These two episodes from the History Channel series Secrets of War focus on some of the murkier issues from the Vietnam War. In the episode entitled "Hidden in Plain Sight," veterans and historians discuss how the Vietcong guerrillas were directed from North Vietnam yet were able to blend into the society of South Vietnam so well as to be virtually transparent. Guerrillas who attacked Americans in 1968's Tet offensive talk about how they infiltrated and mixed with the public until it was time to strike. And an innovative sequence utilizing computer-generated graphics shows how an elaborate and notorious tunnel complex at Cu Chi allowed the Vietcong in the countryside to literally become an underground fighting force. The second episode on this DVD, "Special Operations," examines the role of American special forces in Vietnam. Former Green Berets and Navy Seals talk about their unique and deadly skills and how they were deployed in unusual and highly effective missions behind enemy lines. Those who were hunted by the American special forces also appear and talk about how the "men with green faces" became a feared presence in the jungles and rivers of Vietnam. These are well-researched documentaries that provide insight on controversial aspects of the war that are still shrouded in myth. --Robert J. McNamara
