Who was GG? This film really doesn't tell us, but GG is morbidly fascinating..........2007-04-05

GG Allin was an extraordinarily interesting individual, but this film doesn't really get into much depth about him. Was GG a real performance artist, or was he just a really demented, arrogant, vile piece of s***? There's something utterly fascinating about the guy, watching him deliberately destroy himself in the name of rock and roll. He goes on stage and is deliberately being an a**h**e. He hits his fans (who love it for the most part), defecates on stage, pisses on stage, cuts himself, mutilates himself, does drugs, and indulges in coprography and bondage. This film is under an hour, and doesn't really answer anything. It just seems to want to shock you, and that it does. GG Allin is so interesting that the film is watchable, but the direction of it is uninspired. It moves like an MSNBC special on GG. There's really nothing interesting about the filmmaking here. Personally, I would have never wanted to hang out with GG, as I fear my life would be at stake, and I wouldn't want him vomitting on me or worse. But I am interested in his story. I would like to see a longer documentary about him. There certainly is enough material for one...

I am not a g.g. fan, Nor am I one after witnessing some of antics on and off stage. Buuuuutttt.... Loved the DvD it was just what I asked for. That is pure entertainment, O.k. hope I don't run for Mayor some day they'll dig up this review. Allen makes for great fun; Allen hitting people, Allen exhibiting his "baby Allen", Allen as philosopher, and much more. I'm very glad not have been there live as it gets a tad odiferous,(Keep a lid on your beer). G.G. and company are what every punkrocker always wanted to be, or maybe thought so. Is this what rebellion and anti-establishment means or what one becomes? At least this guy gave it a shot. Lord of the flies "the musical" and I got my money's worth. There is a great Bonus concert/riot/escape in special features. This Documentary is certainly not for everyone It's foul, vile, repulsive, degrading, sick, and ever so ill tempered. And now you have to buy it.

I am GG Allin. You are GG Allin. Deep down inside each us the is a little GG Allin. Get your Burbury slippers out, make some popcorn and cuddle close to the old lady and enjoy this masterpieces of fecal.

A Must-See Shockumentary!.......2007-01-10

Oh, GG - you little scamp. How we embraced your stage-hurled feces. Why did you have to die? And why did director Todd Phillips have to include that picture of you holding your little punk rock wiener in your casket?

Regardless, this is a great film. Get up close and a little too personal with the only person who could cross Dee Dee Ramone's boundaries. Enjoy spending quality time with uberfan Unk, who says sagely things like, "I think the violence is funny as hell - as long as it's not happening to me." Revel in GG's scholastic music teacher trying to digest some of GG's latter-day concoctions of sonic diarrhea. Lose yourself in Merle Allin's mustache (much like, say, a banana in GG's tailpipe).

You know, I probably shouldn't even waste time writing any more since this movie is perfectly summed up by this movie's Amazon keywords. Such as: Male Full Frontal Nudity, Urination, Funeral, Disturbing, Shockumentary, Vulgarity, Interview. Do you honestly need to know any more? (Actually, they left out "hot dogs" and "defecation" - maybe I should add those myself...)

Actually, maybe you should also read the song titles off the Amazon product description. Then picture those things in your mind. And only then, if you find the mental images you conjure appealing or intriguing in any way, should you check out this film. And if you're not picking up what your mind's eye is laying down, then definitely do not check out this film. 'Cause though I say this is a "must see" shockumentary, that's only if you don't mind the fact that you won't be able to erase some of this film's images from your mind for as long as you live.

a documentary with not much depth.......2006-10-18

Possibly a good attempt at opening up some an a legendary and sick punker, but the problem here is that it was made by too much of a fan--in the end, GG shows himself to be sociopathic and cowardly (revealed more in the bonus footage of his last show than in the documentary itself), finding identity more from whichever personality he can leech onto at the time than presenting his own, but the film didn't seem to want to acknowledge this. There's a nice focus on the effect of GG Allin, and would have worked well as a documentary about those around him (band and fans), but this film offers you little on GG Allin himself, though it seems to want to make him its focus.

One of my favorite things about the early Trading Spaces, is how the expert designers would completely ignore the requests of the decoratees. (Please keep the carpet, it is only a year old. The decorator, "The carpet must go.") I hoped to see more of those in clips, like a highlights reel. This was not the case. This is just two episodes, although the second one when the woman is crying off camera after she just needs to be alone for a minute in the reveal made this CD worthwhile. I don't mean to sound uncharitable, but in the great scheme of life, bad interiordecoration is not a tragedy of overwhelming proportions, and it is part of the risk that makes the program enjoyable. If you are a huge Trading Spaces fan, purchase this, otherwise let it pass.

We love Paige Davis and we love the designers, but sometimes we don't love what they do, and wonder how those homeowners can be so poised (with the exception of a few whose names we all know) in the face of Decor ala Disaster. Even if you've seen the episodes, this one is still fun to watch....to see what happened later!

Thank goodness we checked this out from the library. We'd never seen Trading Spaces, but I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. Surely the extremely negative reactions that the cover blurb seemed to promise would provide us with the best encapsulation of the appeal of this show, right? WRONG. Nobody bursts into tears, nobody retches and runs from the room with their hand over their mouth, nobody threatens to firebomb their neighbors' homes in retaliation, nobody clenches their fists, throws back their head and bellows "WHYYYYYYYYY?!?" to an aloof and uncaring deity. In fact, pretty much every reaction is along the lines of, "Oh. Well. Maybe I'll get used to it..." If you love the idea of watching someone else's boring tract home being redecorated in order to view the homeowners' stoic, listless demeanors upon viewing the finished product, by all means, proceed. All others, steer clear of this dud.

Sweet Revenge for Husbands.......2004-11-30

If you are a Trading Spaces widower, this is the DVD for you. You get to see who are the absolute worst designers, see people wretch, cry, throw their microphone off in disgust, gosh it is wonderful. Get it for your wife and re-bond your relationship together, as you watch the know-it-alls go down in flames, as you realize your home, your life is really not so bad after all. They should make this into a long running series - the most outrageous or ridiculous designer efforts. For once, my wife and I both truly enjoyed Trading Spaces episodes. I didn't even read the paper or look at my laptop. What a God send!!
