Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935 to Vernon and Gladys Presley. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn so Elvis grew up as an only child. Little did his parents know that he would also become a living legend.

Elvis' musical influences were the pop and country music of the time, the gospel music he heard in church, and the black R&B he absorbed as a Memphis teenager. In 1954, he began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. By 1956, he was an international sensation, who ushered in a whole new era of American music and popular culture.

Music wasn't enough for Elvis he starred in 33 successful films, made historic television appearances, and knew great acclaim through his live concert performances. Without any of the special privileges his celebrity status might have afforded him, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Known the world over, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.

Where's the music?.......2002-09-01

This DVD does not remember Elvis, it remembes trains.For a beginner, this is lousy, because if you are unfamiliar to Elvis, you should start with a little MUSIC (what a consept!), of which this tape lacks completely. This is even worse than the Beatles' Celebration, which is also unofficial and musicless. My point: DON'T waste your money on this ...! Get the new boxed set, or even the Alternate Aloha.

You get what you pay for........2002-03-15

This is probably one of the most unusual documentaries where you rarely even hear elvis speak. A reviewer at Amazon.com stated there are more trains than anything. Well, not far from the truth. However, for a beginning fan, who's just entering the Elvis world, this would be a great introduction. There are some rare film clips in this, although not in the best picture quality. It would give a beginning some insight to one of the most influential singers of the 20th Century. Not to mention my personal favorite :)

A new dvd remembering Elvis Presley.......2001-10-29

I am a big Elvis Presley fan. And here is an Elvis Presley movie to get on video/dvd. And this takes a 48 minute tour of his life. But left out his death on August 18, 1977. This has mention of Elvis Presley's shot marriage to Priscialla Presley (1967-1973). And we know by know that Elvis grew up as an only child. But his late mother gave birth to Jessie Garon Presley but ended up stillborn. Check this out!

A Marvelous Documentary!.......2001-07-10

I don't know why the viewer from San Rafael didn't enjoy this DVD as much as I did, perhaps he didn't finish watching? This documentary was in fact, very well done. The other viewer complains about there not being music; maybe he's forgotten that there's a lot more to Elvis Presley than his music?

Not only does it come at a bargain price, it's one of the best documentaries on Elvis that I've seen! It starts at the beginning, when Elvis was born in 1935. It discusses his love for music, and then goes on to remember his career in film.

Also of note, the DVD doesn't have a region encoding, so those of you not in N. America can still watch it! Great for any Elvis fans and trivia buffs!

They Forgot Alot in Trying to Remember Him.......2001-06-15

This DVD was a real disappointment. There is so much to remember about "The King of Rock N Roll" but not even his music is featured in this lame attempt at documenting his career. There were more trains in this "documentary" (the trains being a reference to his fast-moving rise to stardom) than information about his life. OK for train buffs but lousy if you're an Elvis fan.

Don't waste your money!.......2004-01-02

This should be a -0-, but I had to put 1 star to post this! I bought this as a Christmas present for my mother, who is an Elvis fan. She was EXTREMELY disappointed. So much so, that she is donating it to the local library! Disk 1 was a documentary of OTHER people talking about Elvis, with no footage of Elvis performing OR speaking. Disk 2 was basically a repeat of Disk 1. Disk 3 was nothing but movie trailers. If you just want to hear what other people have to say about Elvis, this is the set for you, but if you want to actually see footage of him speaking, performing, etc....don't waste your money on this one!!!!
