A visual feast for Anglophiles, Visions of England is the third installment of the popular PBS-aired Visions series, which applies the Over Washington (or whatever state) formula to European countries. It begins with the welcoming white cliffs of Dover, moves north to York, Hadrian's Wall, and Liverpool, over to Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, down to Cambridge and Oxford, then back to the sights of London. The journey naturally includes plenty of castles and other ruins, cathedrals, manor houses, countrysides, and cities. Even if you're a frequent visitor to England or a postcard collector, you'll be seeing things from an entirely new angle in this spectacular aerial footage (shot from a helicopter; you can catch the occasional shadow). The music is pleasant and appropriate, and the narration is informative but thankfully minimal (sometimes lapsing into cuteness along the lines of "You know, 1066 and all that."). Added to the DVD are 19 minutes of narrator-less bonus footage. Perhaps a future installment or two will cover Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. --David Horiuchi
Description
"See the natural beauty and man-made wonders of England from a stunning vantage point

From the magnificent White Cliffs of Dover to historic Hadrian's Wall, from Stonehenge to Big Ben, Brighton, Bath and beyond, see England as never before. A helicopter-mounted camera surveys this land of history and mysteries, literature and fairy tales, castles and conquerors. An informative narrative and an eclectic complement the spectacular views.

In the South, highlights include Cheddar Gorge and Southampton. In the North, visit Liverpool, home of the Beatles, and history-rich York. In London, get a new view of familiar sights. For the literary-minded, enjoy visits to Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon and the moors of Lorna Doone. Sports fans will thrill to the view of Wimbledon, and royal watchers will enjoy a king's ransom of castles. Includes 19 minutes of bonus footage not seen on public television."

3 out of 5 stars Over England.......2007-05-16

This series is terrific, but this title is a tad disappointing considering the possibilities.

5 out of 5 stars Wish I Was There.......2007-02-09

The images are amazing. If you like Great Britian this is the one video you don't want to miss out on. I was so caught up in the DVD that I will buy the entire series "Visions Of ...". You will watch this DVD over and over and over again.

4 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Scenery Steals the Heart.......2007-01-31

I bought this dvd as a treat for myself - I absolutely love England. It's hard to go wrong with the natural beauty of England. The dvd is quite relaxing and enjoyable. The voiceover can be a bit tiresome - she's a bit overly grandiose in her delivery. The visuals - mostly by airplane - aren't quite as stirring as the "Visions of Germany - Along the Rhine" was - that one really was enchanting and the voiceover was more informative. This is still a very nice hour spent enjoying the natural beauty and history uniquely shown by helicopter and airplane along with lovely background music. It would make a great gift for someone who misses their home in England or just loves England like I do.

5 out of 5 stars Visions of England.......2007-01-22

This is the most incredible DVD! Jawdropping views of England from the air...you almost feel like an eagle soaring over England. You'll never see this scenery by actually going to England, you have to see the flyover!

4 out of 5 stars We enjoyed this DVD.......2006-11-10

I feel that this DVD was very nicely done and we have enjoyed watching it several times.
