In this first animated feature from Director Tad Stones (Buzz Lightyear of Star Command), and Creative Producers Mike Mignola (creator of HELLBOY comics) and Guillermo del Toro (writer/director of the HELLBOY movie), a folklore professor becomes unwittingly possessed by the ancient Japanese demons of Thunder and Lightning. But when The Bureau of Paranormal Research & Defense dispatches a team of agents to investigate, a cursed samurai sword sends Hellboy (Ron Perlman) to a supernatural dimension of ghosts, monsters and feudal mayhem. Now while pyrokinetic Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and fishboy Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) battle one very pissed-off dragon, a lost and cranky Hellboy must find his way home. Even if he can survive the perilous journey, how much crap does a guy have to put up with from the two most vengeful and ferocious spirits of Japanese legend?

Hellboy rules.......2007-06-08
this is the first animated hellboy movie made and it's awesome. This movie is great. at first i thought it would suck but i was wrong. and i'm glad that they had the actors from the Live action movie in it. this is a must see for all hellboy, superheroe, comic book fans.
It's great !.......2007-05-12
Super de retrouver le démon sympa en animation.
Histoire bien menée, animation correcte, ambiance générale respectée, humour au rendez vous. Une réussite.
Hellboy: Sword of Storms (Animated).......2007-05-08
Good Movie. Great to add to your collection of Hellboy. I can't wait for the next animated mvoie to come out.
A great take on the Hellboy world........2007-04-03
I'm a huge Mignola fan and I'm usually very critical of anything Hellboy that's not directly from it's creator, but I found this movie to be quite good. It's not animated in Mignola's distinct style (see the animated Screw-on Head) but the artwork does manage enough of a satisfactory flow to tell the story well. The tale itself is pretty original (with a little Mignola-created material thrown in) and well-done so as to keep the viewer interested throughout the movie's length. Best of all, it is not totally "dumbed down" for children the way many animated takes on comic icons are, and does in fact use several curse words, though the violence is creatively muted. I would recommend this for a fan of the Hellboy comics or movie, as it bridges those mediums well.
Saturday morning.......2007-04-03
A feature length Saturday morning cartoon. I enjoyed the voice talent, in particular Ron Perlman. Some incidents in the story are taken from Japanese folklore which I didn't know until watching the DVD extras.
Hellboy has really skinny legs for this cartoon which gives him a Looney Toons look. In this context, I didn't care for that design.
Something for Hellboy fans.

Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King is a visually impressive historical adventure based on the same Germanic and Norse legends that inspired Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle operas and J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Produced for German television (and shot in South Africa), the film stars Benno Furmann as Siegfried, a prince whose family is slaughtered by a pair of evil kings; raised by a blacksmith (Max Von Sydow, still commanding as ever), he meets and falls for Valkyrie queen Brunhild (Kristanna Loken from Terminator 3) and slays the dragon Fafnir for King Gunther (Samuel West), which in turn, involves him in treachery, war, and separation from his beloved Brunhild. Well directed by Uli Edel (Last Exit to Brooklyn>, The Mists of Avalon), Dark Kingdom occasionally suffers from exceedingly purple dialogue, but the performances, action, and special effects combine to make for a rousing fantasy-drama. Originally broadcast at three hours in length, the DVD presentation here is the U.S. cut, which comes in at just over two hours; a battery of five making-of featurettes are included in the disc's supplemental features. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
Finally the story of Siegfried is told.......2007-06-01
The story of Siegfried and the Dragon was one of the most important and well-known legends in northern Europe, as evidenced by the vast number of references found in the archaeological record, but the story has been mostly forgotten by the general public. Everyone has heard of Achilles, but few people are familiar with Sigfried--or Sigurd as he was called in the Norse version of the tale--except those who study Norse mythology or German opera. Finally the story is told in a format that's accessible to the common man.
The advertising claims this was the inspiration for Tolkien, but this story inspired many more than just him. Richard Wagner goes without saying, but other stories like Grimm's classic Sleeping Beauty were obviously derived from Sigfried's saga as well, although that link isn't so obviously portrayed in this version.
I believe this was originally released as a mini-series on German television, then a year later on the Sci-Fi channel in the U.S. The acting is about what you'd expect from a TV movie, most of it is okay but there are many weak points. I suspect it's this weakness that earned it a less-than-stellar rating on IMDB. I didn't find it too distracting the first time through, but on repeated viewings you notice more. I still quite enjoy the movie, though. The one notable exception for me was Kristana Loken, who played Brinhild (also the Terminator in T3). She gave an excellent performance, and while of course Max Von Sidow always does an excellent job, Loken's performance was very memorable for me.
The worst thing about the movie is that this version is cut by about 50 minutes, as other reviewers have mentioned. It's frustrating because the edits were completely unnecessary. They cut the entire story of Prince Giselher and his developing relationship with Sigfried, along with some important scenes like Sigfried returning with the dragon's head. The original contained many scenes where they explored the differences between Sigfried's pagan religion and Christianity--very respectfully to both sides, I might add--but they cut out all of that. What's most frustrating is that this is the only version available in region 1 and I'm not aware of any efforts being made to release the original. I'd almost say you should buy whatever version you can and then download the full version if you can find it, but I'm sure they'd say that isn't legal.
If you are interested in ancient European legends or Norse mythology then I would highly recommend this movie, despite its flaws. If it inspires you to read the original tales, The Saga of the Volsungs or the Nibelungenlied, then all the better. If you just want a fun fantasy movie then I'd also recommend it as it's better than much of the fantasy fair out there, although it doesn't compete with The Lord of the Rings.
I give it 3/5, docked a point because of the missing scenes. The full-length version I would rate 4/5, if they would ever release it here.
Comes up from behind.......2007-04-13
I see a lot of movies, so its easy for me to become stale brained, wandering during even supposidly GOOD movies, well so many of them are FORMULA so....
This one however, comes up from behind ---got my FULL ATTENTION during much of its display.
The encompassing beautiful scenery -- I want to go visit!
Themes of the tragic flawed hero--gee I want to be like him, well, not in EVERY way
Beautiful heroine maiden --where do I buy my door length poster?
Treachorious seething villiany!
just kept me going.
At first I though, it was DRAGONSLAYER movie, he spends the time preparing. then climactically defeating the dragon, but that was only the big battle leading to something far more --intriguing.
I did not see the SCIFI series and did not even know of it, so my thoughts are not jaded because of the cuts, but I would have liked to have a DVD with ALL of it should one be released.
When I'm in the video store and they ask me about what I rented, I generally point at the wall where they have Dark Kingdom and say "not quite as good as THAT!"
Awesome TV series but..........2007-03-21
I watched this on Sci-fi everytime it was on. I could probably recite the entire movie to you, but I am ver dissapointed in the DVD because it is missing a lot that was shown in the series on tv. I would not recommend purchasing this DVD,b but if you get the chance, tape it if it ever comes back to Sci-fi
Amazing.......2007-02-07
This was a made for tv movie, a sci-fi channel exclusve. I had the great fortune to catch this 4 hour movie one nite, and have since seen it twice. It is remarkably well done, highly enjoyable, and the special effects are for the most part quite good. A family movie, magic, dragons, and lots of swordplay. Guaranteed to be a winner.
Eh.......2006-12-25
This movie was adequate.
What I would have to say about this movie overall is that some parts of it had potential.
The movie had great scenery and attention to costume design. Some of the acting was superb (brunhild), while others I hated (Sigfried! What kind of accent was that? I just hated his character as well).
Also, I think the character brunhild was superb. I loved her character design and personality very much, and it's a shame that she was paired with such a weak character like sigfried. They should have had the movie based on her instead.
Sigfried was not how you would picture a hero at all. He wasn't even an anti-hero. All he cared about was himself and the only quality that in my mind made him a hero was his "courage" and "strength."
This movie starts out very badly and kinda unrealistically, but it gets more interesting towards the latter half (aka: when brunhild comes in) and ends on an unexpected and sorta unsatisfactory ending.

BURNT OUT .......2007-01-14
This would be an exciting film for children. For adults: Cheesy script, poor acting and campy stuntwork/camerawork/special effects.
Cheesy yet enjoyable..........2006-11-03
I first saw this movie on the Sci-Fi Channel when they were showing 'marathon' of movies featuring dragons. The subject of review says it all 'Cheesy yet enjoyable'. There are parts that are unintentionally funny: Silas' groomed hair, Princess' attire (lingerie and black pants), Girl who yells "Fire!" when operating the catapult (even though she is the one pulling the device). The movie does has its own charm and it is enjoyable (if you can take it for what it's worth -- Sci-Fi Weekend Movie).
I liked the movie so much that I bought from Amazon. Recommended if you like these kind of movies. =)
Ever seen a made at home movie? Nows your chance! .......2006-03-30
... Now how do you start a review of this kind of movie. Was it a movie? When all of a DOZEN towns people at the gate are waving farewell and sending the would be heros into battle against the (wonderfully computer rendered)dragons doesn't that just somehow seem sad. We six Heros will die so that the dragons won't eat the rest of you! Thats right all 11 of...oh Im sorry didn't see you there, ALL TWELVE of you. I especially like how in this town of twelve+heros there happens to be a traveling deadly martial arts guy, a beautiful girl with a huge crossbow on wheels,(talk about envy) and the robin hood guy, except he's actually from outside the town. So I'm going to stop now before I cry... Yes it was that bad. But as always watch it for the Heck of it and try not to be upset about time lost in a vigilant attempt to make sense out of the dragon storm movie thing..experience thing.
Well-Done Fun!.......2006-01-17
This movie is just a bit of fun! The acting, directing and production values are very good. Maxwell Caulfield makes an excellent reluctant hero and John Rhys Davies injects humor into his villanous role. The medieval setting is more convincing and less glamorous than in many movies I've seen. The script is pretty good, as dragon eggs land like comets on the earth, but we aren't sure at first (and neither are the characters) what they are. Even though the movie is not a bloodfest, it is too scary for children. The dragons do kill people, there is a fair amount of suspense, and the dragons are frightening.
It just doesn't get any worse than this!.......2005-11-28
Oh my, this movie was God-awful. It has the feel throughout of a group of first time actors playing medieval dress-up and dragons for the camera. The special effects consist of computer-generated dragons and an extreme overuse of people's backs getting set on fire... that's pretty much it. The plot is also very weak and so typical. The fighting scenes are horribly choreographed and the acting is so bad that it looks like first time efforts for every actor except for the two kings and Theldag. Picture Ben Stiller with a slight beard, medieval clothes, and a wig. That's the hero in this calamity of a movie. There's also the typical trite and very poor attempt at humor spattered throughout also. This is definitely a low budget title. It's also in 4:3 full screen only. I consider this movie purchase one of the worst I have ever made, but it was cheap. You get what you pay for.

Blood, Guts, and Humor!!!!.......2007-01-21
I like horror, and comedy. This movie has both. I enjoyed the thrill of the chase, as a monsterous-looking man runs down people in a monster truck that is built like a tank. Two guys in a car; the driver who is trying to get to a wedding to let the bride-to-be know how he really feels about her, and his friend who tags along for the ride to ridicule, and tease, his friend, and to let him know that he's wasting his time going after someone who isn't interested in him. They meet a woman who hitches a ride with them, and then the monster man chases them down a long desolite road, through a town of rednecks, after they see the monster man running a guy over, they soon realize that they are next. Monster man catches them, and then the ending is a surpise, but I enjoyed this movie. A movie with nothing but slashing, becomes as monontonous as a movie with nothing but comedy; but when you put them both together, in a way that balances them out throughout the movie, you have one heck of a movie. Watch and enjoy!!!
Its ...far fetched FUN!.......2006-10-05
This comedy/horror takes the best things about "The Hills Have Eyes", "Wrong Turn" and, "Jeepers Creepers" and turns them on their heads!! It blends these types of horror films and adds its on twist! The two male stars have good comedic chemistry as they embark on a road trip to a friends wedding. As they drive thru an eerie town full a people mysteriously missing arms and legs, they discover the truth of why a madman in a converted monster truck has been following them and terrorizing them. The macabre and sinister plot thickens when they pick up a beautiful young girl with a few secrets of her own. Gore fans will find plenty of blood and guts to feast their eyes upon and, also a far fetched and funny story to go with it! This on is truly not for everyone.. some will hate it from the start, some will hate the ending. I thought it was pretty good thru out, I really bought into the whole idea of the ending and just went with it!
Well, as far as gore movies are concerned...........2006-08-25
As far as gore movies are concerned, this is a lot better than horrible pieces of garbage like "Saw" and "Hostel". At least this movie has a plot that includes reasons for there being so much gore. The gore is also used in a dalky humourus sense in some scenes.
Another good thing is that the cast doesn't include any people who only exist for the purpose of getting killed off, but really, there's two things that prevent this from being a five-star movie:
Firstly, while many DVD covers have some shots of the movie, the back of the DVD covershows extreme spoilers.
Secondly, the truck seems to be CGI in some parts... but despite how horribly pathetic CGI is for the most part, its forgivable.
0 STARS: There is nothing scary or horrifying about this "Monster Man".......2006-06-24
There is nothing scary or horrifying about this movie. "Monster Man" is just one big joke, literally and figuratively, and it really doesn't try to be anything else other than that. A couple of dumb@$$%$ get chased around by a ridiculous looking truck with a ridiculous looking monster...if that sounds good to you, trust me when I say that it sounds a lot better than it actually is. The acting in this movie sucks something awful and the screenplay is ridiculous...it is what it is folks and this movie is one big joke. They really laid an egg with this garbage. So, if you're looking for a horror movie, you have come to the wrong place...if you're looking for some crass humor and low-life garbage, you're in luck. Quite frankly, this is one STUPID MOVIE!!
Meet Adam and Harley...oh and the truck behind them!.......2006-06-02
Once in a while you have to do it. It doesn't have to be a fetish. You don't have to tell your friends who may tease you as a result. You don't have to do it all the time. Once in a while, it's okay to dumb down the senses, throw away the intellect, chuck logic and common sense into the back room, and sit down to a good `ol 21st century B-grade slasher flick of the low budget kind.
With Michael Davis at the helm, we're treated to the 2003 film "Monster Man". Now don't run off, of course you are correct in your assumptions! It's got a plot we've seen a million times, a villain that is also along the lines of "leather face" from the Texas Chainsaw massacre movies, plenty of blood, wrong turns, a damsel in distress, and a couple scared kids who probably won't make it till morning.
The question is, can YOU make it through this movie? Well I had my doubts but I can't help but indulge in these movies now and again. The idea of "teens lost in woods" being chased by a "leather face" from the Southern backwoods of the movie "Deliverance" was to good to pass up. What makes it different from other films of its genre like "Wrong Turn" "Cabin Fever" "Detour" and "Jeepers Creepers" you ask?
The leather face dude drives a monster truck!
Michael Davis took the backwoods boogeyman story and the fear of redneck retards and mixed in the ultimate in Southern Spectator sports next to NASCAR: A monster truck that looks like it one time was a WWII army troop carrier. It's covered with armor and kind of resembles a Stegosaurus, and has the added feature of hydraulic powered pistons that make the front of it rear up and down like the mouth of a dragon. Wheels larger than life and a lonely highway with some kids on their way to a wedding is the perfect setup for another low budget movie. Though I went in with low expectations, it appears that films of this genre are getting a little better. They may stay cheesy, but the cheese is as fresh as the blood that squirts out of people's limbs as they are leaving the body.
Eric Jungman plays Adam, a serious, almost paranoid nerd type who is extremely meticulous and has over 12 fanny packs throughout his person to prove his "I'm a dork, seriously!" nature. The movie starts out of course, with Adam in a 70's model car on a lonely stretch of road. Suddenly from behind the seat a man with a hockey mask and knife starts to assault him. Scared, he pulls over and gets out of the car. By now we know that the guy is not Jason from Friday the 13th, but reveals himself as Adams friend Harley (Justin Urich). Urich isn't a bad actor for this role as we quickly see he's basically the opposite of Adam. Slightly unkempt, extremely obnoxious, and not to mention in resemblance to a poor mans Jack Black. After realizing his protests are futile, Adam allows Harley to ride with him to his destination.
And that destination would be the wedding of a girl that is Adams friend. Well, she's more than a friend to him. He loves her, and though she's getting married, he wants to tell her how he feels about her. The trip rolls on with Harley constantly being a jerk and acting like an idiot, infuriating the bothered but passive Adam. They talk about the girl who's wedding they are attending most of this time. Soon a hearse with dark windows rolls up alongside their car, and keeps even with them for a little ways before speeding off. Creepy but not out of the ordinary, the two don't give this car much thought till later.
And of course soon they are stopping to eat. Harley manages to talk smack to some of the locals at this woodshed roadside café, which of course are full of people wearing flannels and looking like a cross between a mutant and a 1950's hillbilly. Soon Adam is back behind the wheel on a long stretch of road when suddenly out of the blue comes a monster truck up behind them. It's fast, its furious, and its wheelbase is so wide it damn near takes up both lanes! The two manage to elude the truck and soon are passed again by the hearse. By this time they think that nothing could get worse when suddenly up ahead is a beautiful girl (Aimee Brooks) who is looking to hitch a ride. My god they are in luck! How could things suddenly look up like this?
The rest of the movie features more chases, more taverns full of Hollywood's "Deliverance" rendition of a poor Mississippi garage mechanic or pig farmer, and lots and lots of blood. But the plot doesn't die off to bad here. They begin to notice on their trek to the wedding that every single person that they meet in this stretch of country is missing a limb. Why is this? Soon we find out that things are not necessarily as they appear, and we're in for a good surprise ending (c'mon, I had no idea that the girl...oh never mind).
Compared to other recent films of its genre (which I mentioned four earlier in my review) it's really not to bad. Predictable? Sure, except there are a couple surprises that might catch you off guard. The problem is that is is hard to tell at times if this movie is trying to make us laugh, make us scared, or make us wonder, "why did I rent this again?" At times the danger seems very imminent but at other times we slyly grin as we catch the spoofs of nearly every "teens lost in woods" slasher flick to come out in the last 30 years. If you want monster trucks chasing your pals down an open stretch of highway who's solace is an occasional tavern full of mutant rednecks, then try this out. Aimee Brooks is hot and really the only thing looking at, unless of course you are impressed with the monster truck. Urich is a "poor mans" Jack Black but it still wouldn't surprise me to maybe see him in other films that are a little more in the spotlight down the road.
The grand finale of course, will take place at the house of the man with the leather face. More blood, more screaming, more idiotic actions, and above all, you'll see more hillbilly mockery faster and more often than you can say "Billy Bob"

Description
Filmed two years before Predator, many have commented that Alien Outlaw could have been that film's inspiration -- An alien ship lands in a remote mountain location and its occupants go on a hunting party. And, yes, their prey is human! This science fiction adventure has been praised for its subtle social commentary and humankind's relationship with guns, friends and nature. Fashioned like an old comic book story, ALIEN OUTLAW is the second film that B-Western film star Lash La Rue did for Writer/Director Phil Smoot. Always starring in cowboy flicks that featured him with a whip, La Rue said, "They just won't let me put that thing down!" But in his last leading role, Lash La Rue breaks the mold in a film that features both guns and horses but allows him to put down his trademark weapon. Perhaps, as a result, this has been called La Rue's finest film performance.
Bonus Features: Uncut and Available for the first time in the USA| Contains a New Widescreen (1.66:1 Anamorphic) and a New Full screen version| Commentary track with both the Writer/Director (Phil Smoot) and the Editor (Sherwood Jones)| Meet the Legends: A one of a kind interview as Republic "B" Western Star, Sunset Carson, interviews legendary "King of the Bullwhip" Lash La Rue| Meet the Ingénue: Sunset's behind-the-scenes interview with newcomer Kari Anderson| Behind the News: News Conference before the filming| Behind the scenes: Home video footage on the set of Alien Outlaw| Trailer of The Dark Power with Lash La Rue.
Specs: DVD9; Dolby Digital Mono; 90 minutes; Color; 1.66:1&1.33:1 Aspect Ratio; MPAA - NR; Year - 1985; SRP - $5.99.

Another fun regional outing from Phil Smoot & Co........2006-12-06
First off, if you're a fan of 80's B-movies and haven't seen THE DARK POWER (1985), then go out and get it NOW! It's an awesome low-budget drive-in funfest with goofy monsters, face-ripping, likeable characters and even some mild suspense. ALIEN OUTLAW was director Phil Smoot's follow-up to that film, and while rougher around the edges and not as purely entertaining, it's still worth watching.
Yet again, the film takes place in a small, rural North Carolina town. Karrie Anderson plays a sassy, gun-toting rodeo show cowgirl who's trying to make it big, and former Western serial star Lash LaRue (minus his trademark whip) is the local sheriff. The film gets rolling when a spacecraft crashes into a river, unleashing a trio of fishbowl-helmeted aliens (who are dead ringers of Ro-Man from ROBOT MONSTER) on the unsuspecting public. Naturally, it's up to Karrie and Lash to save the day.
Unlike THE DARK POWER, which was punctuated by comic book-style gore and a (slightly) more mature storyline, ALIEN OUTLAW plays out like a kiddie matinee movie made for adults. What I mean by that is, while virtually bloodless and filled with juvenile humor, there are the occasional dark moments, such as a jarring scene when a pretty college student is raped (off-camera) by one of the invaders. Still, for the most part this is a whole lot of fun; the sort of low-budget regional movie-making that we just don't see anymore. If you're a fan of oddball 80's fluff, then this is a must.
Old Cowboys, Youthful Cuties, Alien Frogmen, & a Hoss.......2005-12-30
First, I did enjoy this movie and knew what I bought was going to challenge my personal integrity and value as a human being.
Alien Outlaw is a flick you might enjoy at a Drive In Movie that cost $1 per carload showing a few movies for that $1. As a child I enjoyed Lash La Rue and most of those old cowboy serials on 1950's T.V. programs, maybe you did too. These old cowpokes in this movie perform adequately for their age and it is nice to see them, most are gone now. Alien Outlaw is definitely one of those really strange cultish films and there are people on this planet who find it might be something to give them a great pleasure in it's ability to amaze and stupify. The Aliens are muggish frogmen and the cutie with the guns is very nice to look at as are most of the females, the dialogue is sorted, most of the actors try hard, Lash never uses a whip in this movie, ( I was disappointed) there is a horse and several 80's model cars, and a gas station. It may cause you to laugh. Small review. See the movie.

My Hercules, what shiny pecs you have!.......2007-06-18
This movie is chronologically challenged. First off, it takes place in the Ice Age and stars the Son of Hercules,Maxus. Hercules himself, however, wasn't born until several thousand years later in Ancient Greece. How could his son appear in a movie that takes place thousands of years before he was born? The movie never answers that question and frankly, has bigger chronological fish to fry, namely, Reg Lewis' haircut. It's an old b-movie axiom, that while technology changes in these movies from that which we experience in the present, hairstyles will always remain constant to the time period in which the movie was made. In other words, the Son of Hercules sports and Elvis haircut, or what my mom would call a "Duck's @ss". And it works, for this type of film. It's just the type of anomally that makes these movies amusing. And Reg himself makes an intersting hero.He is a rather easy going avenger, and with that hair I kept expecting him to break out into a rambling, rockin' rockabilly tune all the time. He plays Maxus a little like you think Elvis would have, and if he would have pushed the Elvis bit a little harder, we'd have a bona fide classic on our hands. Mr. Lewis is sufficently beefy to make a convincing if low-key Hercules.
Basically there are two tribes in this part of the world, the good Sun tribe and the rotten Moon tribe.Maxus befriends the good tribe by saving their crown prince from a water dragon. He hurtles a spear about 200 yards and nails it right in the eye. He then waves and quickly departs, because he never knows where he'll be needed next. This leaves our prince Idar, to romance his harpy of a girl friend, a babe that looks a bit like Ann Margaret. I couldn't really make out her name, but I think it was Brian(?) Brian pesters Idar, who just wants to spear fish, until he marries her in a ceremony where she promises to raise his children and skin his catch.(Is that a euphemism?) Furthermore, if she fails to obey him, Idar can have her put to death. Both seem content with this arrangement. Ah the good old days. As soon as (And I mean this literally) they finish the vows, the evil Moon tribe attacks! There is some pretty good fighting and the bad guys make off with the good guy's women.
After this it's pretty by the numbers. The good guys find Maxus wandering around the woods and recruit him to their cause. There are some good fights, Maxus gets buried up to his neck in the earth and is then freed by an earthquake, and a few more papier mache monstrosities are ferociously dispatched by the hero. Somewhere along the way another hottie named Moa or Mona joins Maxus' team and of course the two eventually ride off together. And yes, Maxus has the shiniest pecs I've ever seen. They are shiny on mountaintops,in caves, even underwater. Not a bad Herc movie at all, and the theme song is kinda catchy and fun. I wonder if there's a way I can make a ring tone out of it.
Old effects.......2007-02-12
This was made with old special effects that weren't as good as the later ones. But for an old Hercules movie fan it might be a wanted item in your collection.
Mixed bag, good story-bad print........2005-10-05
The print that this DVD was taken from has some issues, mainly the lighting/tone colors bleed red. The Pictures are clear and sharp, no snowing, just a weird red hue. The beef-cake and patty-cake in this movie is very good. Lots of skin. Decent fighting scenes. Non-stop action. B grade monsters every once in a while. One of the monster scenes (very breif) shows a giant lizard that must have been lifted from another film as it is a real lizard and not the puppets used in the rest of the film. Does anyone know what film that scene was taken from? Reg Lewis (Mr. America & Mr. Universe) is very beefy. The scenes of the hoochie-coochie women dancing reminded me of Esther Williams in nightmare land. Lots of fodder for MST3000 here.
Two Tribes go to war. The mean tribe steals the good tribes women. Good tribe gets help from Reg Lewis who just happens to be the Son of Hercules.
This is a fun Sword & Sandel flick with weird red lighting.

Tragedy and Success for Heroes of Horror.......2006-12-02
If you're a fan of the horror genre, then you absolutely have to seek out everything with David J. Skal's name on it. Skal, perhaps best known for his chef d'oeuvre, "Hollywood Gothic," is one of the finest commentators to be found on the modern horror scene. David's tastes and observations go beyond film history to the study of what it is in the human psyche that seeks fright as a form of escape.
It this collection, David works with A&E to look at the lives of Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Peter Lorre and Vincent Price. It's not always a pleasant view.
While each of these icons of cinema horror had their success, for most of them it was a fleeting and seldom satisfying experience. While Boris Karloff and Vincent Price achieved both financial success and celebrity that allowed them to break out of the constraints of their horror roles, others were not as fortunate.
Bela Lugosi, in particular, seems a man cast aside by a Hollywood system that, even today, uses his likeness to make tons and tons of money. Lugosi's tragic story was probably the best kept secret in Tinseltown until (strangely enough) it was revealed as one of the main story lines in "Ed Wood." It's a tragedy made for the screen that Martin Landau earned an Academy Award portraying the life of a man shunned, for the most part, by the Studios that became rich on his talents.
For any fan of the genre, this is a must-have resource. Now, go look-up everything (and anything) else with Skal's name on it.
great.......2006-11-05
I just love the old classic movie monsters that a dvd on their history was great.
Buy This DVD !.......2006-10-14
If your a fan of classic black & white horror films and more so of the actors whom starred in them this DVD is a must !
A&E originally designed and aired these biographys in October of 1995 . It was a week long halloween special titled , "Tricks & Treat" week . The A&E website doesn't sell these biographys as a DVD , only as VHS . Which is why people should purchase this DVD . The quality is outstanding and far better than the VHS version I taped back then .
All five biographys are complied into two DVD 's , with pro interactive menu's and dolby sound . Each biography starts at the birth of each actor concluding to the very end of their careers . The biography's provide a good timeline of all starring roles and movies of each actor . Interviews of family , friends and co-stars are intermixed , rounding out the biograpghy . Extra's are included with classic movie trailers from each actor and along with some rare interviews .
Excellent.......2004-03-30
I highly recommend this DVD set to any fan of classic horror movies or of movie star biographies. This collection compiles the top notch A&E biographies of Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Peter Lorre and Vincent Price. Each one is excellent and informative. While Karloff and Price had fine lives and seemed almost blessed, things did not fare quite so well for Chaney, Lorre and especially Lugosi. These features show some of the sadness of these lives without stooping to tabloid techniques.
In addition to the main features--this very reasonably priced 2 DVD collection features tons of extras including trailers for each of the 5 stars (I love watching trailers and these are all great classic 30s-60s trailers). There is a behind the scenes of Ed Wood featurette and a featurette on Vincent Price's Sears art collection (can you believe Sears once sold fine art?)
Also included are three hard to find Bela Lugosi interviews including the "Ship's Reporter" interview after his 1950's return from England, the interview after his release from the state hospital shortly before his death and the interview conducted at his home in the ealry 1930's.
But the real treasures are the much sought after Bela Lugosi/Boris Karloff Frankenstein vs Dracula ad promo and the "Hollwood on Parade" feature with Lugosi's Dracula biting none other than Betty Boop and informing her that "you have booped your last boop."
If you have any interest in this subject matter at all you simply cannot go wrong with Heroes of Horror. My only complaint is that it should have even more featured stars. I'd love to see an additional collection with Lon Chaney Sr, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and perhaps some great supporting stars like Dwight Frye and Lionel Atwill.
Fright fans delight,..........2003-11-11
Image Entertainment has done fright fans a great service with this release. Originally airing as individual segments on A & E
Biography, this two disk set is a treat for anyone who appreciates classic horror films. Featuring interviews with family members and friends, rare color home movies and some great first run & reissue trailers, each separate biography is a long overdue tribute to these legendary actors who have chilled and delighted fans worldwide.
With the exception of the often repeated falsehood regarding
Lon Chaney Sr's demise ..(which was due to cancer of the lungs
and not throat cancer), I would highly recommend this set to
anyone who spent their Saturday afternoons with their drapes
drawn, shades pulled down and in their favorite spot by the TV.
Highly recommended.
