If he had, he would realise that after living without a filter for more than an hour, every fish in the tank would be dead. Does this happen? NO! The tank just gets really dirty and the fish remain just as alive as ever! I couldn't take it any more. I walked out of the theater after that.
Do not regard this movie as factual! Do not take your children to see this movie! This is one of the WORST places to get information about fish. Do not be fooled by this movie or the numerous other positive reviews!
For the kids, mainly.......2007-06-05
Adults usually write the reviews here so from an adult perspective, this film is not as rich as Monsters nor the Toy Story films. Those had many in jokes and adult themed gags. I would say that Nemo is entertaining enough to see once, maybe twice, but adults will tire of it soon.
Kids are another matter. It is cute, colorful, and entertaining. My only caution is that my son didn't like the lost mom and separation from dad plots. Most of us grew up on Disney films which always had lost parents though. I don't expect it to cause any major trauma, but more sensitive kids will be sad during those parts. The humor is gentle and okay for tots.
Lighten Up!.......2007-06-04
As far as this sounds, I read the bad reviews. "Finding Nemo" IS NOT as bad as the others who watched it say it is. Let me show some advice. So, Dory has "short-termed-memory-loss," so, Nemo has the "lucky fin," so, Marlin is an over-protective, cowardly clownfish, SO, WHAT?! Everybody likes this movie just the way it is. Try to find this movie in a good way. I did.
Nemo's good, Monsters is better.......2007-06-01
Finding Nemo is a cute movie for sure. Ellen Degeneress lends her voice and makes is a funny movie. Nemo is vivid with beautiful colors, and again, is cute, but lacks some of the creativity of Toy Story, and Monsters, Inc. The story does have an underlying deep meaning which I can totally appreciate.

Produced by Edward Norton and Naomi Watts, The Painted Veil works well as a movie--even better as an actor's showcase. The year is 1925. When her domineering mother pressures her to marry, Kitty (Watts) settles for shy bacteriologist Walter (Norton). Then Walter is transferred from London to Shanghai and the lonely and bored Kitty drifts into an affair with married diplomat Charlie (Liev Schreiber). When Walter finds out, he makes a startling proposition: either Kitty accompanies him to the cholera-infested countryside or he'll divorce her. With no other prospects, she comes along on what looks like a double-suicide mission. Based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham, The Painted Veil was adapted by Philadelphia's Ron Nyswaner (who knows a little something about infectious diseases). As two previous versions made little impact--despite Garbo's presence in the 1934 melodrama--John Curran's film is sure to stand as definitive. Interestingly, Norton, who studied Chinese history at Yale, chose Watts as his co-star, while Watts chose Curran, for whom she appeared in 2004's underrated We Don't Live Here Anymore. Filmed on location, the handsome production is, in many respects, just as old-fashioned as its source material--sex is merely suggested and Kitty is shocked that their English neighbor (Toby Jones) has a Chinese lover--but the ending packs a feminist twist. Mostly though, The Painted Veil is about the acting, and Watts and Norton, along with Diana Rigg as a disillusioned Mother Superior, have rarely been better. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
Based on the classic novel by W. Somerset Maugham, "The Painted Veil" is a love story set in the 1920s that tells the story of a young English couple, Walter, a middle class doctor and Kitty, an upper-class woman, who get married for the wrong reasons and relocate to Shanghai, where she falls in love with someone else. When he uncovers her infidelity, in an act of vengeance, he accepts a job in a remote village in China ravaged by a deadly epidemic, and takes her along. Their journey brings meaning to their relationship and gives them purpose in one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.
Customer Reviews:
A Beautiful Success.......2007-07-08
I admit what really won me over to go out and rent out The Painted Veil were the beautiful scenes they showed in its commercials. I worried though that I wouldn't get into the story at all. Love stories to me can be very good or very weak. The Painted Veil, nonetheless, I find a success. Not only does it have beautiful scenes as promised, but the writing and the actors themselves were quite strong. Norton especially made one memorable and definitely likeable character.
From beginning to end I was kept in interest of this story and yes did have a part of me hoping this marriage on the rocks would turn into a finally passionate romance. The ending is terribly sad though. I wasn't expecting it and didn't really want it to end that way- nonetheless, it was realistic so I really won't complain. Just sorry that it happened.
Overall I highly recommend The Painted Veil. It turned out to be much more than I expected it would be.
4/5
Beautiful movie!.......2007-07-08
Beautiful, atmospheric, gripping; it was a sad but still wonderful and beautiful movie! I loved it!
Chick flick or not - it was very good.......2007-07-06
I like to cheat when it comes to "good literature" , first it was Cliff Notes and now it's movies.
I can not say it was a good or correct Somerset Maugham rendition, but the acting was excellent and the cinematography exceptional.
I felt that a view port had been torn in time and I saw a period of China history that this 'merican' had understood only slightly.
Guys - give it a chance, you maybe impressed by you selection or you may impress someone with this selection !!!!
Just shy of ..........2007-07-06
The lush cinematography in this movie is entrancing. However, as with most book to movie situations, the book is by far the better story. The slight change in plot (in the movie) isn't disturbing so much as it is distracting and rather unnecessary overall. Naomi Watts is utterly convincing as a young, useless socialite. But it is the performance of Edward Norton as a socially awkward, intense intellectual with alternating rage and apathy, that makes the film interpretation worth watching.
underrated.......2007-07-03
The Painted Veil is another gem to come out this year that was not widely advertised. I found the cast, the scenery, and the story to be different and entertaining. This is not an extremely fast-paced movie, but it was produced with some serious craftsmanship by the two main actors. They did a great job and Liev Schreiber was a nice added touch.

Peter Pan has a special place in the realm of classic animated Disney films: it instills an element of childlike wonder. The 1953 version of James M. Barrie's story is colorfully told and keeps on the straight and narrow of the book. Barrie's wondrous focus on child's play is the key to its longevity: kids who don't grow up, shadows that run away from their owners, pirates, a fairy, and the magic ability to fly. In short, you can't help wishing the adventure would happen to you. Fueled by a few memorable songs (the stunner being "You Can Fly") and the strong impression of the pixie fairy Tinkerbell and the goofy Captain Hook, Disney's version of this story neither supplants nor lessens the Broadway version with Mary Martin that was produced for television the same decade. Unlike some classics, Peter Pan never ages along the way. --Doug Thomas

peter pan.......2007-07-08
my kids can't get enough of this story-they act it out and view the dvd nonstop since new year holidays. it is a wonderful product
regret puchasing.......2007-07-02
The racism makes this movie inappropriate. I regret buying it for my three-year-old and will not be showing it a second time.
Peter Pan.......2007-06-26
An evergreen animated fantasy based on J.M. Barrie's beloved children's book, Disney's "Peter Pan" features dazzling hand-drawn visuals, excellent voice acting, and a winning score epitomized by the song "You Can Fly!" Rendered by Driscoll, Peter is refreshingly cocky, and even Tinkerbell has a bit of an impetuous streak; Hook, of course, is as dastardly as ever. Made by the same team that later created "The Lady and the Tramp," this thrilling, imaginative tale bests the 1923 live-action original, and leaves most other versions in the (fairy) dust as well.
It's in the eye of the beholder.......2007-06-24
I have loved this movie ever since I saw it on the Disneyland TV show in the early 1950's. It absolutely enthralled me.
The masterful animation, the fascinating story and the uplifting music go a long way in making the delicious fantasy almost seem true.
As in all good, juicy stories, characters give each other a rough time. Captain Hook stalks Peter Pan and even gives him a deadly bomb! Peter Pan also taunts the good captain. The crocodile also does his best to make Captain Hook's life a misery. Funny how the PC police never bring up these male-on-male confrontations.
But once Tinkerbell gets jealous of Wendy, or the mermaids act uppity, then we are dealing with female-on-female bullying, and that doesn't go over with the ladies nowadays. Never mind that it's a fact of life.
As for the caricatured native American stereotypes, that's all they are. Unhappily, a lot of caricatures are exaggerated images which have grown up around a kernel of truth. And they apply to all races. As a white male, my biggest nightmare is that I may someday actually look like Homer Simpson, Elmer Fudd or Popeye. But I'll just have to take my chances.
Kids are very sensitive to the energy around them, and if you sit there watching Disney's Peter Pan with them in a guarded, PC resistance-stance, they'll tune right into it and then get turned off.
Why not lighten up, and take this film on its own wonderful fantasy terms? That positive energy will enhance the experience for your little ones. If ever a film was made for children, this is one of the best.
One of the Best Disney Movies of All Time.......2007-05-21
This was one of my favorite movies as a child, and what better gift can you give than something you truly believe someone else would enjoy as well? Probably the best Disney movie out there!

Celtic Woman, the PBS sensation, returns for 2007 in A New Journey: Live at Slane Castle, Ireland. Most of the elements return as well: vocalists Chloe, Meav, Lisa, and Orla; fiery fiddler Mairead; music director David Downes; chorus and orchestra; and the New Age-y Celtic and traditional music. New for this show is New Zealand vocalist Hayley Westenra, a picturesque outdoor location, and an almost entirely new song list. Chloe sings "The Prayer" (made famous by Josh Groban) and "Panis Angelicus"; Lisa covers "Caledonia," "The Blessing," and "The Voice"; Orla sings "Newgrange" and accompanies herself on harp for "Carrickfergus"; Meav sings "Dulaman"; Mairead plays "Granuaile's Dance" and "Shenandoah: The Pacific Slope"; and Hayley sings "Scarborough Fair" by herself and duets with Mairead (Handel's "Lascia Ch'io Pianga") and Meav ("The Last Rose of Summer"). Then of course the group performs together ("The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun," "Over the Rainbow," "Beyond the Sea," "At the Ceili," "Sing Out!", "Spanish Lady," "Mo Ghile Mear"). Encore performances from the original show are Enya's "Orinoco Flow," "Danny Boy," "Somewhere," and "You Raise Me Up." Hayley proves to be an excellent fit among the beautiful voices, and Lisa seems to emerge as the talent most deserving of attention, but overall the show lacks some of the fresh sparkle of the original. The song list isn't quite as strong, and some of the "primp and pose" choreography is just silly. But Celtic Woman is never less than charming, and at its best can be quite stirring. --David Horiuchi

Awe Inspiring.......2007-07-05
These ladies are absolutely amazing. What angelic voices! Truly gifts from God himself! Let us not forget the violinist. She is one with her instrument and comes very close to stealing the show! Well, worth the money. Bravo!
Just marvelous.......2007-06-27
I did not know anything about Celtic Woman before I bought this product. I have a lot of concert DVD's, but this turned out to become one of my top favorites. I don't know how many times I have watced it, it is just marvelous. I have showed it to many of my friends, who also has been taken away by the beautiful music, fantastic setting and outstanding performers!!
Tron Syversen, Norway
I'm sorry but............2007-06-13
This DVD (not so much the CD) really is a bit over the edge....The Stepford Wives Do Celtic Music???...the guy pounding away wildly on the drums...the 3,000 extra singers...the constant awkward fashion show runway walk down the stage....the costume changes..the castle....waaaaaaaaaay over the top for my tastes...and the inappropriate CONSTANT switches to the audience reaction...this entire production was monsterous....I know that I will be the ONLY person who makes any of these points and that PBS stations from L.A. to the Suez Canal will broadacast this thing forever in membership drives... but this DVD is just not crafted to these wonderful singers....I just couldn't believe it.
I have every CD any of these women have done individually and I would highly recommend those CD's along with the original DVD and all the Celtic Woman CD's....but this DVD is so bad.
This is CELTIC music which relies more on simplicity and beauty...it was like sitting in a dentist chair WATCHING the tremendously talented Haley Westenra suddenly be thrown into this group as if she needed to do this to advance her own career....it was shocking if you have followed Haley's career over the last few years to see her as part of this overblown mess..I think this was a step backwards for her. She seemed out of place.
The gal jumping around with the fiddle like some sort of adult elf was just about the "my god, what next?" limit for me...until they focused on the wild bore Caliban guy trying to break his drums...banging away like he was smashing huge boulders.....
Looks like a bunch of Wall Street people got a hold of good thing (as they did with the Olympics and soon with NASCAR) and then said if a little is good..than an avalanche of it is better...no matter if it descends into bad taste...
The "good thing" here are gorgeous women who can sing very well.....that should have been enough on its own merits but instead what we get here on this DVD is every cliche known to man.
Cringe...and then cringe some more...
Sure it will sell but I hope the next time around all those handlers understand the words subtle and nuance. This DVD is like watching a war documentary. Again..the music on the CD is OK..but this DVD uber production is just so overblown that it leaves you dazed and beaten up...how they could have managed to do that with Celtic music is nearly criminal.
Celtic Woman - A New Journey: Live at Slane Castle, Ireland.......2007-06-09
I see this every time it comes on PBS. It's so excellent I bought it as a gift to share with family members out of state. It is exquisite !!!
Enjoyment that lasts.......2007-06-08
Saw the show on PBS and was enthralled. Actually got to see the ladies in concert, positively fantastic! Prabably will have to order new CD's and DVD as will most likely wear them out. Even my 8 year old enjoys them.

Amazon.com essential video
Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. --Tom Keogh
How good-looking is the DVD restoration of Disney's popular animated film? Take a look at the serviceable but dull film clips incorporated in the plethora of extras and compare them to the vivid gorgeousness of the film presentation. This "special edition" also adds a 90-second song ("Morning Report") that originated in the lavish stage musical. To Disney's credit, the original theatrical version is also included, both restored and featuring two 5.1 soundtracks: Dolby Digital and a new Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix, which does sound brighter. As with the Disney Platinum line, everything is thrown into the discs, except an outsider's voice (the rah-rahs of Disney grow tiresome at times). The excellent commentary from the directors and producer, originally on the laser disc, is hidden under the audio set-up menu.
The second disc is organized by 20-minute-ish "journeys" tackling the elements of story, music, et cetera, including good background on the awkward Shakespearean origins at Disney where it was referred as "Bamlet." The most interesting journey follows the landmark stage production, and the kids should be transfixed by shots of the real African wildlife in the animal journey. Three deleted segments are real curios, including an opening lyric for "Hakuna Matata." Most set-top DVD games are usually pretty thin (DVD-ROM is where it's at), but the Safari game is an exception--the kids should love the roaring animals (in 5.1 Surround, no less). One serious demerit goes to the needless and complicated second navigation system that is listed by continent, but just shows the same features reordered. --Doug Thomas

A must have for any youngster's library.......2007-07-03
This classic story is filled with important life lessons presented with appropriate viewer language. My kids have been introduced to how all life is connected on this planet. It is a great resource for kids to associate how life works between species. The family story is also important. All of this packaged with great songs and enchanting performances from the actors.
the lion king.......2007-05-21
propably one of the best animated motion pictures ever. I hated the addition of the new song, but I believe that was directed towards the younger audiences. Many extras, most i liked to watch
A great Disney movie, for kids AND adults!.......2007-05-12
This is a great story and it's told with very good music intertwined with the dialogue. "The Lion King" and other Disney animated films are good entertainment keeping me occupied on my daily treadmill walks. I find that I enjoy them as much as I did when I was a child.
Excellent Family movie!!.......2007-05-09
I have a 6 and a 2 year old. They love this movie. I've been looking all over trying to locate it for our movie library. The quality of this movie is awesome. The sound effects are great. I notice they've added a few more songs to the movie since it was first viewed in 1994. I was pleased to see that my two year old was not afraid of the hyenas. He thinks that scar is mean. Moreover, he insist on watching it every weekend.
One Feature Length Advertisement In A Series Of Feature Length Advertisements.......2007-04-15
The problem with this movie is the same problem I see in 90% of movies released by Disney. Although I seem to be the only person to notice this, most Disney movies are a beginning and an end with little to no substance in the middle. In this film for instance, Simba is your normal curious, happy and mischevious child just of course, he's a lion who is next in line to become the next king. His father is thrown off the side of a mountain killing him which causes Simba's problem. Led to believe he is the cause he runs into exile. Good way to start an animated Children's movie I think. About 7-10 minutes later he's grown and on his way to reclaim his place. Where the depth of the story should be is put into a short montage instead of showing his feelings and growing up and when he accepts his reponsability you never fully get a feeling of how hard it is for him. And how easily convinced he is to come back is lame in it self. Timone and Pumba are good characters to have an mixed with The Hiena's(however you spell that) make for really funny characters. But the story as most Disney movies sucks and is really just recycled from every other Disney movie. With exception of the Pirates Of The Carribean movies the company really has done nothing I see should give it half the hype it gets. And on a quick side note. Am I the only one who feels like Disney only spits out these movies to create the endless stream of merchindise that makes the weakest of characers a god in the Disney world. I mean, you can buy an action figure of the midget in the Pirate movies and making Snot Rod who appears in Cars for like 1.5 minutes in like 5 diffent toy car forms that I've seen. Disney Movies in General are nothing more than 85 minute long comercials for a slew of cloths, toys and other worthless collectables. The whole reason the Pirates of The Carribean was ever conceived was to advertise a a ride within Disney World. You can say movies like Dogma, Scarface and The Exorcist are evil. But none try to draw your worship and aww harder than Disney. In other words Disney is the real Devil and Watching Disney movies will damn you to HELL!!!-haha. (for real. watch if you want. but if people gonna dog my taste for being more racey I'm gonna spend that judgemental pendelum around and let you think about what could truly be a sin against God. Remember the 1st Commandment and see if Disney isn't trying to go against it with the way it attempts to pound these characters into your and your kid's head so much that it;s as if these movies, merchindise and mouse ears are the worlds greatest gifts to mankind as if Mickey Mouse is Jesus Christ himself reincarnated as a dirty f**kin' rat)

Description
WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW?! is a new type of film. It is part documentary, part story, and part elaborate and inspiring visual effects and animations. The protagonist, Amanda, played by Marlee Matlin, finds herself in a fantastic Alice in Wonderland experience when her daily, uninspired life literally begins to unravel, revealing the uncertain world of the quantum field hidden behind what we consider to be our normal, waking reality. She is literally plunged into a swirl of chaotic occurrences, while the characters she encounters on this odyssey reveal the deeper, hidden knowledge she doesn?t even realize she has asked for. Like every hero, Amanda is thrown into crisis, questioning the fundamental premises of her life ? that the reality she has believed in about how men are, how relationships with others should be, and how her emotions are affecting her work isn?t reality at all!

Description
An ex-mercenary turned smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio). A Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou). Amid the explosive civil war overtaking 1999 Sierra Leone, these men join for two desperate missions: recovering a rare pink diamond of immense value and rescuing the fisherman's son, conscripted as a child soldier into the brutal rebel forces ripping a swath of torture and bloodshed across the alternately beautiful and ravaged countryside. Directed by Edward Zwick (Glory, The Last Samurai), this urgent, intensely moving adventure shapes gripping human stories and heart-pounding action into a modern epic of profound impact.

Blood-ray.......2007-07-09
This movie was released for HD DVD and Blu-ray and is available for the same price in both formats. For the same price, the HD DVD had more content, high def audio tracks, full length picture in picture documentary tracks, exclusive extras, and web enabled interactivty. I was able to go on line and see map locations of the conflict locations, take polls on this movie and others, see availble and comming soon movies etc... You definitely get more for your money in the HD DVD version
HD DVD blows away the BD version with all the Extra features.......2007-07-03
Again HD DVD has all the extra features that BD does not have...Why would anyone support BD for less features is beyond me. Sad!
good movie .......2007-06-27
besides the superb quality of Blu Ray the film itself is worth the buy alone.
good actors, beatiful pictures and of course a meaningful story about the conflicts
that sorounding Diamonds and other resources that cost human lifes, sad thing.
as for the extras Nas Musicvideo included but not 1080p
and actor and director sugesstions mostly in 1080p

Blood Diamond (Blu-ray Disc) Review by Justin Sluss.......2007-06-21
The Movie Itself received 5 Academy Award nominations, including best actor and best supporting actor. "Blood Diamond" was directed by Edward Zwick. The film itself is set in Sierra Leone Africa in 1999 during a civil war over "blood diamonds." These diamonds in the mines are found by the kidnapped boys that are forced to be made part of the rebel forces. Once found the diamonds then are smuggled out of the country and used basically to buy more weapons and just make the war even worse.
The film primarily stars Leonardo DiCaprio as "Danny Archer" (an ex-mercenary turned smuggler), Dijimon Honsou as "Solomon Vandy" (an African fisherman who's struggling against rebel forces to reunite with his family) and Jennifer Connelly as "Maddy Bowen" (an American journalist trying to expose the "Blood Diamond" ordeal going on in Africa).
The basic plot here to the film is that "Solomon Vandy" has been kidnapped by rebels who took his family and put his son "Dia Vandy" in the rebel army. "Soloman" is forced to work in the diamond mines and finds a huge pink diamond. After seeing that others who try to hide diamonds they find get executed by the commander of the rebel forces, "Soloman" still tries to hide this one in between his toes. He tells the foreman he needs to use the bathroom to try to make a smooth get away and hide the diamond but things don't go as planned. Long story short "Soloman" ends up in jail with "Danny Archer" who knows that he has hid the diamond. So "Archer" arranges for him to be released after he gets out himself and offers to help him get back his family in exchange for the diamond. Sounds simple enough, right?
I can now see why this film got the Academy Award nominations it that it did for best actor and best supporting actor. This is honestly a really good film.
Video Quality on this release is in VC-1 on a 50 gigabyte Dual-Layer Blu-ray Disc. The real problem here is consistency in the video quality. A majority of the time (especially the outdoors scenes) the picture is great but there are some rare occasions that (even other reviewers have noted) have some artifacts and pixilation problems. The real thing that tends to make this show is smoke in dark scenes. The black level is overall solid. Chances are by the time this film makes it's way to HD DVD I would say Warner Brothers will redo the video transfer. Considering like I said, this problem has been stated by others than just myself.
Overall though the video quality is good on this release and the rare problems in the consistency should not discourage the Blu-ray consumer from purchasing this release. If it does discourage you from purchasing this Blu-ray and you don't own a HD DVD player, you're totally going to be missing out on a really good film. If you do own a HD DVD player and are still a bit skeptic, my best advice for you is to wait until July when the film will be released on HD DVD.
Audio Quality on this release is in Uncompressed Linear PCM 5.1 @4.6Mbps as well as standard Dolby Digital 5.1. Like "The Departed" on Blu-ray Disc Warner Brothers decided to give this release a PCM 5.1 track. This is one of the few Warner releases on Blu-ray Disc to feature this and it's a shame because this really pays off to make for an amazing sound experience. The sounds of everything from crickets to gunfire to explosions to even the score sound absolutely awesome.
Bonus Materials on this release are in 16:9 (Widescreen) standard definition. First off is obviously an audio commentary by Director Edward Zwick. All of the bonus materials have subtitles to them here and pretty much describe what they are so I won't be going into a lot of detail unless it's noteworthy. There's "Focus Points: Featurettes and Production Diaries (46 minutes) which is pretty much the "making of" to this film. "Blood on the Stone: Follow a Diamond's Path from the Ground to the Store" (50 minutes) is a really in-depth look at the real "Blood Diamonds" out there. "Becoming Archer: Profiling Leonardo DiCaprio" (8 minutes) is just as it says, just a profile on Leo in this film. "Journalism on the Front Line: Jennifer Connelly on Women Journalists at War" (5 minutes) on the other hand is less about her and more about the actual women journalists that do cover these type of events. "Inside the Siege of Freetown: Edward Zwick on One of the Movie's Pivotal Sequences" (10 minutes) is really interesting and worth watching. Lastly there is the music video for "Shine on Em" by Nas. Overall this release has some pretty decent bonus materials but I have a feeling that an "In-Movie Experience" on HD DVD will be a tad better.

Liked the movie, but save the format war stuff for nerdy message board virgins.......2007-06-18
The movie was good. Buy it, rent it, rip it, whatever you want to do - just watch the movie.
From what I understand, ALL the Warner Bros high def transfers are mastered for HD-DVD first and then ported to Blu-Ray, making the technology argument completely moot. It's mastered in HD-DVD format first because it's easier and more economical for the studio to do so. What have we learned today? To date (as far as I know), all WB high def titles are mastered for HD-DVD, even if it's on Blu-Ray.
I still think Leo DiCaprio should have been Oscar nominated and won for his role in The Departed. But he did well in Blood Diamond, too. If you are fortunate enough to have both HD-DVD and BR, spread the love and pick up The Departed in HD-DVD, since it'll look identical to the BR version ;-O
It really is a shame that one has to go to the standard def DVD page to find out if people liked the movie, rather than have a typing war on why one format is superior than the other. If the studios really were as smart as they think they are, they'd release the same titles on both formats, allowing the people to decide who wins. Plus, they'd make potloads of money by having their cake and eating it, too.
Just my two cents.
