I like all IMAX movies. I have quite a collection. This is going to be another one of my favorites. I listen to relaxation music and the nice thing about this video you can mute the sound and put on some music and it makes a very relaxing environment. I highly recommend this video if you are a fan of IMAX movies or not.

A Superior Documentary!.......2006-12-25

I gave "Ocean Oasis" 5 versus the 4-Stars of the previous reviewer as it's about the fabulous lower Baha Peninsula's sea life (3/4 viewing time) and coastal land life (1/4 viewing time) migratory birds, sea lions, and the surrounding desert mountains with the emphasis on NATURE where the previous reviewer dinged the DVD by 1-Star because it didn't contrast the area's cities with the Baha desert regions; the DVD's about the lower Baha's sea and coastal bird/animal life and is beautifully filmed and narrated. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as long as you're not looking for a 'Tourist Guide' to the region!

Beautiful photography - topside and underwater of Baja!.......2006-02-09

Great videography of topside - birds, landscape, elephant seals..... great videography of underwater - mantas, sharks, big and little fishes. But not a 5 star production like "Coral Reef Adventure" or other IMAX undersea videos! This video shows the beauty, but not a thing about the cities on Baja, how to get there, etc so it leaves me a bit flat. We have planned a trip to LaPaz or Cabo and this video leaves us fealing there are no humans on the whole Baja peninsula! I realize this is supposed to be showing the beauty of the area, but it would have been better if 5 minutes could have been devoted to showing the contrast of the cities vs. the stark desert. Too bad..... this could have easily been a 5 star. It is still worth getting for the incredible photography, but not worth watching over and over like some of the other IMAX shows.

Excellent.......2004-05-18

This is an excellent, breathtaking DVD which I strongly recommend to anyone who is interested in natural beauty of Baja, Mexico. Both underwater and land shots are extraordinary. I am specificaly impressed by richness of marin life in this regoin. A+

Wonderful movie about a wonderful place.......2003-09-03

This is a wonderful movie about the amazing Baja California Peninsula, mainly focused on the biodiversity of the Gulf of California. The characters (marine biologists and ecologists), transmit their enthusiasm and love for this beautiful place.
There are some breathtaking views, for example a scene of a dead, floating whale fulfilling the life cycle and some gorgeous aerial views (the one I liked best is the bird's view of the observatory, which is where I happen to work). The film is focused mainly on sea and seashore life, although it also touches the Geology of the Baja California Peninsula (a nice and enlightening computer simulation) and some of its unique plant and animal life. The movie is too short for my taste, it ends before you even had a chance to savor the scenes. It left me longing for all those hundreds of hours the filmmakers say they filmed!! This movie gives you a little, in fact too little, taste of one of the most beautiful places on Earth! If you love Baja, this movie will bring tears into your eyes! I really recommend it!

Haven't yet seen "Realm of the killer whales" for my interest was on "Sperm whale oasis" wich I find very difficult to surpass. The narration is enough interesting ( though conventional) but there are at least 30 minutes of images beyond all expectation for their beauty as for their interest, creatures so rarely seen can be here observed as never before.Only comparable with that one about the search of the giant squid by National Geographic.

Killer Herring?.......2003-03-04

If you want facts about herring look no further. If you were silly enought to buy "Realm of the Killer Whales" To learn about orcas you will be very disappointed. Id say 85% of this over priced pile of DVD was about the plight, breeding, and harvesting of herring. They talk about alot of animals that have nothing to do with the killer whales outside of living in the ocean.
Most of the killer whale scenes are above the water. The only thing that saved this dvd is the last 5 or 6 minutes showing killer whales under the water engaging in the unusual behavior of rubbing the bodies along a pebble beach. That was pretty cool. No hunting, no up close, no shark cage perspective. I didnt even see an ivory orca tooth from begining to end. I havent watched the Sperm whale documentary. However when I do I expect to learn alot about the life cycle of freekin tunas or something. I GOT ROBBED.
