Customer Reviews:
too many assumed conclusions.......2006-03-31
Although it offered many new nuggets of information about the "barbarian" cultures, it still assumed too many conclusions as fact to make its arguement. Footage itself is that new trend of british jerky camera work that now seems to be the norm, including images that have nothing to do with what they are talking about. Did enjoy the magyar (hungarian) horseback archer footage which displays how a horse archer in one pass can load a handful of arrows into a target. It was the key to success for so many horse archer cultures. Just wish there was more footage of it. Still worth a look for the footage and some of the new insights into the "barbarian" peoples.
Quite good.......2005-07-28
Not a bad documentary, a bit "groovy" at times (Hells' Angels?) but some good information, interviews with historical re-enactment groups, good footage of places set out as they were in the times, many interviews with experts and lots of re-creation (e.g a dark ages boat reconstructed by enthusiasts and taken out to seas - they went to a lot of effort).
Quite worth watching if you are interested in these topics.
