Naration for a younger audience doesn't have to be stupid.......2007-07-03

I have not purchased this volume but I have seen pieces of it on cable. I would agree with those who gave it a very low grade because (at least the brighter) children are smart enough to follow the "Walking with Dinosaurs" series which has much better naratives. When I was a child I would not have liked the stupid jokes in this series. But I understand that challenged children who need a meaningless stream of audio distraction to hold their attention probably aren't going to learn much anyway and their parents (who gave this volume high marks) might want to keep them entertained for a while just to keep them out of trouble. Those of you who have intelligent children would do them a great service by purchasing the "Walking with Dinosaurs" series for them instead. They will become our future paleontologists.

great for the kids.......2007-03-27

this version of the popular dinosaur dvd's is great for children and adults alike. ben stiller does a very good job narrating for the school age sect. unlike some of the other dvd's in the series this one will not frighten younger children.

A Better Version for Younger Dinosaur Crazy Kids.......2007-01-20

Yes, this series is an edited version of the the original BBC series called Walking with Dinosaurs. However, in the original grown-up BBC series the dinos spend a lot of time eating their own young and dying tragic deaths (if you ask me the original dwells exceedingly on made-up tragic storylines). Prehistoric Planet very wisely edits out some of the more disturbing chaos and destruction of the original while still leaving plenty of chomping and meat eating to satisfy and inform the children. If your child is old enough to handle the nastier realities of pre-historic life in full color then by all means buy the original Walking with Dinos and Walking with Prehistoric Beasts--they are wonderful. If you have a younger child who just wants to see the magic of dinos coming "alive" without nightmares and anxiety then the Prehistoric Planet version is a great thing.

Prehistoric Planet is not very good. Heres the problem. First of all, This is just like a documentary called Walking With Dinosaurs, this has the exact same footage. Another problem is that Walking With Dinosaurs is about 30 minutes, Prehistoric Planet has 20 minutes of footage. The narrator is quite annoying and does to many jokes. The narrator is Ben Stiller, he might be good for other stuff but he is a very bad narrator. He does too many jokes, so it makes it feel like your not really there. They Could of done a lot better of a job at Prehistoric Planet.

The DVD itself is not the best either. Not that many bonus features and has a lame menu.

So you can by the 2 disc edition of Walking With Dinosaurs with the entire episode with bonus features, a better dvd, and better narrator, or Prehistoric Planet with 20 minute episodes with barely any bonus features and a narrator that does too many jokes. Im staying with the real one Walking With Dinosaurs and leaving this one on the shelf!

Its Alright.......2006-09-12

Well I think its alright.See its the same thing as walking with dinasours but with shorter time and a different narrater.Its for kids of course.I got this when I was 9 or 10.Im glad they made it for kids.The episodes are in the same order but with different names.(I cant remember what they are)But its a 3 star program because the jokes stink and ben stiller isnt the best narrater.Thats why its 3 stars.But I reccomend it for little kids.But I dont reccoment it for adults or teenagers or kids ages 8 to 12 either.Well thats all I have to say.Ta ta for now.
