Soldiers of Sorrow (1981) is the second of the three features that launched the landmark Gundam franchise: about two-thirds of the film is footage from episodes 16 to 30 of the TV series Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) intercut with new animation. Because so much material had to be condensed into two and a half hours, Amuro's relationships with Lt. Matilda and Ms. Hamon end before they really begin. Amuro wrestles with his new identity as a soldier and the fact that he is a "NewType," a human with psychic abilities that may represent an evolutionary jump. His problems are played out against the ongoing war between the Earth Federation and the space-based Principality of Zeon. Although Earth commands vastly superior resources, Zeon commander Char Aznable seems to have an unending supply of ships and mobile suits for attacks on Amuro's ship, the White Base. Rated 13 Up: Minor profanity, violence. --Charles SolomonDescription
The Federation space ship White Base and its precious cargo of prototype mobile suits have returned to Earth, only to find themselves in enemy territory. As the White Base struggles across the planet's surface to safety, Gundam pilot Amuro Ray must contend not only with the Duchy of Zeon's fiercest warriors, but also with his own doubts and fears.Customer Reviews:
See the anime that changed the history of anime.......2001-06-20
Have you seen Gundam?.......2001-06-20
A Great Classic.......2000-03-26
This is a must see video for all of you who want to relive the past and bring back some old gundam memories. Or for those who don't know what a gundam is or for those who want to know how they first originated.
have you seen volume one? well its no comparison to...........2000-02-18
Turns out Im wrong, becuase Volume 2, is just great. The animation though still low quality is genrally "convincing" and the humans and interactions are realer than ever. Its not so easy to make someone impressed by poor animation, in fact the people were so convincing that I almost forgot about it being animated.
Think of it this way, Star Wars is great. But would it have done so good if it was ANIMATED? Gundam did good even though it was animated and cheap. (sorry I put it in bad context) but the point is that any GUNDAM FAN would appreciate this. Anime fans used to "Ghost in the SHell" and high quality stuff might find this a bit hard to get used to, but believe me, if youre watching Anime for something more than it being "animated" then you wont regret buying VOLUME TWO OF MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM.
